When you plug your phone in to the PC using a USB-A to USB-C data cable (not USB-C to USB-C) are you prompted with an interface to change to data transfer? Have you tried toggling on data transfer (in developer options) as the USB default? Rotated the USB-C end of the cable 180 degrees? Tried a different USB-A to USB-C data cable? Tried a different PC?

USB Drivers for Epic 4G Touch

Does anyone have a link for the drivers for the Epic 4G Touch? My phone is not showing up on adb and I can't seem to find them.
they should be the same one as the epic no?
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SPH-D710ZKASPR
Should be there when they're released ... all that shows up right now is the user manual.

I don't think so.
what drivers are you refering to? are you trying to access your USB storage inside the phone on your computer or what are you trying to do? which USB drivers are you refering to?
Connect to the computer with usb debugging disabled. It will install a driver, then unplug, enable usb debugging, and you should be able to see it with adb

I did actually, and Kies couldn't see the phone.
Also, the phone did not see a USB connection, though it was charging
per the documentation I tried to mount as mass storage device through Wireless and Networking. This didn't do anything either, phone still charges.
I had borrowed the USB cable from a co-worker, I had him plug it in to his phone, and it works just fine, just XP machine sees his phone.
Turns out, its something with the cable.
rummaging around for another cable, I noticed I had my XOOM and its cord with me. Its the same type, but its the Moto brand one (if that makes it any different?)
plugged it in instead just for ****s and giggles. It works.
Phone just doesn't like his cable for whatever reason.
Now Win7 sees the phone, and Kies sees it (doesn't like the debugging mode but whatever)
His cable was an LG branded one. Any one know if there's something different?
I've tested 2 LG branded usb cables and they do not work. Same thing you described.
I found it in pull it out half way the phone recognizes USB and the computer sees the phone but if I try to transfer files I get a "device disconnected" error... Or something like that. I can see the files, just can't touch 'em.
I could not believe that the cable is have been using on tons of devices for years wouldn't work only on this one. I'd sooner believe it was the computer. So I grabbed a coworkers much newer LG branded cable and same thing... I still didn't believe it after testing 2 cables on 3 computers... Though I had a hunch from the first second I plugged it in I still can't believe it... And then I read this.
Explanation please, lol.

I downloaded Kies as well, and it did install a driver called "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device", but I don't think this is what I need (trying to root).
Whenever I open Odin w/ the phone connected, no COM port mapping number displays...
Using the USB cable that came w/ the phone.

Have you considered getting your USB adapter/port checked for issues? It could be possible that the adapter no longer has the ability to send data, but only charges the E4GT when connected; try using another USB port on your computer.

Tried all ports --- updated all drivers... even formatted my computer... its definitely the phone.
I have three computers here and none of them are working with it --- and the weirdest thing that I just noticed === it seems like its just showing the charging animation... I left it plugged into my computer when it was supposedly charging, screen turned off, check back in 20 minutes and it had gone down by 20% --- it's just like its triggering the charging animation
If your phone will charge but won't transfer data, there is a strong possibility it is actually a problem with the cable. I tested 3 LG micro-usb cables which all worked fine with an LG phone, but would not transfer data with the Epic 4G Touch. The would only charge. I thought my USB port was busted at first also because I tried 3 different cables and this is the first time I've encountered a situation where micro-usb cables were not universal.

When connected to your PC, you should see an icon in the notification bar of your Pixel C titled "USB for charging." Click on this and change from "Charging" to "File Transfer."

Phone isn't recognised by computer nor is my USB C stick

Hello,
I hope someone can help. I am trying to get my computer to recognise my phone. I am not rooted and I have Marshmellow 6.0.1
I unlocked developer options. I bought a cable and it worked! The computer saw my phone. However it stopped seeing my phone. Why I don't know! But when it did work I saw the driver was not for the 5x but from my S4. Well since it's not working I ordered the recommended USB cables by Benson Leung Tech Matte. Still unable to see my phone. Tried cables on another computer with same results. The computer I tried it on recognised my phone and then it also stopped seeing my phone.
I also bought a usb c stick to use on my phone. My phone responds to the stick but when I choose for MTP from charging nothing happens and i cannot access the USB Stick. In Dev options MTP is selected. I also noticed that USB tethering is not available. I have no clue what to try next.

Thanks for the drivers. USB Debugging is on. When I toggled Charging popped up instead of PTP and so I kept toggling and it finally went to PTP and so I toggled MTP and it goes back to charging! So I kept at it until it finally went to MTP. Is this normal? I counted 12 tries before changing from charging to PTP! But the computer doesn't see the phone. I did it a few times

i honestly never thought about this, is this even supposed to work without some kind of an OTG adapter. i mean sure, the plugs fit, put do the pins match/work for that configuration?
from how you describe that your phone reacts i would guess it doesn't, and it sounds more like your phone goes into client, as opposed to host mode.
very interested to see what someone with more knowledge of the matter would have to say about plugging a usb-c memory stick directly into your phone.

I've used several phones on my PC and at first it had a little trouble but finally settled in. Kind of like a new ROM. You have to give it a while to settle in and get its groove on.

not really a surprise there, but what OP described was putting a usb-C stick directly into the phone, without any cables or adapters in between, with the question emerging if that is even supposed to work (which in his case didn't) due to possible problems of the pin-layout, etc.

that does not explain his PC suddenly not recognizing his phone anymore though.
at this point it sounds to me like either there still is a driver issue (e.g. the mentioned S4 driver wan't properly uninstalled), or one of the usb ports (phone or pc) has an issue.
try different ports on your PC and make sure other devices work with the ports. if not try if you can get it to work by applying a little pressure in different directions to the cable and listen out for windows' annoying usb sound.
on the other end make sure your phone really is connected correctly to the cable. it should snap in just like the OEM charging cable which took some time getting used to to overcome the resistence of the usb-c port.

I tried my Samsung Tab II tablet and my old S4 on my PC and they both work as advertised. Recognised right away and I hadn't used my tablet to my PC before. What I think is maybe its the USB on the phone itself?

Hello again,
I Hope you guys like some feedback about my issue. Contacted Google and they asked me just about all the same questions and had me do some screen shots and try some of their ideas such as factory reset, trying other computers and other cables. Nothing worked so they sent me a new phone! Just got it yesterday. Would have been here sooner but I was busy!
So got new phone setup and the computer recognizes my phone on PTP but not MTP. Also my driver for the phone is a generic nexus and the it still shows up as a samsung! How can I get the new driver if when i do a search for new driver my computer says I have the best driver already installed? I don't want the driver to still be a problem. So i hope you guys have some answers. Lol! I know you guys do!!

Pixel 2 Xl USB Preferences Greyed out

Yesterday, I unlocked the bootloader of my Google Pixel 2XL running android Pie using a mac.
Once, the process was completed and i set up my phone again, i lost usb mass storage.
I searched over internet and tried everything.
From enabling and disabling USB debugging to clearing internal storage and others is App info.
I hard reset my phone again but to no use. I don't see a usb debugging prompt.
I tried multiple cables. Infact it stopped working on the cable and the port i used usb mass storage on before.
Android auto had also stopped working. The phone only charges and does nothing else.
I am able to change the default usb to usb storage, but under USB preferences, only charging is selected and all options are greyed out.
Can someone please help me?

Does fastboot mode still work? If so, I doubt it is a hardware issue, and you can simply reflash a full factory image.
What was your remaining battery percentage? This is happening to me now but my battery is at 15% so I'm going to charge it up a bit and try again.
FYI battery saver is NOT currently enabled on my device, but that feature can definitely disable a lot of functionality so it's always good to ensure that it's off when troubleshooting. Another detail is that I still have a locked bootloader yet I'm also experiencing this issue (of grayed out USB options) so it may be coincidental and unrelated to you rooting/unlocking.
Did you find a solution? This thread is quiet so far but appears unresolved...

I charged to 20% and it worked but that may not have been it either. I noticed that wiggling my usb-c connector (adapted from micro usb-'a' to usb-c) may have been the culprit. It seems that my adapter has a shaky connection

This is a common issue w/ the Pixel devices on Pie, and is a cable issue, usually from using USB-C to USB-C cable, whereas an -A to -C cable is fine. Reference:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel...me_change_usb/
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel...2_xl_charging/
However, I ran in to this using the Pixel Experience Pie ROM on my Nexus 5X, and found it was due to one of my little microUSB to -C adapters (with a -A cable). One adapter works, the other doesn't, (cable didn't matter) even though it was no problem on the stock ROM; same brand (TechMatte) from the same 2-pack, in fact.
I have this same problem. My wife has the same phone with same OS but doesn't experience this problem. The only difference between our 2 phones is mine was a part of the beta program
I stopped being able to use USB either for file transfer or for adb. Google told me to install drivers which really doesn't work when the PC doesn't see your phone...
I tried a different computer
and it did see the phone and said that it installed drivers.
When I put it back on my PC it was working again.
Failed again, USB options all grayed out, and I used different (new) USB-C and that worked.

Try cleaning the charging port with compressed air, and Qtips with a little isopropyl alcohol. It could also just be bad from time or hardware failure.
Same issue of me today, but cable is good because other pixel 2 xl works great with it... it is a usb port issue on pixel, charging works, usb connections not.
I am having the same issue on my Oneplus 7 Pro running Android Q. With me it started happening after updating to Android Q. Plugging in a USB drive o the phone is not working neither, it works if I boot into recovery. Seems like lots of people are having similar issues:
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...-to-any-computer-or-android-auto-car.1069725/
After moving to the January build I'm now having this same issue. I tried:
"Now go to Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> App Info (See all X apps), and tap on the three dots in the top right corner, then tap on “Show System”. Now, in the app list, find and open External Storage, and tap on the Storage section. Clear the Cache and Data. Go back to the app list, find Media Storage and repeat. "

But that didn't help me. Anyone know what else to try?

After moving to the January build I'm now having this same issue. I tried:

i tried it, and it only works for a couple mins. Trying it again dosen't do anything anymore.
Yep me too it seems, no file transfer to lappy or ADB, charging and usb stick work fine, cleaned and googled to find this seems a problem for many pxl2 users in the last few weeks.
For a flashaholic like myself it's a big issue!
any update? I just bought Pixel 2 XL
I've tried everything,
best attempt is cleaning the port usb c, connect using usb c to c on MacOS the "usb for" enabled just for few seconds, and then back disabled again
here the list what I did :
1. update adb
2. usb A 2.0 to C, usb A 3.0 to C, usb C to C - doesnt work, only charge
3. even OTG, can't read flash drive
4. restart phone after change usb debugging also doesnt work
5. using fastboot, someone said to make sure the firmware is buggy, doesnt work at all !!
6. after cleaning usb port, still doesnt work...
So I sadly don't have any fix on this, it still doesn't work for me after Jan update. I tried posting to this site:
https://support.google.com/fi/thread/257513?hl=en&dark=1
about this matter with no success. I guess I will have to open a support ticket with Google. Has anyone else here done that? The reason I haven't is based on that Google thread it doesn't look like it went anywhere when people did open a ticket.
So I just tried moving up to the March build on my Pixel 2 xl and was successful. So it looks like Google sent out some kind of update that corrected the issue.

Question S22 not visible in Windows device manager over USB -> can't transfer files

Hello,
my new S22 is not visible in device manager so there's no way to enable file transferring, only charging works when connected to my Windows 10/11 PC.
Also the "USB for file transfer" notification below is not visible at all for me:

I have tried with 2 different cables and 2 different PC (Windows 10 & 11).
File transferring works fine with S21.
I have tried enabling USB debugging, and installing the latest Samsung USB Drivers from https://developer.samsung.com/android-usb-driver
I have checked the "default USB configuration" is set to "Tranferring files" and *#08080# is set to "MTP + ADB".
Only "Link to Windows" (the problem with this is you can see only 2000 latest photos) and Samsung Dex works.
Is my brand-new phone defective ?

This may sound stupid, but flip the cable over and plug it in. Yes, I know, it doesn't (or shouldn't) matter which way you plug in a USB-C cable. Not all USB-C cables are created equal.
I've had this happen to me. It wouldn't recognize my phone, but when I flipped it over and plugged it in, it worked.
I had to go through all of my cables to check for this. I tossed the ones that caused this phenomenon. It seemed to be all of my older cables I had purchased when I had a Note 8.
Use adb push and pull

This didn't work. Tried flipping the original USB-cable.

Is USB debugging on?
If so did you grant the computer authorization?
My USB-C -> USB-C stopped being recognized, hade to go with USB-C -> USB for computer to recognize it again. Device is S22 Plus.
Solved! I tried a 3rd cable and it started working.
So my original S22 USB-C cable is faulty, as only the charging works.
Yes, my S22 also works with only few cables (I have tried like 10pcs including completely new ones and like 1/3 is working). Samsung is restricting from using other cables for other purposes then charging. Its not the cable fault. They are working with other phones and charging S22 properly. Its just something between heaven and hell why Samsung is trying to f*ck us and make our daily lives more complicated...

Do you know what brand and model cable you got working?
What specs the proper cable should have? Having the same issue.
Having the same issue. And adb connect <ip>:5555 also refused for my case
