Truning on the GPS without Google location services - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

On my phone, when I tap the icon to turn on the GPS, there is a pop up messages that reads:
Turn on Location
Location may use sources like GPS, Wi-Fi mobile networks, and sensors...Is there a way to enable the GPS without having to share location data with Google? Is there a way to use GPS within a Google app, say Maps, without having to share location data with Google?

Buggy GPS with Google maps/navigation on GNex Yakju 4.2

Hi.
Since 4.2, google navigation is unable to locate me on the map. As a result it just doesn't work and stay on "locating your position" or something like that.
If I use other gps based app (such ingress, car home ultra, etc....) those app have no problem to find me accurately.
I've tried clearing cache and data in the app section of control pannel. Also in the recovery mode but no success.
I use the latest map app version
I use stock rom for yakju 4.2 on a galaxy nexus
------------------EDIT WITH THE SOLUTION-------------------
Thanx to @Enforceman here's the solution:
-on main page press the search bar at the top (box written Google following of a mike symbol). This will open Google Now
-then Google now will tell you that location service is currently Off.
-You will have a link to a setting menu to turn it on
-Go in that menu and turn it on.
THERE IS IT. YOU SHOULD NOW HAVE A WORKING GPS with google apps.
What Google should have done at first is that after the OTA at reboot they should have put a windows asking if we would like to turn on that feature. After a clean wipe it will work because they explain google now. But not after the ota......anyway it is done, it work, that's all that matter for me

Anyone having this issue?
I've aslo noticed that the camera app can't get geo-location infos.....but Camera FX does.
So it is really something about the google apps! Any non-google apps work perfectly with GPS and the GPS test app work fine.

I had this issue too. Other GPS apps would locate me but Google maps would not after 4.2 OTA even though location services were turned on in settings. Apparently, that setting is for non-google apps and there is another setting switch somewhere for google apps.
I found a fix after I noticed that my Google Now cards were not working. I clicked on the top search bar which brings up search and google Now. At the bottom there was a message that said my location access was turned off. I clicked on that and then clicked on the settings link that it had.
It brought me to a new white setting screen with a switch for location access which i switched to ON. It seems that this specific switch has to be on for google apps to access the GPS.
Works now. Hope that helps

google navigation without enabling location services

I have a problem with the google location services wanting to know my every whereabout, what I am doing on the phone, and not to mention the drain on the battery. So I disabled the google location services on the phone... Problem is now google nav doesn't work even though GPS is turned on and any other nav prog I download works properly.
Is there a way to use google nav without enabling the google location crap?

[Q] Can't turn Google Now on with TabPRO 10.1 WiFi

Hello, not sure if any of you experienced the same problem. I can't seem to turn Google Now on. It either says 'Network Error' or 'Google Now requires location services which are not available'.
Any ideas? Help appreciated.
Do you have that turned on under settings - connection - location ?
Followed this trick found in googlegroups and it worked!
Switch the phone to Airplane mode (re-enable wi-fi, it's needed later on)
Go to Location settings and switch to GPS only mode
Download Fake GPS (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lexa.fakegps)
Set the location to London (I suppose any place with access to Google Now will do but, I tested this on London)
Open search settings and sign out
Disable Google Play Services (if it asks to uninstall updates, do so)
Open search settings and select your account
Google Now terms and conditions should come up
Select the option "Yes, I'm in" (Or just use voice search, say "Remind me to buy milk" and click "Opt in to Google Now").
Re-enable Google Play Services, disable Airplane Mode, change location settings to your hearts desire and stop fake GPS.
Enjoy Google Now.

Disabling google play services running in background through privacy guard

Hello. With the latest update of google play services, everytime that I disable GPS through the quick toggle, I get a message from google play services: ''No location access... etc etc''. Very annoying because if I do that while playing Ingress, the app detect that the gps is off and close itself. The only way I managed to make this message disappear is to disable ''run in background'' for google play services through privacy guard. This could lead to missing whatsapp/telegram/other apps notifications? Or could make the batterylife worse?
I'm also having this problem. Its super annoying for the same reason. I only turn on location services when I need them. I understand what I'm doing and don't need to be pestered. is there a way to turn off this message?

Location Services not giving apps location without High Accuracy

Anyone know how to loosen up the access to location services per app or something?
I've had this issue when running Oreo on the S8 as well, so I think it's Oreo related. Really annoying that I'm having to turn on High Accuracy a lot more just to get location for several apps.
So basically, I'm getting no location in say, the Starbucks app, and it asks me to turn on location services (I'm already on Battery Saving, and allowing apps to access location data), and I have to do so to get any location to the app.
