Bootlooping; flashing OTA update not helping, bootloader locked. Can ADB unlock it? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I converted my girlfriend (a long-term iPhone user) over to Android, and we got a shared plan with Google Fi. She installed the December OTA update, and today her Pixel XL began bootlooping.
She is running completely stock Android -- I haven't touched it in any way, and she doesn't know anything technical about the phone (so no funny business on her end). The phone was constantly bootlooping, sometimes with artifacts appearing on the screen (which looked like the "static" you'd see on a TV screen not set to any channel). These artifacts wouldn't happen every time, but about 25% of the time they'd appear.
I can boot into the bootloader with zero issues. Fastboot recognizes the device just fine. At first, I couldn't boot into recovery -- it would crash and start bootlooping before loading the recovery screen. Finally, though, I managed to get into recovery and did a standard factory data reset. No dice. I went into recovery again and flashed the OTA image via adb. This solved the "crashing before getting into recovery" issue, but not the general bootloop issue. I can't downgrade the OTA now, either.
My next option is to flash a factory image. However, as I mentioned, the phone is completely stock -- with a locked bootloader. I can't get into the device at all due to the constant bootloops. Is there ANY way to allow OEM unlocking through ADB/Fastboot? I'm running out of options here.
The good news is that Google Fi now supports iPhones, and she still has her old iPhone. I don't know if her Pixel XL is under warranty, though, so I don't know if they can RMA her a new one. Any help?

Update: She talked to Google Fi support (and by "she," I mean her calling me over to explain the technical stuff to the support rep), and they're going to RMA her a new one. Which sucks, but at least she has her iPhone until then. For anyone coming from the future, this thread matched my problem exactly, but ultimately I wasn't able to fix it. Even so, it might come in handy if this ever pops up on a Google search somehow.
Moral of the story: Leave your bootloader unlocked unless you absolutely need it locked. And even then, people were reporting that their phones got bricked.

[SOLVED] Completely stock GSM Galaxy Nexus -- 4.0.4 update stuck at Google screen

Update (5/2/2012):
I think I've isolated the issue as a broken recovery image. It appears that some of us received a broken 4.0.2 OTA and are now suffering for it.
This issue can be completely fixed by manually installing the 4.0.4 update. For reasons stated in my post below (message #9 in this thread), I do not think this issue can be fixed with an OTA update, so don't wait for Google to fix this. Fix it yourself or send it back for a refund.
----
Title says it all.
I have a completely stock GSM Nexus running 4.0.2, YAKJU build. Several times, I have received the notification that the 4.0.4 OTA update is available. Each time when I try to take the update, the phone reboots and gets stuck at the "Google" screen indefinitely.
At this point, the only way to shut the phone off is to remove the battery.
Has anyone else had this problem? I can't believe Google is unable to deliver a working update to a stock phone, especially after the months of delay this has been. (My phone is nearly unusable on 4.0.2 due to the keyboard lag, random reboots and other issues.)
I really don't want to mess with the bootloader due to warranty issues.
Same thing is happening here. Completely stock on 4.02, receive notification for 4.04, downloads, reboots to install, doesn't get past "Google". Not sure what's going on there...
Same here, tried twice now. Left it for about an hour and it went through a stage of the back of the phone getting warm (antenna location, I believe... at the top by the camera) then cooled down later. I thought maybe it was downloading the update? Not sure if it normally downloads before or after the reboot.
Additional info:
Mine's wasn't originally yakju, but I flashed to yakju 4.0.1 from yakjuux (or whatever) when I got it months ago, and was able to get the 4.0.2 update OTA just fine.
Mine was yakju out of the box, so I don't think it's a flashing issue.
Yep, mine too. YAKJU out of the box. I haven't done anything to mod this phone.
I'm going to try to manually update it in the next day or two and share results
No factory reset either
Huh. I thought maybe doing a factory reset from the Settings menu would help. In fact, I can't do that either!
After clicking through all of the confirmation dialogs, the phone reboots and.... get stuck at the Google screen. I have to pull the battery out, just as when applying the 4.0.4 update. Luckily the phone will start up again, but the wipe never happened.
It looks like there's a problem with some Galaxy Nexuses being able to go into recovery, perhaps?
Hi All
I got the exact same problem. Out-of-the-box, no mods, no root, 4.0.2. Got the OTA to 4.0.4 the third time this morning. Still can't pass the "Google" screen.
Solved -- sort of.
Hey all,
I spent some time investigating this issue. Here's what I've determined: for those of us affected with this problem, it appears that we somehow received a botched installation of 4.0.2 (the version we're running currently). What's the botch? Our phones don't have a working recovery image.
You can test this by trying to enter recovery. Turn off your phone. Then, simultaneously press and hold volume-UP, volume-DOWN, and POWER until a screen with an Android on his back appears. This is the fastboot screen. From here, you can choose 'Recovery'. If your phone is like mine, any attempt to go to Recovery will just put you in the dreaded Google logo loop.
So, what's the solution? I'm afraid the only way to resolve this yourself is to unlock the bootloader and do a complete install of the 4.0.4 image yourself. One step of that process is to flash an updated recovery image; this will cure the issue. Fortunately, on the Galaxy Nexus, you can easily re-lock the bootloader with a single command. I have done all of this and can confirm that it works.
If you're not comfortable unlocking the bootloader, the only other way to fix this is to send it back to the vendor. I have a strong suspicion that phones affected by this bug are unable to receive any further OTAs at all. This means Google can't fix your phone by pushing out a different OTA.
Final warning: until this is fixed, you can't do a factory reset, either -- that process will fail because it, too, uses the recovery. So don't plan on selling your phone on eBay until you get this fixed.
Your research is much appreciated modenastradale. It seems this is a fairly big **** up on Google's part. But I guess these things happen. I don't have any particular problems with unlocking the bootloader, I just didn't feel like wiping the phone right now and having to reinstall and set everything back up again which is why I've remained stock this whole time.
Unlike previous phones, this one has felt great out of the box, so I've never had the need to root it to get more performance out of it.
I guess this will be the project for the weekend. Yay!
Looks like a good opportunity for me to switch to the US version (takju).. even though it's 99.9% the same right now. Just in case they give us a better radio for the region.
Idea:
What if I flash the recovery only? (like step D.12 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895)
I already have an unlocked bootloader, so it looks like I wouldn't need to wipe the system to unlock it. I guess I would get the 4.0.2 full image and flash that recovery (not the 4.0.4), though I'm not sure it would made a difference anyway.
I might try it out, but still interested in maybe switching to Takju anyway. I thought about anything that I'd lose by wiping, and since almost everything is on google's cloud (gmail, google music, coctacts, pics on google+, etc) it's not a big deal to wipe.
Fixed
The method I suggested in the last post worked!
You need to be able to flash a recovery image though, which I think would mean you need an unlocked bootloader? The benefit of doing this over just flashing the complete 4.0.4 image is that you don't need to wipe the phone (assuming you already were unlocked)
In more detail, here are the steps I took.
- Preparation (I already had this done) - have Samsung drivers installed on your PC, ADB, fastboot, etc. - check other threads for how to, such as: LINK
- Follow this post's how-to for flashing the recovery image - the poster also has the stock 4.0.2 link, which I can't find on google's site anymore: LINK
- The only command I ended up using is
Code:
fastboot-windows.exe flash recovery F:\recovery.img
Where F:\ was the location I extracted the image file to.
- Restart via:
Code:
fastboot reboot
- When it restarted, it gave me the OTA notification and was able to install fine.
I don't know if the OTA notification would automatically show for everyone, if not you can try to check for updates in the settings or try some of the step on the thread: LINK
related issue
I found and issue on code.google.com that seems related to this.
I'm linking them in the hopes of getting some official response about this.
Just search for number 29954 on code.google.com as I'm not allowed to post links here yet.
This worked perfectly for me. Glad to have that done with. Didn't lose any data at all.
I have this issue also. Stock Galaxy Nexus from the Spain, no mods, not unlocked.
Its necesary unlock bootloader to flash a recovery image
I can reboot my Nexus after going through the install of 4.0.4 (my phone don't get stuck at the Google logo), but the version stays at 4.0.2 however.
Do I also have to unlock bootloader and flash 4.0.4 etc. or is there another way to work around the update problem?
Stock and unlocked Galaxy Nexus bought (and in use) in The Netherlands.
Thanks!

Bootloop on Rooted Pure Nexus ROM

@Omnitrix4m3
Call Project Fi. Talk to them. They'll probably send a replacement (no waiting for repair). You can always talk to them and then after hearing what they say decide no.

Wow. I spend so much time on Reddit ignoring these threads until today.
Allow me to set the scene, I'm a student who loves to tinker and modify, and the idea of unlocking my bootloader, rooting, and running custom ROMs on my device seemed fascinating at first. Becoming an avid user of this after fashing my device countless times and performing backups, I began to find a system thatworked for my device and was stable. Having not flashed anything for months on my phone, I had no reason to take a backup of my phone. Until today.
Realizing I had too many garbage apps on my phone, too much RAM being used, and my SOT being garbage, I decided on deleting some of the 222 apps I keep for fun on my phone. With that, I used my phone's built in free space client which cleared unused apps and saved photos. However, it also included my downloads folder where I consciously chose my downloaded ROM and vendor images to save space (Remember, my build was stable at the time and I wanted space to do an eventual nandroid backup). After deleting those flashable files I continued about my day as usual. However, until the end of the day I realized my phone was logged out of my school's wifi, so I logged back in. My phone then began to lag, and a combination of the phone and me using the powerbutton allowed it to reboot. Then it began to bootloop. Normally as a flasher bootloops are easy to get rid of, or may ensue for minutes after flashing a file, however this was consistent and I had no ROM to flash over it, muchless boot to TWRP to do it. I couldn't boot to anything but the system's own recovery mode. I gave the phone some time alone and tried to research how to fix the problem without opening the phone up and soldering. When I attempted again to boot the phone I realized I got boot into TWRP. However, that was shortlived as, when I tried to make a backup the phone froze and rebooted. Going home with my head in my hands, I later tried booting an hour and a half later making my whole boot animation until the very end when the name is shown and the lock screen should load, that's when it began to loop again. I spoke to my father who bought the phone through Project Fi, who recommended me to talk to support. However I just realized: A) If I send it, I lose my data or have it tampered with in a repair. B) If they attempt to boot it, they will see its void of warranty due to the bootloader unlock and rooting and might not honor my warranty (although people have done it after warranty, NOT BECAUSE IT WAS DEVOID BY UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER/ROOTING). C) I bought it on sale for like $250 for 32 GB so money I get back won't cover a Pixel or another phone I can tinker with again with AOSP roms (and I'm not trying to wait two years for Android O, the only other phone I would consider is a OnePlus 5 which launches in the summer and would be around $450).
What would you guys suggest I do?
1. DIY solder and fix
2. Continue tampering to find way to copy off data (I need suggestions)
3. Send it back completely wiped or in way it is to fix
4. Have it replaced with money (and then what phone would I buy?)
And finally do I go to Google Store, Project Fi, or LG to have this issue resolved while ommitting the fact it has been modified?
P.S.: While writing this, this actually booted up for 5 minutes and worked until it crashed and entered the loop again.

If you can get into recovery again, do a factory reset and see if it'll boot. If so, take the opportunity to back up your files then flash the factory images to go back to stock so you can get a replacement. Good luck

Pixel XL - HUGE data usage NOT rooted

Hey all,
I've done heaps of searching here and the wider web but only found reference to rooted phones failing to take updates.
I can't get a screenshot on here right now as I'm at work so no wifibut:
- Android OS _______________3.04GB :silly:
- Chrome__________________434MB
- Google Services ___________24.13MB
- etc
When I read about the failed update I checked in there and sure enough I have a 2017-5 patches system update sitting there failed, when I retry it it will download successfully then do step 1/2 of the installation then fail.
So it seems this would be the problem but the phone is definitely NOT rooted, any ideas??
thanks
You speak in codes, man. Could you explain your issue simpler? Right now I see an Android OS usage of 3.04GB. That seems abnormally large times 10. No one should have that, really. So it seems like your Android OS process downloaded multiple copies of system updates in error. Is that your problem?
Your post is still largely incomprehensible, so I won't make a final conclusion.
These are just suggestions:
1) If your phone is downloading system updates over and over, just damn update so it stops, or factory reset your phone.
2) If this is some kind of a rogue app, you are literally funked. Good luck trouble shooting it.
In any case, GL!
Yes, android OS used 3.04GB in ~5 days, my best guess is it was due to repeated attempts at '2017-5 patches system update'
Sorry, when I did a search I got heap of references to rooted phones having this issue so I guess I just talked from that reference point? It seemed to be a known issue but for rooted phones.
I just wanted to be clear that my issue matched those symptoms but was not rooted.
1) I've tried a manual update (many times) fails at the same point, I assume this is what is causing the data usage, as mentioned above.
2) Pretty sure it's not a rogue app
I'll try a factory reset, it's only a couple of weeks old (warranty replacement) so I hadn't really thought to reset straight away.
The phone doesn't necessarily need to be rooted to fail the update. A previously rooted phone can also fail to update as described, but typically that would mean an unlocked bootloader. I would have figured that the phone would have been reimaged and the bootloader locked on a refurbished phone, but maybe that doesn't happen. Is the bootloader unlocked? If so you could image the phone yourself to see if that works to fix it. If the bootloader is locked and a reset doesn't work, then I figure you might need to contact support about getting a different phone.
https://developers.google.com/android/images
I think you've gotten good information from everyone so far but just to add some clarity.
I had this exact same issue and was not rooted but did have an unlocked bootloader.
A factory reset did not resolve it. At the time I had issues, there were questions about rooting the stock images so I flashed PureNexus and have never looked back or had the issue again. Also, Verizon did add data to my plan and credit my account for the additional charges to negate the cost. Hope this helps!
It sounds like an issue with your phone that Pixel support might be able to help you with but they will certainly suggest a factory reset so you should do that first. Since you have a refurbished phone you don't know how the previous owner was using it and its possible a modification he made is still on the phone and causing you problems. If the failed system update isn't actually causing the excess data usage it could also be a carrier issue. I know some Project Fi users had that problem and it was related to the service. Google gave people credit for the excess data. You could also have an app that is interfering with the update so a factory reset should definitely be your first step and I'm guessing it's fairly likely to fix your problem.

PSA: Bricking my phone with Fortnite(good educational story and cry for help)

So yesterday, the beta for Fortnite on android came out and I obviously signed up immediately. I selected my device, signed up, and downloaded the installer which would not open. I did not do any research, but assumed that the problem had to do with xposed. I disabled xposed and sure enough, the installer opened, but now it said that my device was not compatible. After some research, i saw that the beta was only going to be for samsung devices for about 30 days so, naturally, i tried to figure out a way to circumvent this restriction. I thought back to my early android days and my spoofing of devices with build.prop and decided to replace some of the entries such as "ro.build.vendor", "ro.build.model", etc. with those from the Galaxy S9. After a quick reboot, it actually worked to my surprise. I was clearly excited at this point and spent about 45 minutes on mobile data downloading Fortnite and then downloading the game files. Finally, the game was downloaded, i was signed into my account, and I was waiting to join a Lobby. After entering a lobby and dropping out of the bus, I was descending towards tomato town to test out my favorite game on my favorite device when suddenly the loading screen came back up(this is where my luck took a turn for the worst). I was returned to the main menu and given a message along the lines of "Fortnite cannot be played on devices that do not pass safetynet, have an unlocked bootloader, or are rooted... Attempting to bypass this check may result in permanent account ban" At this point I began to get annoyed and figure that since I had come all this way I would just keep going. I went and turned on magisk hide from the magisk manager and set it to hide xposed. I then used the option to reinstall magisk under a different package name. I continued to enable exposed again and enable x privacy(I was planning on attempting to do exactly what i had been warned against by Fortnite). I then rebooted and... well, didn't reboot. I got stuck on the green RAZER circle for a bit then the screen just went black. After a few reboots i decided to restore my build.prop through TWRP. This didn't help at all so I decided to clear the cache and dalvik(this didnt work). At this point i decided to back up my photos and the Fortnite apk to my sd card and do a reset through TWRP. The reset did nothing so i figured I would try installing a custom ROM. I downloaded and installed resurrection remix. On the first boot i was greeted with the storage decryption prompt. I entered my password and it said that it was successfully decrypted but was corrupt and i had to factory reset. I pressed the button and the device went to the RAZER logo then turned off. I tried another boot tand the same thing happened so I went to TWRP manually and did yet another reset..... it failed. This is where i panicked. I went through twrp and did a bunch of **** like try to fix contexts and repair data until finally something succeeded and I was able to wipe data. From there I again booted into resurrection remix where it just hung on the boot gif. I plugged the phone into my pc and ran "adb logcat" and it said something about missing files in vendor. I then remembered that I had the RAZER factory images downloaded. I tried the flashall.bat and that just hung on the first command that was only supposed to push 44kb. I knew I had severely fluckled up at this point so seing as there was nothing else to lose I went back into twrp and tried to flash Resurrection again. After that succeeded and i pressed reboot on TWRP I was warned that no system image was installed. Remembering about the vendor thing from before, I pulled the stock vendor image and installed it through TWRP. I was going to flash all the images manually. I was unaware that flashing to vendor would remove TWRP so afte ra unwanted reboot, TWRP was gone for good. Since then, I have tried numerous things in download mode and am always met with messages such as "write failed {no error}", "a/b permissions not supported", "bootloader update required", and many moooore.
At this point I feel that all hope is lost but I feel that I have learned a valuable lesson and can be used as a perfect example of why you should think before you act. I would like to still ask for help from peers who are most likely infinitely more knowledgeable than I am. If you feel that you can help contribute to saving my baby(RAZER phone) in any way or you feel that this helped you in some way, don't hesitate to reply to this thread.
Thank you all for reading to this point and thank you in advance for any insight you have to offer.
Firstly, may I empathize with your pain, and I do need to say..."whooops". Maybe this can only be repaired from a RMA to Razer themselves. I'm not someone who roots his Android devices as I prefer them "as is" but I am a major Linux user and faff with those OSes till I break them. maybe contact Razer with the issue, maybe they can help. And again.....you have my sympathys.
Yeah, I'm going to wait a few days and see if either I can figure anything out or someone else can help me, but after that I will probably contact them. I just hope this doesn't end up being an expensive repair if it comes to sending an RMA. Thanks for your sympathy btw ???
I hate to say this, but today I finally got Fortnite installed and ready for use, totally officially, from epic games, and I'm now awaiting my email with my login access...yes, you may kick me, I will accept a virtual kick.
See, this hurts, it really does. I’m not going to virtually kick you though. I like to be kept in the loop on developments like this. ?
Just to make sure...did you try installing the stock image?
Why don't you just flash a fastboot image from MR1?
https://s3.amazonaws.com/cheryl-factory-images/cheryl-o-global-5038.zip
Yes I tried. That was the first thing I did when things started going south for the winter but it did not do anything. It kept giving the errors that i spoke of such as "unknown command" or "failed(no error)".
So without coming here first. I got my Fortnite invite, went through the install, jumped out of the bus and ...... then received the, you can't be rooted error message. #EPICfail
I haven't done anything else yet except close Fortnite. I'm now afraid to reboot for fear of ending up in the same position as @ShaneRagans. And I really feel like Epic Games should have announced that rooted phones wouldn't be compatible. Kinda pissed about it really.

Did you do everything else the OP did, like changing build.prop? Or were you able to just install and attempt to play then it shut you out?
I received that same error message, but I'm not rooted, it seems the beta hasn't been properly coded to see changes in device status and architecture as ok. I also believe that epic games have bypassed the Google play store as they cannot guarantee the stability of the app and it would be seen by Google play store as defective. Maybe its something we need to wait for them to get fixed. Remember this is a "beta" version and is still in development.

As long as you did not edit anything within your system, you should be fine. The game itself did not brick my phone, I bricked my phone because I was careless. I do however agree 100% that there should have been some sort of prior notice that rooted phones would not be compatible because it would have given me some time to do proper research on returning to stock before hand.

i tried many thing as well but if your bootloader is unlocked try use the 7.1.1 ver and add -i 0x1532 to the command
btw anyone wanna buy a paper for lol
Do any of you guys that bricked your phones happen to have 3 rescue?
It costs £100 but you'll get a new phone next day no questions asked.
I did this when I bricked my Samsung galaxy S6 edge+ last year.
It's expensive, but surely better than having a £500 paper weight.
Just wanted to let everyone know that Razer repaired it for $15.

constant "Bluetooth keeps stopping"

I just started receiving the error "Bluetooth keeps stopping" on my Pixel 3 XL a week ago. It comes and goes seemingly completely at random, sometimes clicking close app will work and other times it will just keep coming back over and over until I restart my phone. It's a huge problem because it takes my wifi and sometimes I think even my mobile data down with it. I've read a bunch of posts and it seems like many people have been having this issue.
I've tried turning off Wi-fi and Bluetooth scanning.
updating Google Play system update.
Clearing cache and storage of Bluetooth.
resetting every bluetooth device I own
Factory Reset
sideloading an OTA image
Flashing a factory image
I'm all out of ideas. The only thing I can come up with is it's a hardware issue, but generally hardware issues I run into are not so sporadic and random. Usually it's either broke, or not broke. It doesn't seem to correlate to how hot the phone gets. I feel like Google broke something with an Android update. I've tried to warranty it through Google but I purchased it new on Ebay and they want the original purchasers name, email and order number. Anyone know of a way around that for Google's warranty?
As a last ditch effort I just flashed the Sep 18th Android 9 factory image, crossing my fingers that for some reason that does something.
My only other idea is google has driver binaries posted for pixel devices. Do these binaries get written over/rolled back when the factory image is flashed? Or are they isolated and not touched when flashing a factory image? Could flashing new driver binaries fix the problem? If so, does anyone have a guide on how to flash the driver binaries, google gives documentation for sideloading the OTA or flashing factory images, but nothing for how to install the driver binaries.

Try flashing the dec/Jan build then lock bootloader then start phone as normal setup then unlock bootloader. There's also some Bluetooth settings in the developer ootions. Also check battery settings for the app maybe try turning off optizmation for it. There's also a setting somewhere that will let you turn off the ble236a scan it's always on mine new pair list. But the drivers are usually flash with the update or ota. I needed to flash those when flashing Dirty Unicorns. Fastboot flash vendor_a vendor.img and same for vendor_b believe the other is the radio img you would need to extract them with 7zip if using Windows.
Mine did this as well but I was using naptime, and servicly to kill and or deep sleep quicker. Which is what made me think of the battery optizmation

Just a precaution, as soon as you start locking and unlocking bootloader you're going to be doing a complete wipe of your device. So backup before hand. You'll also want to do a complete install of the factory image, with the wipe option, before you attempt to lock the bootloader. If you lock the bootloader and you are not 100% stock of something goes wrong you could end up with an expensive paper weight.

The error happened once immediately after a full factory image flash before I had downloaded a single program or changed a single setting, so I don't see how it could be bluetooth settings, battery optimization, wifi/bluetooth scanning, or a rogue app. Oddly enough, since posting this last night I've managed to go 12 hours without an errors after flashing the Sept 2018 factory image. buuuuuuuut now I'm afraid to upgrade to Android 10 again.

Thank you for making sure I understood this. Yeah, I generally factory reset my phone and laptop once a year so I always back everything up before a reset. And yeah, I haven't changed anything from stock on this phone since I've had it, so unlocking and locking the bootloader should never cause any issues. As I told Billy, the Sept 2018 image seems to have fixed the problem, fingers crossed.
Is it probable that upgrading once again to Android 10 will cause the issue to return? The Sept 2018 image must have changed an internal setting or driver that wasn't functioning properly.

I can't tell you for sure, but i would think the latest firmware should work. There have been a number of Bluetooth fixes since the original firmware, which it appears you're on now. That, and lots of security fixes.

Yeah, I mean I would much prefer being on Android 10 and having the latest updates, I normally update as soon as they come out. But, given that I flashed the Jan 2020 image and bluetooth was still broken, and then flashed the Sep 2018 which seems to have fixed it, I'm hesitant to go back to the Jan 2020 updates. Kind of tending towards the if it isn't broken, don't fix it philosophy right now. If I had time to monkey around with my phone all the time I wouldn't mind, but the semester just started and I use my phone for everything at school so I don't really have time for it to be not working. >.< Such an odd issue and odd fix.
Looks hardware related, like the cable is loose.

And it's continuing to happen even with the Sept 2018 factory image flash.
Why do you think it's hardware related and that a cable is loose when a reboot fixes it? If the cable is loose a reboot shouldn't fix it.

What do you have Bluetooth connected to when it happens?

Nothing. It doesn't matter whether anything is connected or not. It literally happened on first boot up of a fresh flashed Jan 2020 factory image, before I had put a single thing on the phone.
Generally I have my Fitbit Versa connected, I got 2 tiles awhile ago, but first troubleshooting thing I did was remove the app and delete those from bluetooth since those were my latest additions to bluetooth. I have backbeat fit headphones I use sometimes, the same with bose soundlink ii headphones, ps4 controllers, a jbl pulse 3, my car radio. But I factory restored all of those items so they weren't trying to connect to my phone, and then flashed the factory image. So I don't see how it has anything to do with an actual bluetooth connection.
Im having this same exact issue. Android 9 was always super smooth. It all started with the Android 10 update. I was having all kinds of Radio related (wifi/bluetooth/data) issues ever since. I noticed sometime in Nov/Dec that google released some kind of radio system app update and things got a little better. But I still have the Bluetooth problem (like today, which prompted me to find this thread) or every once in a while ill lose all data connectivity and have to reboot my phone for everything to come back. I LOVE the dark theme, but this has to be the worst Android update from a stability standpoint ive ever experienced.
Just want you to know it isnt just you. Its something to do with some phones on Android 10

Yeah, I wish this thread held a solution for you. I've searched and searched and tried every solution I've found on google and nothing has worked, and really none of the threads I have found have ever had a concrete solution either, just one or two people going "well I did THIS and it worked", and a bunch of people saying it didn't work for them. I just cannot fathom how a full factory flash back to the very first image would not revert the changes that came with Android 10. That's why I was questioning whether or not a factory flash replaces driver binaries. It's the only way I could see the factory flash to Sept 2018 not fixing our issue. (Other than it really being a hardware issue, but that doesn't seem possible to me.)
Oh wow, you're still having same issues on Android 9??
Im still on Android 10, most recent update. I did do a full factory flash a few weeks ago and it was quite the improvement. But I still do have the Bluetooth/radio issue every once in a while, like yesterday.
I wonder if it's a hardware issue and/or substandard hardware performance that Android 10 made more prevalent? That's something we'll probably never know
I only pointed to hardware as I had a similar issue years ago. The radio connections were slightly loose so it would come and go. I do hope you are able to figure out what is wrong, was not trying to be rude.

Oh no, I didn't think for a second you were being rude. And I appreciate your idea, just with what I'm experiencing with my specific phone it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue.
Strangely enough, the issue has been tapering off as of late, after the factory resets I just continued to use my phone while I wait to figure out if I can get a refund or a warranty replacement, etc. The issue has been occurring with much less frequency since then. Still happens, but not like it was.
Damn, the Bluetooth bug is back again. It was so bad the other day, my phone kept bootlooping for like 20 mins while I was on the road.
I finally just let phone sit for a while and it fixed itself. Man this is completely sporadic.

Yeah, mines been better for like 4 days, and then it just crashed and rebooted by itself earlier today.
has anyone gotten to the bottom of this yet? it seems to be a result of the play store system update being "stuck" on Sept 1st...even if you get it to download to the current version, currently March 1st, after a reboot it will not show the March update has been applied. And should it actually show that the March update has been applies, within a day the phone will reboot and the bluetooth bug will return, strangely the update to the play store system reverts to Sept 1st.
I'm having this issue with my son's phone. I tried unlocking the bootloader and flashing the factory img from April but of course the bug is still there, and after signing in the Play Store system is of course dated Sept 1st
There is no fix. I made an official Android Issue Tracker thread.
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/151033055
and a Google Pixel Phone Help thread.

Google's being ****ty about it. I eventually just bought a new Pixel 4 XL. I needed a functional phone for school and work, and as much as I hate to spend money on another Google product after this mess, they do make the most powerful pure android phones with the best camera. Ebay FTW, $600, never giving them another penny directly.
If you still have warranty, get it warrantied immediately, and don't take no for an answer. I dawdled around thinking it would get fixed and even though I reported that I was having issues with it directly to Google's phone support BEFORE the warranty expired, by the time I called a second time and pushed a manager to see if they could warranty it, my warranty had expired so they told me to go jump in a lake.
to make it worse, Google told me the phone still has an extended warranty but I'm not the original owner and have no way to contact that individual. But you need that person's email address for it to work. So it was purchased but because of this technicality it's null and void. I get the security of it but it's still garbage
