Issues with apps over WiFi after upgrading to Android 9 - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

Hi. At the start of December, I upgraded my Mi A2 Lite to Android 9 and ever since then I have been facing issues with a few apps over WiFi. The following apps are being affected:
- YouTube
- Twitter
- Facebook
- WhatsApp
- Chrome
*These issues are only on my WiFi. On 4G or any other WiFi these issues don't happen*
The issue with Facebook and Twitter is the same. Both won't load any new feed and behave as if my WiFi is not turned on. YouTube only works at times, other times it would just keep loading and nothing would happen. Sending images or videos on WhatsApp is impossible now. It even has troubles making the backup to Google Drive on my WiFi. As for Chrome the issue is that sometimes even though WiFi is turned on, it would not load any page and just say that I'm not connected to internet. I've been reading other people's threads online and even emailed Xiaomi and Google. I tried the steps (hardware test etc) as told in the email by Xiaomi but that has not helped. Some said that using WiFi and Bluetooth at the same time caused this issue but I have used WiFi with bluetooth turned off yet the issue is still there. Now if this was a WiFi issue then I would have contacted my provider but with the same WiFi connection I have not faced a single issue on any other mobile devices and laptops. As for my WiFi I can't seem to change it from ipv6 to ipv4 (or I just don't know how to). If anybody has faced this issue and knows how to solve it then please help, It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Have you tried disabling Bluetooth and then reconnecting to the WiFi in question? Having both enabled at the same time causes WiFi speed transfers to be really bad, it's an already reported Pie bug.

Btw, can u see 5ghz wifi networks?
Cause i can and have same problem with slow wifi+bluetooth

Yes I have turned Bluetooth off and used WiFi like that but the issue is still there with all the apps mentioned

Any update on this? I'm having the same issue. Using a VPN seems to solve the problem but the connection is slower.

I am facing the same problem on my A2 lite Android One Pie. Even the further upgrades including March upgrade did not resolve the issue. It really sucks.
Has anyone found any solution?
Is MI even concerned or acknowledges the issue?
Is there a way to go back to Android 8?

Hello Dear Sajid Abid,
Good Day !
1st Remember One Thing. Downgrade Is Not A Easy Task, Downgrading Has Also A SIM Issue Problem,.But If You Still Want To Go Back Your Mobile Device From Pie To Oreo You Need To Unlock The Boot-Loader (Off-Course Unlocking Boot-Loader Will Void Warranty) Then Download Stock Oreo (From MIUI Forum) And Flash It With The Help Of IMFlash Tool. After Successfully Ported The Stock Oreo Rom You Can Close The Boot-Loader.
All Instructions/Steps Can Be Easily Found On A2 Lite Forum.
Here Is The Link Which Can Help For Resolving SIM Issue Problem.

Have A Nice Day.

Wifi Issue

I've just recently bought the Canvas A1 and I don't know whether other people are facing this issue but my Wifi sometimes doesn't detect my router... after scanning/refreshing a few times, it then detects it.
No issue however with the other mobile which I am using.

Yes even I am facing this issue.
And I have also read this on many of the amazon review.
Thinking that Google might soon release a fix.
Currently either I need to turn off the phone to start the WiFi or I press the airplane mode and then it works.
I really do hope google fixes it cuz I think its a driver issue.
I've downloaded a third party wifi scanner app called wieye and this app seems to detect the network properly.
Thnx for the reply tho... now I dnt feel lonely
Wifi issue
Good to know that some folks are talking about wifi issue that I noticed too. I have been hunting Google to find reasons but no luck. Only solution that I could try was to re-bounce phone. Wifi is not detected after continuous usage for like 8-10 hours and the it goes in vein. Sad part is that you will have to check phone to know that it has gone offline. Looks software bug to me but giving that Android L is round the corner the bug should automatically be taken care, I doubt there is going to be Kitkat fix for it anyway....

Android Pie problems?

So, I bought the mi a2 lite as a gift for someone - it looks like a nice phone and it comes with android one which is a bonus. However, when testing the phone to see if it worked - it did a 'security' update but then upgraded it from android 8.1 to android pie (9.0). I have seen many threads with problems relating to android pie on this phone. Should I try and downgrade it back to android 8.1 or leave it on android pie?
What possible problems are there for the a2 lite on android pie?
For 10.0.3.0 compilation, in my case;
*Lack of bluetooth audio streaming codecs (sbc only)
*Some problems with WiFi ipv6 only. Forced ipv4 works like a charm.
*Slower WiFi while Bluetooth/GPS is ON. Probably because everything is using 2.4GHz band.

Is forced ipv4 on the phone, or in router settings? Also what kind of encryption does your WiFi use?
ipv4 in router. I am using WPA/WPA2 mixed.
Mi A2 Lite after Pie update is my only device having problems with my Router/AP

Yea I got one for my MIL and her wifi wasn't working so I have to figure out how to fix it until Xiaomi does. Now I just need to hope I can access her router menus. Thanks for the info.

I saw that thread. It looks different than her problem because it looks like people have WiFi, but specific apps don't have connection. Her wifi doesn't connect at all.

The strangest thing: I just bought one of these. During startup it connected to my wifi, then made the Pie upgrade and wouldn't connect to my wifi again afterwards.
I've then tried back and forth with wifi security settings and found out that:
1) it works without wifi security
2) it works with WPA only (before it was WPA/WPA2-mixed)
This is the first device in our home with such an issue with our Wifi. Very troublesome....

I think you have to do a factory reset ,but backup your stuff on your pc , i had troubles to ,after going from Oreo to Pie, after resetting, everything works great, no issues with wifi at all, don't know about bluetooth because i don't use wifi and bluetooth at the same time

I did a couple of factory resets to no avail. Since I found a fine workaround, I won't do more about it.
Otherwise the phone is nice, the only other problem being the "double tap to wake" feature which wakes my phone in my pocket and driving me insane.

Just for reference, the double-tap-to-wake feature depends on the hardware build.
I've seen several of these phones bought in UK and none had this "feature"

[SOLVED] Please Help - WiFi Frequently Disconnecting in Android Pie ROMs

The WiFi on my phone disconnects for about 2 seconds (every 15 minutes or so) for no reason at all. I have the same problem on EVERY single Android Pie ROM such as Lineage, Pixel Experience, AOSiP, AEX, etc. When the phone is in sleep mode the Wi-Fi will NOT reconnect, which means I constantly miss important notifications such as messages from friends. Also, when watching YouTube I keep seeing a message pop up saying 'Back Online' due to the WiFi disconnecting.
I have seen a couple of people on the forums with the same issue, but a solution has not yet been found. I know this is NOT a problem with my home broadband because I don't experience the same WiFi dropouts on other devices.
If anyone knows a solution to this problem, or just has a suggestion, PLEASE let me know as I would REALLY appreciate it.

Hi. Thanks for the response. I will keep that in mind, I can't remember whether I tried Carbon ROM before.
However I have to think this problem is related to something more specific than just ROM, because if this problem was present on all installations of these popular ROMs like Lineage, AEX and Pixel Experience (as I have tested in my own experience) then we would likely see a lot more complaints about it on the forums. So I think the issue is related to something to do with a certain setting or configuration.
It is a VERY frustrating problem because I can't leave my phone for 15 minutes without it disconnecting from WiFi and loosing access to notifications.
Not that this will help but in the past I had issues with Samsung OEM ROMs I flashed using ODIN (equivalent to our QFIL) a firmware from another country and for some reason even though technically my phone WAS compatible, I would have similar results to yours. If I were you I would back up all your data and try a few different QFIL to see if you have any luck. I flashed the LATEST QFIL (not using miflash etc) and have never had any issues with my zuk

Thanks for that. I agree it might be the cause of the issue, something like what you describe. It would make sense because I have only found 2 other people on XDA with the same issue, and the problem happens on every ROM I have tried. I have owned the ZUK Z2 since 2016 and only now, in these past 2-3 months, am I experiencing these problems with Wi-Fi disconnecting.
From what I can see the latest QPST is 3.5.389 ST, so I will try flashing that next week (once I'm back from vacation) and see what happens!

Well, I tried flashing the 3.5.389 ST QPST and then flashing LineageOS 16.0 on top of that, but the problem is still the same. Wi-Fi disconnects for a few seconds whilst using the device, and also whilst the device is in sleep mode. Except when it disconnects in sleep mode, it will NOT reconnect meaning I miss all kinds of notifications until I manually check my device.
The frustrating thing is I don't know for sure whether it's something to do with my home broadband or router. But all of my other devices (such as Windows laptop) STAY connected at the same time my ZUK looses connection. So I have to assume it is software-related on the ZUK.
If I can't solve this soon I will just go out and buy a new phone. I can't deal with missing important notifications. It is sad because I really liked this phone and have kept it for 2½ years. I don't understand why this problem suddenly started because it was fine before.

After you flashed the QPST did you boot into the rom and try using oem zuk to see if it resolved your issue? Apparently that fixes quite a few problems but requires actually booting into the rom. If you flashed an official QTSP using deep flash (not miflash) anf it STILL has that problem then it must be internal hardware. Guessing you have tried connecting to someone elses wifi and it does the same?

Thanks. Well, sometimes I visit a relatives house where I can connect to a different router, but usually I am not there long enough to test whether the phone stays connected. But in response to your other question, I did boot into the ZUI ROM after flashing the QPST. But I didn't test to see whether the problem persisted because I hate ZUI and could never use it on a daily basis when there are other, much better stock Android-like ROMs available.
I was in contact with someone else on XDA who had the EXACT same problem and he suggested trying the latest build of AEX which seemed to solve the issue for him. So currently I'm trying that but I haven't had enough time to test it, yet. So far I have not noticed the phone disconnecting but it has only been about 1 hour since I flashed the ROM. I will know more after a few days of testing.
Switching to AEX made no difference. Still no success despite wiping entire device and flashing stock ROM with QFIL. I have tried almost every Android Pie ROM including LineageOS, AEX, AOSiP and Pixel Experience. I also changed channel on my broadband router. Nothing works.

Then it may be a hardware problem, the antenna wires can be disconnected or damaged. Have you tried a stock Rom?
@1qazwsx4 @bordi21
After an entire year of this problem, I have FINALLY found a solution to my phone disconnecting whilst on home Wi-Fi. Turns out it is nothing to do with the phone or custom ROMs...
In the router settings there is an option called 'Enable IPv6 on LAN side' that is checked by default. I unticked this and now my phone is able to hold connection flawlessly!

WiFi Connected but no internet

Hi all, I've search some pages on this forum but I was not able to find a solution for this problem.
The issue is very simple, I use my phone, no issues with WiFi, I leave it for a while and when try to use it again the WiFi is connected but I get no internet.
This issue happens sporadically.
I have updated to MIUI 12 from MIUI 11 and the issue persist.
Turning on and off WiFi fix it, but that is just a partial solution.
I am using the 5G antena, so it has nothing to do with the BT interference (which I turned off just in case, with no results)
Any suggestions, are most welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Greetings,
I have the same issue with my home LAN settings, but I don't think it is a problem with the phone because it can connect without any kind of issues to some other wifi networks.
Home I am using a few Wifi Extenders to control my coverage better, and I am pretty sure the problem relies here simply because I do not get the proper IP when that happens.
In my case I get this problem when I first reconnect the network and have to either switch to an other Wifi network 1 or 2 times or turn off back on.
So if you are using the same kind of out of the ordinary settings, it may be the problem you are facing too.
Let us know.
Regards,
Hi, thanks for your reply.
My home network had only 1 router and no extenders.
I've heard that many had this issue but I never found a solid solution for it.
A few weeks ago I updated my Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite to Miui 12.5.3 EU from 12.0.10 EU and had this problem (i.e. wifi claims to be connected, but no internet access).
Yesterday morning I flashed the phones modem image NON-HLOS.bin (via flashboot from the 12.0.7 ROM which had no problems and it *seems* to maintain the connection now. Well, it has for the past 36 hours. Previously this problem was happening almost hourly. Time will tell...
Edit: Grr...spoke too soon. Has happened twice this evening.
(with NON-HLOS.bin in the fastboot directory I used fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin )
