"OK Google" - Screen Off NOT Working EVR-L29 - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

Just wanted to know if "OK Google" is working on Model EVR-L29. I have done everything to set it up and when the screen is off, it's not working. Anybody experiencing this problem?

I couldn't get it working either so I just enabled Huawei's voice wakeup and that works with the screen off.

"OK Google" not working

Having lots of difficulties with "OK Google" on this watch. Bluetooth stays connected fine and so does wifi because i'm getting all my notifications instantly and it doesnt say that im disconnected. When I say OK Google the prompt comes up to speak...but only like 4 of the 30 times I tried did it actually work and not show the cloud symbol. I restarted the watch a couple times and the same thing happens, i've also done a factory reset since purchasing the watch 4 days ago. Thoughts? Thanks.

I found it to be very hit or miss as well.

I've not had it work once yet. The mic works as if I manually launch it everything seems fine.
I've tried restarts, factory resets & all the above. I'm pretty close to returning in all honesty as the voice launch is a huge deal for me!
I use my Huawei Watch with a OnePlus One on stock COS12.1 and have the same problem.
A lot of times when I use the watch to say "Okay Google" it will tell me it's disconnected. The only work-around I found was to quickly wake up the phone and it would start working right away. It seems like the internet pauses if my phone has been idle too long. I receive notifications in real time so I don't know what's really causing it.
I had the same problem with the huawei and a dutch HTC one M8.
The problem was gone after changing "Google voice typing primary language" from dutch in english.
And teach Google the sound of my voice in "OK Google" detection =>> From any screen.
Try turning off the restricted data for google app and google play services under Data Usage in settings.

I find it very hard for it to recognise my Australian accent. However, when I put on an American accent it works 100% of the time!
Any way of fixing that?

Did you try going into Google Settings on your phone? There's an option to retrain the voice model in there.

HI mate, yes I've done that countless times to no avail unfortunately. It works fine on my phone, but it's like retraining the voice model has no effect on the Huwaei Watch.

Dang, I was wondering about that. Sorry!

"OK Google" stops listening sometimes when screen is off.

Guys, I have setup OK Google to listen all the time even with the screen off. It does work but it looks like it stops to work after some time. I have to reboot the phone to get it working again. Is there something I can do to fix it? Any suggestions?
Thanks

Will kernels ever allow "Ok Google" with the screen off and unplugged?

Will kernels ever allow "Ok Google" with the screen off and the 10 unplugged?
Just curious if it's possible. I haven't seen it done yet, so I'm guessing no?

No. But you can do it from the lockscreen with even the stock kernel.
And truthfully, I pretty sure that the kernel has nothing to do with it.

It would cause high battery drain as HTC did not implement low power voice detection hardware into the phone.

Id say it's possible but improbable.
Reason being, you could be dialing someone even the police just by your phone listening to you. The odd background noise could set it off..
I don't even use on Google no more.. Just use your thumb, :good:
openmic is a solution: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.RSen.OpenMic.Pheonix
edit: i have tested openmic shortly, and doesn't work if screen off

Active edge not working on Android 9. Anyone else have this problem?

Since updating to 9 the active edge isn't working. In settings it reads it but it does nothing. I didn't see any other info on this.
Anyone seeing this or know of a fix that I missed? Thanks for any feedback.

All is working on my device.
Even "Active Edge Plus" is working for me!
Rooted/Magisk. But even when stock, it was working!
Does not work for me. I get the vibration and the 4 color dots appear where the home button is but Assistant doesn't activate. The settings are turned on.
Mine is still working fine.
All is good for me.

Have you modified the navbar at all? I am running navbar in immersive mode and active edge doesn't work for me.
Active edge and Google assistant/ok Google not working
I've got nothing, it doesn't seem to hear me. Followed all advice I could find and still nada. Active edge not working from lock screen and hey Google just doesn't hear me. You guys found any solution? I drive a lot in my job and i'm really missing voice activation
Had this problem too. The assistant had been reset and turned off after update. Also active edge was on but not working. Turned it off and back on and turned assistant back on and seems to work now. Wierd that it would reset itself.

Yes. Running XDA gesture navigation/immersive mode. Active edge (and "okay google" for the most part) is broken while enabled.
Does anyone have a workaround!?!??

Sorry, I don't have the phone anymore. I don't think anyone has come up with a solution yet though.
For those without AE after Pie update, have you performed a factory reset after update?

OK Google hotword working while phone is sleeping?

Does anyone have OK Google hotword working on their device to unlock device?
On my oneplus6t if the phone screen is off, and has been sitting untouched for awhile I can say "OK Google" and it automatically unlocks the phone, turns on screen, and auto launches Google listening.
Can anyone confirm if it works for their mate 20 x?
If yes, what model number do you have?
And does it work if you set up finger print to unlock the phone? (Will it bypass finger print and unlock)

Google actually removed this from Android 9. Some OEMs keep it. However is it's a security flaw and Google has removed it.

O gosh this is horrible.
After you said this I googled more info and you're right.
Surely this can be made whole again.
Couldn't we copy the APK from a Android 9 pie device that has a good working ok Google hotword and paste it into the mate20x as a system app via root?
There is this tasker profile that uses "Emy" to trigger/replace "Ok google"
Does it work when the phone is awake and in the homescreen without hitting any button?
Does this work on the China version?
