How to transfer files between PC and Watch - Samsung Galaxy Watch

For example I would like to copy watch face (downloaded from Samsung store) from watch to PC and edit in Samsung watch face app and then install it back to watch.
Can someone give me steps how to achieve that?

From Watch is "wrong" way... because you need ROOT to have access to all folders...
AND files are "spread"...
Easier ... IMHO... is to catch Install packages on Handset...
WGT and/or TPK files are stored... before tranfered to Watch...
And if I remember correct. They will still on handset as Backup...
If Samsung not changed this...

Downloading Files From The Web?

One of the key features i loved with Windows Mobile was i could manage files and download files from the web with ease. i could download pictures, mp3's, zip folders, rar folders and extract the files all on the phone without being dependent on a computer.
Now i recently had a chance to try to download a mp3 file that i uploading on a hosting site and when i clicked download the mp3 i was trying to download began playing in the browser but i could not locate it on the device. What happens when u try to download pictures, mp3s , zip and rar files on wp7? i know theres no file manager but u are able to save pictures from what ive read so why cant we save mp3s and add it to the zune library on the phone? what happens with the zip and rar files? and if u are able to download zip and rar then maybe we can get some kind of pocketrar or something
is it any chance of a limited file explorer being made that just gives u access to files downloaded from the web without giving access to the phones files and registry settings that they dont want us tampering with?
this is a huge issue along with the usb mass storage mode and multitasking that i really hope they add support for in the future
Lol, I posted the same thing a week ago. So far all I found is you can save pictures to your phone. MP3's download and start to play in Zune, but they aren't saved. Same thing for videos I tried to download. Tried to download a zipped mixtape. No Go!
i hope they address this some kind of way because i do this 90% of the time now on my touch pro 2
it will unzip standard zip files but I don't know about the rest of the compressed files.

Didn't work for me. Matter of fact it said WP7 doesn't support zip files when I tried to dl a mixtape.
when install app from marketplace, where did those downloads go? are those save to phone at installation, cabs or xap. what happended to the files?
also, if I download files, music, pictures, videos, pdf, where would they go? how to download them to pc?

Like I said when I dl music, The Zune player opens up and plays the song. Video same thing. It opens the file just like on your computer when you select open instead of save. That's it. I was able to save pictures. They go with the other pictures on my phone. PDF go in Adobe Reader, but the must delete after you read them unless you save them(?). I get them everyday and read but I've never deleted them but they are gone.
internet exploere does have any featue to download files, even picture.
suppose it is possible to download files, where would the files go? how to find them.

If you select a picture on a webpage, you hold down on it and the save option comes up. That's all I've found. You keep asking. Everything I've tried doesn't download. IE buffers it then plays it. Like Netflix does! You watch a movie but it's not on your phone or computer.
Yea that was a killer for me that's why I use my mytouch 4g now and because the brower is so slow
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
played with this further. After downloading zip of 2 songs, it did unzip them and allowed them to be played, but it would not save them to the phone as far as I could tell.
I just tried a pdf, it downloade and open in adobe reader, but it is never saved to phone.
this is a big problem for WP7. cannot load files to phone except music and videos.
how to take out the files in word and one note mobile? i save some files and could not take them out.
As for pdfs and pictures its not true.
Those two can be saved and opened in the pictures hub and the adobe pdf app.
I don't think its a huge problem but I would also like it to be "fixed". Maybe Microsoft want to prevent that users are buying music at amazon or other stores than zune?
Edit: And for getting office stuff or pdfs out of the phone: you can email it to you... (not the best solution i know)

is it impossible to make a file explorer app for the marketplace that only gives u access to storage space on the memory card and not to the phones file system? that way you can manage files through the alotted space on the memory card adding songs to zune and pdf files zip folders and other kinds of files? that way saving files would be no problem and ur not screwing with the phones file system would microsoft go for a app like this?
pdf save in picture hub? i dont see it anywhere. you cant even email it to yourself if you cant find the file.
it is not saved it the file system. I tried to put the phone into usb mode, just see what files in pictures, and music folder. pdf is not there.
Guys,
Pdf is AUTOMATICALLY saved to the phone once opened from email or website.
You just need AdobeReader and files can be browsed and deleted from the app.

App Installation via Kies... and... Over the Air

Maybe someone realized that Kies installs via obex Command...
Obelix??? Obi-Wan Obi-what? See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929206
Maybe someone investigate in folder:
...blablubblabla\Kies\Download\Applications
You can see:
SamsungAppsLocalDB...db.
Each app has 2 files...
2012M_a_n_y_D_i_g_i_t_s.app.img
This is Picture... you can rename into PNG for instance...
2012M_a_n_y_D_i_g_i_t_s.app
1.
If app is downloaded WITHOUT attached device... in Header is without IMEI.
Otherwise it is locked with your IMEI... + timestamp
2.
File is compressed/encrypted something like this...
2.1
It seems Header is hashed by something...
"Signature" is 20 Bytes... somewhere near end of file...
2.2
Content of file seems ever the same... only header + Sig different...
Compared from different accounts... PCs...
2.3
It seems online Verification... NO idea if really needed...
But Kies not install if no internet or Samsung work on Kies...
3.
Maybe 3 stages...
Stage 1...
Kies decrypt file *.app on PC... It seems NOT in temp folder...
Somewhere else...
No idea yet.
Stage 2... "decrypted" result is sending to handset...
Stage 3...
encrypted OAP is decrypted to OAP... NORMAL ZIP...
I have few Questions...
1.
I have not found yet, where Kies decrypt *.app before sending to handset...
Bigger *.app more time... and you see how your HD is full...
Thanx for reading.
Best Regards
Edit 1.
Answer was same folder...

i tried to see my apps in that track
and found
bada 2 apps high protected than bada 1 apps
when i open bada 2 apps it open folders but i can't review the files
with bada 1 apps i see the files easy
i try to change the name "2012M_a_n_y_D_i_g_i_t_s.app" and "img" of bada 2 app
with name of bada 1.2 app
but result was bad
i have ques .... we can't use backup apps for something?

Please. Step by step.
There are not such big differences between Install routine bada 1 and bada 2 with Kies... in my opinion.
After 2 times decryption result is an OAP file which is ZIP...
You can catch the ZIP aka oap file from EVERY Firmware easily.
Last tested Firmware... XXKL6
But the ZIP file alone is nearly useless... accept no funny DCF aka AES encrypted files... because you need exact install commands...
If someone NOT know, what oap file is. Check your bada 2.0 system for it...

Again. Where Kies decrypt file *.app before transfer to handset?

i don't mean difference in installing app by kies
i mean the protect of files (i can extract 1.2 apps but can't with 2 apps)
Kies make something with *.app file BEFORE transfer to Wave.
So please search on PC harddisk...

If Kies is ready with prepare file it send to [email protected]@@[email protected]@@_
Funny under bada 1.2 to see in Explorer under OSP... Sideloading...
But also in bada 2.0 no problem... simple install only on SD Card...
Then you can see hidden files and folder via TkFileExplorer_2.4.exe
[email protected]@@[email protected]@@_

Again.
Need location where Kies is preparing temp file *.app for transfer...
Thanx.

Adfree
Take care please because Samsung may......
You know too much
I think Kies do the decryption on the fly....Nothing stored....Just transfer to the phone and decrypt from there....I know sounds crazy....Maybe handset have the decryption Algo.. too
But i got a question
If you can get OAP file then why you need to know where the package was on PC ?!

Bada 2.0
I suspect it is temporarily stored and decoded in memory card \others\DownloadedAppPackages
I have one old memory card with a file named 75m36v8hlf.oap__BDTemp__G00000142314 in this folder. Unfortunately it is zero bytes in size so was probably a failed download. This folder is empty in the other 5 memory card images that I have kept.
PS: Love your work adfree
memory card \others\DownloadedAppPackages
Click to collapse
This is temporary download folder if you use store from handset...
Now you could catch ZIP (*.oap) file if you want.
1.
Open TkFileExplorer_2.4.exe
Navigate to \others\DownloadedAppPackages
This is hidden folder, removed normally... You see this first if your download is started...
2.
Now you can click between 2 folders to see update content of folder...
Example:
75m36v8hlf.oap__BDTemp__G00000142314 is the first ENCRYPTED file---> ignore it...
If download finished (reached 100 % )... you see in folder:
75m36v8hlf.oap
You have to be fast, copy this file to your harddisk.
This file is decrypted or other Format then first, BUT still encrypted...
3.
After complete copy to HD of 75m36v8hlf.oap...
Now folder \others\DownloadedAppPackages is NOT removed + 75m36v8hlf.oap
Copy now again 75m36v8hlf.oap to PC.
Rename into 75m36v8hlf.oap.ZIP
Enjoy.
This is working on every Firmware...
Bye bye DCF...
Best Regards
P.S.:
No idea what 75m36v8hlf is... Sorry.
__G00000142314 this is something stored in file later somewhere... forgotten...
lbyao
Thank you.
Now I have little more time to investigate...
Screenshot is from XXKL6.

@adfree - 75m36v8hlf is app id. you could check from the menifest file to confirm that.
75m36v8hlf is hangman
I've tried to make a virtual web server on my own pc and force kies to download files from my local
the idea is that kies downloads encrypted OAP from my local and decrypts it
but it just works in a special situation
when in kies i download an app, the encrypted file must be the same as what i want to download from kies, else it gives error and it doesn't decrypt that file
take a look at this header at first of all encrpted OAPs
<sadxmlhdr>
<SID length='4'>S100</SID>
<CID length='16'>77de453v9z-1.0.0</CID>

<PlaintextSize length='7'>1242735</PlaintextSize>
<Packdate length='20'>2011-11-21T21:14:09Z</Packdate>

I try sniffing my wifi connection to find out the installation method using wifi
maybe it can help us
Better foget the kies via wifi
see attachment
EDIT: kies via wifi seems funny
you can just sync or import/export (applications are not included in backup !)
so almost you can do nothing with it
No no.
Please read very carefully... NOT via Kies.
Samsung send you Push notification... AFTER you choose something online in Browser...
Especially for you again. Link with Video + Screenshots.

This is not newest... This is since few months available for bada 2...
New is Video in my opinion.

Transfering/Backing up files with timestamps

Hello,
I want to root my phone, but i have quite a bit of music under the "music" folder. Is there a way to copy/move this folder with the timetamps etc?
The reason i want time stamps to stick is for PowerAmp, as i like to sort the by lastest added etc!
I've tried Windows 7 Manager Super Copy, but doesnt like the way the phone is connected
Thanks
Sad time. This is why its said to unlock and root on first day, even if you keep it stock.
Hope you connect to pc and copy all those files. Then copy all back after root. Many hours...
yea might just have too!

Any way to copy file when not rooted?

Hello all
Forgive me for any ignorance for any part of this, kinda still learning the Android stuff.
Basically I got a Tab Pro 8.4 for Xmas, an like a lot of it, but really don't care for the huge Weather widget, or how it's designed. But I do want to stay with a Accuweather version.
My first learning of Android came from a Stratosphere II phone I have, an I kinda like that weather widget. Plus I think it would be a little smaller.
To mention, I rooted that device as it was pretty easy, (an way out of warranty), but I have yet to root the 8.4 as seems to be more complicated and I kinda almost don't want to unless I really have too as I really don't want to trip the Knox.
Anyway, so my goal here was to try the Strat's weather widget in the 8.4, so I went into the system folder of the Strat, got all the files that had to do with anything of the weather widget, copied them to my PC, put them in the doc's folder of the 8.4, and then tried to copy them to same system folder, which I was able to view with Root Explorer, but when I went to paste them in, it told me I couldn't as the device was not rooted.
So is there any way I can get these files into there?
Thanks for any help.
To write or modify with '/' or '/system' files you will need root, really anything outside of the /mnt/sdcard directory(s) are mostly read only or 'locked' with permissions to a certain user (each "app" is a separate user).
Anyways I don't see why you would need to put the file there anyways as you should be able to just install it as a normal "User" application regardless where it was installed on the other device, all you need is the .apk file from the other device then install it on the 8.4, you will first need to enable "unknown Sources" in Settings.
(First on device that has the app you want - look in "/system/app/" ," /system/priv-app/" - there should be some files with a ".apk" extension find the one for the weather app /widget you want to use, and copy it to your pc, then copy the file to the tab 8.4, click on it in a file manager such as root explorer or the one that came with the tablet, it should prompt you to enable Unknown Sources under settings , enable the option, then proceed to install it - you shouldn't need any other files besides the apk )
If it doesn't work then the apk could be coded to a certain device (as some Samsung apps are) or just too old to run on kitkat.
See my screenshots for some basic example (the apk file will probably be called something else on the other device)
Thanks so much otyg, you are always such a great help.
So just to reply a few things . . . yes, the files were in the system/apps folder from the original device. Second, when I first got the 8.4, I went through all the settings menus, an found that thing on "Unknown Sources" an clicked it, kinda remember that from something I learned with the smartphone, so knew right off to check that. Guess the only reason am mentioning, is to mention that I have been using a few Explorer apps, but none have promoted me for what you mentioned, an am guessing as it was already checked(?).
So at the moment I have the files sitting in a documents folder of the 8.4, but now to ask on those . . . when I went into the app folder of the org device, there were several files that had the accuweather in them.
First on this point, there were three that had the apk ext, an those were, AccuweatherDaemon.apk, AccuweatherWidget_Main.apk and, AccuweatherWidget.apk.
Then to mention too, each one had a corresponding worded file with a .odex ext.
So not knowing much, I copied all six.
So don't know if you could answer this, but do you have any idea of which I should install, or should I install all of them? An again just to remind, what I am looking for here is the Widget from my org device, but I do want it to work. Then one more question on this point, is there anyway to uninstall these if any cause some kind of issue?
Lastly an just to mention, as I posted, I don't know much about the Android system, so just didn't know that a .apk file is basically a install file. KInda thought they were application execution files, which I think they are(?) . . . but they can be app install files a well? Sorry to ask such a knob question as well as so many others, but is how I will learn.
Again, thanks so much for the help.

Apk files used for installing apps like an exe file on windows or a dmg on mac, when you install something from the play store it is delivered as an APK file but it just happens "behind the scenes" so to speak, you are just bypassing the play store and directly installing the app but it's the same process...
When you install a app this is what happens in most cases.
1. The APK(s) gets stored in /data/app/<applicationname.apk> (this will get removed on uninstall.)
2. it creates a unique directory under /data/data/<applicationname> (this will get removed on uninstall)
3. it can create a directory under /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/<applicationname> (these files usually get left behind on uninstall but since it's on the user storage the user can remove them, it usually contains settings or cache files)
You don't need the .odex files, these are encrypted and probably wont work on other devices, it's basically the apk optimized for the device so it starts faster.
Just install the 3 apk's, the widget probably needs the main program for support and the daemon service probably runs in the background for updates ..etc, since you are installing them as a normal user it won't do much harm and you can always remove them if they do cause an issue, Applications are self contained and when you remove them the corresponding data folders are removed too (on the device) so it is unlikely to do any lasting damage.
To remove them go to Settings -> General -> Application Manager -> Downloaded and remove the apps from there . (if you don't see them swipe right until you see All )
Thanks so much for the reply an the education otyg
Did just as you suggested, deleted the odex files an tapped on the apk's to install, an don't know for why, but while it seemed to go as normal, in the end, I got a message saying they did not install, for all three.
Replaced the odex's back an that didn't seem to make a dif.
Perhaps it didn't work as could not install as device is not rooted?
Just to mention, I did have something with my Strat II device back a few months ago, where I placed another version of a accuweather widget in the systems/app folder, an it did show up.
At any rate, was a good try an thanks again for all the info.
Perhaps if I can get this device rooted, I can try again by just putting the apps in the folder.

Watch firmware and GWD files

So how exactly does the Galaxy Watch handle those .TPK files created by GWD. I've been checking out GWD's .jar files and I have a pretty good idea how it handles the watchface.xml file. But something tells me that GWD doesn't do everything that the watch can do.
How does the firmware load the GWD .tpk files? I'd like to take a peek inside the firmware to see exactly how it works and if there's any watchface.xml capabilities we don't know about.
