WHY - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

OK, dumb question...
If I have smart lock enabled (I know that it has it own set of problems, but not what this one is about), and the S9 is unlocked on the home wifi (it is) why do I get the lock screen that I have to swipe away after pressing the home button on the AOD screen?
I also have an S8+ (android 7) that I do not have to swipe away the lock screen, as it only appears if the phone is locked.
Sorry about the title, I hit enter by mistake...

Just go to settings -> display -> navigation bar and check that "unlock with home button" is turned on.

How Do You Acvtivate the Slide-to-Unlock Feature in 6.5

I'm running the latest nfsfan 6.5 rom
I'm not talking about S2U2, I'm talking about what everybody with 6.5 seems to have when they turn their phone screen on. A lock slider near the top of the screen located in the center that you can slide either right or left to unlock.
I've looked around my setting but see no mention of it so I'm using S2U2 in the meantime.
Start button, then "Lock" at the bottom of the screen?

start>setting>system>lock> put any kinda lock you want.. >lock in 0 min.> ok> turn off screen> turn it on
You could also try csdevctrl. It locks the phone when after the device has waken up.

You can also hold down the end key which will bring up a quick menu.
My friend installed 6.5 and his lock screen pops up everytime he turn the screen on. He said it was a very basic instal, no extra cabs or customization.
When I do
start>setting>system>lock> put any kinda lock you want.. >lock in 0 min.> ok> turn off screen> turn it on

it forces me to put in a password. That is not what i want and it's time consuming.
Start > Lock - works but i wish it would just require a slide whenever i turn the screen on
wtf
the way i use it is to hold the End button and automatically locks the screen, that is the best way i have found to use it without having to input a password to unlock, plus i dislike to have 3rd party software to do stuff that the OS should be capable of doing in first place.

Download the WWE-Chobit Company SmartLock 1.7E.cab and install. This will show up in your settings and give you some check boxes that will make life easy.
I tired Cho's app, it messed up my touch keypad.
Had to remove to be able to type letters instead of symbols.
No joy here.

How to activate slide to unlock in winmo 6.5
You can have the screen lock and unlock it with or without a password. Having it with a password lets the phone lock automatically after a specified amount of time. Conversely, without a password you must lock it manually to display the lock screen with only slide to unlock to access the phone.
Just try de-selecting the "Prompt if unused for" box in the lock screen settings:
Step 1: Start menu/settings/lock [Then clear the checkbox]
The password "type" grays out and the "password" and "confirm" boxes clear. Hit OK and it will allow you to unlock without a password by sliding to unlock. The only thing missing is automatically locking after a certain period of time; so you have to manually lock each time by pressing Start, and the Left soft-key at the bottom of the screen (Lock).
You can also change your power settings to make this process a little more automatic. You can have the screen turn off automatically without having to press the power button after you do the start/lock maneuver.
Once you manually lock the phone, the screen will then turn off automatically. The next time you're ready to use the phone; press the power button-screen turns on-slide to unlock. Or if you get a call, you get the winmo 6.5 slide to answer screen (by changing the power setting this way, the phone doesn't power off, it goes into standby.
(This way you don't have to install anything, have conflicts with the ROM, and can prevent premature hardware button failure)
Step 2: Start/settings/system/power [Advanced tab: under "On battery power" select checkbox-turn off device if not used for and choose shortest time interval]
It won't turn off the phone, it'll just turn off the screen after the time you specify and you don't have to worry about accidental dials or button presses. Turn off backlight just dims the screen.
No need to press the power button to turn off the screen (changing the power settings makes it automatic), so once it's locked you can put it right in your pocket. When you're ready to use the phone again, press power and slide to unlock.
Start -> Settings -> Personal -> Buttons -> "End Key" Tab -> Select "Automatically execute the selected action:" -> Select "Lock device" -> OK
Hold the "End" button to lock device.

Lots of solutions to one problem that should not have occured in the first place. Why didn't you copy the iPhone/S2U2's behavior, MS?
Alreading mentioned here but install CSDevCtrl and in its settings
check box "lock when device wakes"

Change Lock button to a more of a soft lock

Is there a way to change the lock button on the right to more of a soft lock.
every time i hit it, i have to enter my pin in again. so it would be nice if the button acted more like the screen timeout.
Any ideas?
You could turn off your lock password?
I can't. The phone has to be connected to our exchange server, which requires a pin at the minimum.
I don't know if you have owned a blackberry, but if you press the lock button it doesn't require your pin to be entered until a set amount of time, but still sleeps the display and doesn't allow input.
There is an app on the market that may do what your looking for - "Password Delay Full". There is also a free version but I don't know what the differences are, I figure it's better to get the paid one to support the devs!
There is a built in lock delay right?

Yes, with this option you can set delay upto 30 min. for the screen to lock out after it has been turned off.

That doesn't work. It says "Lock screen 'X' minute/s after screen automatically turns off."
That means if you leave your phone there with the screen on, it will lock X minutes after the screen turns off by itself. If you press the lock button, only way to unlock is with passcode. My Sensation didn't do this, hopefully there's an easy option on this phone.

Right, I have the same problem and am looking for a solution. HTC Sense has this working properly, but on Samsung the power key does the full screen off + lock rather than just screen off and let the lock delay lock it.
Very annoying. I'm guessing that a Samsung TW update or a new ROM could fix it.

[Q] Wake > Bypass Home Lock Screen > Remain in App

So far i'm loving my new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (i317m). I've modified the setting to bypass the lock screen when i click the Home button.
The issue i'm seeing now is the screen is blanked, i click the home button, i can see the app i was using before the blanking BUT the screen promptly flashes taking me to the Home screen.
Is there any way to have the lock screen removed AND to have the home button NOT take me to the home screen IF when the home button is pressed the screen was blanked? A simple IF conditional.
Thanks for any help.
I'm trying to understand your AND statement "AND to have the home button NOT take me to the home screen IF when the home button is pressed the screen was blanked"
The first statement is easy, just pick no lock in settings but + AND statement?

Thanks so much for the response.
Yes the "AND" part is the tough part and the reason i asked it. I will clarify. The situation is this. I am well aware of the option Lock Screen >> Screen Lock | None. This was a useful option when i discovered it some time back as now when my unit blanks and i go to hit the home button to wake it up, the unit wakes and take me automatically to the Home screen bypassing the annoying Lock Screen. Terrific.
For those of us who have this option set will quickly notice an issue. If, for instance, one had Google Talk app running before the screen blanked, and later returned to wake up the unit by clicking the Home button (expecting to continue within GTalk), he will briefly see the GTalk app and then it will disappear and will now see the Home screen. One must now navigate back to the app.
I would like the Home button, if pressed to wake up the unit, to remain in the current application. This would be similar to the Power Button functionality. I'm hoping there is a "fix" for this nuisance.
UPDATE: It seems Samsung recognized this nuisance / bug and has corrected it within 4.1.2 but sadly it wont be available thru my Carrier for at least another 6 months (Canada is a bit slow with updates).
** I still would appreciate any work around in the meantime
UPDATE:
I neglected to mention i had the settings of S-Voice modified disabling opening S-Voice if the double click of the Home button occurred. I did this to speed up any Home button clicks.
I just discovered if i have this settings enabled it appears to prevent the click of the Home button to wake from exiting the existing app. The prob now is my Home button takes 1 sec (as opposed to 0.4 secs) to snap back to home when pressed. Sheesh.
Ugly but it is a start.

Hit the home button again when you're on the lock screen. One press calls it up, the next one gets rid of it. Its state persists through unlocking and relocking the device.
Is there a way I have not found to turn that off?
I use the Q/R, I just don't want the Home Button to bring it up.

Do you see a lock screen if you leave the phone open and press the power button (to lock the phone) than press it again (turning the screen back on) while making sure not to use a finger you have set up with fingerprint unlock?

I don't think you're going to get what you want. It's a very niche desire you have.
Not many people want to have no protection of their device but still want to have to clear a lock screen stay opening their phone.

Because, the assumption is if you pick up your phone while closed you'll either use the lock screen on the outside screen or open the device to use it fully.
If you leave it open and less the power button, you want it to lock. It will then show the lock screen of you press the post button again because that's the default behavior. Show lock screen on current screen.
If you unlock the Fold 3 while it's closed then it won't have lock screen when unfolding. Since device is already been unlocked when it was closed. So to avoid this you have to unfold the device first then unlock that way you will see lock screen.
