anyone looking into the at&t and T-Mobile variations of the TAB S4 yet? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Questions & Answers

Just a quick question, but i have yet to see any discussion on rooting or roming and of the gsm versions of the tablet, Verizon has had the tablet the longest, but they are a no go with bootloader unlocks so its probably pointless, but i have some small amount of hope for TMobile and and a lesser amount for at&t version. thanks for answering, i bought the tablet anyways because it is literally the last good Android tablet left, root or no root so ill make it work either way, and themes will fix most of my issues anyhow

I had the T-Mobile and Verizon variants of this tablet and neither has "OEM Unlock" for the bootloader so rooting is not possible right now and most likely will require an exploit to be found to allow this. The community is small with these tablets from what I have seen so far.
Also, neither had the latest version of Firmware so Linux on DeX does not work on them yet. This could change any day when an update is rolled out but you will need to wait on the carrier to roll that out.
That said it is a Great Tablet!

fine to know i guess, all i need is a normal Android tab, might mess with the dex stuff but not why i getting it, i would only have rooted it when Samsung gave up on the tablet anyhow, as they always seem to do with the tablets in my experience

I bought the Verizon model not realizing it couldn't be rooted. I returned it.
Another big reason not to buy a carrier branded tablet is that it will be throttled data if using a voice line on TMobile.
However if you buy the Korean model, you can root, use your voice sim for full data speed voice and text apps, and get 6GB of ram.
This is the one I got shipped to the US. No issues whatsoever : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Ga...-LTE-Unlocked-4K-Record-SM-T835-/253816928507

Did you have to pay any customs/duty fees? Thx.

Nope, no fees. The item description warned of that but I didn't pay anything outside of eBay
I'm very happy and would do it again

The T-Mobile build was ARJ3 but it was the September Security Patch and a U1 bootoader. Linux on DeX looks like it needs at least the October Security Patch. Good Luck!

Verizon Tab S 8.4 - Did I purchase a Unicorn?

So, my local Non-Corporate Verizon store had a sale this weekend on the Tab S 8.4. I didn't even know this was available for Verizon. The only Tab S on the website is the 10.5 model.
So, searching the web, I have found a few sites listing this model, but not for sale anywhere.
It is SM-T707V. Looks like it has the snapdragon.
As for root or anything custom, will I be out of luck, since no one else has this model to test?
I attached a few images.
Thanks.
As for root, if their was a way to export a copy of your recover img and other stuff then someone can port root. But idk how to pull the files to get root. But your tab s is faster then exynos chipset
I'm about to have the same problem, I think. I'm getting mine from AT&T, and it's another T707. I'm getting the feeling that we'll be SOL when it comes to root, recovery, and roms. :crying:

I'm more amazed I got such a good deal on it, and that it exists for Verizon. It's not listed anywhere for sale on their website.
I'll keep an eye out for root. Just hope the updates from Samsung are timely.

If we can find a way to pull your recovery. Img and give it to chainfire or beanstown so they can port it. As of now no. I have no idea how to pull the recovery also. Not sure if twrp can work on your device? Is your bootloader locked?

Well turn off your device.
Now hold power, home, vol down till it saids warning you are about to install a custom os. Now just press the volup. If you can access that it should be unlock. Now to exit, now do power, home, vol down again and it should reboot.
I think there may be a way to root your model tablets unless the bootloader is unlocked.
My think was since twrp works on the 805 and 705 also, shouldnt that mean they should be the same for all versions of the tab s if the have the same chip? Because twrp was build for the tab s wifi devices but still worked on the lte devices. So what i thought is that they should work for the 807s with unlocked bootloaders the same way they did with the lte tab s. Then if they can get that installed all they need to do is flash supersu zip since cfautoroot does the same. Though this is jist a though but could get you guys root. Highly not recommned you try it thoufg. But just check if your bootloader is unlocked with what i told you and well see if the root method I thought of may start something. But twrp only works on eynos.... So.. Idk
I'd really just be happy with a working root method. A recovery would be nice, but not really necessary for me since there's not likely to be any development for these weird US lte variants.

Hi, where did you find the T707v? I have looked almost everywhere.
The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is available for other carriers, but I haven't found it for Verizon.
Thank you if you reply, Jeff
TCC Wireless - http://www2.ecellularconnection.com/
They are a non-corporate Verizon retailer. They seem to be the only ones carrying it.
It is an approved Verizon device, but not sold at Verizon corporate stores. ( I Guess )
Do you know if it is locked to Verizon and also has the LTE bands to work on AT&T?

Yes they do. I forgot to get on here and post an update. The bad boy is GSM unlocked with full LTE on the major carriers.
You guys all got unicorns (the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 with the Snapdragon). I wish I had seen this thread before I purchased the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 a few weeks ago. For some reason my Google Alert didn't pick it up.
I have 2 questions for those who bought the Verizon from TCC Wireless.
1) Was it $99 with a 2 year contract with Verizon or was it $99 straight up no contract?
2) What color is it, white or titanium bronze?
I'm a little disappointed that it only has the Snapdragon 800 instead of the 801 but either of them is better began the Exynos in the other versions.

LG G4 (Question, Help, & Money)

This may be kinda long but please read, I really need some actual help. I can offer a little amount of cash (Paypal) for someone to really help me to get what I want and need.
A few days ago I upgraded from a dumb flip phone that I've used for years. So the logical choice would be the new LG G4, the best phone out there as of now. So I've had it for a few days and I've noticed a few things that are really annoying me, but I'd like to focus on my main issue.
The main issue I've had is, bloatware. Now I am a computer person that if I buy a new PC / laptop, etc. I don't even use it until I reinstall Windows. I HATE bloatware more than anything, and I knew that the phone would have some bloatware that I figured I could uninstall and such. I know nothing about phones so I've been reading up and I came across the Debloater program that disables apps, which is nice but not what I want. What I want is 100% no bloat, I want the OS and drivers for the phone on the main features such as Camera, Messener+, Keyboard, etc. I don't want any extra space or ram or even the battery being used by anything besides my
regular apps.
I've tried task managers and such but even having them auto kill apps it seems that it eats my battery just as much if not worse.
I found out about rooting and ROMs in my research and from what I can tell. I need to install a custom ROM, and I believe the one that will give me what I want is CyanogenMod? I'm told its the Android OS and NOTHING more. This is what I want, but I wanna be able to still install Android updates from my phone and not having to reinstall the new version of the ROM, so I'm not sure how updating works.
I'm not sure if my phone needs to be unlocked and / or rooted to install a custom ROM? If I need to be I need someone to help me through these also.
So is there anyway that someone could lead me step by step in installing CyanogenMod? I've saw some tutorials and such but since the G4 is new everything I find on it seems kinda sketchy or really confusing, so if anyone is willing to help me on FB Chat, Team Viewer, Steam, any other messenger, PLEASE PM me ASAP. I rather not try and follow a tutorial on something this pricy, I can't buy another phone. And they never work for me it seems. Plus live person to ask questions to is something I'll need.
NOTE: I have the VS98611a model of the G4, and I have Verison right now, but I'm going to switch to Cricket since Verison removed my features like FM Radio, Themes, etc. Not way to get those back?
To do what you're asking is to require a unlocked bootloader. You're on the verizon model, and it currently doesn't have an unlocked bootloader. You'd need the h815 or the T-Mobile (I believe) models as they have unlocked bootloaders right now.
I believe cyanogen is on their final 5.1 build. As in no more updates or nightly revisions for stability. Unless I'm mistaken.
I haven't heard of an aosp Rom direct from Google being offered on anything aside from the nexus line, but I could be mistaken.

I'm ready to leave Verizon now so when I leave them it will be unlocked. So then that will take care of that, right? I really wanna get this done...
Either way there is a way to unlock them without having that model, yes? I've heard of people unlocking phones for years.
Anyway to check if mine is unlocked?
Your boot loader is locked. You can root the phone and remove most bloat. That is all you can do at this time.
There is no way to unlock the boot loader on your model.
Until a workaround is found, you have no other options. Enjoy the phone as is. It's a great phone

I'm sure Verizon will do it for me when I leave them or I can't use it for any other carrier. I could return it and buy the unlocked version. But is it really worth it?
Whats the difference between the models and which is better anyways? I think I'm going to buy the unlocked version from offline.

Verizon will not care at all. They will not unlock the bootloader.
Carrier unlock is completely different.

How do I get my disabled features back? The FM Radio, Themes, etc. Guess Verizon got rid of them. If I leave Verison will I get them back? Or since it's a Verison phone... I don't get them?
Basically it's a Verizon phone. You don't get them.
What are all the G4 models and their carrier?
Which models are unlocked?
Which models come with ALL features?Clearly the VS986 Verizon doesn't.
The H815 is the International version?? I hear its a bloat free version and its unlocked? Does it work with carriers in the US? Cricket, Verizon, Sprint?
I don't know what to do, so many models, no one has any information.

The International H815 can be unlocked and will work on GSM carriers such as ATT or T-mobile only. Basically, if your carrier uses a SIM card, it should work.

I want all my features, no bloat, unlocked, and works with Verizon and Cricket.
Which do I need to get for this?
You can change the Network mode on the Phone, from Global, to LTE/CDMA to LTE/GSM/UMTS, so as long as the H815 has those same options, you should be able to use it with ANY carrier, Cricket, Verizon, ATT, etc. Right? Just tell me what model I need to get what my first line asks.
H815 does not work at all with CDMA, (aka Verizon/Cricket/Sprint/Boost) You're best bet is going to be rooting your phone or waiting for a bootloader unlock. (bootloader unlock might or might not ever happen) Rooting your phone will allow you to remove most of the bloatware.
Honestly, you're freaking out over nothing.
Disable any apps you don't want to see, and they'll go away forever. At this point in time, bloat is only a concern for power users who want to fine tune their phones, as a first time smart phone user you should focus only on the great new features your phone will have.

1. Verizon got rid of some of my features I'd like to use. I won't EVER be able to get this back since it's a Verizon phone.
2. I need to move to Cricket since Verizon did the above and cost more.
I'm told I can switch, but I won't know until I cancel and go to Cricket. So I wanna know what version to get and go straight to Cricket.
Just because it's my first phone doesn't mean anything. I fine tune my PC like crazy and it runs amazing. I've turned everything off on this phone and yet it's down 11% not being used while I slept. That's bad.
Seems like the G4 sucks a little because only 1 is unlocked?

Cricket is NOT CDMA anymore. Hasn't been for almost a year since AT&T bought them and converted to GSM.
OP, get the H815. It will work on cricket bands and the bootloader is unlocked. It's exactly what I will be doing soon since I'm officially sick of Samsung (Sammy fangirl here, or used to be) and them turning their phones into crapple. I have cricket service as well. Good luck.

I'd be interested in what you wind up with. What do you mean many variants? If I pick one up, I want to make sure I get the correct one (sim unlocked as well as manufacturer unlockable bootloader) that is compatible with cricket. TIA.

Is it possible for me as an American to get an international note 7? Is it worth it?

I'm on AT&T, but no contract so, correct me if I'm wrong, there isn't any reason to buy the note from AT&T. How, as an American, do I buy the international version? The only place I see it is on amazon, where they're charging an extra 100$ for.
Additionally is there any reason not to go with the international version?
Just wait for the N930U. Or shell out the extra $100 for the exynos variant.
I'm personally getting the N930V with Verizon and I'll flash the U firmware later like I did with my S7 edge. You could do the same, unless you're more interested in a potential bootloader unlock.
The 930U is the unlocked American version? When does that even come out? I don't care about the bootloader, I just would prefer the exynos version because it's usually a slight bit better, but I'm not dropping 980$ on it.
The U version of the S7 was still a snapdragon. If you want the exynos, you'll need to get the international version. It's not out so that's probably why it's still pricey. If you want to save some cash just wait for it to be cheaper on Swappa or eBay.

would it be worth it to spend 100$ more to buy the Exynos version? That's what I am wondering too...
are there any downside?
Isn't there more support for Exynos version and more battery saving?
If you're a Flashaholic like me it is definitely worth getting an unlocked Exynos version with its unlocked bootloader.
But the down side is lack of warranty and some of the frequencies that you're carrier uses may not be available on the International version

Thanks! that's what I was thinking! and Exynos version seems to have better battery as well!
As for frequencies - it looks like they are good for most Canadian wireless companies.
Do we know for sure if Exynos N930F will come with an unlocked bootloader? (still waiting to order mine)
And what about warranty? Isn't Samsung supposed to honor warranty no matter where you buy it from on brand new phones just launched for a year since their launch date (it only makes sense and they used to back in Galaxy S2 days - from experience) *sigh*

Nope, from what im seeing they wont honor warranty in the US if you buy an international phone. Thats my major hurdle right now. I would really like to get some type of warranty. Even contacted Squaretrade and they said no. So will try upsie.
it's been a few years since I bought international, last phone was s3, what's the current state of international Samsung phones on att? do we still only get 2 compatible bands? I know theres a thing where you have to use the phone for 5 mins in that country with the country Sim card, anything else I should know about? speed and coverage still good? i been out of the game a bit so I'm playing catch up here.

I am in the same boat as you. Being able to flash my phone and play around with it, is my version of a work day stress reliever. Being an owner of a S7E and my old reliable N4, I cant wait for the N7 to be released. I will be replacing my N4 with it so I need to make sure that the Intl version will be unlocked. Will be following the early reports that will soon start trickling in as units arrive to their new owners.

This is why I like this community. Thanks for coming back and updating. This was my biggest issue and you have now solved it. knowing I can get a warranty alleviates the what if's for me. I'm paranoid and always insure my devices even though i have never broken one. So I will be ordering from B&H as well. They seem very knowledgeable on unlocked phone issues from the FAQ and they don't charge tax in some states. All Im waiting for now is to see if Root is coming and development support. I'm on T-Mobile by the way so I will not get VoLTE and WiFi-calling but TEKHD said he will work on that in his ROM so I have some hope. Thanks again.

I am on ATT and use the G935F right now on ATT and it works great - I don't knwo for sure if the N930 (note 7) will be unlocked but it seems like it probably will be - I htink the chances are high that the bootloader is unlocked and if that turns out to be true, root is not too far away - just need to get it in the hands of a few devs who do that sort of thing - and all should be good. I bought the N7 from BHP (link you posted earlier) they have it available for pre-order and in the checkout they offered Square Trade for Warrenty - I also used Square Trade when I purchased the S7Edge (international Version) So I don't think it is giong to be a problem for you if you want to use Square Trade or any other major warrenty program like Upsie. Good Luck

would you know if the square trade warranty would apply to people living in Canada as well?

Just wait for the N930U. Or shell out the extra $100 for the exynos variant.
I'm personally getting the N930V with Verizon and I'll flash the U firmware later like I did with my S7 edge. You could do the same, unless you're more interested in a potential bootloader unlock.

Interesting. What advantages does the U firmware have over the stock Verizon firmware, or are you just getting rid of all the Verizon bloat? Do you lose wifi calling and Samsung pay?

You lose all bloatware and Verizon apps. It essentially turns the phone into a stock Samsung expensive.
You will lose any carrier extras like wifi calling VOLTE and Verizon's own vvm service. For some reason they only allow you to install their voicemail apps on their phones. Samsung pay still works though, and to get around the voicemail issue I just use Google voice as a forwarding number if I don't answer. It's honestly better than any carrier voicemail service I've used as there's no extra charges and you get notifications anywhere.

AT&T version Unlocked-No Updates

As the headline states, I bought a Fold on launch day here in the U.S. My only option was the AT&T version as best buy was allocated only 6 units for the entire state on launch date and they were all AT&T models. Well, I am a T-Mobile user so I got the phone unlocked by a third party. Cost me $55 and had to hook it up to my PC but the phone was unlocked in less than three minutes. Phone is awesome in every aspect and although I still have bloatware and the AT&T logo on startup, the phone is amazing.
Problem: I see articles and postings about updates to the phone. Security patches, firmware updates that happened in October and now November yet my phone get none of them. Did some research and read a lot of back and forth over whether it was Samsung or AT&T or T-Mobile as to who would provide updates. Well, T-mobile doesn't carry the phone, AT&T will not update an unlocked phone of theirs and Samsung smart switch also does not work with AT&T branded, unlocked phones.
So here I sit with August 2019 security software and old firmware. with no way to get these updates. It's been ages since I rooted (or Jailbroke) a phone but it seems like this might be my only option unless you guys can suggest a way for me to get these updates. I would prefer to find a simple easy way to get this done over rooting but I don't even know if there is such a thing.
Any help or insight appreciated, thanks in advance for your time and efforts.

Change the s/w from AT&T ("U") to unlocked ("U1"). There's a thread in this forum with the files you need to download and instructions elsewhere on XDA. I changed my AT&T-branded Fold from U to U1 the day I set it up and have received two updates directly from Samsung. I'm currently on SK1 with the November security update. Leaving the phone running AT&T s/w prevents you from running call and messaging continuity and Hiya for caller ID and spam protection which are both pretty cool.

Thanks very much for the insight. I gave it a try and obviously didn't do something right but at least I know the solution. Now I just have to put all the pieces together. Thanks very much!

Thanks neighbor I manually updated to the latest. Hopefully I will get the next updates normally.
I successfully flashed U1 ASHA......no updates as of yet. Says I'm up to date but security patch is still August. Fingers crossed I catch the next one.
Do guys know if I do the flash to U1 unlocked. Does VZW wifi calling/texting work?

Ok, I read every page of this very long thread and am more confused than when I looked at the initial page. It has been several years since I have used odin to flash a phone. Would someone be kind enough to put a link to the latest U1 firmware and Odin download so I can get off to the right start?
I have AT&T Fold unlocked on the original firmware as I never received any OTA updates. Can I go straight to the latest one or do I need to do it in steps?
Much appreciated!
Edit: Just realized this was not posted on the long thread I was referring to, but still valid questions. There was another thread that was 14 pages long which I have been posting on as well.
I am having trouble getting the flash to work. Any assistance would be appreciated.

LM-G820UM on AT&T - Android 10 Firmware

I recently purchased a LG G8 (LM-G820UM) from China. It is an AT&T branded phone, but works perfectly with my current UK SIM. It is running Android 9 (Software Version: G820UM10m), but when I try to update to Android 10 it says, "Current software is up to date."
I am used to updating the firmware on Samsung tablets and didn't realise the firmware would be tied to AT&T, so when I tried to install the firmware from another carrier using LGUP, I was surprised to find it just wouldn't work and always gave up before it hit 10%. (I tried using the LG Flash Tool, but couldn't get it to work on my Windows 10 PC.)
Reading through the forum, I appreciate buying a pre-paid AT&T SIM might - only might - work, but I'd much prefer to source an AT&T Android 10 image or else use software that will let me install an Android 10 image from another carrier.
Given that an AT&T Android 10 firmware does exist, I'm surprised it is not available to download from somewhere. Or that I can't just install a non-AT&T firmware.
Does anyone know of any further avenues I might be able to explore?

I saw on here if you remove your Sim card, then factory reset and don't connect to anything including wifi, so skip everything to get to the home screen. Then connect to WiFi and check for updates it works. I did it and boom, I had to go through about 5 updates, but it all worked. Not sure if it will work outside of the US, but it's worth a shot.
That sounds interesting. I'll give it a go and let you know. I am in the UK, but perhaps a US VPN might do the trick if it doesn't work for me.

Good luck, it seems there some issue when it has a connection and it looks for updates during the setup and it breaks updates afterwards. So this is a workaround. I did all the updates consecutively, then rebooted and inserted my sim.
Gave it a good go. Full reset, skipped the intro pages, connected WiFi, but Software Update said I was up to date. Installed ThunderVPN (for apps & browsers), set it to USA and tried again, but same story. Then tried the whole thing again from scratch this time making sure I was on a US VPN prior to initiating the Software Update, but it was still the same ("Current software is up to date").
It is so disappointing not being able to bring this otherwise near-perfect phone up to the latest Android version, but I'm too short of cash to spend £10 on a SIM that only has a small chance of working in the UK. I'll just get on with my life and check back every now and then to see if one of the resident geniuses has come up with a fix.

No, I never did. Planning on checking back every few months or so to see if there is firmware available, but I rather doubt there will as AT&T seem to have the phone tied down pretty well. On the plus side, coming from an Xperia Z5, Android 9 is excellent, especially battery life, and although Android 10 adds a desktop mode, I've heard of some people having problems, so I'm not worried I'm missing all that much. So many tech issues, so little time.

You could find a solution, I have the same problem and I don't know how to update, I don't know if it would work if I bought the sim card
Likewise, got a deal on eBay and starting to feel I should've found out about the AT&T update troubles before purchasing smh
Did anyone ever figure this out? I'm in the same boat

I'd suggest looking in the 'guides' forum and following the 'how to cross flash' guide. Essentially, if you're using an at&t rom outside the us, then it's almost certain you're missing a few of the bands needed for you to have full coverage. It might be working, but there are probably some bands you're not getting.
So, the software / rom for your region is always the better one. If you successfully cross flash to that rom, you'll be better off.
