Enabling 1080p 60 FPS + 120 FPS Video Recording via Root or Patched Camera APK - Google Pixel 3 XL Themes, Apps, and Mods

Wanted to kick off the conversation about enabling high frame rate video recording on the Pixel 3. I just found out the Pixel 3 supports 1080p 120 FPS rear camera video recording. It's even advertised in their camera specs.
The Google Camera APK currently only supports 30fps or "Auto", which is god awful as it fluctuates FPS and doesn't even reach ~55 FPS in bright settings. Aside from enabling a constant 60 FPS option (like the Pixel 2), is there a way to enable the 120 FPS setting as well? Would this require a custom ROM that changes the Pixel 3 source code, or is the only thing necessary a patched APK of Google Camera? I'm wondering if it's also possible to do this through a Magisk module.
Happy to hear any ideas on how we all could enable 60/120 FPS as the hardware clearly supports it. Furthermore, the Snapdragon 845 supports 4K 60 FPS recording. This makes me believe that it may be even possible to enable 4k 60 FPS which would be amazing. It's really unfortunate we have to revert to an awful 30 FPS for 1080p recording after the Pixel 2 had a 60 FPS option. Thanks in advance.

this doesn't belong here
you should ask this to be moved to general

I also think its possible. The Hardware is definitely ready for this.
On my old Nexus 5X there were some guys that enabled 1080p/60fps through some edits of the camera lib's. Maybe this will happen too on the P3XL.
Also the Snapdragon 845 is listed with up to 2.8GHz but Google decided to ship the P3 with
2.5GHz but that is another point.
Maybe im wrong

That is correct the 845 goes up to 2.8 ghz and Google under clocked it to 2.5 but a custom kernel can easily fix that. I upped mine back to 2.8 and still have great battery life.

hope Google will fix it

Guys google isn't going to do this.

So who'll build that Mod?

Yea I was hoping Google would include the 60 FPS video recording option on the Pixel 3 with their monthly updates but so far nothing. After this sparse January 2019 Pixel 3 update (only audio fixes) I've lost some hope that Google will ever add these high frame rate options. It's a real shame that the Pixel 2 can record at a constant 60 FPS, while the Pixel 3 cannot.

where is camera mod enabling this for stock?

Make the P3xl Camera Great Again
I'm also in support of this mod. Anyone aware of a dev working on this that I can track/follow?

Maybe we could motivate the dev of the Mod for the Pocophone to give it a try? ?

There is even a new magisk module for Samsung exynos devices to activate [email protected] So I would be surprised if it were impossible for our Pixel.
I tried to edit some xml lol but it doesn't let me save the changes

Sadly I'm miles away from being a dev

Does anyone know to enable 1080p @60 fps ?

Hello, does anyone know if this is implemented in a ROM or if there's a mod available to enable 1080p 60fps recording ? I barely found out about this just before i decided to purchase the 10 and found it odd due to the fact that the M8 can do 1080p @60:rolleyes :roll eyes: . Is there a way a request can be made or something ?

I've looked into it the but HTC added some compilation the configuration for 60fps is the same for The HTC 10 Nexus 6p and 5X have it working on the nexus .
HTC Complications.
In Camera 2 Mode it could be accessed via high speed recording api but for some reason this causes strange green overlay flickering video is in 60fps but unusable so that's out.
Camera 1 mode using Qualcomms video-hfr parameter HTC seems to have substituted this with their own video-mode parameter in theory it should work but they messed with some switch where even if you select 60fps it tries to look for a 90fps stream but that's nothing that can't be fixed in ida.
I tried using video-mode param but didn't seem to take any effect I do not have a HTC 10 to do further tests to make matters worse HTC added log mask code in pretty much all the libs rendering logcat useless.
The logcat mask needs to be disabled somehow once that's done there maybe hope but as it is now no device and no logcat I can't do much about it.
There alternative is to get 60fps working at 4k that does not require video-hfr or high-speed recording it requires time and trial and error to find the correct register values currently the know reg configs give 40fps 1080p and 32-35fps 4k.

Was anyone able to achieve [email protected] video recoding with the stock camera app?
I always saw that a lot of phones I had before got some software mods that improved e.g. camera, or any other app, so why is it that HTC 10 cannot get Camera mod to include [email protected]?
Besides, 4k video IS recorded at 60fps, so I doubt it is not possible with 1080p...
Thank you everyone for explanations and answers

How to Copy Google Pixel Camera algorithm & Software into Xiaomi mi 5s?

Is it possible to copy the algorithm of Google pixel camera and install it in Xiaomi mi 5s? Because both have exactly same sensors. As I have seen the reviews of Xiaomi mi 5s, there is a room for improvement in the software. Specially night shots need improvement. So is there any way to copy pixel's algorithm and software into mi 5s?
At this point? Probably not.
In the future? Who knows, I hope so too...
We might (or might not) need to copy some libraries from pixel's system image, and probably must use the included google camera (which requires android 7.0 for now...)

Not possible because of so many things...
- There's likely no drivers for IMX378 included in the kernel/system by xiaomi for Mi5s Plus
- You must have to somehow find dual IMX378 module with the same pin configuration as the original one for it to even turn on (won't work if there's no driver for it though...)

It would be redundant, the 5s plus uses a normal sensor with a monochrome sensor, similar to P9, and this allows (should) better lowlight, and higher dynamic range, however from samples I've seen, Xiaomi has not implemented it very well. They would have been better off with one 378 sensor, as that is currently one of the best mobile sensors
Man I think the original idea is ask about how we can get the eis and quality photos video from pixel to the mi5s small who carrier the same sensor.
How get software from pixel to mi5s (pixel too expensive), I want use the Xiaomi mi5s small with cm14 and Google pixel software/library features camera

Yes, and I think I've already answered that. Pixel runs android 7.1, Mi5s runs 6.0, you can't get the camera app that comes with pixel to run on mi5s, and if you manage to backport that to android 6.0, what if it needs some library, can you make sure that it is can run on android 6.0, while it is built for android 7.1?
Moreover, I found out the hard way that Mi5s did not specify it's HFR modes, so the latest Google Camera that is compatible with android 6.0 won't run at all. Except if you turn the HFR functionality off, by adding this line to your build.prop:
Code:
persist.camera.hal3hfr.enable=0
I don't know if this bug comes from xiaomi, or xiaomi.eu (as I am running xiaomi.eu's ROM right now), and I don't know if it's gonna be fixed in the future.
You're welcome to pursue this idea, but keep that things in mind
Since Google's HDR+ is so good in low light, has anyone tried alternative 3rd party apps that use image stacking to improve low light IQ ( Better Camera and Snap HDR Cam low light modes come to mind)
I am interested in this phone because of the price and sensor and would like an HDR+ alternative.
Has anyone tried those apps? Thanks
Try cortex camera, it basically is the best app at stacking images.

Hi, thanks for the information about google camera. Any possibility that we can have settings like manual iso, or hdr (just normal hdr) ? Is it exclude to nexus devices, I mean after hacking still? How about the snapdragon camera, it seems that we need caf kernel, but maybe it's working after adding this line?

We already have manual controls, just use snap cam and enable cam 2 api in it's settings, or use FreeDcam and you get full manual

That's true, I'm just curious if google has better post processing (now I think an app won't change much) If apps can't change, is it possible to copy the drivers from pixel, if the sensors are the same? Meanwhile, we don't have iso 50 (although maybe the native iso is 100, so 100 might be better than 50). Freedcam seems to be able to enable eis on camera api 1, but it crashed a lot, and it's api 1. Now I'm confused which is the best choice. I'm using snap camera, but there's no long exposure like the stock camera (up to 32s, I think it's a stack of photos). Sorry I asked a lot, but it seems that you are an expert . Last question, the stock camera in manual mode, the preview never changes while changing iso/shutter speed. In other apps, it got very slow when the shutter is long (1/3 s). I wonder if this is because imx 378 is very powerful and generating large data, or it's MIUI‘s bug?

I guess Google's HDR+ algorithm is the only great thing the Pixel has we don't besides that fact they don't have long exposure so they can't take as good night pics as us.
In camera 1 Api we can go all the way to 60 sec, although stock libs limited at 32 sec which is fine. Also we do have ISO 50 on FreeDcam API 2, I think I have a specially built FreeDcam by @defcomg who sorted it out. I'll ask him if I he or I can post it here.
Also Quallcomm seemed to mess up the camera libs recently and max exposure on cam 2 api is only around 5 sec.
But I suggest you to experiment with Snap and FreeDcam, I use FreeDcam for long exposures and low light shots. And I use snap camera in the day time. I have denoise and ZSL forced off for both of them.
The preview should get slow and laggy on cam 2 api but stay the same on Cam 1 api

I tried freedcam with 50 iso, but the photo actually got iso 100 still. You can also set iso 50 in snap camera, which still outputs 100.
Turn ZSL (0 lag?) is better for HDR? I heard a saying that ZSL is not as good as longer hdr, which is software implementation.

When zsl is enabled you can't have manual controls, so that's why I disable it. But also try in FreeDcam (cam 1) to set shutter speed and leave ISO on auto and see, it's possible to get up to 0 ISO.

cam 1 you mean Camera api 1? It crash a lot (every time I touch to focus, or use exposure longer than 1/3s ). I couldn't got iso lower than 100. Do I need to use hdr mode to get this or any mode as long as I set iso to auto and a long shutter?
hdr+ is out for mi5s
It's funny since people thought it was impossible 1+ year ago but now thanks to awesome devs more devices can taste the magic of Google Camera HDR+

480 fps Slow Motion at 720p Possible?

Hey all. So far I'm loving this phone!
I saw that OnePlus updated their 6 to enable 480 fps super slow motion video a while back, and since this is also a SD845 phone I'm wondering if Asus can also add this option to the 5Z?
What do you guys think?

Hey friend.
The ZenFone 5z's Soc can take up to 960fps
but there's no Dedicated RAM(DRAM) for camera to process that kind of frames.
for example: Sony Xperia XZP's camera has a DRAM with 128MB and high frequency (don't remember the number).
anyway, Try some other camera UI apps that may work.

Yeah I know what it is capable of, was just wondering if it might be possible for Asus to add the 480 fps at 720p option through an update like OnePlus did. Thanks anyway.
Bumping this thread back up.
Read yesterday that Xiaomi is sending an update to the Poco F1 which enables 960 fps slow motion video. As far as I know the Poco was never mentioned with having support for this sort of feature when it was launched. Any thoughts on this?
I'm going to contact Asus and see if they are going to include at least a 480 fps option since 960 fps requires different hardware (like RAM for the sensor).

Redmi Note 8 1080 60 fps support

Hi. Does somone know how to switch on 60 fps mode in video recording (1080). In stock app there is no option but in specification on official website it shows that 1080 30/60 fps is supported. Option to change frame rate is not there. I know that cpu is capable to pull 60 fps in 1080 (4k?) but out of the box it's just not there. What's going on?

Install Google Camera, which allows you to select 1080 60fps in video mode.
like this:
Yes that's fine. But Xiaomi claims out of the box 60p fps support in their website. Anyway, probably I'm not going ( if I'm going to buy this device) to use stock camera that often.

Not really sure about why 60fps isnt avaliable in stock app, only benefit of using stock cam is being able to switch between cameras, where GCam needs root to do the same task.
It also does not record 60fps on filmic pro or zy play for my gimbal.
Great news - MIUI 11 brings 1080p @ 60fps support to the stock camera app. (tested and fully working)

[Magisk][Module] Hevc Recording Enabler v0.1 for ZUK Z2 Plus

Hey everyone i don't own the device but @deathbreath2010 wanted to enable HEVC for this device so i made a magisk module for everyone to try
This module enable HEVC/H265 video recording on ZUK Z2 Plus
The bitrate values are the same as original and also half
the aac bitrate values are untouched
Why should I use HEVC instead of H264?
Basically, HEVC provide the same quality as H264, but using half the bitrate, this means that you can record videos with the same quality but using less space, or, if you're more inclined to that, record video that use the same space but with better quality (less compression, therefore less artifacts and more details overall).

On ZUK Z2 there is also a problem with slow motion in google camera. It only works sometimes and is quite dark compared to normal video. I don't know if this is also related to media_profiles. On Oneplus 3 slow motion in Gcam was fixed, but i don't know how they did this. Do you have any idea?

Yes i think slow motion requires low iso or shutter speed to work so it gets dark for everyone in slow motion. i havent really found a slowmo fix that works for oneplus 3 yet and i dont think its working for anyone if you know one that works for oneplus 3 i can try to make it work for zuk z2 plus.
