Galaxy watch GPS fix - Samsung Galaxy Watch

Hey everyone,
would you be willing to share the time it takes till you get connected to the GPS satellite?
On my watch (42mm) it takes up to 2 min (outside). Isn't that a bit long?
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Are you using Samsung Health?
Since last week my health app has been struggling to pick up gps, whether standalone or when connected to the phone. Other apps - Mapmyrun for example - seem to be fine.
I've done resets etc but no improvement so I'm guessing it's an app issue?

Hi. I am in Hong Kong, I was even worse than you with my Galaxy 42 mm, up to 5 mins to get a signal using Samsung health. I complained several times to Samsung without a lot of use with building and things being given as a reason for this even though my old Garmin never took more than a few seconds. Then on February 20th there was an update to the watch. I installed that and since the connection is working really well, no more than 10 to 15 seconds to connect.

GPS issues on Rogers note 2

Hi I have a data plan with Rogers so the a-gps should be picking location with maps or waze. I was driving this morning but the gps was searching the whole time. I was on 4g during this time. All 3 of the boxes under location services are checked.
Thanks for any ideas
Depends heavily on the position inside your car.
The closer to a window or the windscreen the better. Try holding it up to the drivers window for a few seconds and see if it locks on.
Even the best GPS isn't going to work if it's completely shielded from the satellites by the metal roof.
Restart GPS Navigation app or Restart phone helps.

Should not have to restart your phone every time you want to use navigation.
I am having the same issue.
The GPS icon won't even display in the info bar without a restart.
Do you think this is a hardware or software issue ??
I notice about once a day on average that the gps icon will show up in the status bar. Sometimes it's only for a second or two and sometimes it's there for a couple of minutes. One time I saw it and it just seemed to last forever (I didn't time it but I'd guess 15-30 minutes).
I've gotten messages a few times about apps not being able to access location services. I don't use maps very much but I had it open the other day and it just froze up on me. No message about gps but I didn't keep the app open very long after it was obvious it wasn't going to work.
I'm on rogers in Ottawa.
Edit: Just played around in maps/navigation and gps flat out doesn't work. It was using cell tower triangulation and searching for gps the whole time. I had to turn on wifi to get an accurate location.

Anyone have a home made solution or is this a warranty issue?

So, after I posted last night I went out side and checked my GPS. Sitting on the steps infront of my building I conected to GPS in google maps and navigation right away - it worked like a charm.
Then I noticed it said "4G" instead of LTE in the status bar. I live downtown surrounded by buildings and I drop to "4G' on my front steps like 90% of the time. So, I get up and walk down the block and my LTE kicks in. Low and behold, I lost GPS. It only happened briefly but I lost the signal during the switch. Then I read that the note 2 only has a-GPS and lacks regular GPS. I don't know a ton about this stuff but I did read that connecting to GPS can sometimes be an issue if you only have a-GPS and your connection sucks.
Hopefully this is something that can be fixed with a software update. Who knows, maybe this is why those of us with the I317/I317M are the last ones to get the OTA update. I'm gonna call rogers today and let them know about the issue and see what they say. I don't wanna go through the hassle of exchanging my phone if every handset has this issue right now.
Are you using the Perseus kernel? If so GPS does not seem to work correctly regardless of which location provider is used. I reverted to stock and my GPS works.

My Rogers Note 2 has no problems with GPS at all. If you're all stock and have spotty connections, than it's your area. Tall buildings would probably hinder GPS fixes initially.
Rogers here unlocked . Telus network. Rooted and themed and modded. GPS works wonderfully.

Right now I'm stock/unrooted and I intend to stay that way for the time being. I'll be heading to the mall later so I'll pay a visit to the Rogers store and Wireless Wave (awesome third party wireless store in Canada - they really know their ****) and see what they say.
I have the bell version. Just tested on lte. In my house locked on in 4 secs with no wifi.. Gps works great on my phone.

Sorry I took so long to respond but I got sucked in to the mall lol.
So, long story short. Nobody has any clue and the unusually clueless staff at the rogers store (casual Christmas employees) basically said I need to talk to Samsung cuz my 15 days are up. The guys at wireless wave hadn't heard anything about anybody having any issues with gps. Finally, I went to Telus and found someone who actually had a clue and she said it was the first she'd heard of it and actually recommended I check xda.
On my way home now and then I'll call rogers. I'm not hopeful about the outcome lol.
Stay tuned...

Curious to know what rogers says to you ! :good:
Hello folks,
Just an update .. I have been playing around with waze (free at the appstore) for the last day and a half and my gps has been flawless.
Our GPS issues could more then likely be with the actual Navigation app that comes pre installed.
By the way Waze seems to be very impressive I must admit :good:
I used something similar to that app posted.the ones I have is called gpstest.showing 0 satellites for me.like another poster said, should not have to restart the phone or flash firmware on it for GPS to work.it should work otb
Thanks for the feedback

Interesting... I've had this issue happen only once. Nothing I did would start a GPS search. I waited about 2 hours outdoors in a car. Once I restarted the phone, it had a lock on lots of sattelites within 10 sec.
It hasn't happened since.

Note 8.0 N5110 - Will not keep time?

On my Note 8.0 N5110, the system will not update or keep time properly. Is there a setting I have goofed up that is preventing my Note 8.0 from keeping time accurately? It is driving me crazy. The device is completely stock, for what that is worth.
Thanks!
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk
Ha! Samsung messed up with not utilizing internet time on the 5110. The other models have data so providers push time updates automatically.
Good news... There is a way to have atomic time updates through WiFi. Though you will need to root. If on JB use saferoot. On KK use CF Auto Root.
Once rooted, you can download timezone update for the proper zone information that changes time to time. Stock setups are stuck with 2013 info.
The app that does all this is called clock sync. The timezone fixer app is part of it, and installed during setup.
Thanks for the tip. A total bummer that Samsung didn't include that basic functionality on this device.

I too, had this issue along with a fast draining battery. I read that if you disconnected the battery and then reconnect it, it re-calibrates the battery. It also fixed my time keeping issue with my note 8 that always was8 minutes fast no matter how many times I set the clock to the correct time.
The toughest thing was getting the back cover off without scratching or marring it. Also disconnecting the battery leads was a little difficult. But if I could do it then anyone should be able to do it.

[SOLVED] M9 seems slow? [UPDATE] Wifi possibly my issue??

[SOLVED]
As I mentioned a few times in this thread, I was going to get a new wifi router and try it...... Well, the new wifi router fixed the issue.
All my apps that require a data connection (FB, CL, Weather, Instagram, ect...) all work blazing fast now.
Not sure why my wife's "Apple" stuff wasn't having any issues with it, maybe because it was an Apple AirPort router?? Either way, I'm now getting 80-104mb/s down and 25mb/s up.
_______________________________
Now for my original post - below.
_______________________________
I just upgraded from the M8 to the M9........ On At&t
When I first got the M9 and booted it up (first boot), it zipped through all 180-ish of the apps in about 2 minutes and I thought "WOW, this is much faster!
Last night I unlocked, S-OFF and rooted it...Of course, it reset the stock ROM when I unlocked the bootloader, but that still only took about 2 minutes to run through all the apps....I then flashed some ROM's to try on it.. Each time they would go through their first boot, it took about 20-30 minutes (for less apps). I've since tried a few other ROMs and get the same results, it takes a good 20-30 minutes. That's about how long my M8 took. But still NO WHERE NEAR as fast as the first boot when it was stock.
After the boot, and I restore all my apps form the Play store, it seems to take an exceptional amount of time for each app to re-install too... Not download, but install. For example, it just sat on "Installing" Google Maps for over 7 minutes before I stopped the Play store....Then went to my next app, downloaded it and took 4 minutes to install a 7mb app.
Did I get a bad phone?? Or maybe have done something wrong in my root process? This is the 8th or 9th phone I've rooted and I've also rooted several tablets, so I'm not a total nOoB. Maybe a bum firmware?
{UPDATE} I'll post below too, to bump this thread.
So, after basically being couped up in the house since I've had the phone, I went out and did my normal Wednesday thing (bowling), in a different city with pretty good LTE... My phone was FLYING fast on just about everything.
When I came home and connected to my home wifi, things all got really SLOW again. I thought it might be my Firmware (latest Developers 2.8.617.4, so I flashed it agian with no change.... I then flashed the most recent International tw (2.7.xxx.x) and I get the same super slow results. It takes almost 2 minutes to connect to SpeedTest.net with the app and I have 100mb down and 20mb up internet and I'm lucky to get 10 up and 1 down.
My wife's iPhone has no issues and gets 60+mb down and 17 up.... So, something is going on with my M9 and either the way it's talking to the router or something is corrupt?
I opened the Play Store and let it sit for a good 45 seconds, and none of the icon's would load (see pic), it only usually does that when I've got really week signal.
Gonna check my works wifi tomorrow to make sure it's nothing with my wifi or router, but everything else is running smooth (Both ROKU's, X-Box, iPhone, iPad and my songs M7).
To restore apps use titanium, not only will you get the data to them but it's faster and doesn't need the internet.
As for the indexing at the start of a ROM flash, I think thats to do with the OS indexing the apps. Also I think odex vs deodex, one takes longer than the other, could be why it's taking longer to install some apps.
As for 7 minutes for an app is not right.

Not the phone. That's the nature of custom roms. It takes a lot longer in optimize apps, but they'll run faster once optimized.
Might try rebooting for the slow play store apps installing slowly.
One thing I have noticed with the m9, especially in the XDA premium app, first try at clicking on a link for the first time will take a long time to load, click back and reload it, its possible that the play store may be the same, cancel the download and restart it. 7 minutes is not right by a long shot.

Using LTE, it's lightning fast (when the signal is good). Heck, even when it's a weak signal (5mbs), it's still better than my home wifi.
I'm trying a different wifi router tonight, just to rule that out. I'll see if that renders any issues.

Marshmallow OTA Loaded With Bugs

After months of waiting for AT&T to update our $700 phones, the update is quite buggy. Are there fixes out for the various problems with Marshmallow?
1. WIFI connectivity comes and goes. It is difficult to overstate the seriousness of connectivity bugs for power users on a phone with no removable media. My WIFI connects to a network (usually, but not always) but it won't stay connected long. It will drop out and reconnect seemingly when it so chooses. It does seem to work to force a reconnect by cycling WIFI on and off. This bug is horrible.
2. Battery drain is not something I've complained about on this phone til now. If I don't KEEP my phone in ultra battery conservation mode, with regular use the battery lasts a couple of hours TOPS.
3. Mobile data connectivity is now buggy as well. Like the WIFI, it comes and goes. Though it is more consistent than the WIFI.
4. Facebook disconnects constantly. I don't know if this is only because of the mobile data and WIFI connectivity issues or if it is a specific app problem with Marshmallow as well as the WIFI/network issue.
What bugs are you all seeing and are there fixes available?
I agree with 1 and 3. Way to many times to reboot. I like the one that was snuck out from underneath them.

Yes, most of us wiped multiple times. This update is garbage. I was the one who told many to do a reset or clear cache on the sideload. That fixed all issues on PE5, the PE6 OTA is the worst update I have seen from any company ever. I have all of the mentioned issues with wifi, screen staying on, and EXTREME battery drain. This must be a joke and AT&T is probably laughing at us all.

Sorry to hear about your problems. PE6 on mine via sideload with full factory defaults so not sure if you will accept this as a comparison. Did a full backup and restore with Samsung Smart Switch to try and maintain as much as my previous apps/config as possible. However, since upgrading, my phone has been very stable and battery life has increased quite a bit. Old firmware, battery would be 36%-ish by end of day and with PE6 seeing it at 56%-ish now so very happy there. As for the data connectivity issue, my wifi has been very solid and mobile data connectivity has been solid as well but didn't have an issue on lolli either. I don't do Facebook so nothing to compare there. Over all, I am very happy with the upgrade.
Received as OTA, cannot detect any problems the OP is having on my own device.
Was having a small issue with Wifi turning itself off once upon reboot after installing Good Lock, but it doesn't seem to be doing that any longer. Battery was a bit unwell after OTA and setup but has settled to 0.5%/hr resting drain now.
Looking good to me.
I took the Ota. Only bug I've found is settings crash when selecting theme from the android settings.

So I have been having issues with my Note 10+ ever since I've upgraded to Android 10. Did pretty much everything from a reset to a factory reset and delete amd still having issues with smartlock. I have it set to a few devices like my work van, earbuds ,beats and home. I keep getting asked to unlock it when hooked up to any of the devices or at home. Also I've tried to update and delete each one but it still is not working. Even I have ticked when on body.

Yes!! I thought maybe it was something I had done myself. I have mine set the same as you, buds, UE Megaboom3, work and home and it asks me about 90% of the time to unlock using fingerprint or pin when connected or at these locations...very frustrating. Used to work flawlessly before Android10. I thought it was because I was using Nova launcher but haven't tested stock launcher.

I'm not sure to sure with the SM-N975U1
but i think its......
Snapdragon, Dual sim..?
USA unlock version etc
same here
I have the same issue on sm-n976v i also have noticed that if you have good lock with lockstar activated it also seems to mess with smartlock but i used to turn it off and would start working and now it just doesnt work at all.

Wondering if anyone has had same or similar issues with Smartlock?

Yep, same exact issue, nothing in smart Lock works for me. Not trusted devices or trusted places. It's just useless. I have resorted to using bixby routines to keep the phone unlocked in trusted places and it seems to work way better than trusted places ever did. But the trusted devices thing is still irritating.
Edit: Just wanted to add this is on numerous Note 10 pluses (always want to try out different. Colors and special editions, lol) and ever since installing the first beta version of Android 10.

Yes I already came to that conclusion shortly after installing Android 10 official. Hopefully there will be a patch or fix soon

Mine is fine when connected to my TicWatch or JBL headphones but NEVER works with location-based SmartLock. Never has, even on Android 9. Set address and GPS location, nothing works for location for me but never an issue with BT connected devices.

On Android 9 smart Lock worked better than it did on any of my pixel phones which was refreshing. Location and device both worked flawlessly. But not any more unfortunately.
