[ROOT][PIE] Night Light for XZ Premium (and many others) - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hey guys,
Rooted recently, got on Pie and found myself missing the Night Light - such a little thing that makes all the difference at night. Tried redoing the steps I did to enable it on Oreo but failed.
Anyway, long story short, after a few xda threads I installed Pix3lify, which is a hit n miss - and I already had Digital Wellbeing port. So I extracted the apks responsible for night light only and put them in a zip.
The apk had a lot of lines reporting to Ambient display and other functionalities which have been removed - the apk has 2kb and enables night light - just that.
Install: Copy nightLight.apk to system > vendor > overlay (set 644/-rw-r--r-- permissions). Best to use MIXplorer
OR
Flash the zip via TWRP/Magisk Installer (Nightlight_v1)- Thanks to @alagga for the Magisk Module
Since the port is from Pixel, it goes hand in hand with Digital Wellbeing port (magisk module).
Night Light settings in Display > Advanced > Night Light. Quick settings tile present in the dropdown customization area.
Have a good Night(Light)

Thank you very much, it's an excellent job, it works perfectly

Are there any chances to make it work using adb, just like the old Oreo apk? Because I am on stock unrooted

Not that I know of. Tried the old adb line but that won't work. Anyway, if you plan on rooting, make sure you do the DRM backup - totally worth the effort.

I will enjoy stock as much as I feel to, then my plan is to switch to LineageOs or other Rom, with nogapps

it doesn't work for me. I flashed through twrp and I also flashed the digital well-being through magisk.
Edit:you need to install the pixelify module.
Edit2:it crashes system UI with pixelify and it doesn't work just flashing the zip.

it doesn't work for me !

I reinstall and now it works
Thanks ???

I found pixelify a bit buggy for xzp, that's why I took out only the apk for ambient display/night light, modified the lines so it only enables night light. I only use the digital well-being. If the zip doesn't work try manually putting it in overlays and set permissions.
So no pixelify plugin, just that zip (tested on my xzp single sim on android pie).
Tell me how it goes

Flashing the ZIP didn't work for me. Copying the apk manually did though. Thanks!

Zip worked after a Little bit of flashing and copying. Dom anyone else havet worse screen respondnes?
Thank you for your work

@steso90
Thanks for the feedback! I've did the modifications very late at night so I recycled a zip I had in handy. There was a lot of copy/paste of the apk and not so much twrp flashing. Updated description.
And I didn't notice any screen sluggishness. I'll keep an eye out tho
Thanks again!

I can't modify the system partition and I'm running mixplorer with root. That's strange

Followed your instructions everything is working well

Double check the root permissions in magisk root section - perhaps you denied them by mistake. mixplorer has no issues manipulating root files - as long as it has the permission granted
[update]Strange. I can't seem to modify root folder structure - for example, adding a new folder in priv-app does nothing - tried with two file explorers. Best bet is to use a flashable zip for such apps or TWRP's file explorer which has plenty of manipulation options.
Cheers!

Could you do a port for the Ambient display feature, too? Its the only thing I'm missing: "Ambient display: Wake screen when you receive a notification" - Without this feature the notification light hints at the notification, but I have to press a button to see the notification.

In its original form, there were lines calling the ambient display. But it felt buggy and since the screen is LCD, I found it very inconvenient since my goal was the night light. I'll send the original overlay tomorrow.

The original mod for Oreo worked also just installing the apk without root... do I need root for this one to work on Pie?

well, it is flashed, booting up, optimizing 177 apps. the most i have seen before was 48, and the most on a fresh root 22. i am curious. it is sure a very long boot. started up it looks good, root is there, just a few apps are showing, but i am curious about the optimizing a 177 apps on the android starting up screen
My guess is, it optimized every system app as well. Looking in titanium backup at all the background system apps, I'd say it just those. Still curious though the why behind it.
Side note, my flash light doesn't work. Says "flashlight Unavailable while in camera or open in apps" on a fresh boot. I'll try reflashing tomorrow after more field testing.
I use xposed flashlight..
Also, I found some permission errors..
I'll reup a fix or something soon
Also, the reason it being slow...
Did you forget xposed is semi installed?
It's what normally happens when you freshly install Xposed treat optimizes all applications

Ha! My auto correct did the same thing to me in a different thread with "xposed" . xposed being semi installed helped me alot! Darkpokemon works right away and greenify.
Unless I make major releases... I will have zip updates.
Hopefully that'll prevent a lot of people making mistakes. It'll only do changes that are needed.

The reason why I semi installed Xposed is because you have to actually use an old version of FlashFire first and then install an updated version.
This way all you have to do is install the latest Flashfire without having to do any extra steps.

[Custom Rom] Huawei Mate 8 - KangVip Rom - NXT-L29C432B595-V7+V8 [EMUI 8 lite]

-[Custom Rom] Huawei Mate 8 - KangVip Rom
- NXT-L29C432B595-V7 Custom System Update
- EMUI 5.01 - Android 7 -
On TWRP backup basis.
This turns the B582 into a B595.
Developed and tested on this device:
Huawei Mate 8 (NEXT)
Model number: Huawei NXT-L29
Build number: NXT-L29C432B582
- OTA updated.
- Without branding, with root and root access.
- TWRP recovery
Mods:
- Call Recorder
- KangVip Advanced settings
- Autostart administration in the phone manager
- Viper 4 Android FX
- Xposed 89
I couldn't test if this runs on Firmwares other regions.
Quick guide for experienced users:
Please make a backup of your data with Huawei Backup and TWRP.
The Rom will be installed as if you wanted to restore a TWRP backup.
All your apps remain intact.
Conditions required:
- Firmware B582, (data partition)
- TWRP recovery
- root is not necessary,
- OEM and FRP unlocked,
- USB Debugging on.
You are familiar with the matter? Then let's go!
If available, uninstall these apps: SuperSu and Magisk.
A unroot is not necessary. The download is not compressed.
Installation:
Download the directory (2018-01-NXT-L29C432B595-K-ROM-V7). It is a complete TWRP backup folder,
copy it in the TWRP backup directory to the ExtSd and restore.
After rebooting, please go back to TWRP and root with: SuperSU-v2.82-K-Rom-V7. zip
That's all. The installation is complete.
Viper is not been installed with it, this can be found in the
Advanced settings can be made up for.
Xposed is active and stable.
There's no way use other Xposed versions.
Don't change the supersu, it is tuned to the system.
In the Kangvip Advanced settings do not use the Addblocker and "hide Activate NavBar".
Both works only on China Roms.
Hiding the NavBar can be done comfortably with the App "Tiles" from the playstore.
In the K-Advanced Settings /tune cpu, some of the following are available.
Modifications of the computer performance possible. Those who need more power can do so.
Testing out the "Power save" options is useless. Did a lot of it.
The Huawei's own energy saving settings cannot be topped.
The minimally modified stock kernel works as efficiently as possible.
Good luck!
My special thanks go to you: @apat26
Thank you very much:
[KangVIP], Chainfire, Stephen (Stericson) + Jmz Software, Wraithdu, Team Win RecoveryProject,
JRummy and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
The roms I offer are original Huawei firmware.
Only the system was modified by kangvip and me. The kernel is stock.
If you like this work you could give a donation to kangvip.

Please not for me, because I don't take money for it. I created this TWRP backup roms for my use.
I love it when these things work. And it does. Now I'll share it with you.

Thread Update 2018-07-03
Here comes the update from V.7 to V.8 (EMUI 8 lite):
That's for AL-10 only. It won't work on C432.
Whether it goes on other regions I could not test.
It's a TWRP backup. The V.7 is modified so that now the functions of the EMUI 8
are available on the Android 7 file system.
The Mate8_K_ROM_V8.exe is a self-extracting archive.
This results in a TWRP backup: 2018-07-02--M.8.KANG.EMUI.5.to.8.boot.system.
Just like restoring the V.7 as TWRP backup.
If the root is lost during installation, please re-root.
The same applies to xposed. Everything you need is in the download folder.

Remove brithness slider

hi,
I've searched quite a bit on the forum and can't find anything that seems to do it. I know some custom rom have it in their System UI tuner but I prefer running stock.
Basically, I use Lux app for my brightness since I like having different profiles triggered by tasker. hence the brightness slider is redundant for me and takes up space when I never use it.
If anybody has an idea of a substratum theme or something like that that I can use on a rooted stock rom with magisk.
Thanks

Yeah i've seen your aroma but it seems that EdgeSense plus doesn't play well with your aroma.
I think I've read that it's because EdgeSense using magisk plugin replaces the systemui.apk at EACH boot to make sure the setting stick.
So I guess any mods won't be kept unless edgeSense changes their method?
EDIT: I think it's for the same reason 3minit wasn't working and is related to the answer you gave me on the other post. Is there a way to have your aroma as a module also or do you suggest me to change the way I manage my phone and doing it without modules?

Sounds like it. Poor way to do it in my opinion.

Fonts

Here are a few font modules if you're interested. Most came from this thread. Go there to see examples:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/themes/fonts-flashable-zips-t3219827
If you find or have any other fonts just replace the ones from one of these modules (vrtheme/system/fonts).
Thanks been waiting for something like this.
Works good except the clock on the lockscreen is kinda weird instead of it being like 1:05 it'll be 1X05

Just downloaded and flashed Google Sans. Works fine on my phone.
Edit: make sure you have the default font chosen in settings/styles.

Ah gotcha
Thanks for the Google Sans, I had the same problem as @thatsupnow with that font but I used the one on the magisk repo and even contacted the dev.
The one on this thread works great on my normal 3a (sargo)
@Tulsadiver Just asked this in your accents tgread but forgot I also use this mod. Anyway to make it work without rooting. As I said in other thread this mod and the accents are the only reasons I load magisk so if i could like adb push them or something then I woudnt have to reload magisk ever month after updates and could likely even take direct ota updates.

This takes root and magisk is the only way
As stated above i have added my own font and everything is working great... Is there a way to change the middle name so it will include the funny name.
Maybe Tulsadivers Mods for Pixel (Rosemary) in my case. Not sure what file to edit to change the name or if it's not that easy.
Great work now using both mods as daily driver requirement.

[MAGISK][MIUI 11]AOD Customization

After some testing, here are some beautiful always on display alternatives! I hope you like it.
*FIRST OF ALL*: I am not responsible for bricked devices. Proceed at your own risk!
Here is how it's done:
Just flash the attached ZIP file over Magisk Manager App!
You're good to go!
Tested on MiuiMiX MIUI 11

Alternative method, if the one above fails:

I had the same crashes when clicking to Settings, AOD, Style but I resolved (and verifief the procedure several times going back and forth between stock and custom MiuiAod.apk)
So the following procedure works for me (Mi 9T, QFJEUXM 11.0.4.0):
- do not use Magisk module for installation but do it manually (uninstall AOD Magisk module if you have it and reboot)
- in Settings, Always on display, & Lock screen, disable Always on display
- using root manager (like MiXPlorer), go to /system/priv-app/MiuiAod and overwrite the stock MiuiAod.apk (23,6 MB for me) put this custom MiuiAod (20,54 MB - listing sizes here to easier distinguish stock from custom)
- reboot and go to Settings, Apps, Manage apps, by three dot menu top right enable Show all apps
- navigate down to Always on mode (this is the name for the custom MiuiAod) and take Clear data, Clear all data, confirm
- go back in Settings to Always on display, & Lock screen, enable Always on display, open Style and select and apply from this custom, extended set of styles, apply and enjoy
---
Installation via Magisk module seem to be working only on some (older) MIUI 11 ROMs (although Magisk module installs with no errors and by symlinking overwrites the stock MiuiAod.apk with custom one), but the manual procedure as above (hard overwriting, not symlinking) should (hopefully) work for all MIUI 11/Android 10

Did you follow my steps?
Try renaming the MiuiAod.apk to MiuiAod.apk.bak and repeat the process!
the instructions are correct.
you only have to set the rights in the Root Explorer. Mark the AOD.apk file there, then select Properties and then select Permission in the next window and set the rights as for the original file. Then restart. Then it goes.

Permissions must be 644
Changes can be done also through TWRP - if something goes wrong (bootloop) it can be reverted through TWRP to the original MiuiAod.apk
Tested on Mi 9T, QFJEUXM and it works. David_#27, thanks for the additional AOD styles

Wanted to send you first as PM (but your PMs are blocked)
Here comes a manual procedure to install your custom MiuiAod styles as Magisk module
HowTo:
1) In /system/priv-app/MiuiAod remove the custom MiuiAod.apk and rename (the original) MiuiAod.bak to MiuiAod.apk
This step is optional and applicable only if you already have this custom MiuiAod installed as per your OP instructions
2) Download MiuiAod.zip from:
https://mega.nz/file/ppcFUAqC#oXOpvtS4vicUhV_ECK7hJkb6HOhhR8Vhqnw24X3e6Mc
and unzip to obtain folder MiuiAod, containing a file BuildProp and a subfolder system
Copy that MiuiAod folder (as is) to /data/adb/modules - see the screenshot.
Reboot and find in Magisk Manager, Modules tab, a new MiuiAod module installed
You can disable/enable (and remove) that MiuiAod module through Magisk Manager
---
However, this is still not a valid Magisk module zip file that can be really flashed through the Magisk Manager - instead, it requires manual unzipping and copying to /data/adb/modules as described
If you like, I will try to make it to the proper, flashable Magisk module zip file that you could submit to Magisk repo ?

MiuiMix fits very well! I'm sure you'll like it.
All you have to do is get a Migrate App backup.

WOW! Thanks pal! I really appreciate your interest!
I first chose this method as the magisk module installation didn't work... So, yes, it would be nice to make one working!

For the beginning, with the instructions as above, you can already have it showing in Magisk Manager as a module
I'm playing, plenty of time this spring, and learning how to make modules?
