Should I update to MIUI 10 by OTA or unlock bootloader to flash MIUI 10 - Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro Questions & Answers

I just bought the redmi 6 pro which unfortunately is the Chinese version but not minding almost all I see in the phone is in Chinese and I use Google translate to read few things here and to be frank, I love the phone and will keep maximising how interesting it will be. I saw an update alert in the settings to download and install an update as shown in the picture below but I keep seeing people who write about unlocking bootloaders and tweaking their phones. Apart from installing custom ROMs, themes, etc; what else is in this hype of unlocking bootloaders? Hope it is safe to update from OTA? Though I use to be tech zealous about custom in my previous Android phones but I've come to just love and stay in peace with the official ROM of this device and wouldn't want altering any of it's official settings.

If you have China version with CN Miui (ODICNFD) you can do OTA update.
You need to unlock bootloader if you have China version with Indian Miui (ODMMIFD) and want to do OTA update.
You must be sure which version of phone and which version of Miui you have

I have modified bootloader and installed Indian rom on CN version
If I check my product name
fastboot getvar product
It says sakura_ Indian
That why I can't do a OTA update without unlock bootloader because I have CN version with modified bootloader.
Just check your version in fastboot mode (btw your box of Redmi 6 pro has to be red and with Chinese characters. If it is correct you can do OTA update without unlock bootloader.

First of you have to unlock bootloader. Then Check in fastboot mode name of your phone. "fastboot getvar product". If you have sakura just unpack Miui global fastboot rom and edit flash_all.bat and flash_all.sh by notepad++ and change sakura_india to sakura. Then install it with miflash. Use only clean all, don't use clean all and lock!

U need to download both ROM same version n extract it . Just copy n replace flash_all.bat cn version to indian global n copy rbv.img from cn to indian ROM images folder. After successful flashing u need to unlock bootloader again if not u stuck in recovery mode.

Locked bootloader on Global 8.0.3.0 & Global developer rom

A lot of users have locked bootloader on Global 8.0.3.0 rom, which can not be unlocked in regular way without deep flash cable (for installing china rom for example). In near future (if they do not delay again) we will have Global developer rom for Xiaomi mi 5s, so simple question is, can we install that rom with updater app even with locked bootloader?
Install Global 8.2.1.0 (en.miui.com/thread-567657-1-1.html). There you can enter the unlock informations in developer options.
I think that rom can not be verified when installing with updater app. With Mi flash I can not install because I have locked bootloader...
However, that was not my question... I asked can we install global dev with updater app if our bootloader is locked?

You can install the fastboot version (not recovery) of the rom through miflash. In fact, that is the only way to go from global stable to china developer with locked bootloader or at least the only way I know. The global developer has been delayed.

I still think you need to deep flash in order to do this.

Nah, you really need deep flash for this or expect for OTA (which has been delayed so long).
I must wait for OTA only to bound account to device in developer option, to unlock bootloader...

That was the only way I managed to unlock the bootloader, by installing te developer ROM. The updater app didn't work, neither did MiFlash.
I will wait for OTA, because I do not have deep flashe cable and do not know how to flash with that cable....
Hey, developer global is available and you can install just download the file and use updater app
I can confirme that, did the update with de updater app and everything went fine
Thanks
Just installed global beta and gonna try to unlock bootloader...
EDIT:
Bootloader unlocked... If anyone got error "Binding time is too short...", just use older version of Mi flash unlock tool, or wait given time to unlock bootloader.

Just update to Global beta with updater app (before backup everything, because is gonna delete data), than you can unlock your bootloader...if you have permission from Xiaomi, of course...On Miui 8.0.3.0 you can not unlock bootloader.

Stucked in Fastboot mode

Hi Guys,
I am stucked at fastboot mode afterb trying to flash back to China Rom,how to get out of it?
Thanks in advance.
Mi max 3 anti roll back, you mus flash last version to unbrick your device
1. This is not the right section for this question.
2. if you came from 8.8.23 China Beta you have Anti-rollback, which means that to move to china stable you would have to wait for the next china release and flash it from the updater app and not from fastboot. I know its annoying but its safe. If you are stuck in fastboot try flashing latest 8.8.23 China Beta from mi flasher
3. if you came from 8.8.9 China Beta, Try flashing 8.8.9 again
This happened me too today. My phone arrived with the fake global rom 9.6.4. I was flashing official Chinese rom v9.6.11.0 and got a message saying flash successful, however a window also popped up saying MiFlash stopped working and my phone was stuck on the fastboot screen then.
If you find a solution to this problem I would appreciate it and vice versa.

1- flash and boot to twrp
2- format data then wipe (system and cashes)
3- flash xiaomi.eu 8.8.9 or any release before that and reboot
4- use mi flashtool to flash any stable before 9.6.12 or beta before 8.8.17 and choose wipe all and lock in mi flashtool ( this is very important to unlock it your self later with official permission)

yes, most of the unlocked phones from retailers are unlocked without official authorization and that is the main reason for ADB/fast boot fails in some cases , I have MM1, MM2 and now MM3 and I know this by experience.

hi, you enlighten me so much. can i ask more? now what rom do u use in mi max 3? and why?
So to rectify, I tried to flash the official China ROM V.9.6.11 again. It did not flash properly again the 2nd time.
I then asked it to "flash and lock". Official China ROM flashed now and operating on my phone.
My plan is now to apply to have the phone OFFICIALLY unlocked, as it was obviously unofficially unlocked to put the fake Global ROM on it by the vendor, which caused a problem being stuck in Fastboot.
I do not mind waiting the 2 weeks, and once unlocked I will either put the Xiaomi.EU rom on it, or hopefully the official Global ROM will be released by that time.

Where I can download the official rom to use mui flash?
Where i can find an explanation to use mui flash? Cause after lock the boot loader the phone is in bootloop...

What do you actually flash in step 1?
Is step 3 really necessary? Why can't I flash from the fake ROM directly to 9.6.11?
Thanks, man!

in step (1) flash official twrp ( I used minimal adb v1.4.3), step (3) is to have correct firmware and avoid mi flasher fail and boot loop ( many guys try flashing directly from fake rom to China but ended up with bootloops)

Alright, so I am on China stable 9.6.11 with TWRP (not Xiaomi original recovery). When I flashed my latest ROM, I chose "clean all and lock (bootloader)" per your instructions and I applied for offical bootloader unlocking by downloading Xiaomi flash unlocking. I still have 500+ hours, but I was told when my bootloader is unlocked eventually, my user data will be erased again.
So will it be a better idea to flash global stable ROM first or wait for the official bootloader unlocking then flash global stable ROM?
Question: I have China Stable 9.6.12.0 on mine Max3. If I want to install the Global Version should I have to wait for Global Version equal version (9.6.12.0) or later? Os there any suggestion to flash the incoming Global 9.6.7.0 on mine (ARB suposed to be implemented in mine version)?

Go back to Stock ROM from Custom ROM (Help)

Hello you beautiful people ,
I recently purchased a Redmi Note 5 AI and i want to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM since i'm not happy with MIUI, i have read about ARB and i'm fully aware that i can't flash an older MIUI ROM with a lower ARB than what i previously had.
But what's absolutely confusing me is if i decide to change my mind, how do i go back to Stock Everything (ROM, Recovery, Bootloader) basically and be able to receive OTA's from Xiaomi normally again? (I tried to search the forums to find an answer but i couldn't find anything so please don't tell me to check the forums).

You will get option to lock the bootloader or keep the bootloader unlocked
Yes this method will bring stock recovery and you will get OTA updates.
You have to download global ROM to flash it on global variant device
Or China ROM to flash it on Chinese variant device

Yes you can flash 10.2.2 or any older ROM wich has ARB value 4 (you can flash any ROM between 9.5.19 to 10.2.2)

If u lock bootloader after flash, the motherboard crash because not same region that he configurated. So if u let him unlock bootloader, ure device won't think about region and let u boot into ure china rom

it is not about the motherboard , it is about the bootloader because it the system check for your device and its security , it does not crash it will not boot because the bootloader cannot accept such system to run on that partition except the official one for the motherboard
So, it is mandatory to unlock the bootloader even when you are flashing stock firmware?
Just don't lock it again with other firmware?
