Android 9 Update Nov. 15 - LG G7 One Guides, News, & Discussion

I thought it was simply camera improvements and a security patch because this is all that was said (though the 812MB size seemed a little big for a patch):
Android OS Upgrade
Camera funcionality has been improved.
Usability improvements through Google patch.
Update size: 812.2 MB
Folks, we have Pie . Downloaded in Toronto on Bell.
Interesting fact: the screen buttons showed the Pixel "pill" as the phone finished booting, then it reverted to the traditional 3-button layout. Not sure yet if it can be changed to the pill in settings.

is the bootloader unlockable?

This means that the G7 One is the first LG device to update to Pie.
Quite exciting, I must say.
How is the experience? What has changed?

The phone feels a bit snappier, yet the geekbench score is a little lower. They might have tweaked the frame rate a bit in 9.0 to make things smoother. The search bar is now at the bottom like the Pixel, which I like. You are given the choice of using the Pixel's gesture navigation or the traditional 3-button layout. I'm sticking with traditional, as I find the gesture option less efficient. Battery life seems a bit better but it is too soon to tell. Stock Android is a bit more colourful now in the settings icons and pull down menu. Overall I like it.

Hi guys,
Be advised to remove your current microsd card before upgrading...
A few days ago, I installed the update to Android Pie on my brand new phone on Bell carrier (Canada).
Forgot to remove my microsd card and after the update ; it told me "corrupted sd card".
I had to put it on my computer to backup all the stuff.
Then I reinserted the card in my G7 One and reformatted it.
Then finally, I connected my phone to my pc and retransferred the data.
I had a similar experience on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge when trying to flash an Oreo rom over Nougat already installed and microsd card inserted.
My situation was similar to this post (I think they call that a "software lock") :
Can't post the url, but google "microsd corrupted after android upgrade", 1st result.

Removing card might help. But the problem is Android creates some folders and files within SD card which signifies which apps can access SD etc. So if you face the issue - just remove these android service dirs/files - something like Android, data, obb etc. Be careful not to remove your pictures/videos in DCIM folder. Use PC for SD card management.
Full reformat will work too, but it is a little extreme

I noticed it gave us a new amazon app to freeze in package disabled pro. But it did fix wireless charging and the fingerprint sensor seems to be much improved
So, definitely better fingerprint. Also, ran stagefright checker from lookout, and post update stagefright was completely patched with no vulnerabilities, so - that's good. I have sone weird brand wireless charger I bought on amazon which is shaped about the size of the s6, so never really had a problem aligning properly, but I've read on another thread that people are noticing better wireless alignment. I want to guess probably better mem mgmt, but that might just be placebo/wishful thinking.
Nothing quite new so far. Have noticed less lag when typing fast on the keyboard. It used to hang after a couple words then catch up. After switching to nova prime most of my system slowdowns were cured. Fingerprint reader has been good for me since the phone launched but glad to hear it's better for others now.
Still no raw/dng support from the gallery app unfortunately.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using XDA Free mobile app
Lag on fingerprint and, way faster battery drain. I wish I was crazy. I would say based of feeling there is at least a %8 to %13 faster but I'll double check. A bit snappier but there are situations where I do wait seconds for apps to open or links to be followed. I hope the writing is improved. I never had issues on my note 4. However the hand writing input is horrible on the note5.
That what I got.

Hi how do you download this instead of using OTA?
Anyway, they have not fixed the copy paste clipboard flaw where everything you copy and paste has double slot.. also for some reason the smart screenshot with the s pen now you arent able to just directly send it over MMS. You have to use a different app to open and save it then send it through mms.

How do you know that it's using 2 slots? Is there some kind of clipboard viewer app on this phone that I missed? (I had a phone once that had that, but I can't remember which one.. there have been so many...)

Yes, in between the symbol button and the comma button on the left of the spacebar. If you hold this button down it will give you the emoji, settings, the handwriting and lastly a clipboard viewer.
Here you can view i would say at least 15 of the last things you copied. However on the note five it is full of double copies of everything you have copied. Even if you copy it once.
The note 4 doesn't do it.
I also noticed samsung us using swype engine instead of the swiftkey like on the note 4. Probably because of that read/write access bug they found in swift key update checker.
Anyway it is very unusable.

Super V7.01_20170123 Android N ROM - SPFT + OTA release

Its finally here! The first final release for Nougat 7.0
For now its through SPFT. If you want the OTA you'll have to wait until next month.
http://community.umidigi.com/thread-6292-1-1.html
Enjoy!
OTA "is working" for me...
I have to download .zip file from UMI DIGI site copy to SD card and use "Local update" in phone update menu. No personal data will be removed.
Hi i am using version from october 20161017.
Must i first upgrade to 20161721 and then upgrade via SPFT to Nougat?
No need for that. Flash it from your current rom.

Because this is the first official version of Nougat the optimisation for Wakelocks isn't the best. Also when you upgrade to a totally new Android version you need a at least 3 charge cycles where you go from 100% to 5% before you charge your device up to 100% again. One thing I've done due to the poor Wakelock management is using greenify, it works even better if you have a rooted device.

The dark camera issue has somewhat been resolved in third party apps. I noticed a bug that still persist using the selfie camera on snapchat, taking photos looks fine but if you try video recording the screen goes very dark like the previous dark camera issue.
If the poor camera was just down to software don't you think Umi would've fixed it already? I mean i had this phone since July 2016 and not much has changed. I never got this device for the camera though but for the reasonable hardware for a very cheap price.

Try Open camera app on play store. It stopped twitching of the picture. But it was dark. If it's not great!
Im not an expert but i think the problem is that they take the camera module from i.e. Samsung Galaxy s6 and some new processor from MediaTek and can't make them fully compatible...or something like that...
i am asking here because in the umi forums no one seems to be interested in responding to questions.
does anyone still has android 6 installed and rooted? i would need the apk: mtkquicksearchbox
this is the grey searchbox enabled on the homescreen by default. with this one you could search and find everything and i have no idea why i now have to cope with that bad google one.
Any root methods for Android 7.0 of UMi Super?

I have bad news for you. THe Mtkquicksearchbox doesn't work on Nougat 7. Before switching over i saved the APK and when i tried to install it after i upgraded from N6 to N7 the app just won't install.
I believe it has to do with something on the writing permissions on the system. Even after rooting my phone and giving rw permission in es file explorer it wouldn't work.
I prefer the mtk quicksearch over google and hope this might come back in a later software upgrade by Umi but i highly doubt they will put it back in future releases of N7, i could be wrong though.

thank you for this answer, i suspected something like this.
Sim Card Not Detected
I updated my Android Umi Super through the local method.
But now my simcards cannot be detected.
I have tried re-booting...cold boots, Airplane Mode On Off
Simcard removal... Another Local Install
Etc.
What Should I do.
Updated to the latest firmware, now I'm getting constant soft reboots...
Tried through local OTA and the soft reboots started. Redownloaded and managed to get it to flash through local OTA again in between soft reboots, no change. Full factory reset, no change.
Tried updating through SPTool, still getting the same soft reboots every minute or so.
Any ideas out there?
Pls so I shouldn't download the v7.01...... Again if there will be problem right.
Microphone not working well after update
Since my upgrade to android 7 on my UMI super I have found a few bugs:
1.) Banking app is not working any more
2.) When I do a video chat with my friends they can't hear me at all and mostly hear white noise. This is the same on skype, messenger, watsapp calling etc. This was not present in android 6. I have reset my phone and still both problems exist Anyway to revert back to android 6?
Have they fixed the crap/no gps lock issues??? Or is that just a pipe dream???

So I have installed the update and did some quick benchmarks before and after the update. Interesting results. So naturally the benchmarks that happened in the morning were before I installed the update and the ones in the afternoon were after I installed the update.
As for the battery benchmark, I simply ran each test for 1 hour 10 minutes. So yea, the new update provided better battery performance but worse single core... by a little. Multi-core was a tad better with the new update. This of course is not all inclusive results, as I only ran one benchmark, and that has no indication of real-life performance. If I don't notice anything drastic in the next few days, I won't post anything else here, otherwise I will keep you posted.

I ran geekbench yesterday and did not see any real difference in singlecore or multicore performance (both +- about 5 points difference to last firmware).
Auto-brightness works much better now. Also it looks like "GPS icon staying forever" bug is gone for me.
Smart lock option is empty in my sony Xperia xz1? What should I do?
EDIT:
I was able to find the answer here: Yes, I would continue to receive OTA updates for the currently installed firmware.
Original question:
Having purchased the XZ1C in the USA, if I were to flash the ...12.75 Customised DE (for instance), would I no longer receive subsequent OTA updates? Thanks.
Hello
Update installed this evening (French time).
Good news, the update file is only 112Mo to download OTA.
some new functionalities:
contact shortcuts have a small contact icon
URL shorcut looks like a Windows shorcut, with a small black Arrow at the bottom.
I have to test more now.

Someone just say "Adoptable storage" or ability to move to SD card and it will be okay for me to never update my phone again!
On reboot, persistent GPS icon will not appear until certain applications make use of GPS-based location services (don't know which ones at this point). If the persistent GPS icon does appear, you cannot get rid of it until you reboot. I understand Sony is working on a fix.

Great! It worked for me. Thanks!
I wanted to try a different firmware, because of this bug...
Anyone else having problems with the stock clock app? It force closes when I try to open it (only on this firmware). The lockscreen clock and upper right corner of the status bar are unaffected - it's just the app that includes the alarm, timer, stopwatch, etc. I've worked around it by just using Timely for my alarm and stopwatch needs, but it would be nice to have the stock clock working.
No problem for me.
I just got the XZ1 (new from eBay), it had 47.1.A.2.313, I've updated to 47.1.A.12.34, looks good so far, and, this is Android 8.0.0.
I know there is at least one more update, perhaps the 47.1.A.12.75 mentioned in this thread. Is that Android 9.0.0?
I'll update to that, but not now, I'm using my phone. Is there any big change to the latest version?
This is my first Sony phone, since I used a Sony-Ericsson a long time ago.

Any major flaws/issues with Android 11/One UI 3.0/3.1 ?

Hi, I just got a Note 10+ and I haven't transferred over to it yet. I was playing around with it and before I knew it, the Android 11 update was pushed to it and as y'all know it forces it's way in even after you disable it. So far with minimal apps and no sim card, the phone seems fine. There are some missing edge panels I can't access anymore in the galazy store or google play for that matter.
That being said, are people here generally happy about Android 11? What are some well knwon issues?
I have been skeptical about Samsung phones since my Note 8 to Note 9. As they get updates, the phones start running more clunky. Almost like they purposefully want you to upgrade.
Android 11 (one UI 3.1) is all I know on this phone. I came from the Note 4 and S5. Just got my Note 10 as well with Android 9 and two days later did a system update to Android 11. For me, it was about 10 updates in a row and 2 or 3 of them were roughly 2GB. I should have done factory reset before doing the updates, but then again, I didn't have the phone that long before doing it. I wish there was a setting for the transparency on the notification pull down, apps drawer, recent apps, etc but's faily tastefully done. They give the option to change the tranpsarncy on the lock screen but not the main screen which is backwards. I don't like the new fat vertical volume sliders. They look nice but harder to use because your finger's in the way. LOL. The horizontal ones were wider than these are tall. Some say Android 11 is slower and harder on the battery. The battery life isn't as good as I hoped.
I don't have issues with Edge Screens missing in the Galaxy Store in Android 11. Never used Google Play for edge screens. but then again, I never used Edge Screens before, so I wouldn't know what was missing.
One thing I noticed right off the bat is the brightness of the Note10 isn't as bright when the brightness slider is set to the same position as my ancient S5. I put the display setting on Vivid and the white balance/gamma is too red. I put the Cool/Warm slider all the way to Cool and it's still a tad Red.

THere was this edge screen app called Edgeboard that used to be available and was available on my Note 9. It's no longer available
So battery life is shorter and Note 10+ is slower on Android 11. FFS
I don't see Edgeboard in the Galaxy Store. Just repeating what little I read about Android 11 and battery life and performance. Maybe others can chime in. I'm sure it's mentioned in this forum in detail.

You need to block the carrier update apk. Conversely if it downloads clearing the system cache (or maybe a factory reset) should clear it if it hasn't flashed yet. Last ditch effort and not a good long term solution.
If you avoid/ turn off wifi to stop the update that won't work forever because the update apk can turn on wifi and any other apks it needs as well as certain towers (AT&T probably other carriers too) are "update" towers that will download the update fast.
I use a package disabler to keep my updater neutered. https://www.packagedisabler.com/
An ADB edit is also another way to get it done on a unrooted stock phone.
Carriers like AT&T can block updates on their end if you pester them enough
Get it done asap whichever solution you choose.

Yes, CUSTOMIZED EEA 62.1.A.0.533 (Android 12) was released ( https://xpericheck.com/XQ-BT52 ) 4 days ago, but according to the phone update check and Xperia Companion, no software update is available. Phone is using stock firmware, WiFi/4G is available and I have made several restarts. However when CUSTOMIZED EEA 62.0.A.9.11 (Android 11 update) was released month ago, I got it right away, at the same release day.
Based Reddit, a lot users are facing same problem. Some say that software repair using the Xperia Companion pushes update to phone. But I don't want to and I don't have time to reset my phone and set up everything, including every app settings from scratch.

After switching from 11 to 12 android, you need to make a mandatory reset to the factory with the removal of all data in order to avoid bugs.

it is folklore, no such need at all.
I have received the update (62.1.A.0.533) this morning.
Installation took around 45 minutes.
Haven't had any technical issues per se so far, but am still struggling with the look and feel of Android 12.
i have been using the phone for almost a week now after the new update (62.1.A.0.533), i haven't done any factory resets, here is what i noticed:
1. Battery is draining a lot faster than Android 11
2. UI is a bit bulky, especially the toggle buttons. Definitely preferred Android 11
3. Screen Mirroring is not working for me. WFD service keeps crashing (that's a major issue because i mirror all my videos)
4. I had previously mapped the power button (click twice) to GCAM. Now it's not working. Only works with the stock Camera
Overall, a negative experience. I would not recommend the update.
If anyone else is facing issues please let me know

Post some screenshots of Android 12 on your Xperia, please.
Do you have separate toggles for wifi and mobile internet?
@Elberens, the same question for you too )
Hi guys, please keep us informed on how Android 12 behaves on the Xperia 10 III.
Hope that the battery drain reported by Elberens is just an isolated case, did you realized what is causing the drain? The app Better Battery Stats can help in detecting the cause of an abnormal power consumption:

I started BetterBatteryStats because I was missing the great battery history that Spare Parts allowed to call on Froyo. It has been a long journey since the first version. BetterBatteryStats provides an insight in following categories: - General...

I got the update notification yesterday and installed last night. So far I'm not having any technical or performance issues. All seems to be working. Still, I find the new UI a big step backwards in comparison to Android 11. Everything is so much bigger (menus, quick settings) using lots of dead space.
There aren't separate toggles for Wi-Fi and Mobile Data internet. You can't turn on or off with one tap. You have to open a submenu now...
The quick settings toggles are way bigger. You get only 4 in two lines when sliding down (or 8 if you slide with two fingers or twice). Which means that you will be needing an extra step for some actions.
I'm missing the functionality where on Android 11 I could use Google pay right away when holding the power button. Now there is a toggle in the quick settings instead (again extra step to use). Instead there is just a restart, shutdown and emergency menu if you hold the power button.
I don't get the new features of android 12 or it just doesn't seem to make a difference for my uses. The new bigger quick settings are annoying for me and if I had known before, I wouldn't have updated. If there was an easy way to roll back to 11 I would happily do it. But I guess I can't do that without flashing an older firmware on the phone. Maybe a future update would allow to make the quick menus a bit smaller?

I've read somewhere that after factory reset the separate toggles for wifi and mobile data internet would show up.
::edit::
Sony's Android 12 update has separate toggles for Wi-Fi and Data, but only if you factory reset
The Android 12 update for the Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III ships with separate toggles for Wi-Fi and mobile data.

another way:
[....] if you want to get back a dedicated button to toggle your Wi-Fi, Mishaal Rahman shared a command on Twitter that you can execute via adb to get it back.
adb shell settings put secure sysui_qs_tiles "$(settings get secure sysui_qs_tiles),wifi"
Right this morning I got the message of a System Update from Sony (I live in Italy).
I think I'll wait some days before update, would be like to read more feedbacks on how the device behaves under Android 12, in particular concerning the battery draining, I quite happy with my Xperia 10 III that overnight (9pm to 8am) drains just a ridiculous 3%.

1) Recheck again app -s permissions, disable or uninstall unwanted ones, disable location wifi/bluetooth scan and wait for few days until the battery is calibrated and user habits/trends are known for the operating system.
Also You may try enable system cached apps under developer options -

2) It can't be changed, and you have to get used to it and hope that some update will fix/change it.
3) This is something new.
4) Have You tried XPERI+ for remap - https://github.com/ivaniskandar/shouko
You must agree this is a rather ingenious way of getting people to update their systems regularly. You're not told beforehand what the update changes, and only afterwards do you notice that the update was a downgrade in every single aspect. You want to swear that you'll never install a system update ever again, yet you know that you will have to do just that in the hopes that eventually some update will fix what the previous ones broke.
I must admit as much I agree that a proper changelog should be displayed before any update, I do like that android 12 update. Getting older (ok, I'm not that old) I'm pretty happy with the bigger/new layout

On the stock Android 11 you can make the UI big from Settings > Display > Display size. This is in addition to and separate from Settings > Display > Font size. So I still think the forced size in Android 12 was not necessary...
I updated my device on Saturday, everything went OK. I'm rather satisfied with the new UI, display size and font size can be adjusted as in Android 11, some aspects are nice, some others less, on the other hand it's impossible to create a UI that is good for everybody. There are a lot of launchers and ways to customize the appearance of a smartphone, so this is not a problem in my view. Apart from the graphical aspect, Android 12 brings new interesting features and I think this is more important.
I appreciate that Sony kept the media volume steps equal to 30, which is finer enough for listening music. At the moment, the power usage seems to be as before, my device drained only 3% overnight (9pm to 8am) as with android 11, and that's great.
The smartphone seems responsive and fluid, I didn't explored all the functionalities yet, but I would say that this update is OK.
Is it just me or do apps 'reload' more often after the update? I feel like caching of background apps is worse but I'm not sure.
Other than that and the combined internet toggle, this update is alright.
The overall app managing should be more optimized in Android 12, however you could try the above mentioned option in the Developer settings (suspend execution of cached app).
There are just a couple of commands to be sent via ADB the to restore separate wifi/mobile toggles, I'm waiting to see how is to deal with the combined internet one.

Noticed this too. For example, if I use "Simple Gallery Pro" from F-Droid to browse through some videos and I open a video with Kodi, then after I'm done watching the video and return to the Simple Gallery app, it will often reload, forcing me to navigate the folder structure once again.
I didn't have this issue with Android 11 - returning to the gallery app would bring me back to where I left when Kodi was launched. I'll try changing that setting mentioned above by @code010101 to see if it helps.
