So we dont have good gcam? - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

The only thing we have is Hass and the redmi5plus versions?
They have terrible front cam...
(I'm not talking about back cam)

That's because this phone has an awful front sensor that only performs "well" in extremely bright conditions.

It's a budget device after all, considering the price it isn't that bad.

If you bought a phone to take selfies... Nevermind...

Camera quality is great on any OxygenOS ROM. Front selfie cam also is very clear and well designed. Love it so far after a month or so of usage.

I agree but i think that for a flagship is a shame the absence of front flash...Nowadays all phones have it!

Uh ... very few 'flagship' phones have a front flash, even today. I'd have preferred a dual tone REAR flash ... but meh, it still works.
I'll admit it, the dog is really tough to get in a photo without blur. He doesn't sit still much. But I like this one.

For me the lack of dual tone flash isnt a big deal, as I rarely use the flash even in low light conditions.
They should have done the front flash the same way as Snapchat did it, making the screen go bright white while taking the picture.

I agree. It's a simple software trick, and LG used it on the G4 as well.
I've found the selfie quality to be really good.
you really have to keep it steady otherwise it'll not be a nice picture. because you see every little movement later on.

Guys I get really noisy selfies at even moderate indoor lighting.. Shooting upto 1500 to 5000iso..any problem with my device???
Also the general selfie quality is lesser than my g4 in good lighting too the background subjects r blurry.. I'm on 3.2.6 is it a firmware issue

They can still do this, right? Isn't it software-based?
Whenever i try to take group selfies, the front subject(person holding the phone) comes out sharp and others at the back are blurred out. Why?? Are you guys facing the same problem? Please help

What? Its not a joke. Just go through threads over here/OnePlus forums about camera quality.
here is one: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/op3-camera-blurry-after-post-processing-oos-3-2-7.470510/
And that is for rear cam too. Selfie cam is the worst.
I don't know about the issues you all are facing, but for me my OP3 has one the best front facing cameras. Whenever we are out in a group, they always borrow my phone. 17.3 GB out of the 54GB is all selfies.

It doesnt matter. But no, the quality shouldnt be influenced by that, though. :good:

I am very impress by the selfie quality...it comes with some nice little neat features that I have come to enjoy....if you use snapchat camera, you will feel right at home. Honor is aiming to attract the "younger" generations and the selfie camera does JUST that. But hey, if you are not into smoothing out those wrinkles, shrinking your cheeks, making your eyes "pop" and detect your "good" side, a simple snap will be just fine.

The front facing selfie camera is OK. I wouldn't say that it's the best selfie camera that I have seen on a mobile device. But then again most flagship selfie camera sensors aren't very good ether.

Low light

At the club, at the bar, or just in your mom's basement, nighttime is when you come out to play. Rate this thread to express how the OnePlus 3T's camera performs when no or low light is present. A higher rating indicates that the camera sensor "sees" lots of light in dim conditions, and that the resulting photos have minimal noise. A higher rating also indicates that when the flash fires, the resulting photo is evenly-lit without any bright spots.

Blurry images, all the time, totally unacceptable. Using OS 3.2.8
Rated 4, you need to know how to take the best shot. Not exactly the point and shoot but otherwise with manual controls it's really good.

auto, HQ mode, as you can see both shots are handheld as per my shadow on the lower right of the 1st picture.
HQ modes gives cleaner output than manual except if ISO is 100 but we need tripod for that because we need also longer exposure which I believed OIS can't handle longer than 1/3s due to handshakes
Another night shot test after installing the new Oxygen OS 4.0.3 with improved camera in low light.

Try manual mode.
In low light use hq mode for better pictures.
And look on the lens if it's dirty.

The camera could use an upgrade in software. Blurry and noisy images in low light. But no issues in manual mode.

Nope no OIS. But it hands down has the best EIS I've ever seen on a phone. In both photo and video modes it stabilizes REALLY well.
Edit: short clip from someone else on YouTube of stabilization. This is even at 4k recording which most phones with EIS won't do (they usually limit EIS to 1080p only)

The built in camera software isn't great, but the phone is in the upper echelon of photo quality when you use Gcam
The IMX586 is easily top 2 or 3 camera sensors out there when paired with good software.
I really, don't think so. It is from my ROG2.

Which version of gcam u using
Yeah idk what you're on about. The camera is above average at worst. It's not the best, nor close, but it's at least a 7/10.
Pictures at full resolution (48MP) is honestly crap due to the fact that at that resolution, the camera doesnt support HDR+ for some reason.
At 12MP however, the pictures are above average IMO

Possible to take better photos with ASUS Rog Phone 2

I came across a video on YouTube which shows how we can take better photos with the Rog Phone 2 using the Google Camera.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I've seen several of these comparisons, and I often prefer the stock camera images over the Gcam images. The ones of the toy car and phone in that video are prime examples.
I suggest learning manual controls. Even if you don't use it in normal shooting, understanding what's going on with settings will help you take better photos. Remember, only you know what kind of photo you want, not some random programmer that never met you. Because of that, auto modes can be hit and miss, and understanding manual controls will allow you to quickly adjust for those times auto mode isn't working for you.

OIS is over-hyped anyway for a phone. The range of motion to correct isn't very big with such a small sensor. I've seen a test video of the electronic stabilization, and it worked extremely well.

From https://www.blog.google/products/pixel/see-light-night-sight/
If your subject moves during the capture, Night Sight can adapt to prevent a modest amount of motion from ruining the shot. Instead of capturing one bright and blurry photo, Night Sight captures an equal amount of light over a burst of many photos that are dark but sharp. By merging this burst, Night Sight prevents motion blur and brightens the photo, giving you a bright and sharp photo.

My V20 has it and I can get maybe a notch slower shutter speed than without. Not much difference. If it was something like Pentax's full frame DSLR, that gives 5 stops of shake reduction, that would be a big difference.
