Chat Features in Messages - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

Anyone else have the issue with enabling chat features in Messages? I'm not sure if it is a carrier issue or an issue with Messages or the device? I've tried contacting my carrier and getting them to reset my RCS profile, but apparently they are having "issues" with doing this. I have read that others have had this issue and replacing the sim card has fixed it. I tried doing that yesterday to no avail. I get the attached message and then nothing ever happens. I've tried clearing cache and data for Messages, trying again, rebooting, etc. No go. This was a feature I really wanted to get enabled on this device. My carrier (Rogers) does offer RCS messaging, but this simply is not working or not provisioning with the carrier server.

Since no one ever responded here and the carrier still hasn't come up with a fix, here is what I did to enable chat features and get past that "excuse the wait..." screen:
Restarted the device
Go to settings-apps-android messages and then force stop
Launch Google Play and uninstall messages
Then go back to Google Play and install latest version again
Chat features are then enabled. Not that it's that big of a deal because if the people you are texting don't have a phone that supports RCS and even if they do, if they don't have chat features turned on, then it still won't work. It was simply bugging me because the option was there and I couldn't get it enabled.

I am with rogers and have same issue. How do you uninstall messages? It only uninstall its update. Do you root to uninstall complete messages app?

I'm also with Rogers, and this is the solution that worked for me. I found it on the Rogers Community forums.
You have to disable the app called Carrier Services, now setup RCS through the Messages app.
Then you can reenable Carrier Services.
I also rebooted, but I don't know if that's necessary. I hope this helps.

If you force stop it, you can uninstall. It may only uninstall the updates, but it does uninstall after you finally get it to force stop. I had to try force stop a couple of times.

I didn't have to do this portion. When I went into Messages after doing my steps, chat features were automatically enabled.
What was really funny is Rogers kept sending me emails telling me they were "working on a fix but hadn't found one yet." When I got another email yesterday stating this from them, I chatted with tech support and told them I had fixed it myself so they could stop sending me emails about them working on it. Then I get an email from them stating that "they had fixed my issue..." LOL. Sure, sure you did.

I can't honestly say this was the cause, but my issues didn't happen until I updated to the January Security Patch. I'll try these steps tonight to see if I can get them re-enabled.

Does Rogers sell the Pixel 3 in their stores? I'm curious because I have purchased my Pixel 3 from Google and I'm using it on a carrier (T-Mobile) who doesn't sell the P3, but is starting to support RCS. However, their version of RCS support appears to only be enabled through a carrier supplied software update to T-Mobile branded phones. I'm afraid I'll never be able to use RCS on the ONE phone that comes with RCS support out of the box.
But if you were able to get RCS support without Rogers selling the phone, then there may still be hope for me someday!

Yup. Both the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL in their stores, online, etc.

If anyone's RCS won't work after clicking "yes, I'm in", just disable carrier services, go back to messages and opt in again. Once working, enable carrier services.

Chat features work in Messages App by Google LLC for me nearly everywhere now:
- Huawei AL10 P9 running Emui 8 Oreo on Telekom network in Hungary on WiFi (no Data subscription)
- Samsung Note 4 N910V LineageOS 16.0 Pie on Telekom network in Hungary on WiFi and Data
- Samsung Note 4 N910V LineageOS 16.0 Pie on GoogleFi roaming in Hungary on WiFi (cannot get LTE Network/Data connected to any tower)
- new device Google Pixel 2 XL Android Q on GoogleFi roaming in Hungary (will test in July)
On my home MikroTik router WiFi, where I run a domain and webserver, i forward port 80/443 to the webserver.
This is the only WiFi network, where I cannot use chat features for unknown reasons.
QUESTION: WHAT PORT(S) DOES RCS / CHAT FEATURES USE ON A WIFI NETWORK FOR COMMUNICATION TO OTHER PARTY AND THE PROVIDER SERVER (IN CASE OF FILE TRANSFER)
Google Fi support and Telekom HU Support dont understand the simple question or they resist to answer me, by replying constantly with the copy/paste of troubleshooting guides that I read all already. Either those are bot replies, or Google started to employ Level 1 people that are forced to reply automatic text. Telekom HU Support always was a big pain in the ass.

did you every figure it out?
Did you ever get this figured out? I've put my router in full DMZ and I still can't get RCS chat features to work on my home WiFi … but They USED TO WORK until a month or two ago... not sure when, It was my wife who noticed. tred 4 phones on 3 carriers, non work. many businesses have notices on the front doors too because it's killing employee's batteries while they work all day. Google refuses to answer.

I never succeeded yet
I assume (as a RCS novice) support has no idea what RCS is and Google has support agents that have also no idea and the people who developed this left the company or got kicked out...

I also think that my webserver port 80 and 443 causes this, I will try disabling the forward cause my webserver died waiting for replacement unit

I changed the forwarding to not forward ports 80 and 443 to a dedicated IP, still did not help
the router behind my mikrotik router and its wifi is capable of getting a status Connected
the mikrotik router itself and its wifi cannot get beyond Connecting...
I wonder if that might have to do something with IPv6?

Hi. After resetting the phone to factory settings, I can not turn on the chat features, the message configures is displayed, after a few attempts the message "confirm your number" appears, after three attempts the message "limit exceeded try again tomorrow" and so on overnight trying. There is a solution to this problem?

Google Services block in Pakistan, Any work around? :(

First of all i did not found an apropiate sub forum to start my thread, so really sorry if this is a wrong forum. I owned galaxy nexus so I thought this would be a good sub forum
Now let's come to the main issue.
Recently an anti islamic movie was upload to Youtube. Which creates alot of tension in the 3rd world.... Pakistan's government block the website across the Pakistan to protest against the video. And YouTube will remained close till the removal of that video (which ain't gonna happen like this).
As you all know that Pakistan is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Pakistan telecommunication authority hire inexperienced IT experts due to political pressures. These incompetent employees and government could not manage to block the YouTube properly at first. So PTA immediately block the IP of YouTube. But in doing of such impotent work by our ****ty government more then half of Google services become unusable in Pakistan. We can't connect to gmail account on our android and not even play store.
We can not download apps from the app store because of such failed action of our government.
As you know that YouTube is owned by Google. Yoiube IP is same as most of the Google's ip's.
PTA have blocked the IP so many Google services had stop.
In light of above explanation I need a work around on how open my gmail account and play store. Any help would be highly appreciated.
I know through proxy I can unblock the websites. But I,m unable to sync my gmail account through proxies because of the Google's high security. And I still can not download apps via market through proxy.
Give me a good suggestion. Any work around, any good proxy please.
Any modified Google play store.
I have galaxy nexus, galaxy note HTC desire and Asus transformer. All of them could not connect to Google services due to this blockage. And I know this problem had spread across whole of the android users in pakistan.
Refrain from political discussion or abusing thanks.
THE THREAD IS CLOSED, YOU CAN GO TO http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903105 for Solution Thanks
I don't think a workaround will work unless PTA lifts the ban or at least unblock ip's affecting google services. I have a galaxy note and I thought it was because of the custom ROM I was running. So I did a full wipe, nothing happened. Then I checked on my brothers HTC one X which was on stock and he was having the same problem. PTA guys are a bunch of ****ing retards. Thanks for starting this thread, I hope someone comes up with a solution. Btw, I started experiencing this problem yesterday while youtube was blocked a few days before. When did you first start experiencing these problems?
Well for websites I know there are sites I know you can use to mask what you are looking at, but I don't think it will work with services based in apps.

How are you trying to connect to google services, via WiFi or EDGE? If WiFi, then which ISP (PTCL DSL, Wateen or some other?) I see you're on Warid's network.
I'm in Karachi and my Google related accounts sync/work fine over wifi but have a problem over EDGE/2G. If you're trying to download apps from mkt I can only assume you use wifi for it (because on EDGE speeds it would take you forever to download any apps at all). PTCL is the only ISP that has a problem as far as I know. I know in Lahore and Karachi several isp's are working fine in this regard (Wateen, WiTribe, Worldcall, etc).
If you're trying to get google services to work over EDGE on Warid then you can just use gmail and market etc from the browser, which works fine. Only the apps themselves have a problem (like email sync which takes really long).

I,m from sialkot,Punjab. here all edge networks and ISP are having the same issue. I had tried Wateen, Witribe, and ptcl they all getting the same issue, i don't know if they are working through the same channel or not. i have tried edge over ufone, warid, mobilink. but still can't open the play store and contact syncs in gmail account on my android.
On my Gnex i,m running on Slim bean 2.5 rom, and AOKP on Asus Transformer. All of them are getting the same error.
if your play store is working good, i heard there are some apps in play store which can direct android traffic through proxy channel. kindly research on it and see if one of them can work for youtube app in android. i think that is possible. because if i modify my access point(wifi) setting in android, and set proxy setting to manual, and enter the proxy ip with port. i can access youtube and i can also sync gmail. but that channel only work for 2 or 3 min :/. i kept on changing proxies ip and ports. but not working

Thanks for your Post. Is there any apps on play store which can direct all android traffic through proxy channel? i have tried modifying my access point settings through wifi advance settings, and set proxy mode to manual and set ip of proxy. that is a possible work around and my gmail and youtube also work for 2 or 3 min, but not a permanent work through, can you please research on any work around. if possible. i,m looking to subscribe Hidemyass.com for complete anonymous Ip. if it can work on android through some kind of proxy app.
You might be able to do this using a VPN. Settings > More > VPN. You'll need to find a free VPN service that will give you the login information. I'm sure there's one out there but I don't know any off the top of my head.

Try this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aed.droidvpn ? DroidVPN free has a limit of 100MB a day which i guess is good enough for sync purpose?
if you have a rooted phone then you can use this proxy in your wifi settings. I tested, it works. not too slow either

I don't understand the problem, what issue are you facing? If you have a UBL WIZ Internet card, just login to play store, press buy on any app and enter your card details like you would with any credit card - your card number, the cvc/cvv code at the back the expiry date and your billing address - works fine here
Make sure you call UBL's phone help line first and give them your card number and confirm if you are authorised to make online transactions
EDIT: It doesn't matter if the price stated is in US$ or Britis Pound or Euros or Kuwaiti Dinars, UBL bank will convert to Pak Rs with their prevailing bank conversion rate and charge your card for the right amount automatically
FWIW, I used Witribe today (in Pindi) and Playstore works fine. PTCL is flaky - sometimes, yes, at other times, no. I'm on Mobilink (I think I need to update my profile) and I couldn't sync my account with Google the entire day.
So - it depends from ISP to ISP. Your best bet is to either use Onavo Extend - or Orbot (Tor) for Android... or another VPN solution.

[Q] "Sign in to network" notification

Hello,
A few days ago I started receiving a notification saying "Sign in to network" and below that the name of my carrier (see the screenshot). When I click on the notification, the browser opens up but does not load any page and just stays blank. At that time the notification disappears but then appears again after a while.
Has anyone seen this and do you know why it may be appearing? I am fully stock on 4.2 and unrooted.
Thanks!
Does nobody know?
Hi,
Same problem here (with Mtel network operator),
After updating to 4.2.1 the problem still persists. After I click on the notification it asks me to open in a browser and then opens this address for a second 173.194.70.101/generate_204 , and turns into blank page.
I think that when I walk away from one network cell to a another it asks me to sign into the new cell, but I am not really sure..
I`ll keep posting if I find the solution..
Not sure if there is any difference for GSM variants of Gnex, but have you tried updating your PRL & Profile?
(Settings>About Phone>MTel? system updates)
Sometimes after a flash/upgrade until I update my Sprint profile, service seems spottier. Only other thing I can think is that your phone somehow is no longer provisioned with your carrier, shouldn't be the case (I think) when dealing with GSM carriers since your SIM what provisions the phone, but maybe poke around settings to see if there is some sort of self-provisioning option, or call M-tel.
Check your APNs. You might need new/corrected APN settings or something. That usually shows up when you're on a network (usually WiFi) that needs a user/password or accept a disclaimer to get through to the internet.
However on a mobile network the APN should serve as the connection settings and the SIM serves as authentication to the network. Normally you wouldn't be able to connect to mobile internet. Does MMS work?

Hey, guys, thanks for your input. Actually, since yesterday I stopped receiving this notification all of a sudden. I have not done anything in the mean time, so I guess it was something on the carrier's end that got resolved or something.

Hi there. By trial and error i found out that this icon starts appearing when the carrier throttles your internet speed. For example, I have unlimited internet traffic but when I reach 512 MB of traffic, the internet speed is lowered to 128 kbps. This is when the icon starts appearing for me. I also found out that if you dismiss it, it will appear again if you change connections (e.g. go from wifi to mobile). I find this behaviour annoying but I found no way to prevent it, as it seems to be something on the carrier's side.
I have the same problem only on my android phone (4.2.2) Samsung Galaxy S3 when I am at my home WIFI..
Could it be a virus. only diffference is the IP.. my browser tries to load this: 173.194.35.99/generate_204
i've blocked this IP. I can't even access play store now! rest all things work

i dnt think its caused by virus. Try check ur apn setting. Or reformat ur phone.
When you connect a mobile device with Google Play via WiFi, I have found that I must allow ssl traffic via port 5228. This connection I think is an authorization service deployed by Google. If you trust it or not, when you block outbound port 5228 (or if you block Googles' ip's) you will see the "sign into network" This is because Google Play assumes (poorly) you are connected to a WiFi network which requires a captive portal login (ie Hotel WiFi sign-in page). I am no dev but I believe the "generate_204" thing just forces the mobile browser to open a new tab so the login page will appear. It's not spooky just annoying.
Why did Google choose to deploy ssl over port 5228 and not the standard 443? Not sure, but it might lead to your Firewall's security policy blocking it as it did for mine.
I started getting the same notification on my nexus 5 recently. I had reached my data fair usage allowance and so it started appearing. I noticed that in the data usage setting the warning bar was set to my fair usage limit so I just raised the bar and hey presto no more warnings. Based on this I reckon when your data usage cycle resets each month you'll see the warning disappear until you hit your limit again.
Just done a quick test by dropping the data usage bar back to where it originally was, turned off WiFi and started browsing the web. The warning appeared again.

I have had this issue ever since I got this current phone (not a Samsung, but hear me out). From what I can tell, it is because it can not contact someone (probably Google) via cellular network. I also get this when on a WiFi connection with no internet (or very, very slow), further supporting this.
I am in an interesting situation. My carrier only has 1 APN for both MMS and data combined. However, I only get MMS with my plan, not full data. Therefore, I need to keep data enabled in Android to use MMS. Because of this I get this notification ALL THE TIME.
I'm going to try to get a logcat when it happens and see if I can find the exact service and maybe kill it. I'll update if I figure it out.

Hello,
A few days ago I started receiving a notification saying "Sign in to network" and below that the name of my carrier (see the screenshot). When I click on the notification, the browser opens up but does not load any page and just stays blank. At that time the notification disappears but then appears again after a while.
Has anyone seen this and do you know why it may be appearing? I am fully stock on 4.2 and unrooted.
Thanks!

I have the same problem. It make notification at the time u linked to mobile data too, and i can't suffer it any more.So i have searched all internet and have no progress. But i found the way to block its notifications rather than voiding generation.
It's a notification generated from "Android System" and seems like a network-check function. So the problem have the mobile carrier's part(I'm in china, you know). And u can't block all notifications of "Android System" using tools like LBE or Gravitybox or anyothers cause it is useful all the time.
This Xposed Mod can help us: NotifyClean, it is the only tool to block several notifications u want of one app.
Use it in ur rooted system with xposed framework, and open it from xposed. It can log all notifications and u can tick the "Sign in to network"s in "Android System".

is sprint store employee right? - horrible network problems

Took my Note 2 in for help today. Phone refuses to update Outlook data. hard reset, etc.
Duplicate results in store. Tech explains that this is in fact a Sprint problem. It is a by product of their efforts to upgrade their network and I will not have outlook data for the next 3-6 months. It may be spotty, one day yes, then nothing for a week. There is nothing they, or anyone else can do.
He suggested I call retention for a credit, but told me all carriers will be going through this soon.
So much there to digest...
First off - really this is all network trouble?
Second - ATT, Verizon etc are going to have this problem in the future?

The thread title should read:
Sprint store employee IS right - (Sprint has a) horrible network.
Well, sounds like you need to do trouble shooting because there are a number of things that can be causing your issue. Assuming you have internet at home through something like a cable or DSL provider, I would check to see if you can update Outlook when connected to your home network. If it doesn't work, assuming there isn't a firewall issue, then the issues is on the GN2, most likely.
If it updates, then the apps is ok, but it's something else. I would look into to make sure you have data connection. If you can use the web browser and load pages you haven't visited, Netflix, Pandora, or something that needs an internet connection to work, then it's within the app. If no data connection, then it's Sprint or device issue, and what the employee could be accurate to your situation.
I'm not familiar with Outlook, but if it's an app, I would look in it's settings. You may need uninstall and reinstall. Maybe relink your account or something.

Outlook data to a pc went through wireless tether yesterday. I cant imagine that is true, that would disrupt every corporate employee on the network... even their own.
Seriously?

I agree with your trouble shooting tips, but you don't know what Outlook is??
Sorry, I guess if you haven't worked in a corporate environment you may not have had to deal with Outlook before. Outlook is actually Microsoft's e-mail client for their Exchange (e-mail, calendar, contacts, to-do task list) Server and it only runs on Windows.
What he is really referring to is updating the Exchange Server which is supported by Android and several Android based e-mail clients. Exchange is used mostly in Corporate and Government environments but it is not exclusive to them.
As I said, your trouble shooting tips are exactly right. I have had a lot of trouble with updating Exchange over the years and it seems like it is hit-or-miss as to whether it is going to work from one day to the next.
However, I don't know of any reason why you would not have access to Exchange for weeks at a time due to Sprint upgrading the network. And even if you can't get to it through the 3G or LTE Sprint network, you should still be able to get to it through a Wi-Fi internet connection.

One of the things I checked, as it would not update the Exchange data over wi-fi in the sprint store.
Curiously every Samsung device I tried (tablet 10.2, Note 2 and S4) had the same problem. But HTC devices did not. So I now have a One.

LOL, yes I know what Outlook is. I have worked in the corporate world and used it. I didn't work in the IT department. I even used it at home for a while. I stopped using it years ago.
What I meant was that I wasn't very familiar with mobile version and how it is setup. I only mentioned it to let the person know the limits of the help I was able to provide. I'm pretty good with general trouble shooting and narrowing where the issue may lie, but if it was app related, I probably wouldn't be very helpful.

That is strange. My Note 2 works... most of the time. My Transformer Prime tablet works... most of the time. After you said that I realized that I didn't have any problems with my old HTC Evo either. I wonder what it could be about Samsung that Exchange doesn't like.
Exchange doesn't play well with others.

I kinda like Outlook on my desktop. It is very stable under Windows. I don't think there is an Android version of Outlook; if there was it would have to come from Microsoft.
Back to OP's notes. I mentioned this before and it was confirmed by an XDA user who's also a regional tech. There IS indeed a network issue and those affected should be on PRL 2000 to help mitigate that. It does suck because you don't get all of the towers - and as long as the N3 comes through with Tri-band why I'll be trading this one in for it.
Some of the things that may happen: No push notifications (async updates), inbound calls, etc to the device. Sounds very similar to what I had for a few months.

Is there a reason this would only affect Samsung? What you are describing is basically what was happening with the N2 and similar to the explanation given by the Sprint tech. It was quite maddening when it would actually load several days of data, then they would suddenly disappear while the tech was holding the device.
What is interesting to me is that the HTC is not affected by this. Though the general radio strength is weaker on that device, apparently it does not have the data problem.

S4 also isn't affected. At the time I was told this was related a new network feature - SO73.
http://wireless.agilent.com/rfcomms/refdocs/cdma2k/cdma2000_gen_encoder_oprtp.html
...and it was only in certain markets. Since they are saying every other carrier will face this it makes me think it's a data compression or VoLTE thing where not every phone was designed for the network upgrade and will take it well.
It would seem device specific if this was working or not. Beyond the N2 I heard some iPhone users also say they've been pushed to PRL 2000 - not sure if it was for the same reason. And if you're not on PRL 2000, get on it. I still have issues in a few remote locations but it is 90% or more less than what I was having and could re-create on demand.
All the more I'm eying the Note 3 as a possible replacement.
Have you tried using a different e-mail client for your Outlook sync? It may be an issue with the Samsung email client and your Outlook server config.
Personally, I have a Note 2 and Note 8 and have fine connection with my company's Outlook server, but I do note some issues with keeping the config settings up to date.
Does your exchange server require your phone to be encrypted. My Company requires this for the sync to work properly. Not sure why it would be intermittent though.

actually no, though it would make sense if that were an issue, however, as you point out, it would not be intermittent.
The final answer I received from Samsung technical support was that their latest email client does not support "older" version of Exchange and Outlook. We have 2010, which Samsung refers to as outdated.
Curiously, Sprint uses the same version of Outlook.
After switching to an HTC One, I have no problems at all.

So last night I tried doing a reset on my active 2 watch to see if that would help. The Numbersync option in the watch no longer showed it was on so I tried turning it on but I would get an error message saying "Mobile network unavailable". Tested it out by calling myself and sending myself a text from another phone and nothing was received on the watch. So watch only worked independently using it's own phone number.
Here's the weird thing now... this morning I wake up and started receiving calls and text messages and they started showing up on my watch! So I go into the watch menu for numbersync and it looks as if it's not turned on but somehow it's synced with my phone?
So currently it's working as if it's synced. So now I'm wondering if I should even go thru the menu option to enable numbersync even though it's working as if it's enabled?
Edit: watch receives calls and messages but because it's connected via bluetooth to my phone. Once disconnected from bluetooth the watch just works independently. Still getting same error message of "Mobile network unavailable" everytime I go into the watch menu and try to get a sync code.

No fix that I know of. I did several resets and went thru 2 esim changes all at the AT&T store and nothing worked. The watch has no internet connection after this last update. Phone calls work but no internet. Test it by disconnecting Bluetooth and using it standalone. You should be able to get into the Galaxy Store or update Weather and nothing works because there's no mobile data.
I ended up having to file a warranty claim thru Samsung and my watch is in route right now to Samsung.

I have also experienced extremely long wait times for support, and usually just hang up now. I was told AT&T was aware of the problem and say it has to do with an update from Samsung and a new update from Samsung will be needed to solve the problem. I hope we can learn more!

Update:
So apparently my watch is in route back to me. Samsung repair ticket indicates the solution was "REPLACED PBA".
I don't know what PBA stands for. However, I could have sworn it was due to the recent software update since a lot of other people are having the same issue.

I received a call today and learned that AT&T was working on some "profile problems" in their NumberSync program that many are experiencing (such as those in this thread). The person called to verify my login name. Before the call, I did update the Galaxy Wear App (that I was told earlier should solve the problem), but that made no difference. I was also told that I would receive a return call in 24 to 48 hours when they had fixed the problem and they would help me connect to NumberSync. I am glad they escalated my ticket a few days ago; hopefully that means I am in the queue of known people with problems to have the problem fixed (if that is the problem and there is a fix). There must be hundreds or thousands with the same problem for them to give some attention to it????

“PBA” stands for Product Board Assembly.
I’m having the same problem as you. The watch works fine when paired with my phone, but in standalone mode I can’t get any mobile data, and I can’t activate Numbersync.
Do you know if your watch overheated when downloading the update? While the update file was downloading to my watch, it overheated and shut itself off because the file was so large. After I restarted the watch, the update completed and everything was working except mobile data. I’m wondering if this has something to do with it.
Please let us know if everything works after replacing the PBA. I may need to send my watch in to Samsung for a replacement as well.

I can't remember exactly if it overheated or not. I know it did reboot but don't remember if I myself turned it back on or if it rebooted by itself after the update...
I"ll come back and update once I get my watch back and can confirm.

Thanks! Also, what kind of phone are you using? I am using my Galaxy Watch Active 2 paired with an iPhone 11 Pro Max, or setup independently in standalone mode. You can set the Watch Active 2 up in standalone mode by scrolling down on the watch’s initial setup screen and pressing the “?”. Either way, I am unable to receive mobile data after the update.
The reason I ask about the type of phone you have is when I called AT&T support, they said it was impossible to receive mobile data if the Watch Active 2 is paired with an iPhone or setup in standalone mode, but this doesn’t make sense because it was working fine for me before. I’m wondering if the update disables mobile data unless the Watch is paired to an Android phone.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and both my watch and Note 8 were purchased directly with AT&T and have had continued service since day 1.
That doesn't make sense at all actually because if it's an LTE watch and it has it's own line, it's supposed to have all the functions available - and that includes phone calls, texts, and internet (data).

Last Friday I called AT&T about my NumberSync issues after my Active2 watch update. They said they'd call back when they researched it. I received a call this afternoon from AT&T about profile issues due to the new watch software and now my NumberSync issue is resolved. I was able to get my Sync Code and sync up my Galaxy s20 Ultra without any problems. A minute or so after syncing, I received tons of text messages that were sent to my phone from last week before the watch update.

Congratulations and thanks for this helpful information! I have yet to receive a call to finally resolve the issue, and I just tried to get a code and still get the same error message. Perhaps tomorrow I will be fortunate to receive a call too. I will let everyone know. I will also be curious to know if those who sent their watches in for warranty work will have a seamless syncing with their new or refurbished watches. At least I now know where the problem lies and that AT&T has found a solution at least for some! Thanks again! BTW: I was thinking of upgrading to the s20, but did not want to do so if this problem continued..

As of today, August 7, no one has called me back to resolve this issue and numbersync still does not work for me. When trying to call or chat with ATT Support, I am told they have a high call volume. So, I have been promised by tech support that they have a solution and that I would be called within 48 hours and still no call. After trying several times, it appears they have to fix the problem and call you to fix the problem, because I still cannot get a code. I hope we can hear some good news from someone that we can finally get a code without needing a tech support call. I suppose we will get no tech support calls over the weekend.

Call & Text on other devices is missing on my Tab S7+ 5G T-Mobile

Hi
I can't find call and text on other devices on my T-Mobile tab S7+, and phone app missing too.
It was good on my old Tab S6 but can't find anymore on S7....
Thanks
I suspect if you have an S7/S7+ with mobile data, it has its own phone number and what not. As a result, you may not be able to call/text from another device since your device itself has its own number. I may be wrong, but that seems like the logical answer. Have you tried turning mobile data off or somehow disabling it? Maybe take the SIM card out if you can (not sure if it's an ESIM).
If the above statement isn't true, I would say factory reset it if you haven't already. If you still encounter the issue, I'd talk to Samsung/T-Mobile about it. Personally, the ability to call/text from the tablet while my phone is away is a huge selling point for me as I don't have to take out my phone much anymore.
Good luck, and let us know what happens. I'm sure there will be someone else that encounters this issue.
Was your Tab S6 a U.S. carrier version? The U.S. carriers disable not only what you're looking for but the native dialer and MMS as well. I got my Tab S7+ 5G from the EU and it has Call and Text on Other Devices. I'm using it between by Z Fold 2 and Tab S7+. It doesn't affect the Tab S7+'s ability to use it's own phone number; it just adds the option of using either device for calls and MMS.

I might be wrong on this, but the way I understand it is that the feature links the devices via Samsung Cloud. So the only device that needs a number would be the phone. It shouldn't matter whether the other devices have one or not as they should still work independently.
I know this is an old thread, but...
This feature was present on the S6 LTE version, so there should be no reason for it not to be available here. The S7 (non-plus) 5G also has this enabled on T-Mobile, so again - no good reason for the S7+ not to have it.
You are right about the Samsung account - both devices have to be logged into the same account for the feature to work.
The dialer app is present, but not able to be activated.
I have the Samsung tab S7 plus 5G by Verizon. I have a SIM card installed and the representative of Verizon that I talked to told me that it's just for data.
I was very upset. because I encountered the same thing no phone app no text app the Google phone app on Google play is incompatible with my device.
I use Google voice app for Wi-Fi call and texting.

I haven't used Google Voice for a bit but it's it possible to have the calls FROM you to someone else appear to have your phone's number or caller ID?
I fixed this and got it fully working. Here's the thread....
I got Call and Text from other devices working on Tab S7+ 5G (at least on Tmobile)
I got call and text from other devices working on my Tmobile Tab S7+ 5G. It's super easy. All you need to do is install the apk below because apparently, all we were missing was the app. That's literally all I did. WARNING: Just be warned as...
