Wifi speed problem - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

After the last pie update, wifi speed is not good enough.
When i test speed with oakla, its almost 5mbits. If i turn off location, everything is normal. If i turn on location wifi speed is getting worse. There was no problem at oreo. Is there any solution about that problem?

Do you have bluetooth on? I found out that when m bluetooth is on, WiFi conwction ia really bad. This os only on pie.
Check out my thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/help/bluetooth-wifi-conflict-pie-update-t3883829

I've the same problem here...
WiFi + localization on = slow wifi performance 5/7 mbits
WiFi + localization off = normal wifi performance 50/55 mbits
The problem is after pie update.

there is no difference after February 19 update. that is terrible. shame on Xiaomi

For me, it seems as the problem is not localization but Bluetooth. When I turn off bluetooth, it's normal speed and when Bluetooth is on, it drops to incredibly slow speed. Altough localization might interfere with it, because it uses Bluetooth, I don't think it's the root cause.
Also, it is not only the speed between a router and the Mi A2 Lite that is slow, but also the connection from Mi A2 Lite as hotspot to any other connected device.

For me this issue all resolved when I installed a new router at home. I know this isn't a proper solution but if you have a backup router, give it a try.

After bluetooth is off,i have fast wifi, when bluetooth is on wifi is slow speed.

Some news about a soluzion? I have same problem.

For me the only solution is to use 5GHZ wifi.

For me, it appears to happen when I use both. I used to have always localization on and bt off but recently I bought a mi band I that forced me to enable bt aswell. Wifi speeds decreased a lot since that. Now I tested and with only one of them off it works great but with both, it doesn't.

You on stock ROM, and what version?
On Android Pie (stock, at least), it is a known problem that turning on Bluetooth or GPS will decrease WiFi connectivity and also some users reported that it will decrease Internet speed too. Hopefully Android 10 and / or incoming updates will fix it but this is Xiaomeme were talikng about, and Xiaomeme + AndroidOne = bugs and Xiaomeme's 'don't care' attitude.

I tested mine. Wifi speed stayed same when i connect my Mi Band 4.
But Bluetooth increases the Ping.

WIFI speeds when bluetooth on/off

So I got my 5x last week (comming from N5) and I noticed that websites and apps such as twitter and facebook load very slow over wifi. I did a little research and rooted my phone multiple speedtests and figured out that there is some issue where wifi speeds are slow but if you turn bluetooth on they speed up. so i tested this and its true. it does not seem to affect speedtests but it does speed up normal browsing and app performance a lot. i noticed with bluetooth off im getting about (5-6Mb/s) and with bluetooth on im getting around 50-60Mb/s (my connection is 60Mb/s).
my question is does anybody know whats going on here? And is there a way of fixing it?
I dont have any issues with my wifi reception or wifi speeds. No change with BT on or off. On the contrary my wifi speeds and reception are the best I had with with N5X than with any device before. I have two Huawei routers, 20Mbps connection and both are on 2,5GHz bands.

HI All!
I have also the same problem, but when WiFI& BT working togheter - there is no issue.....Normally, I am connected Huawei E5372 ( mobile router ). Today I connected my Nexus 5x to another router and unexpectedly...problem's gone!
It looks like Nexus 5x's radio have some compatibilty issues with some routers.
I hope Google will find&fix this bug ASAP!

Yes I also tried switching routers and it seems to resolve the issue. So I think you might be right in thinking the 5x having issues with some router radios

Max. WiFi Speed / WiFi extremely slow MIUI 8

Hi,
first of all i am on MIUI 8 (8.1.5 Global Stable) and my Wifi seems to be really slow. Sometimes i got only 1 MBps with a speedtest although i'm on a 75MBit internet connection behind the wifi router. Most of the time i reach about 8MBit and sometimes 35MBit.
The problem occured on 8.1.3 the first time and i flashed 8.1.5 via TWRP and started from scratch (wiped) but it remains the same. Maybe it's a hardware defect.
Anyway - Could you do a speedtest and tell me which connection you have and which max bandwidth you can achieve with the Mi Max?
Also i considered flashing just a new radio, because TWRP update doesn't flash radio.
So could you tell me what version is the current baseband (radio)? Just check in Phone Information. I would really appreciate to know if there is a newer radio and how to flash it safely (phone is officially unlocked).
Thank you

To begin, I advise you to test your wi-fi on several different devices. If only Mi Max will have a bad rate, then it is necessary to look for the problem and if all devices have the same speed of the Internet, the problem is in the router.
5ghz or 2.4ghz is your router using?
I also has this issue. and i found out that it happens only with specific routers (like i have in my home).
I think that i found a workaround for my home - i use Xiaomi mi adapter as a repeater and connect to it and it works much faster..
Other phones on the same network don't have the problem.

Nope,
I meant Xiaomi WIFI Repeater Amplifier: 7-8$
http://xiaomi-mi.com/mi-wifi/xiaomi-mi-wifi-amplifier/
yes correct i am using that mi wifi extender it works great but need to configure it under mi home app
My version is 8.2.5.0 and my WiFi is slow!! It takes time to play even 144p videos in youtube .
Why it is slow ?? And what is the solution ??
I have the same problem. But I have slow DL rates at any wifi router, and also LTE. Changed many ROMs and the problem persist.
i think im having same problem.. im getting 2.8MB/s on a 100Mb network.
Speed in 4g data mode is working fine.. the problem is on wifi only.
The Wi-Fi does seem slower than other phones. I'm on MIUI 10 8.8.9 eu ROM and the maximum I can get connected to an Asus AC68 router is ~150Mb, whereas my Galaxy Note 4 does ~250Mb over the same 5Ghz 400Mb connection.

I have this same problem did you ever find a solution? Did you get a new router, cause that is were am at right now.
Yes, fixed when I did official ROM update via OTA to MIUI10 and now MIUI11. With the same router I got 300Mbps.
I have recently upgraded the router to the Asus AC86U but only for better 5Ghz range for all my devices. The slow issue was definitely the phoned software.

Wifi, BT and poor coverage drain my battery

Hi, I have the nexus 5x since Oct 2016.
With wifi, BT or poor coverage, y consumption is high. Minimum of 1,5%/hour. With mobile data 0,2%/hour. Perhaps with poor coverage is normal, but I don't understand why it happens with Wifi (At home (2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz) and at work (5Ghz)). I have tested multiples cases.
I have had 7.0 (stock), 7.1(stock), 7.1.2 (Dev), without root and with root + (Franco kernel or ElementalX kernel) + naptime. I have desactivate Wifi scaning on location. I never see the flat line in battery graph with Wifi.
I use the app "gsam battery" to see the battery graph. The kernel and Android system are the first app suckers, I think it's normal. I don't see anthing unusual in battery graph. The mobile go to sleep mode correctly.
What would be the problem? What new tests I can do?
Thanks
Question: Are you using Project Fi, or any other carrier that allows for WiFi calling/texting?
To clarify: I don't think Project Fi is the culprit, but I may have a solution that I've been testing.
A common complaint that goes back to my N5 running Kit Kat. The fix was to force the device to only use 2.4Ghz Wifi, however since 7.0 Google has removed that option.
Changing router's or updating the router firmware has helped some in the past but not for me.
Does your device Doze properly on a mobile data connection also? And does wifi occasionally idle properly, say when switching back and forth between wifi and cell data? That's the case for me currently, and you know something's wrong when a 3G connection idles better than Wifi.
I'm not using Project Fi, or any other carrier that allows for WiFi calling. My carrier is vodafone, a normal carrier.
I have tested a router with 2.4Ghz only, but the problem persists.
Doze works correctly with mobile data connection and Wifi. I can see the mobile go to sleep mode correctly in both cases.
But in idle mode, wifi use a 1.5%/hour and mobile data 0.2%/hour, but I don't see nothings strange in the graphs or stadistics.
What I can I try?

Ya sounds exactly like the issue I was describing. The fix used to be to force the device to only pick up 2.4Ghz connections but Google took the option away ever since 7.0. Being on a network they only transmits 2.4Ghz doesn't help as the device is still listening to and picking up 5Ghz signals.
There is no known fix that I'm aware of. I don't think Google considers it their problem, they would likely say it's a router compatibility issue and tell us to upgrade our router firmware.

WiFi incredibly slow

Anyone else have SUPER slow WiFi speeds when it comes to downloading? I know this phone only supports 2.5ghz WiFi but it really shouldn't be this slow. My download speeds are like 4mb/s. Keep in mind that I'm using the Huawei Mate SE but I'm on the Indian Honor 7x stock ROM. I'm not sure if that makes a difference since the wifi antenna is a hardware thing.

Try turning Bluetooth off if you have it on. I read that Bluetooth and wifi use the same antenna in the 7x, and that can cause wifi to be slow if Bluetooth is on.

Change your router 2.4 channel width auto or 20/40 MHz to 20 MHz only. That has improved the WiFi speed on my wife’s 7x.

I noticed this on my Mate SE too...I do use Bluetooth for my Huawei Watch, so I have to leave it on. One thing you can try that may or may not make a difference is turning off Bluetooth scanning. Seemed to fix my Moto G5s with the same issue, but not so much for my Mate SE

I use Bluetooth for my Pebble watch. Do you mean turning off scanning specifically or Bluetooth as a whole?
EDIT: I found the Bluetooth scanning toggle and switched it off. I'll see if that changes anything when I get home

Anyone else having WiFi randomly disconnect and reconnect?

I just got this phone yesterday and so far I just cannot get it to stay connected to my network. No other devices are having this problem. It basically just seems to constantly connect and disconnect from the wifi and also seems to constantly search for other connections as well. I've tried factory reset, cache clearing(which never works as it just red triangle error's me), reset the router, tried to change settings in phone itself but nothing seems to fix it and it's making it impossible to use at home. Anyone have any suggestions?
Same thing here. I went in and turned off all the wifi in battery power saving exclusions. Ain't been home long enough to try though.
I'm having this same issue! My prior daily (S9+) didn't have this issue, and my Pixel 2XL doesn't have this issue. I could be right next to the router and it still does this. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm at home, work, parents house, or a cafe, it still randomly loses connection. Same with my Gear S3. Just randomly loses connection. It's pretty annoying, and I hope they offer a software fix. Yes, I factory reset the phone and it still occurs.
I noticed this only with the 5 GHz band... I will contact LG about it today...
Yeah, I'm having the same issue. My router broadcasts both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz on the same SSID. Last I'd heard, Android wouldn't connect to 5 GHz in that circumstance, and my G7 appears to continue that trend.
But it still disconnects from the network all the time.
Sadly I have the same issue. I have different SSID for 2.4 and 5Ghz band, and as devil_tear says it's fails only with the 5ghz band. I did a factory reset but issue stills there.
Did you found a fix for this issue?
Had the same problem. Solved by enabling wifi on the battery saving power exclusions in the battery menu.

Thanks a lot for this tip.
Had the same problem, was burning through my 4G data at a rate much faster than on my Google Pixel.
So far, adding wifi to the power saving exclusion has seemed to fix the issue. Thank you!
PS: Does any else find the wifi signal on this phone is weak?

Great suggestion
Tried the suggestion here for adding WiFi to exclusion. WiFi on 5ghz still disconnects and reconnects every few seconds. Only way to keep it connected is putting it on 2.4ghz.
Tried the suggestion with reboots, factory reset, adding WiFi to exclusion and then connecting to the network. My g7 will just not work with it.

Have seen this also, in my case it happens when I am a bit far from the router, it may be the router not having a strong stable connection so the phone see it doesn't have internet. In the points I experience that I have a 5Ghz connection of 0-2Mb but I have maybe 2 bars of connection. Share your opinions to try to understand the problems.

For me I would say it happens more if I have 2-3 bars but nonetheless it happens even 3ft away from the router eventually. what's odd is my note 5 stays connected, my computer, and other phone stay connected on the 5ghz band. All these devices are in the same location so I'm pretty dumbfounded especially considering this is a newer phone than the note 5 lol. I hope it can be fixed with an ota update

I have the same issues. I sent back the first phone for a replacement thinking it was the issue. When the second phone arrived it was working perfectly and then it happened again.
I noticed this happened after I took whatever software update was offered. I went as far to switch providers with different equipment (fibe to cable) but same result.
Made specific 2.4ghz SSID for LG G7 and no issues.
I've never seen this happen. And my laptop and LG are using the same 5 ghz signal.
I think I remember the G6 doing this though

Just came back from my dad's house and I know it's a short test, however he has an Archer a7 connected after his dedicated provided box. I wonder if that can fix the issue?
I have the same issue.
it connects to 2.4Ghz networks fine but the range is very limited when I move to another room wifi reception decreases a lot. However my wife`s S9+ and my oneplus 6 works fine.
Main problem is when I connect to 5Ghz network it starts disconnecting and reception is even worse than 2.4Ghz. S9 and Oneplus connection is still fine at 5Ghz
I tried to change the 5ghz channels on the router but no luck and I exclude the WIFI from battery saving apps still didn`t work.
I have to use 2.4Ghz and the reception is not as good as other phones
Wifi seems stable for me, except wifi calling. That would crash at connection or even mid-call sometimes. I'd have to reboot to make or receive another call. Some sort of server error. Turned off wifi calling and no issues yet. Didn't notice Ed it anyway since 4g is really strong here.
After the newest update on my phone, taken today Oct 4th, 2018/my random WiFi disconnects haven't been happening at all on 5ghz. Also, the signal is about 3 bars larger now in the same location it used to be dropping out constantly. Hopefully it stays this way.

I was coming in to report something similar. I've got the US T-Mo version and just got the G710TM10K update yesterday.
WiFi stability has massively improved. Disconnects are almost completely nonexistent now. I haven't noticed that the signal bar is behaving any differently, but that doesn't mean a whole lot. The update was fairly large (over 400 MB), so I could see new firmware playing a role.
Could anyone still on G710TM10G post their data from Software Info to check if the baseband has been updated? Here's mine from 10K:
