Cannot delete photo from SD card - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

Just put a SD card from my old Samsung phone to my new z2 force and found out that I cannot delete photo from this SD card, either using Google Photo app or File Explorer. Using File Explorer I can delete other files just fine (like pdf files). I don't want to format the SD card as I have quite a few things in there.
Anyone know a fix?

You need to give those apps permission to access your storage. Go to apps and check the permissions.

Unable to read SD card

Just switched over from an Evo 3D and swapped my old 32gb sd card. Opening the native file manager, or Astro, or es file manager have all come up empty when exploring the sd card. Weird thing is that my pictures still show up in the gallery as well as all my music in the music app but not in any file managers.
Another strange issue is that I am unable to download anything from the browser, k don't know if this is related to the sd card so I am hoping to hear if anyone figured out how to get around this. Also, I am unable to mount USB dried when plugged into the computer. I appreciate any help you guys can provide.
Try exploring external_sd. SD is the phones storage and not the card you put in.
....
I am trying to get used to this as well! I think the folder named "sdcard" should ACTUALLY be the sdcard!

Does this mean done apps that utilize the sd card will have issues or even not work at all?
same question here...i have a sub dir called /sdcard/external_sd But if you want an app to use the SD card it will use /sdcard, not the external_sd...so is it a total waste to put a microsd card into this phone, since I will only be able to utilize the space if i manually copy **** to that directory????
If you move an app to the "SD card" in the manage applications it will move it to the actual SD card. It won't put it on the internal storage.

[Q] Creating new folders through the stock gallery to an SD card. Is it possible?

I was wondering if it's possible to create new folders on the SD card from the gallery. Currently, I have my pictures save to my SD card by default. The issue is if I want to take all my recent pictures and put them into a new folder (like "Christmas 2012" or whatever), the gallery creates the new folder on the internal storage and then moves all the selected pictures from the SD card to the phone. Then I have to go through the file manager and move the folder back to the SD card to keep my phone memory available.
Is there a workaround for this, or will using a new gallery app fix it?
Use a file explorer and make yourself your new folder in your sd card. Then you will only have to sort all your photos and will save on your sd card

[Q] Moving Apps (App Data) to External SD Card

When you check out an app's info, there is an option to "Move to SD card". When I do this, I see that the available internal storage space really does free up. I tried finding the app data in the external sd, but no new directories are made and the size of the "Android" folder in the external sd remains at 32 bytes. So, where is the app data in the external sd?
I don't mean to resurrect an old thread, but I felt compelled to answer this, since this issue bugged me for hours. I'll just leave it here in case anyone else stumbles on to this.
If you are able to move apps to the SD card in G3, android v.4.4 Kitkat, whether by default, or by applying the SD Fix ("media_rw"...), then doing so will only move certain files to your SD (the .apk, I think), but not inside the /external_SD/Android/data folder. The files will instead be moved to the /.android_secure folder, which is hidden and cannot be viewed using a file browser in Android, even with root (tried ES Explorer). You can view this folder if you insert the SD directly to your PC via a card slot. The files moved will have the .asec extension.
In order to move the actual files from the data or obb folder, and save space, one would have to use an app such as FolderMount, although I haven't tried this myself.

[Q] Non root write to external sd Lollipop?

Just done an OTA update to Android 5 on my UK sim free Lg G3 but I am still unable to move files from internal SD to external SD.
Have a lot of downloads that are taking up space and tried to use ES file manager to move a video to my 64GB micro SD card and it failed.
I thought Lollipop returned the use of the external SD card?
Don't want to root the G3 because the banking apps will stop working.
What should I do?
Hi, did you try tu use stock file manager?
The stock file manager does not have a copy/move option.
Has write to SD actually been returned in Lollipop or is rooting the only option?
It has. Hold your finger on file and it will popup menu. Im using it all time. It's not FM if it doesn't have move copy or delete.
Tried that but again, no copy/move options (lots if others though, inc. delete, share ect).
Strange problem this.
Just an update.
I unmounted the external sd card and erased.
Now the built in file manager has all the options Inc. copy and move.
I can now write to the card.
Lolliepop has reintroduced Write To SD Card
The file manager app Xplore can now write to the sd card. You have to try it first and then it will send you through a small set up to allow writing to the sd card. So Google fixed it. Its just now the apps have to be reconfigured to be able to write to the sd card.

Click to collapse
Glad to got that fixed mate! To make deleting videos and pics easier.. you can try Quickpic from Play Store. You can select multiple pics/videos easy and fast..move them to a desired folder or delete them

Not sure, I tried moving one music file and it just gets stuck and causes the app to crash.
