Black boot animation - Google Pixel 3 XL Themes, Apps, and Mods

I think it would be cool to have black boot animation. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks

Would be interested in this as well but don't know where to start

I think that some custom ROMs uses the black version on the OP5. Shouldn't be hard to find the dark boot animation and replace it using root.

We have tried several times even on this Nov update but the system/product folder where the bootanimation.zip lies will not mount r/w so we cant swap out any of the files for some reason.

Nvm

FYI, just tried flashing through TWRP (perma, not boot), and didn't work... Really strange...
Also, since Google is all going black now for app themes since it can save battery, they should use a black boot animation lol
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using XDA Labs

If it does not make any since at all . . . . then maybe / probably, it is tied to that "new" security chip google brags about.

I wish there was some thing I could do to help. Would love this...

Don't try than command, it borked my product partition lol
So when I get a chance tomorrow or the next I'm going to take the product.img from the factory images and replace the boot animation with the black version. I'll upload it to AFH when I confirm it works. If you guys have any requests afterwards I'll look into it, just got to get the img mounted first in Ubuntu

In for updates.

Sorry if anyone was looking forward to this! My girl blew a tire and bent a rim so I spent the whole day at a junkyard looking for a replacement. I have the whole day off tomorrow so I'll take a stand at this then!

Got an even easier fix
Place the bootanimation.zip in /data/adb/magisk_simple/system/product/media/

What I did was used MidnightCore to install the black stock animation. It will be in /data/adb/magisk_simple/system/media/ and then moved it to the proper folder.

So what do we do with that .zip file? The MidnightCore module does appear to work and downloads the appropriate animation desired but then it still boots white.

[BOOT ANIMATION] Nexus 7

This is the boot animation from the Nexus 7 tablet. It works great on my Galaxy Nexus and I thought I'd share it.
NOTE: This isn't a recovery-flashable zip.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Browse to /system/media, mount as r/w, and rename bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip.bak (to preserve your current boot animation).
2. Place the attached file (n7-bootanimation.zip) into /system/media and rename it to bootanimation.zip
3. After you place and rename the file, make sure the permissions are corrected, as shown here:

NOTE: I'm not responsible for problems with your device. I also don't take credit for this boot animation... I didn't create it nor did I port it, pull it out of a ROM, or anything. A friend of mine sent me the file and I'm simply sharing it with you all (I didn't see another thread in here about it).

THank you
Wow. This looks great! I'll definitely be keeping this on my phone for a while. Thanks a lot!
It would be totally awesome if a themer could 'fix' this boot animation. It always looks like the creator of the animation got drunk and cropped it wrong. The vertical invisible line separating from the rest. I dunno maybe just me.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I really gotta ask. Why put it in /system/media? The system looks first in /data/local so if you put it there, there are multiple advantages:
1) can be a larger file size (/s/m is limited)
2) easier to pull off with adb if you get a borked file
3) permissions are usually already good-to-go
4) you never have to replace the original file and have it should you need to return to stock
Otherwise, VERY nice animation. I was thinking it was going to be the standard JB one. Thanks for posting.
thanks for sharing mate..
tho..any chance we can get our hands some HD love?
since our Gnex screen is awesome??!!

Yes you can fellow countryman. I saw a post about a week to 2 weeks ago, where they even showed a nice tutorial. You can only change the colors, but I assume that's what you're after, right?
P.s. will look and see if I can't find that link.

Either /system/app/systemui.apk

I just don't have time to do it - too busy with work...
I still have NO idea which images to edit inside these apk files...
This is what that link says:
In the drawable-sw600dp-mdpi folder:
ic_lockscreen_handle_normal.png
ic_lockscreen_handle_pressed.png
unlock_default.png
unlock_halo.png
unlock_ring.png
unlock_wave.png
In the drawable-mdpi folder:
ic_lockscreen_camera_activated.png
ic_lockscreen_camera_normal.png
ic_lockscreen_glowdot.png
ic_lockscreen_handle_pressed.png
ic_lockscreen_ime.png
ic_lockscreen_lock_normal.png
ic_lockscreen_lock_pressed.png
ic_lockscreen_unlock_activated.png
ic_lockscreen_unlock_normal.png
I don't have ANY folders containing the letters MDPI. I have the HTC One X Running CM10...
And I want to edit pattern lock, not slide to unlock...
EDIT : Are the lines binding the circles maybe an XML file?
Edit: didn't read. Anyway looking in mdpi is not going to get you anywhere as that's only used by.. Mdpi phones. Look in drawable-xhdpi or in one of the xml folders instead. I'm pretty sure it's xml work though, unfortunately for you.

You have to put this file on your phone's storage or SD card and go into your recovery, don't extract the files though put the whole zip file there. To get into recovery turn your phone off and then hit volume-up, home key and then press the power button. Hold all of these down at once.
Then when it goes into recovery choose install zip from SD card and choose the zip file for the boot animation you got. It should instal then you just reboot and you should see the new animation.

If anyone else is interested. ..

I wasn't doing much today, now that the semester is over. So I felt like experimenting with our great phone. I think we all notice that the international models offer MUCH more currently active support. So I wanted to find out how much some of the mods and such were compatible. I flashed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2721839, and surprisingly, so far, everything is working out ok. I would highly advise to backup a current nandroid just in case. Obviously this isnt my work, nor am I publishing this mod as in a specific ROM other than the creators. Completely on my time and my risk.
So tell me what you guys think.
