LTE drops and comes back as I send SMS/MMS - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

This is on T-Mobile in USA. It's no big deal...just weird and annoying. Anyone else noticing it?

Duplicate

Seems that enabling LTE High-speed mode fixed it. It's under Settings-Wireless&Networks-Mobile Network-More.
Anyone else can confirm enabling this is required to get normal SMS/MMS delivery on T-Mobile.

Nevermind....SMS causes no issues....MMS still does.

Don't recall seeing this on ATT (for the brief time I had the China version-don't have it any more; expecting the global model soon)

Would be very easy to miss as it really just flashes off and back on only for however long the MMS took to send.

Tweaked some APN stuff to match T-Mobiles suggestions for Android better and think it may have helped.

I've had the same issue since I got the phone. When sending MMS or opening the Visual Voicemail app my mobile data drops until I close out of the Visual Voicemail app through recents. Changing the APN or turning off Carrier aggregation or LTE High Speed Mode doesn't fix the issue,

AT&T service not working well with Temporary unlocked s6 Edge

I am having some issues and was wondering if anyone else is having them if you are using this phone on At&T. When I make a phone call it takes like 10 seconds to finally dial out. I also miss some incoming calls as the caller gets an all networks are busy signal. Is anyone else having any of these possible issues?
I am using ATT nextgen phone apn settings and all settings look perfect.
Thanks

change your sim card.
Thanks for the suggestion! You think that is it? The Sim works perfectly in my other phones including the nexus 6 which I am using right now. I only have the problem with the s6 edge
The t-mobile version supports far fewer bands. That also may be affecting things.
No problems here on mine. I've been using ATT Nxtgenphone and ATT Phone APN settings and it seems like both are getting 4G LTE no problem.
I am having very similar issue as well after updating my t-mobile s6 edge to 5.1.1. The SIM was change when I got the S6 Edge in April.

Help improve Verizon compatibility

The OP3 does work on Verizon, however there are some "issues" that can probably be easily fixed by someone who knows what they're doing (aka not me).
So far I can confirm 1X/3G (eHRPD) works. I have to enable data roaming for data to work, but I can make/receive calls, sms, mms, and cellular data.
I've also been able to force a connection to LTE by placing the phone into "LTE Only mode". However, when I do this sms, mms and calls don't work (only data works).
For some reason the phone defaults to 3G rather than 4G even though it can use both.
3G/4G data, sms, mms and calling are working, they just aren't working together.
I have done a lot of testing on ,apns and build.prop edits but I have not made any progress.
My personal theory is that the phone is defaulting to a US Cellular APN which then attaches to Verizon's network as a roaming partner.
I really need some help from the community to get this thing working right. Any help would be much appreciated.
I just wanted chime in and say I'm also on VZW and considering picking up an OP3. From reading your other thread, as long as I have XLTE/Band 4, I should be able to at least get some use out of the phone, correct?
The idea of unlocking Band 13 sounds like a fun challenge I'm willing to try!
@notjaykay I tried to unlock b13 but the nvram would reset after boot. Here's the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=67648238
I haven't tried to get LTE working, but I've been using Verizon on my OP3 for a week now. Most of the time I use Verizon only for SMS, MMS, and calling, but on several occasions when I don't have T-Mobile LTE signal, I switch to Verizon SIM for data, too. I only get 3G in this case, but it does work pretty well (albeit slow, at 3G speeds). I'm also interested in somehow getting the phone to play nicely with Verizon's LTE.
What about "telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=1"

I just made this change but I don't get Verizon LTE signal at my house, so I'll have to wait until I'm at work tomorrow to actually test it.
That build.prop edit will not get you LTE. I suggest using this app https://goo.gl/620Kc7 and setting it to "LTE Only". You may have to toggle the "turn radio off" option. Be patient and it will work. What you will find is that when in LTE only mode you will only get LTE data. I do all my calls and SMS/MMS using my Google voice number so I don't need traditional voice/sms services. However this is the point of this thread. For some reason the op3 defaults to ehrpd (3G) rather than LTE. Until volte gets working (doubt that will be anytime soon) we will reply on CSFB (circuit switch fallback) for voice and text. Not ideal but a lot better than what we have now.
I did find this folder with a .mbn file in the OSS firmware folder which shows volte config specifically for Verizon (check the attached screenshot)
Thanks for the info, @cdkg. I wasn't optimistic about the build.prop change having an effect, but it was an easy enough thing to try just in case. Unfortunately, in my case, LTE-only is out of the question, at least for now. I'm leaning toward porting my number to T-Mobile to give them a real try for a couple months anyway. However, if this whole compatibility with Verizon <=> OP3 thing ever gets totally worked out, I'd probably come back to Verizon.

Google Pixel 2 XL - No LTE on AT&T

My new google pixel 2 XL is stuck on AT&T HSPA+ network and will not go to AT&T LTE. I just got off a chat session with AT&T and they said it is a known problem they are working on. What the heck is wrong with Google that they cannot test their new flagship phone with one of the top 2 USA carriers?? AT&T Chat transcript:

i'm not sure this is accurate because i'm on AT&T and my Pixel 2 XL has LTE. make sure that AT&T has your phone's IMEI Number in their system associated with your SIM Card Number. if not, call support and give them the info and have them change it.
No issues here. Try a factory reset, or get a new sim

I had/have a similar issue (might be the same as yours) My phone would be on LTE but if i got a call (making the phone switch to HSPA) after the call it would not switch back to LTE. I would have to go to the hidden menu to toggle the LTE radio making the phone switch back.
I also got the NOV update ill see if mine is fixed too
Just recreated the issue you described. I was on LTE, made a call to check voicemail, and now I'm back stuck on H. Where is this hidden option you mentioned?
Thank you,
Cobb

With the new SIM, LTE should not shut off during calls. I had similar issue and a AT&T fixed it with new sim, and updating their database with the phones IMEI.
Can confirm VoLTE now works on 8.1. However I did have to contact ATT and have them update my IMEI to my account.
I'm having this issue where after a call it gets stuck on H and I have to manually switch from LTE to H back to LTE to get it to change. My IMEI is correct in their data base cuz I had to do that to fix hotspot. What is needed to get voLTE? I haven't had a new SIM card for probably a year if that matters?

What is your APN? I get LTE signal, but I do not get LTE speeds at all. Barely pull 4mb down/up..
I did swing by an ATT store and got a new SIM and updated my IMEI in their system over the weekend, no change since..

S20 voice/data freezes frequently when 5G enabled (T-Mobile)

Hi everyone,
I have a problem where the phone will display 5G but not receive or send any data. It seems to freeze up because instructing the phone to switch to LTE doesn't work, resetting APN doesn't do anything, and going to airplane mode and back doesn't fix anything either. The only fix seems to be restarting the phone.
Does anyone else have these issues? I'm probably going to just disable 5G for the time being since it doesn't seem to provide any benefit to me right now... (Los Angeles)
Thank you!
Note: I had a t-mobile S20, and now am using a new unlocked S20. Same issue.
Yep happens on my Samsung Factory unlocked S20 on T-Mobile 5G. In the service menu disabling 5G forces it on LTE and issue is gone. Looks like theres tons of reddit posts about it too. Wonder if its affecting other 5G devices as well

Thanks for the confirmation! Hopefully some updates fix this very soon. I'm sure Samsung and carriers would be aware of something this big...
Same here. Changing to lte from the connection settings does work but takes a while to actually change. About a minute or 2. Really sucks cause other than the no data it does full bars of 5g

This menu seems to be for testing... which icon do we have to press in order to force toggling back to LTE?
I'm shocked that we're almost at the end of July - almost 5 months after the phone released, and 5G is completely unusable still. Are others still having this issue??? I re-enabled 5G this morning to determine whether it would work now. I honestly expected it to be fine and perhaps freeze up later in the day, but it immediately died out when I did a speed test. 4 Mbps down and then 0 mbps up. Unresponsive for a couple minutes after that - wouldn't even go back to LTE when 5G was disabled.
Edit: it's worth mentioning that this is also a new device, and this time I went for the unlocked variant rather than the T-mobile device. Both devices' connections freeze.
i had similar issues here in the UK on vodafone - switching to 5G and no data was coming thru but switching to 4G and it was working fine
i had 5g switched off for months but turned on back last week, and now it works - although 4g speeds seem to be faster than 5g speeds
not sure if its the phone or the network - could be the phone as i tried the same sim into an oppo f2 pro and i was getting much better speeds -
just adds to the list of disappointments this phone has been - i really hope they fix iit but hopes are disappearing

Question Leitz Phone 1 on T-Mobile USA

I just started using my new Leitz Phone 1 on T-Mobile in the USA, for some reason I cannot get mobile data to work. I can send and receive phone calls and SMS messages no problem Just no Cell Data. I change prfered network type to 4G/LTE from 5G this did not fix the issue. I also successfully installed the latest build #S0029 so I am up to date.
Any suggestions?
Did you set the APN properly ? Have you check with your provider ?
You have to manually write the T-Mobile apn for both internet and mms.
I was unable to save the APN after entering it for some reason and gave up. You are allowed to write one, but when you hit save it doesn't show up to choose.
It shows APN settings are not available for this user
I was able to apply to APN but I'm not getting any 5g. Anyone having better luck,?
