January Security Patch - Full Bezel in Display Settings - Nokia 7.1 Guides, News, & Discussion

With the January Security patch i have noticed that the option to hide the notch was moved from the developer options menu to the Display settings under the Advanced drop-down. I think functionally is exactly the same which means it has some weird bugs. It was gonna be better if the notification bar was black only for portrait mode and not for landscape as it looks strange most of the time ( it is semitransparent usually) and also when I use gcam and view the images in the gallery the bottom icons are overlapped by the navigation bar.

They haven't fixed any bugs. Performance is still the same. I'm not happy.

Sorry i was referring to notch hiding specific bugs and not the hole January patch it self. For now this is the only visible change i found with the patch.

Notch control for the Pixel 3 XL

The Essential PH1 had this function where you can control the notch per application. Anyone know if Google is planning to do this on the Pixel 3 XL? It's nowhere to be found even in the dev options. Not sure if the November update has anything new (didn't get the update yet).
Not per app but you can "hide" the notch by moving the notification bar down below the notch and that screen area is just black. Pixel doesn't have the option to make the bar black always and keep the icons up there like other phones do.

Nacho Notch does that.
Question about "Hide Cutout"...when you turn this on, does it simply just turn that area black or does it turn off the pixels so it prevents burn in?

Yeah I know about that option. I wanted to see if we can somehow control it per app. That way, we don't lose all the screen real estate when you play certain games.

[UPDATE][STOCK][PIE][v072][WW SKU] Digital Wellbeing included & few bugs are fixed.

[UPDATE][STOCK][PIE][v072][WW SKU] Digital Wellbeing included & few bugs are fixed.
Finally, Asus managed to give us Digital Wellbeing. I installed it in my phone which has WW SKU and here are some changes or improvements which I noticed.
Bugs fixed in v066
1) Digital Wellbeing is pre-installed.
2) Power button icon in dark mode was black. Now they've fixed it.
3) Brightness bar bug. It has been fixed.
4) New icon for FM Radio app. The UI hasn't changed though.
5) They've fixed the vibration intensity. It was too low before.
6) The black screen bug when you swipe up the lock screen is fixed.
7) No more low volume in headphones.
Bugs fixed in v067
1) The network indicator icons in the status bar were misaligned. It has been fixed.
2) Finally, the front camera beauty mode bug in which the photos taken in front camera were softening the areas below the eyes, has been fixed.
3) New boot animation. (Well, it's just for Indians. They've changed the text "Zenfone" to "ASUS" logo while booting. Because of copyright infringement. There's another file inbootanimation.zip apart from bootanimation.zip in /system/media/)
Bugs fixed in v069
1) NFC issue has been fixed.
Bugs fixed in v070
1) They had removed Widevine L1 in v069. Now it has been restored.
2) Weird animation when switching from landscape mode to portrait mode has been fixed. But the ghost notch hasn't been fixed. The notch appears for a micro second and disappears when you open or exit a game which runs in landscape mode.
Bugs fixed in v072
1) The misaligned battery icon in the statusbar is fixed.
Here are some bugs.
1) The very old ugly bottom display corners is back. It seems they couldn't fix the ghost notch issue and hence disabled the image overlay used to round the bottom corners and the notch.
2) The statusbar width is smaller in landscape mode and hence you can see the notch popping out.
2) Network upload/download activity arrow icons in status bar should be disabled when the device is not connected to mobile data and should be enabled only when particular sim's mobile data is enabled. So that some space can be saved for other status bar icons like alarm. (This is an old bug)
I'll update this thread if I find new improvements or bugs. If you find any, do comment.

Installation instructions:
Case 1: If you are using stock recovery
1) Make sure you have another copy of official update zip file. This is important. Because if updating fails, it corrupts the update zip file and you'll have to download the zip file again. It happened to me. Luckily I had saved a copy in my laptop which saved my time and bandwidth.
2) Copy the update zip file to the root of your phone's memory. Not inside any folder. It should detect an update and you'll get a notification. If not, reboot the phone. It'll detect.
Case 2: If you're using custom recoveries like TWRP, OFRP or PBRP
1) Make sure you have another copy of official update zip file. In case if something goes wrong, you don't have to download it again.
2) Use 7-Zip and navigate to META-INF\com\google\android\ inside the zip file. There you'll see a file named "updater-script". Drag and drop it to convenient folder. Edit and delete the lines above this line using Notepad++ and save it. (The text in red depends on the build number of every update)
Code:
ui_print("Target: Android/sdm660_64/sdm660_64:[COLOR="Red"]9/PKQ1/16.2017.1906.067-20190703[/COLOR]:user/release-keys");
3) After deleting those lines, drag and drop it back to the same folder in 7-Zip and overwrite it. Copy the edited update zip file to your phone and flash it using custom recovery. Use PBRP or OFRP to flash the update zip if you want to disable forced encryption.
I have a question. Is your device certified in the Play store after updating?
I have this bug where if you out your phone to landscape mode you get a second notch.
Some pixel 3xl devices suffered from this bug back in October. Now dear Asus has enabled an extra notch for us.
Not everybody has the bug, but if you have it its permanent in landscape mode.
Clearing cache does nothing.

In my case, the rounded corners vanish if my device goes to landscape mode. That's why I don't have this pseudo notch permanently. It does occur sometimes. I have mentioned in OP how to reproduce this pseudo notch bug. This pseudo notch is nothing but a png image they use to round the bottom corners. It's not supposed to rotate with the display. But in this 066 build, it's rotating and causing that pseudo notch bug.

Using a png image. Rofl that looks like a lazy job. Isnt there a better way to achieve this ?

You read my mind. Asus software developers are lazy as f. This png image also disables 5 rows of pixels from the bottom. Yes, there is a better way. Using overlay method. Just like this in this thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/max-pro-m2/themes/elegantnotch-x01bd-magisk-t3945123
It is currently being used to round the notch. May be this can be modified to round the bottom corners.
Edit: I saw the bug in pixel 3xl devices. Seems google used same png file method to round the display corners and the notch. This wouldn't have been the issue if asus properly aligned the glass panel with the display.

066 update was removed from asus site, probably because the "landscape notch bug" (& the all bunch of bugs that stock has) as stated in the OP. So, wait a few months or use LOS 16.0 like me. It is much better rom than stock & with some (very needed) extra goodies (features).
Edited: the OP attached a link to the 066, if you want still to flash that sh*tty update manually.
Which is good for battery backup stock pie or custom roms?

yes i can do that all the time... when i switch to lte only it always back to default set... and never locked to lte / 4G just like the old firmware.. thats why i use custom rom right now.

I too have this bug after updating. But it goes to normal if the phone is restarted or the display is changed to landscape or portrait.
My experience whit this crappy update, and the fake notch.
My funny fake notch it's permanent t, restart don't work.
So Before deciding to unlock bootloader and flash a decent rom I tried a simple reset.
Surprise! It's work, no more fake notch!
Til.... I installed an app from play store. Not in landscape, in portrait mode.
Notch returned, permanently.
Thanks Asus.
There's a workaround: turn landscape, notch appear.
Turn 180 degrees and disappear, but only that time.
Every time you want to use landscape mode without notch you have to do it.
I didn't n't want to unlock bootloader, but I think it's time to flash some roms that works.
It's official. There's a new OTA 067. I have updated the link of full zip in OP.

[APP] Arc Lighting - Custom Navigationbar for Galaxy Note 10 (hide chin)

(note to galaxy note 10 users set samsung navigatiomode to gesturemode then go into arc lighting and move the buttons up vertically as they are outside of view using gesture mode will make the bar much thinner than normal, force navbar color to black then change the buttons to a line and push them to the edge, this will hide the chin by causing an illusion of the button being closer to the edge than it actually is, the upside to this is that you both get gesturebased navigation and tapbased, by forcing button size it's also relatively easy to hit the buttons)
Download (xda members get free access, will provide unlock codes to any xda member who asks)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.symetium.arclightingnavigationbar
Full Description:
Arc Lighting Navigation Bar is the most advanced custom navigationbar on the market, you can do everything from setting a custom icon per button coloring it after your current wallpaper or app you use or move the buttons up and down both inside and outside of layers, you can apply a colored layer behind each button individually and you can curve each corner of that layer individually you can also set an outline around each layer invidually and you can curve each corner individually aswell this outline can ofcourse change color after your wallpaper or app you're using and you can ofcourse adjust transparency and color lightness as with all other layers, you can force a custom tapspace for each button individually if you feel it's too small for your finger just increase the space and it will be much easier to tap the button, you can set the each individual layer such as the navigationbar or preset icon to change color after the app you're using or after the wallpaper you have both on the homescreen and inside an app, if you prefer to have the wallpaper color even inside the app you're using you can do that too you can also adjust transparency and color lightness if you prefer a darker or lighter color, you can apply an outline to each colored layer individually you can also curve each corner of this outline individually as well as the layer itself, arc lighting custom navigationbar also features modes that you can create and delete as you wish, you can set a custom configuration for how the bar should look and behave inside an app you can set a custom configuration for how the bar should look and behave inside an app in landscape and in portrait, you can do the same on the homescreen both in landscape and in portrait, arc lighting navigationbar comes with various presets such as pc mode which is designed for mouse and keyboard use and a higher dpi setting simply edit only landscape with this mode and have a pc ui, only enable when in landscape, arc lighting navigationbar also features a lighting system that let's you make each button glow individually you can also adjust the glow or turn it off all together, you can have the home button and or back button and or recent apps button pulse when charging, you can use each button individually as a battery indicator and make them change color depending on your charge, you get all this and much more in the most advanced navigationbar app on the market, arc lighting navbarigationbar also comes with various system modes, if you want the best experience choose advanced mode or rootmode, download the simple to use enabler software to give your device the neccessary permissions for advanced mode so you don't have to mess with adb, if you don't want to do this simply choose simple mode this is slightly more limited than advanced more as it will run ontop of your current navigationbar and it doesn't support transparency.
Features:
- Advanced color system with multiple layers of colors that can be enabled or disabled with adjustable transparency or color lightness and or change depending on wallpaper or app.
- Tap Space customization to adjust how big or small you want the Tap Space to be (smaller is better for a mouse and bigger is better for a finger)
- Movement system for each icon to move icons up and down or side to side both inside a layer or with the layer
- Full support for icon packs per icon and preset white or wallpaper/app colored icons with support for glow and lighting indicators
- Lighting system for each individual icon for notifications and various indicators
- PC mode preset for mouse and keyboard use (try to create Windows XP)
- Modes system that lets you set how the bar behaves in landscape and or portrait in-app and or the home screen by default you edit all so uncheck edit all variants to edit individually
i wanted to update everyone on what happened, the app simply died because the developer i worked with simply vanished, i wanted to post this as many of you have noticed i haven't sent out free codes as i should to xda members, my app arc lighting which i put years of my life in including money died, the person i worked with just disappeared, i am not accusing him he said he had corona so i am trying not to think anything i tried to be considerate but i asked whats been happening, i paid money last year to make changes to the app changes which haven't been made and it ended up just dying because it's broken
the last few days i received strange emails from someone claiming they have the sourcecode for something and wanting to sell it to me but they never said for what so i asked what this was about they refused and eventually when i said i'm not interested i received this

i've had contacts with admins on this website who promoted my app, and some people have helped me in the past i wonder if anyone can help me as i am clueless on what to do, the developer i did work with simply is missing, and i don't believe he would do anything to me, i know two people who have the sourcecode, and i do trust them so i don't really know whats happening, i also have no idea why anyone would even want the sourcecode, the functionality is 5% of competing apps that does exactly the same thing, what people seem to like is my ui design and that can easily be copied.

Issue with dialer on higher custom dpi

Hi Guys, so I've increased the dpi to custom under developer settings to 581. Everything seems to work great except for touch position on the dialer and it's pretty irritating. Anyone knows a solution to this or to selectively reduce the dpi on tbe dialer app? I'm not rooted. Look at the screenshot of the issue. Thanks!
I use 589, and no issues, but with 600, the notifications panel becomes very narrow, but no issues with anything else
i use 480 w lowered font size and "fineprint" font.... everything works perfect

Tried 589 and same issue. Can you confirm you don't have the issue on your dialer? Weird why this would be.
I just double checked, at 589, the dialer is normal, but, I have the screen resolution at wqhd+, fhd gives me some troubles in the zone of the nav bar, and I say zone because I hide the nav bar, gestures work ok, but, buttons appearing there become unresponsive, the same for the bottom row of the keyboard

For some reason I still have the issue in the OP screenshot. I've resorted to 520 now with QHD+, things are slightly better on the dialer but still largely the same.

Screen Capture and Screen Write problem (pixelated with the Spen)

I update to the Android One UI. Screen capture is now missing the color dropper (color picker). Also, when it saves drawings, the lines are saved VERY PIXELATED.
Any help?

If i use Spen option to screen shot it shows under screenshot image
If it's a swipe type screen shot,
it shows under the bottom option icons ,next to the scroll icon/edit icon
Otherwise only option left is to factory reset ..to hopefully fix issue !
Good luck
