Automatic turn off cellular radio? - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

The building where I work does not like my cell signal, for some reason. It reads 5 bars, but I get no calls and it says "searching." I have wi-fi calling, which works fine. If I leave the cell radio on, it eats through my battery in half a day even if I never turn on the screen. My workaround so far is to turn on airplane mode when I get to work, then reactivate my wi-fi radio and Bluetooth. It works, but it's clunky and I frequently forget to turn airplane mode back off again when I get in the car to go home if I'm thinking about other things.
Does anyone know if there is a way I could set up a script of some kind that can just deactivate the cell radio when connected to a specific network, and reactivate it when it disconnects? Not just mobile data, but the actual cell radio.
I've downloaded Tasker, Automate, and IFTTT, but so far, I just can't figure them out well enough to get any of them to do what I need them to do. If someone could walk me through how to use them effectively to accomplish this, I'm more than willing to do the work end myself.

Via Tasker app, you can make a profile to do the following actions:
1. Autoinput action to simulate tapping your Airplane Mode setting to ON.
2. Activate WiFi On to connect to your work WiFi.
3. Activate Bluetooth On to connect to any Bluetooth you want.
You can activate all the 3 actions above by pressing a created shortcut widget on your phone home screen when you reached your workplace.
Make another Tasker profile to do the following actions:
1. Automatically turn off WiFi when disconnected for 1 minute. This means when you leave your workplace, your WiFi will be disconnected then after 1 minute your WiFi setting will turn off.
2. Automatically turn off Bluetooth when disconnected for 1 minute (same as above).
3. Autoinput action to simulate tapping your Airplane Mode setting to Off.
The 3 actions above are automatically activated when you leave your workplace.
All the actions above can be activated without rooting your phone

disabling cell mode? without cutting out wifi/3g?

there are times i only really want to use the desire for net access etc and would like to cut off the phone ability to save power. airplane mode would do but it cuts off 3g/wifi as well - and bluetooth.
is there a way to disable phone mode and leave the rest on?
Try *#*#4632#*#* and then phone information scroll down and click radio off.
Sent from my HTC Desire
Its 4636
is there a widget that can do this for ya?
Best way to remember that is *#*$info#*#*
Turning off the radio will disable 3g. You may aswell use airplane mode, its easier.
Edit. You can't cut the phone ability and keep 3g. But you can wifi.
Airplane Mode Wi-Fi is a widget which will allow you to reenable WiFi and Bluetooth whilst in Airplane mode, leaving the cellular radio off.
As has been already mentioned, you can't switch off the phone radio and have 3G, because they are one and the same.

Dave
My bad, was writing from my Desire and got it mixed up

Disable Cellular Radio without turning 'Airplane Mode" On.

Hey,
I am going to the Israel for vacation, and I have IGo and maps downloaded to my phone. However, I tried using GPS in Airplane mode (to see if it works, because I expect to turn my phone onto airplane mode while in Israel), it turns on, but it does not detect any satellites (I used the "GPS Test" app to test it). So, I 'Googled' around for some options, and found that it will not connect to satellites while in "Airplane Mode".
What I would like to do is to try and shut off the cellular Radio (while keeping the 'Airplane Mode' turned off) and try connecting to GPS then, to see if it works. I need a way to turn off the Cellular radio without turning on 'Airplane Mode', or, if you have any other ideas, please do tell, I am looking for anyway to use my GPS without it costing me any money (by using data, or cellular service in Israel).
Thank you very much.

Isn't there a setting in wireless and networks that lets you turn that off? Or maybe you can try juice defender. That has a ton of options and many have to do with turning off wireless.
When you hold down the power button like you are shutting off the phone there is an option Data Network Mode... click it and turn it off and it will shut off your data. i do it a lot to save battery

Now how about an option to turn off cell signal without turning off data?
Not sure there is an option, at least within the phone's menu, I'm sure there is an app of some sort to offer this feature.
I've tried using Extended Controls to toggle the cellular radio at no avail. It seems like airplane mode kills all onboard radios, and I'm starting to think it's not possble to what you're looking in EC05.

how do you suppose using data without a cell signal???
And, Does anyone know how much data is used to get the general location used to start GPS? if it doesn't use data then what does it use to get the general location? (i know it uses the towers, but how does it transmit the location to your phone?)
You can do this with Tasker.

Hey,
I went on my trip and used GPS without getting charged, here is what I did:
being that GPS wont work with 'Airplane mode' turned On, I had to keep it 'Off', so in order not to get charged; I turned off Data connection (by holding down on the power button and choosing the option from the list) to make sure the didn't charge me for Data. I was not worried about incoming calls because you are only charged if you answer. the only issue was that they charge $0.05 for each incoming text, so before I went on the trip I called Sprint and told them to disable text for the duration of my trip.
it was a great success, GPS worked great and i wasn't charged a penny.
Thanks for the update, I was curious if our phone could be used that way.

You can disable just the cellular radio using Tasker... this will still allow you to use wifi, bluetooth, gps, etc...

[Q] bluetooth and wifi power saving

Hello all,
I am wondering if anybody has any ideas on how i can set my bluetooth and wireless to automatically turn off if they haven't connected to anything in 15 or 30 minutes.
The reason i want to do this is after i leave my home i don't need my wifi until i get back home and after i leave my car i don't need my bluetooth until i get back in it at the end of the day, sometimes i forget these things are still on and they slowly eat at the battery...
I've got the Samsung S3 (AT&T) (i747m Canadian version) although its been rooted and installed CM 10.1 nightly build March 06 there must be some way to do this.
thanks for any ideas!
Alex
Not sure about Bluetooth but you can adjust WiFi settings in the WiFi menu within the advance settings

For the wifi, try out this app... it will just blip the wifi every time you unlock the screen, and if a network is available it will leave it on, if not it will turn it off. When the screen is off, it will turn off wifi, depending on your traffic settings. Blipping the wifi on uses very little power, so it is very efficient to do it this way. LOVE this app.

As for the bluetooth, only way I know of is using Tasker... there is a profile available in the tasker wiki that will turn off unused bluetooth after a few minutes.
Also, wrong section...

tectiles you can do this too (either enable/disable or run that app)
Using NFC on the GS3 I came across this YouTube video on using NFC tags with the GS3. With with an app like NFC Task Launcher you can configure your phone to turn on/off wifi, bluetooth, or just about any task or series of tasks you'd like.

[Q] Smart Settings Wifi Question / Issue

If you have wifi set to off when you're either away from home or at home, should the wifi notification icon on the slide down notification menu thing be greyed out (not blue)? When i manually turn off wifi, and enter my home location (to which i have my smart setting to turn on wifi) wifi turns on automatically and connects to my router.
When I leave my home area (i have the smart setting to turn off wifi) it does not appear to turn off. Has anyone ran into this issue?
I guess I might be the only one with this issue. Strange.
Same here, so far the only issue I'm having with the G4, but still annoying
Same here, smart settings is not working properly
It requires data to work.
What data? Home location is set, data is always active..
Llama does a much better job and it's free on the Play Store.
Did you set your GPS to high accuracy and set up your home location. Mine works fine

Tasker Airplane Mode Toggle

I am trying to set up a Tasker profile that when connected to my home wifi, first enables airplane mode, then switches wifi and Bluetooth back on. The issue is that Tasker says it needs me to input an ADB command for this to work every time my phone is rebooted. In trying to avoid having to do that, but not sure if there's any other option.
The reason I want to do this, maybe there's another solution, when I'm home the cell signal is poor (Sprint), initially my phone would always have wifi calling available, but lately it refuses to use wifi calling if there's even the slightest bit of cell signal available. What that leads to is pretty much no actual phone service at all, since the cell signals so poor I can't make or receive calls. At the moment I have to manually enable airplane mode, wifi and Bluetooth and remember to disable airplane mode when I leave the house. While the only takes a few seconds, is easily forgettable. So, hoping to automate the process.
Thanks.
Maybe it's easier using bixby routines
Couldn't find anything in Bixby, but IFTTT might work, going to try later.

i mean something like this
https://drive.google.com/open?id=118bSmpUF46ONpE20Qa3wuNffkU_LFCtM
just to test i've started the routine with a button, and then:
switch to airplane mode
switch wifi on
Might be stupid questions, but where in Bixby do you assign a routine to a button? All I can find are by voice, additionally, when I go to commands, there's no open for airplane mode or wifi, searching brings no results.
Never used Bixby, so trying to figure things out. Thanks for the help.
