List of roms with "Novatek NT36672" touch screen module support so far. - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus Guides, News, & Discu

UPDATE: There is a telegram group with latest nightly builds of genom kernel, they are mostly stable, there may be a couple of ussues with some of them (like phantom touches or random battery inefficiency), however you can find kernels that support our touch panel in android pie, and oreo roms, and they run butter smooth compared to stock rom, (thank you rama982 and all contrubutors to Genom kernel). Just download a kernel build you like, and then flash it after the installation of rom. genom_ci
It has been an issue for a long time, since Xiaomi refuses to release kernel sources for this module (or so i been told), anyways, many people encouter the issue with touch screen that doesn't work after flashing custom rom (screen flickering, response lag e.t.c). This issue was brought up in this thread, however there is no answer to a question that excites most of "novatek" owners that are here - "what can i actually install of all roms". I decided to make a list of roms that happened to avoid this issue, i hope this will help users like me, so they don't have to spend literally weeks stalking, testing, looking around at all sorts of places only to find another rom that doesn't work.
1. This is the easiest one, all MIUI roms that are available for our device are working flawlessly, official global roms, custom ones, they all work (i personally prefer Revolution OS MIUI 8.10, since it has an option for the chinese bloatware and spyware to be removed, and i find it the fastest one).
2. Almost all nougat roms ( the ones that are based on android 7.1, (and maybe 7) ). Or at least 95% of them, i had issues with some of them, but it's okay that some roms are less stable than the others, you will have to find what works best for you.
3. As far as i remember, all roms based on android 8, 8.1 DO NOT work with our touch screen, except the ones that were mentioned here.
4. Who wan'ts a piece of a pie? I think everyone, but not all of us can get it, since there is only a couple of pie roms that work with our panels:
Aosp extended 6.0 (only 28/10/2018 release so far, developers told that they will fix it but they didn't so far, this release is pretty stable and snappy though).
Dirty Unicorns 13.0
(I really like the esthetics of this rom, and a philosophy that stands behind it, but release is missing some important features for me personally.)
lineage-16.0-20181115 (As stable as aosp extended, or even more. Perfect rom for a new user that doesn't care about a lot of features, and just wants to do basic stuff without any bugs and crushes) (IMO)
GZOSP from Here, it's even more simple compared to lineage, but a a bit less stable.
Thanks to rama982 we have Nitrogen Os, it works fine, things are strating to change. (Live a like to Rama982).
This list is potentially suitable for EBBG touch panel users, but as i have no device on hands to test it, i can't say anything about it. If you are wondering wich type of touch screen you have, you can dowload AIDA from play store, or any other "sysinfo" type of app.
That's all. I hope this will help you, it's the smallest thing i can do, as i love the community of this place even more than my morning coffee.
P.S. If i missed something, you can comment down below, or send a private message, we all make mistakes.

vince with novatek panel user here. Info here is really helpful. I'm trying out AEX 10-28 now. i tried the latest build and i got a flashing screen on bootup.

Try LOS16, Havoc, or Bootleggers - or try the latest Genom kernels.

I tried out AEX 10-28 for a couple of days. i went back to xiaomi eu beta for full screen navigation. i also opted for genom eas nightly for miui. i think i'll stick with this setup for a while.

Can i use genom kernel nightly on pixel experience rom to support novatek panel?

I flashed just now the latest build of pixel experience on my device with genom nightly build for pie roms and it worked... No blinking or screen and the touch is working flawlessly, still checking for small bugs

In case anyone is interested, nitrogen os is working great on my ebbg display

i've tried pixel experience like @jharone23 said and it's working fine. i also installed genom nightly and it runs smooth. i think they worked out most of the kinks for novatek panel. i haven't tried the 12-31 build of the rom yet. gcam v5 works great. i also installed gcam v6 for better back cam low light and i'm satisfied so far. no problems with gps and lte. no network drops on wifi and data. i have mine rooted and installed kernel aduitor, also installed blex and youtube vanced from magisk repo. google backup works like a charm. played ro mobile for 4 hours straight on wifi. everything is great. note for benchmarkers, you would get lesser score in antutu compared to xiaomi eu rom with genom. i used to get 84k score with that setup but with p.e. and genom i only get 80k with performance setting in kernel aduitor. overall a 4/5 stars for user experience just because i was accustomed to full screen navigation in mi eu rom. A 5/5 stars in stability kudos to p.e. developers and genom. i won't be flashing any other rom for quite sometime as my current setup is stable enough as daily driver. maybe t.s. could include rom in the list. thanks jharone23 for the tip.

Android Open Kang Nougat Version works well. I am using it as my daily driver. Radio also works now in India, VoLTE works. Only video recorder doesn't work. There are few strange audio bugs but better using Nougat which gets new builds almost every day than stay stagnant on lollipop with no official updates.

Difference between the two :
~ Aokp
- Antutu Benchmark is lower than Aicp
- Buzzing sound during boot needs to be stopped manually
- Phone gets over heated on even little usage
- VoLTE is buggy
- Stock file manager does not read SD Card
- Battery drains very fast
~ Aicp
+ Antutu Benchmark score is higher as compared to Aokp
+ Buzzing sound automatically stops after boot
+ Phone does not get over heated quickly
+ Volte works pretty well
+ Stock file manager reads SD card
+ Battery life is better as compared to Aokp
That's all i found between the two, hope this info is enough for you.

After some configurations, i need reinstall AICP when choose custom notifications (dark mode) with Substratum (DNA Theme). The system no more showed home screen (interf. init. error). Only with new clean install this problem disappear.
But... this problem can to be of DNA theme and no of AICP ROM, but this configuration run perfectly on AOKP, however, in ModernUI Theme, exist one configuration (Two Columns in Configuration screen) what only runs how selected in AICP.
In general terms, i liked of AICP and is my new choice for use.
Sorry for my poor english, my language is other.

Interesting ROM. Smooth, very fast, it is interesting to choose additional settings (not many, but the most necessary). App start quickly. Nova Launcher, Phonograph, Substratum. No root, strange but no camera (Snap Camera HDR works super). Good firmware, I think many will like it. But RR is better  (Google translation)

I decided to stay on this ROM for a few days for testing. (Google Translate)
So next week it's gonna be XenonHD.
Finally got to the letter X after about two weeks of flashing almost every AOSP ROM we got.
Man...on your Github thing it's like raining ROMs there. Xenon seems to be right in the middle in terms of custom options. Just enough for me.
It's like LOS but with Substratum and Nova.
On thing I noticed on every ROM is that on startup where you choose language the screen either turns black or sometimes green. You still can choose the languague by tapping the black screen.
Flashed most ROMs with gapps pico 05-20.
Thanks a lot for sharing your work.
Since you're searching for ROMs maybe you haven't heard about ScrewdROM (or ScrewedRom?).

Really like XenonHD. Been using it for the last couple of days and it's running very smooth.
It has Nova launcher, Substratum (which works flawlessly), internal root (but I use MagiskSU 12.0), dt2s on statusbar and lockscreen.
You can turn off the button lights and there is no preinstalled camera app.
Toast symbols work and there also are LED setting. Battery life is great for me.
Thanks for making this work on our device.
Also thanks for the many ROMs on the github page.
After using XenonHD for a week I'm pretty happy with it. Had not a single issue. ROM feels very smooth. Kernel test6 was also running good.
This is a ROM for people who don't need that many custom options. But it has more than Mokee or Octos.
Next I'm gonna try AOSGP from that new Github page, it has a lot of options just like crDroid or RR.
Hard to decide which ROM to use next. From test flashing I also liked Candy, Legend and Liquid.
---------------
@jimmy999x AOSGP has trouble with onboard Pixel launcher which doesn't work (flashed the ROM twice). Onboard Flick launcher does work.
I flashed Nova launcher and after rooting with Magisk Nova was very buggy (flickering and screen reset again and again), so reflashed Nova.
Again same trouble after uninstalling the Pixel launcher and Nova had to be reflashed. And once more after restoring some apps with Tibu.
Now after a day ROM seems very smooth and I will stay on it.
Thanks for the many many ROMs.

Hey, thanks for the update. Did a dirty flash over the last version and it runs great.
Substratum works really fast, Magisk 13.3 works. Spookcity's kernel 3.0 also works.
Battery LED shows when charging with powered off device.
I use the app Android Assistant to show the boot time in a message and here the app icon in the message is colored in the apps color...nice (before only white).
It uses the round icons and could be compared with Liquid ROM in terms of custom options.
Device is now G800 and no F so no certified device, but I don't care.
Thanks for the many ROMS.
BTW Cosmic didn't boot and Carbon showed error 7, am3d is Liquid dark and Emotion looks like AOKP and has some trouble with Substratum crashing also the interfacer crashes.
can we pleas get an update on this rom? i wanted to do it myself, but im new to compiling roms and i didn't get any good results. this is the best rom for s5 mini so far for me, and i tested like all of them. its smooth af, and the personalisation options are perfect, nothing more needed and nothing less

Stable aosp rom for 8T

Hello
I just recently bought a Redmi 8T that has MIUI Global 11.0.9 installed.
I am not so keen on MIUI, it looks great but I just feel more comfortable using an aosp based rom.
I see there are quite a few custom roms for these devices. Can anyone recommend an aosp based rom that is stable enough as a daily drive? I don't mind so much about having the latest Android version, I'd prefer stability than the latest.
A few added features to the rom would be even better,
Thanks,
I tried pixel experience, paranoid android, and as usual, lineage. I found paranoid to be the best so far, with pixel experience being second and lineage the "worst".
Why so?
PE I tried to return to, yet something worked wrong and after I flashed the ROM, device said there's no OS. That's why it's second, otherwise I liked it.
With lineage, whatever is said to work does work, but there's one huge problem for me: when I plug in my earphones, apps like WhatsApp or Telegram go mad. Also with lineage I am stuck with using only raw_sensor, and I don't like it. Yet if/when they'll fix this earphone problem, I'm considering returning to it simply because they way I'm used to using my phone is more possible by it.
There are some things I don't like with paranoid, which you can read from the thread if you like, but for now I'm there and can recommend with its limitations.

Best STABLE ROM for daisy?

Hi,
I am planning on repairing friend's phone (screen), and while i'm on it I would also like to de-google it = unlock + flash a custom ROM + microG. I did so on lavender using LOS 17.1 and except slo-mo and some minor location issues i'm very happy with the result.
Now, the thing is that it's possible that this phone will be used by my mom (if my friend will be willing to sell - for him it's a "in the drawer" phone).
That's why my priorities are for the ROM to be stable, reliable and maintained/updated (OTA preferrably). It would also be great if it was based on AOSP 10.
I'm not looking for "fireworks" like extreme customisation, gaming options etc.
I am taking into consideration:
Havoc (main candidate)
crDroid
Bliss ROM (although 10 Q is considered a beta).
...and in andvance I'm sorry for being a bit lazy and not using "search it for myself" method, but I think that for some of you it's a quick answer, while i would be digging through xda for days
Thanks

Just tested all 3 of them a week ago.
My personal opinion:
Havoc +++
crDroid ++
Bliss +
If I'm correct, OTA currently only works on bliss tho, but bliss currently using an outdated kernel so I recommend to wait for an update.
crDroid dev might fixed the OTA with the last update.
Even tho there's no OTA built in havoc, I still prefer it over the others. But this could change in a week, who knows?
Apart from stability, is there something worth recommending in regards to battery life? Are there custom ROMs that provide at least the same battery life as stock?
for me the best custom rom until now is this version: Bliss-v12.10-daisy-OFFICIAL-20200801

Unfortunately, the least painful method (installing LineageOS for microG) is not an option because this device lacks official LOS support. So when you finally go for it, I would appreciate if you would comment the steps (which ROM with signature spoofing support you choose, how do you install/flash microG, how you install/flash F-Droid...).

Try crDroid. It is official and uses LOS as base + has microG support.

I'll have to give it a try, thanks!
Hi,
I'm back - finally fixed the phone ...and now I'm "building" a degoogled device for my mom.
1) I saw that Bliss Q-based is not a beta anymore - that's good ..and it has OTA. I'm taking it into consideration.
2) On the other hand I would prefer crDroid (IF ...IF IT HAS OTA - can anyone confirm?)
3) No about Havoc which was my #1 until now - if it has no OTA (again, confirm? thanks ) it a big dis for me. BTW: Is manual update a pain-in-the-A? If it's as easy as downoad and flash via TWRP that's OK, but anything more on a longer term might be ...bleh ;P
@doragasu: If I install and degoogle my daisy I will tell you all about it. On lavender I had to follow a video on YT (microG + LineageOS), EXCEPT new microG framework is BUGGY (e.g. crashes when you try to go in "Location modules") so you have to install older version follow instructions, and when (as far as I remember) you install at least ONE location module, you can update framework.
Now, microG is NOT perfect - e.g on Telegram push notifications sometimes were missed (on Telegram X works fine), and location EITHER works 100% (GPS, WIFI, GSM) or 0% (still working on low-accuracy), although I rarely use location so it might take a while.
EDIT:
Ok, guys I think I'm gonna need some help :/ I tried to install Havoc 3.9 and I followed YT guide from here ( v=GylCEL_Xf_M ) but when I got to the flashing of the rom all i got was ERROR 1.
Help! ...i might figure it out myself, but maybe you know what's the deal. If I try to flash Magisk, all OK, but ROM, just
"Updater process ended with ERROR: 1".
...and it's exactly the same when I try to flash crDroid 6.10.
I'm clueless :/
Thanks

Best custom rom for Mi A2 lite

1.Which is the fastest, smoothie, bettery saving custom rom for Mi A2 lite?
2.Which is the fastest, smoothie, well optimised(ram management aslo) custom rom for Mi A2 lite?
Please help me and thanks in advance.
I went through several custom ROMs and ended at Android 10 crDroid. Even though most custom ROM devs now switched to Android 11 (R) development, from my experience the R ROMs are still too new and too buggy for daily use. A custom ROM probably won't help you save much battery, but for RAM management, you'll see massive improvements given how terrible it is on stock.

I don't have exact measurements, but it feels about the same on the one I'm using.

This GCam: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-the_dise/f/dl0/
Remember to enable HAL3 in Settings - System - Camera HAL Switch. Also portrait mode (the blurry background thing) and HDR+ don't work on selfie camera, so you have to disable them before taking selfies. Everything else works well.
Thank you so much
Syberia os
fast system, but it has its own problems as in other custom firmwares. As I understand it, no custom firmware developer is able to fix some bugs due to the fact that some bugs are found on absolutely all firmware for several versions of android in a row.

I used Android 10 crDroid. More than often the bottom navigation bar became unresponsive. Real show stopper for me.
What's the situation now? I realised that the phone is no longer getting security updates which is not great. I haven't flashed custom in years, but I remember it was a bother to get banking apps working. Is it still a problem? What's the most reliable and secure custom out there?

Almost all of the custom ROM available for Mi A2 lite is very stable and bugless. Ram management was never a problem in custom ROMs and battery life provided by customs is very near to stock ROM ( keep in mind the battery is very old).
Banking apps should work fine. But it also depends upon the app itself. You can pass safety net and app requiring only safety net should work fine.

Do you need Magisk for safety net? I remember I had to do that with my old LG G4.
Which of ROMs is best when it comes to security updates?

For some ROMs you don't need magisk and for some you do. Almost all the ROMs for daisy are up-to-date and receive monthly updates.

I know I'm being a pain, but which one, considering my questions, would you recommend?
Thanks

There isn't a "best", your experience will determine which is the best for you. I have tried POSP, arrow, crDroid 7 and all of them are very stable and up-to-date. They differ only in customizations and such. Search what do you want and see the specific features of each ROM.
Battery life and stability cannot be compared across users and different ROMs. You can choose any one of the ROMs, all of then are very good for daily usage.

Have you been able to get Android Auto running on any of those ROM's? I tried a couple of ROM's a year ago but AA never worked except on stock (which is no longer updated as we know).

I've found unofficial LOS 18.1 the most stable. Almost no issues.
