HONOR 8X MAX root - Honor 8X Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello Friends:
There isn't an HONOR 8X MAX forum, so I have to post here (for now).
Recognizing that there are non-trivial differences between the HONOR 8X and HONOR 8X MAX, does anyone know if a root solution is soon coming for the HONOR 8X MAX?
For a long time I lived happily Ad-free on my NEXUS-6 (which is still going strong as a backup phone), but I really need root on my 8X MAX.
Sadly, I don't have those kinds of skills to do it (or else I would for all to benefit).
Any ideas, rumblings, thoughts?
Thank you (and happy holidays)! ??

There is a way to do it, just look in this forum as there is a root solution already if you don't want to use it, you can always use adguard for example, as it works quite well

I'll have to look harder because I couldn't find one for the 8X MAX, only the 8X. If you have a URL for it, I'd appreciate it. If not, no worries. Thank you.
P.S. I'm trying to avoid ads in apps in addition to the browser. Not that I'm selfish... I nearly always buy ad-free versions of items (including reasonably-priced yearly subscriptions) to support developers. But some apps don't offer that option.
(._.) Not to get off-topic, I'll welcome Root + AdAway again. Thanks.

Hi... I have the ARE-AL10 model. From your signature, yours may be a ARE-AL00 model (I suspect). I think it may be Snapdragon 660 versus 636. I don't know if it makes a difference?

I guess there's no root -- so far/ to date -- for HONOR 8X MAX.
These are great phones at value prices (unlike the $1,000/yr. upgrade treadmill that Samsung would like to continue).
But we do need ROOT to overcome oddities with Chinese phone builds (i.e. Huawei, Xiaomi) - several of which are not trivial and really problematic. :-/

Would the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro root/twrp work with The honor 8x max ?

If you are just look for adblocker you can get it even without root
use Blokada ad blocker it doesnt require root.

Thank you. I find that these no-root ad blockers don't work well within Apps (and what gets through varies from app to app), including Blokada which I tried. Also, I require root for other reasons. Thank you for the tip, though.

Hi:
Which TWRP and instructions for installing it are you referring to? I would like to read how to install it. Thank you.

You have to register with 4pda and believe me it's a pain in the ass to figure out the captha because it's all in Russian,if shao would post a link to a non Russian site would be great but he still hasn't yet

Ah okay, thank you. I think I visited the same site you're mentioning and stayed away because, being in Russian, could lead to mistakes and brick the phone. ?
Forgive my ignorance, you mentioned "Shao". I don't know who that is. Did he create the 'root'? Thanks again.

Yeah he made TWRP compatible with 8x max

Thank you. I guess I'll (we'll) wait more, and if I (anyone) finds new developments, share them here.

Request for Japanese SHARP DIAG driver!

Hi, I have a SHARP SH-06E and I successfully turned on its DIAG mode.
Now I have some devices not recognized, the HW IDs are below:
USB\VID_04DD&PID_96CD&REV_0228&MI_02
USB\VID_04DD&PID_96CD&MI_02
USB\VID_04DD&PID_96CD&REV_0228&MI_03
USB\VID_04DD&PID_96CD&MI_03
I cannot find its driver anywhere...
Can I mod the HTC/Moto one and force it installed? I want to use QPST to explore its internals.

Temp root, and then run this it will allow DIAG.
Then setprop, see init.qcom.rc for details.
IIUC, diag mode drivers should be same for all Snapdragon (600 here) devices. Anyway it's pretty easy to edit driver ID and force installation.
Please keep us in touch, enabling QPST access will be great.
Also maybe you know is there any way to enter recovery without ADB?

Welcome!
No, I'm afraid not. Sharp's (and all of Japanese manufacturers') smartphones use highly customized versions of Android. Your only chance to upgrade to a higher version is when Sharp/Docomo release it. Still, you will need to have installed all minor (software) updates before that. What this means: Once a new version of Android is released, send your phone to someone in Japan (e.g. the seller you bought it from) to update to latest build version, then upgrade Android, then return to you. Everything else - you risk bricking the phone.
What you can do now that you have root... Install Titanium Backup Pro to make backups of /system apps, then uninstall them (but make sure you read on Japanese sites what can and what can't be disabled unless you want to brick your phone).
Another thing you can do is install Link2SD to integrate updates of built-in apps into /system (overwrite the built in apps with newer versions). This, however, is not really necessary now that the phones come with 8-16 GB of onboard storage -- used to be important for phones like my 005SH or SH-01D where available ROM space was 200 MB and 850 MB respectively.
Yet another thing you can do is install AutoStarts to disable certain apps from launching when the phone boots, e.g. OneSeg TV and many others -- this will make the phone work faster. But then again, the SH-06E is pretty powerful... how much faster do you want it to be?

Thank you very much for this reply! That's very kind of you. My phone has some little fault (software). When I'm using the lock screen (trying to unlock) the phone resets itself. That's the one problem I have at the moment. My sharp is new and really great but I have little kids and I'm afraid that one day they may use my phone.
I thought if my phone is rooted I can upgrade the system to kitkat or normal jellybean ( not branded) and fix that problem.
Looks like I have only two options. Sell it on ebay or try it to do some upgrade. There are some apps on google play, maybe mobile odin pro or something? Any ideas?
regards for all

Hm... resetting when unlocking the screen... sounds weird. A friend has this phone, and my brother is still waiting to receive his in the next couple of days. But I haven't heard of any such issue with it. What is your build version? The latest one is 1.00.07. I read in the updates list that various bugs have been fixed but no mention of yours.
Have you disabled any apps? Maybe you can try re-enabling everything, then resetting to factory settings --- NEVER reset to factory setting if you have disabled any apps. Not sure about a rooted SH-06E.
I am sure that Android 4.3 will roll out some time this year for the SH-06E. You can upgrade it then. I might be able to help you with that but we'll see once the update comes out.
I did uninstall actually some apps but after when I restored the system everything was ok until I started to install google apps and the others. There may be some conflict. But obviously I'm not sure.
This phone is really pretty so perhaps I will not take a risk but who knows...
It would be nice if you could help me with installation of android 4.3. I have tired to find some information on Japanese websites, a there is some "img files" but those files are to small so perhaps it's not the system.
My build version is 1.00.07.
Kind regards
A little correction. I think I know what the problem is. I did not make an update of google keyboard and the problem gone. At this moment of course, after all day of using my Sharp. I hope this can be helpful for somebody.
Have you finally managed to get QPST worked?
I really want to use EDGE on my SH-06E but it seems that I have to enable it myself with QXDM.
I saw some Japaneses use HTC Diag driver on Xperia Z Ultra and it worked. Perhaps it would work with SH-06E.
hi there,

[Guide] Enable App Twin Feature on EMUI 5.0

Saw few users not having App Twin feature on various variant of 6X on EMUI 5.0. I found this trick on Honor 5C Facebook group shared by one of the user claiming this worked for him on rooted phone. I could not test this because I already have this feature on my phones so unable to verify but someone not having this feature on EMUI 5.0 can verify and report.
This needs a rooted phone with root enabled file explorer. (Root browser or ES file manager)
Go to this path:- system/emui/lite/prop/
backup this file - local.prop (copy and paste in internal storage or somewhere)
Now edit the original file under system/emui/lite/prop/ and make below changes.
fw.max_users=1 to 2
fw.show_multiuserui=0 to 1
ro.config.hw_support_clone_app=false to true.
Save the file and Reboot the phone.
Now check in settings option just below battery for app twin.
If it works, please share the feedback so that other users can get benefit of this and if doesn't work, we will explore more option to have this.
If you face any issue, just restore the original file from backup.
Good luck.

Thanks for testing it mate.
Tested this feature and this will work 100% on Honor 6X on any region. Just follow the instruction mentioned in OP. I just did on BLN-L21 model (debranded today)
Just debranded from BLN-L22 to BLN-L21. Everything working fine. More details to follow soon.
For those, who were just curious to know if there will be OTA after debranding, you will get OTA after debranding without any issue. Just confirmed after debranding to BLN-L21. Got 2 updates in less than 30 minutes.
EDIT- Ignore this post. was posting in debranding guide thread but tab changed in a blink which I didnt notice.

Change to? Already mentioned a guide for the purpose
Just FYI. This guide worked, more or less, on a Huawei Enjoy 7 Plus (Nougat 7.0, Emui 5.1). Did I say "More or less"? yeah, I did.
It appeared "Aplicación gemela" new menu, just under the battery option in the settings menu ("twin app", in spanish). Problem is inside option, I only have option to replicate WeChat app. Okay, that is one of the two apps I'd like to clone (messaging app with logon based on phone number, and this phone is a 2-SIM one... personal and work). The other one is Whatsapp, also installed. But not appearing in menu for twinage.
So guide works, functionality in limited way.
Maybe it's due the mobile origin (China), the tuning I've made to it for getting gApps working (my god...), or maybe its due the whatsapp I've installed is the beta version? unsure.

Sorry, forgot to come and edit. I've already seen it. it's great info.
But in the end, Whatsapp doesn't works for me (ok, I didn't go trhough ABD but just modified XML file, whatsapp appears in menu, i can clone it, second icon appears in NOVA's app drawer, but it opens with the SAME configuration, it is not a different one... for wechat, it works)
It is no so important for me, so I'm not dedicating more time, just playing around a nice feature. If sometime in future i need it, maybe i will investigate more or use any app out there for cloning.
Thanks ^_^

No.
And... why would you need it?
Stock Bootloader Locked Phones DON'T Mess Up.
Unless you delving into areas of the device you should not be in.
ONLY ROOTED PHONES MESS UP......... PERIOD.
A user trys to do too much... goes deeper than they should... trys to delete every app off their device they think is "Bloat" with the DELUSION it's going to free up RAM and make their devices quicker.... NOT!
IT'S THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION OUT THERE.
If you insist on Rooting your device ( and there is nothing wrong with that.. after ALL the updates this Quarter are released AND.. a Full Factory Image is available to restore your device to Stock *For Free*) then go for it..
But..
Think about this.. why would you want to backup your device now? and Huawei is telling you that with the next 65 days or so the 7X is moving on to Oreo 8.0?
Why would you want a backup of an obsolete operrating system..
Do you think Oreo is going to be so bad you'll want to rollback to Nougat?
Why would I need it? To recover a bricked phone obviously.
Geez these answers.
Never mind. Please delete this post mods.
You Know What...? You're Right!

I think you're missing the point of XDA, it was founded on the idea of tweaking and messing with your device.
Anyway please stop replying.
When The Time Is Right...
Dude....
Root - Brick - Root - Brick to your hearts content.
Does not effect my world one way or the other.
I've rooted devices since 2012..
And I'll Root The Honor 7X....
WHEN IT'S TIME.
In my opinon.... Rooting Nuagat and then having to sideload EMUI 8.0 / Oreo 8.0 / Facial Unlock is a waste of time.
That's My Opinon.
Your's is different... thats cool too.
My phone runs FANTASTIC.. maybe I got a good one.. 7hrs SOT is obtained easy.. No Lag.. and over 50 of my personal apps/games run smooth as silk..
No need to root it.. for adway.. T-Backup ( why backup Nougat ? and Oreo is 65 days at most away?? ) or any other conveinence feature that rooting may afford at this time.
Nougat 7.0 is a "Lame Duck" on the Honor 7X.
But again... do your thing man... and I'll do mine.

You can use the built in backup app on EMUI. It backs up everything including ur camera settings!
It will have text messages, call logs, apps and their data, documents and so much more.
Alternatively u can use HiSuite which offers the same options but instead backs up ur device to the computer.
I personally use HiSuite and absolutely love it.

I'm going to buy OP7T, have some questions

Hey guys,
I currently have a OP5 and I always root my devices to get flawless Adblocking, theming, and google feed on OP launcher. Are these already possible on the OP7T or do we have to wait for an official TWRP? if It's possible is it safe to do?
Yeah, it is safe to do. I just got mine yesterday and fully rooted it. The best and safest tutorial is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81277507&postcount=613
If you just use any patched boot.img you'll find, it could be the wrong version (there is Europe, Global and Indian) or maybe a wrong OOS version. The safest way is to extract the boot.img yourself and let Magisk Manager patch it. These steps are very easy and took me not even 10 minutes. Also you can keep root if you're doing an OTA update. Just be sure to not reboot once it prompts you and to tell the Magisk Manager to install Magisk on the inactive slot.
Blokada does great adblocking without the need of root, as for theming and what not, I suppose you would wanna root, which isnt too hard to do

I shifted from OP5T to OP7T 4 months back, the rooting seems little different here coz of no TWRP. But there are no issues. Everything works flawless and easy like OP5.
Dont buy it you will regret your decision if you are custom rom lover
For Adblocking you do not need root. Using private DNS is enought

To add more information to my previous post,
Adways works, adblock through xposed also works, google feed through magisk works, through xposed also works. Substratum theming also works flawless.
Few Screenshots are attached.
Guys, on a side note on rooting. Are you all able to use your banking sites? I'm told they don't work well on a rooted phone
Thanks

Thank you Aswin and thank you all.
So to sum it up, everything I can do with my OP5, already works perfectly as long as I am good with tinkering my device and follow good tutorials. Except for installing ROMs which still requires TWRP to be fully compatible.
I guess I'll get it as soon as the prices go down in my country.

You can install ROMS now too, but not simple to switch between ROMs often. Since data including internal is completely erased everytime u switch ROM

That is not device specific. So far no issues with banking apps.
But according Root developer, Google is implementing new changes where it maybe possible for issues with few banking apps, some can be still spoofed to work properly. But that is not device specific.

I too have a 7T using it in the states on Verizon. I know its been asked a million times. What would I gain from being rooted?
Thanks

If you don't know, then rooting probably isn't for you. Now a days, root is becoming less and less required for certain tasks and used to be required in the days of old. When you start finding things that you're wanting to fix on the device (For me it was a proper AOD) then root might start to come up for you. But you're right, if you don't have a good reason for root, I wouldn't. I would at least leave the door open should you need/want it later.

"Back in the day" (PDA phones), I use to flash everything that came along. Same with my first few android phones, but now, I don't even bother. Stock roms are "good enough", and my phone is just a work tool. End of the day, I'm too tired to bother using it unless someone actually calls me LOL.
I'm not a total novice to rooting. When I had my Samsung Note 4, probably the last Samsung able to root easily, I was rooted. After the Note 4 I got the Note 5, then Pixel 2xl. I never felt the need with the 2xl, so I guess with the 7T I may stay stock. It's quite a phone. I do miss the pictures from the Pixel but besides that nothing else. I'm entertaining looking at the 8 pro.

also on Verizon, received my 7T, from OnePlus, on Friday, activated/unlocked/rooted on Saturday.
You gain Titanium, AdAway, AFWall+, All-in-one Toolbox, and Root Browser to access system files.

Whoa, pretty fast.
Now that you have root, what are "things" that your doing to make the phone "better. I'm purely into performance. What will it do for me?

I'm satisfied with Oxygen OS and not really interested in ROMs for now. My concern is with pre-installed apps, ad blocking, apps “phoning home”, and what's running in the background.
Titanium to freeze 7 Google apps & two others that came with the phone and can't be uninstalled, as well as 3 apps that I very rarely use but don't want to download/reinstall/set up when I do need them. In addition to sending scheduled backups to One Drive
AdAway needs root to replace the hosts file and blocks apps & browsers from reaching pretty much every ad server
App Ops to prevent apps from running at startup
Servicely to disable unnecessary background services
AFWall as a firewall to prevent apps from accessing the internet
Root Browser simply because I dislike having anything on my phone that I can't access
Since you're “purely into performance” you'll need to root in order to install tweakable custom kernels when they become available

Hello everyone! Need some help PLEASE!

I am new here and new to the custom rom scene. I am looking for some help with my new phone.
I bought a new Motorola G7 Optimo (XT1952DL) (Its about all I could afford) It came with Android 9 which is what I want. However, it auto updated itself to Android 10 which I do not want.
Android 10 has made recording phone calls, (which IS legal in my country/state, basically impossible. I need this feature more than any other feature I can think of right now.
I have been told that downgrading back to Android 9 is not possible. I am wondering a couple things and I hope someone here will be kind enough to help Me.
1. Does anyone know of any way (paid app or otherwise) on Android 10 that I can record my calls, non speaker phone, without alerting the other party they are being recorded? (Again I live in a 1 party state which means I dont have to inform the other person I am recording and for obvious reasons I would like them to not know because I feel like this will either make them just lie, hang up, block my calls, or something similar.)
2. If this is no longer possible on Android 10 does anyone know how to downgrade to Android 9 and make it so that my phone will not automatically install Android 10 on its own?
3. If neither is possible for whatever reason, I would be interested in using a custom rom that would allow this feature and possibly add more features. The problem is that I dont know which is the best rom or how to install a custom rom, although I am very good with computers, so a little hand holding would be necessary.
** Not sure if this is allowed but I would be willing to donate a small tip in USD via paypal or something if someone could successfully help Me with this task. Call recording is something I feel should be standard as anyone can just simply lie to You or scam You on the phone and without proof You are kinda screwed.
- Thanks for any help, suggestions, etc. I hope this is a good community to help Me with my problem. - Regards

The device might be downgradable but you would need to unlock the bootloader.
Or there maybe a root option with the bootloader unlocked.

Well ...
Well the software Lenovo Rescue and Smart Assistant did in fact wipe and reset my phone to "factory" but it kept Android 10 eventhough it shipped with Android 9 so basically it didnt work.
If I loaded my phone with Cynogen (sp) or something similar that is based off Android 9 would that work? If so do You know of a link to a tutorial on installing that or have a recommendation on which to use?
- Thanks!

No lmsa will not downgrade firmware.
Factory reset only wipes user data it doesn't change firmware.

If you want to downgrade firmware you need to use
RSD Lite or fastboot.exe and bootloader will need to be unlocked before downgrade.
