No APN at all? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Bought a note 8, unlocked, verizon, etc and have it on ST.
There are no APN settings at all and no option to add.
Anyone ran across this? Workaround?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe this will help explain my issue a little better.

It could be the firmware version you're on.. Of course I'm using mine with the Verizon sim card and Verizon firmware version N950USQS5CRID.. I don't know how you have yours set up but in my network Options I see Access Point Names.. May I ask what you need the Access Point Names for?

Since the switch to this phone (I used smart switch so it moved my old apps over). The messaging app I am used to will not send pictures.
Initial thoughts are that it is an issue with the APN not being properly set up.

Reinstall the app. It's not always an APN issue.

Reinstalled it (stock samsung messaging app), no go.
I was able to go install quick shortcut maker and then go into mobile networks that way and access the APN's.

I had the same problem and this is what i did.
i use someone original Verizon SIM, the APN option will come back, edit the APN to TRACFONE.VZWENTP then save.
Put your ST SIM back in and it will work

Note 8
I am having the same issue. I've tried everything from calling ST to putting the old Verizon sim in changing apn saving it and it still did not work for me with ST. Has anyone had any luck?

What happens if you go into settings, General Management, Reset, and the Reset network settings?

Download from playstore shortcut master lite
There should be a free one name something like quickshortcutmaker ( actual shortcut master doesnt have a lite version anymore) when you search for short cut master lite
launch app
go on applications tab and search for com.test.LTEFunctionalityTest
it will say Try on an option or launch
tap try a couple times then check settings under mobile networks,
it should be there
if not go the app again and create shortcut and launch within app by pressing try
worked for me

Network Settings

Okay, I'm pretty sure this was just a fluke because I cannot find how to do it anymore, but I thought it was pretty neat. When I went into call settings and networks, it let me choose between a list of LTE, Maritime (3g), and 2g. I have read that there is a setting in the hidden network settings that deals with this, but have been unable to change the settings. Has anyone else run into this settings menu? I was just playing around with the phone, and there it was, now it is no more. Maybe. For those that have no LTE coverage, I bet this could really help with battery life.

That's what I thought it was, too. But, unless I'm being totally oblivious to something, it does not show up there anymore. The only list to show up is the APN list which I'm able to populate with full network settings, but what I'm talking about was the ability to switch between LTE, 3G, and 2G on the fly. I wish I would have gotten a screen shot. Can you do a screen shot of what you are talking about?

Nope. I don't have that. I have the lt28at, btw. Is that the international version? That's not even the screen that I got when I got into those settings. Mine was not a pop-up, it was another screen of its own. It listed "LTE" (not sure if it had 4G next to it or not) then it had 2 different "Maritime 3g" settings, then 2g. I remember this specifically because I thought the word Maritime being in there was odd. My network settings page is attached.

MMS not sending/recieving

Hey all. Using my N 900T on ATT network. Currently have Hyperbole ROM installed. I cannot send out MMS. I have checked the APN multiple times, but it will not go. I briefly had it work in again last night after I flashed a different kernel (I went from stock 4.4 kernel to Compuksion), but now today it is not working again? Tried flashing another kernel again just to see, CivZ, and no help.
Please help out guys. You all think I borked something and need to flash Rom again, or go back to stock KitKat? Very strange.

I touched on this same problem in the AT&T thread in general. My solution was to switch to a different messaging app, with better APN selection.

I had a similar problem for a while. I could send and receive mms only with the stock app or with Hangouts. At the time I was using Textra, an excellent messaging app. It didn't have application specific apn settings though. So I switched over to ChompSMS, which does have application specific apn settings, and got everything to work. Finally!
My suggestion would be to try an alternate messaging app and play around with any and all apn settings therein until you find something that works.
Good luck. :good:

I should note that the information in that post is not entirely accurate, as Textra does have APN settings. It's just that none of the manual settings worked for me.
Thanatos355 said:
Indeed it does, I mispoke. I apologize.
I should have said that manually adjusting them did not alleviate the issue.
Lack of sleep +many flashes with many settings leads to some....let's call it blurring...of memory.

Yeah, I should mention I am using Chomp, which does have extra APN settings, but still no dice. What settings are you using specifically? Attached is what I have enabled.

Those exact same settings with MCC 310 & MNC 410. Strange.
I think part of the problem is that AT&T has absorbed so many different systems over the years that they still have a good half dozen settings that work for different parts of their "network".
Have you tried flashing/restoring back to stock TW and seeing if mms works from there?

That is going to be my next step I guess. Such a pain man. I have flashed a ton of ROMs and never had issues, but now I am. Blah. Oh well.

[Q] APN and MMS question

Really liking the note4 so far, but i've run into a few small issues. Firstly, Is there a way to modify or create a new APN on this device? The option to create one (the little plus sign) is greyed out and the preset verizon one is unable to be modified. Are these settings that need root to be modified?
Secondly, I've been unable to send MMS messages. I'm thinking this could be related to the apn settings, or not. Just wondering if anyone else came across these issues or knows what I could do. I am able to receive MMS and pictures messages, just not send.
Thanks all!

Hm. I haven't heard of the issue. Maybe a factory reset? I'm not too sure.

When you look at your APN settings (settings->more networks->mobile networks->access point names) are you able to add an apn? when you pick verizon internet (the default in mine and what is shown in the picture in OP) are you able to edit those settings?
Thanks

Thanks. If anyone else sees this and could check I'd appreciate it.
I did do a factory reset and got MMS working fine, but the apn settings are still unable to be changed. I'm sure they're meant to be that way but was curious.

mate20x hong kong version tethering problem

my mate20x from hk, should be same as grobal version as it came with google services.
the new problem i found was when i share wifi to others my phone will go offline and cannot connect to internet.
i found out it was an old problem for many huawei phones.
I have the exact same issue with the 3uk sim. Hot-spot works with ee sim correctly but not with 3uk sim. I was on the phone to 3uk today, changed apn settings but nothing happened. I bloody did a hard reset but that still didn't rectify the issue. Threes technical support said they will call me in few hours to see if they can find any solution. I have the global version from wonda.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I found the solution from previous Huawei forums. Add a new apn and where it says apn type paste this default, mms, supl,ia,dun, entitle
Magically that solves the issue.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I have attached the picture, just change the apn type in your new apn. If the phone doesn't let you save the setting after editing then just press back button. And select the edited apn. Then put your Hot-spot on.

Thanks but..
I too have the global version from wonda. And i'm with 3(uk)
Imagine my disappointment when your fix didn't work. :crying:
I get a "your carrier does not allow you to add dun APN's" message and the new apn is not there when i use the back key.
I'm on unlimited data and 30Gb tether.
Mine works without any issues now after adding the new apn. I almost use it every day for work purpose. Try this may be, reset the network settings. Then try to add the new apn. Make sure in the apn type don't leave any space between the commas. Press the back key and see what happens.

My oneplus 5 could and still can tether.
I have tethering on my contract.
Unlimited data on device, 30Gb of which is tetherable.
I heard they removed the tether cap, but i've never been anywhere near 30Gig so i don't care.
thks. that worked!

I got this too, seemed there as the default APN and then one for tethering, removing the 'dun' from the hotspot APN and saving made it work for me - now hotspot and phone data are working.

Question Can't switch 5G off since updating to Android 13?

Has anyone else has this option greyed out?
I have the option to choose between 5G,4G,3G,or 2G (Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > Preferred Network Type).
Yep they've greyed it out even though my phone was bought simfree (unlocked)

If you scroll down a bit further, don't you have a Preferred Network setting?
Nope just a 'Choose Network' which is also greyed out
I'm at a loss, hopefully, someone else will chime in.
FWIW, mine is a US Model, puchcased from T-Mobile, SIM unlocked (using a T-Mobile SIM Card).

You could always just use the dialer code *#*#4636#*#*
Turns out certain networks have the option disabled, I had the same problem when using an ID Mobile sim but my Vodafone sim was fine. To fix the problem make sure your rooted as I don't know of any other way other than the one I'm going to show.
Use a file manage that can show you root files (I use MiXplorer)
Go to /data/user_de/0/com.android.phone/files
Look for a XML file that starts with "carrier", If you have more than one then you've used more than 1 SIM in the phone, Make sure you've opened the XML file for your SIM.
Look for the line "hide_preferred_network_type_bool" and change it from true to false.
Reboot.
Profit.
Hope it works for you.

I'm with Smarty (owned by Three) which also uses the Three network like idmobile so it looks like Three maybe the culĀ·prit
I'm on I'd mobile which uses threes network.
Type this *#*#4636#*#* in dialer, it enters a test mode.
Click on phone info which takes you to another screen.
Scroll down and you'll see a slightly gray box that if you click on that and scroll through you'll find LTE only.
Click it and that's it, 4g network only.
Restart phone, job done.
Pretty sure my battery also seems to last longer
