SD Card as Interanal storage problem Android Pie Soft reboots on lock screen - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

My SD Card SanDisk Extreme Pro 64gb (brand new) is not corrupted or anything it works perfectly fine from other devices. When i format the sd card as a adoptable storage it soft reboot or somehow like the sd card ejects itself randomly when i lock the screen (I think ejects triggers the soft reboot because I migrated the internal data and transfer all apps to sd card and somehow it affects the system too) example while im listening to music and I lock the screen then pause it using my headphone or when im not using it the device will soft reboot. (I also think that because i used vpn to install android pie update and installed the one with bugs) Tried factory reset and flash it back to v10.0.2.0 (Downloaded from Xiaomi official website) using fastboot and update to latest update but it didnt work. Pls Help me fix this.

You said you've migrated all the apps to the SD card which is formated as adoptable.
Did you try to move the apps back to internal memory to check if that's the issue?

yea I tried that still reboots. I think it is a software problem.

Sorry to hear that. I personaly don't use adoptable storage so can't help more. Only thing that comes to mind is to try and clear the app data from apps that were on adoptable storage if moving back to internal memory.

Since the January update while charging the battery I get warnings that my SD card (formatted as portable storage) is corrupted. If I just reboot after the warning everything is fine again.

Do you have access to the data on the card while it's charging?
If you change USB options to e.g. MTP storage instead of charging, does it change anything?

Nope, after the corruption warning I can't access the SD card until I reboot and it only bugs when using the wall charger.

You could try to use a different charger (I know it's stupid but trying to eliminate all the small issues like that sometimes gives good results).
Waiting for another update might fix the issue if it's a ROM thing, naturaly if you want to wait.
Worst case scenario would be to try and rollback to a previous update (backup first).

I've had the same issue on both phones i bought. It randomly unmounts the adopted storage throughout the day. I've tried different cards but it's been an issue from the beginning and through every update. It seems like it doesn't have an issue as long as something is actively reading from the card, ie. music. However, I haven't tried clearing app data on the apps i moved to internal yet.

Wellp the february update did not fix this problem. Is there anyway to contact them to fix this problem for the next update?

Help - not reading micro sd card

I have a PNY a 64gb class 10 had this card since the phone came out,
I noticed that you could update to marshmallow by LG Bridge, so i did so, everything went smooth, however i noticed everything used to be saved on my sd card then was saved to my phone and its not reading my sd card at all.
Ive formatted the sd card through my phone by storage-sd card-settings-format- while im doing this at 20% it will say sd card is ejected but then proceeds and says its been formatted correctly.
However the phone will read the sd card only in SETTINGS-STORAGE, it will read the files on the sd card, how ever if i try and play music/movies it will not read it through my apps like mx player/poweramp.
Apps like app manger 3 - which i use to transfer apps to sd card will not read my sd card at all.
Ive tried and formatted the sd card through my phone only around 5 times and still the same problem.
any help

so have you tried to play with the presmission new thing at marshmallow or tried factory reset after formating the sd?

i would check the permission thing just to make sure.. here is a how guide for that
i dont know what you can do more than that, you could maybe try to check another microsd to check if it didnt ruined the file system on it or(or simply if the sd you have is broken) or to if it is really a OS issue...
but as it seems for now a lot of people having problem with the sd part of marshmallow...

ive tried to do permissions but it wont allow to change to sd card,
Ive reloaded phone and before it comes onto my home screen says mount my sd card, ive gone into storage - sd card- mount, restarted phone but again the same issue.
When im in camera mode the phone allows me to select where my photos will be saved (onto sd card), i can go into settings_sd card and read everything onto sd card, however its just moving apps onto sd card it will not allow.
Ive read online saying marshmallow may only allow apps to be saved on internal memory now due to previous versions off OS- was a problem with viruses being attached on apps which were saved onto sd card- was the main problem. Could it be this?, marshmallow doesn't allow this.
Use TWRP to format, that was the only solution to get my 128 GB sd card working after update again. The integrated format function always tell me success while notification said card damaged. After formatting with TWRP everything worked again
Edit: Are you sure you flashed correct patched kernel as this can disable vfat reading? Look here in forums, there is a thread about different version names for different countries (e.g. German V20a is polish version V20b)

Big problems after removing sd card

Hey guys,
I removed my old 16gb micro sd card to make a copy for a new 128gb card on my pc. Once I put the same card back in, I started getting massive errors like the camera won't function, my wallpaper and nova launcher settings reverted to something kinda stock, but my icons were still in the same place. I can't get into my android settings "unfortunately the process com.android.settings has stopped" to attempt clear any caches. I did end up clearing my app caches using apps2sd but I'm stuck on what to do. I had xposed and g4 tweaksbox but disabled everything.
Edit: I just reset my phone using the power button options but I still can't get into settings, now I can't even re-enable developer options. Same problems as before.
I remember my sd card had some silly name of whatever_5888 but now it's not labeled at all, would that have something to do with it?
I'm running an LG G4 H812 rooted on Lollipop 5.1.1 no custom recovery. Damn Canadian version of this phone..
Thanks!
before you removed the micro sd, you did go into settings - storage - sd -card - unmount sd card ?
Did you unmount it or did you just power off and pull it is what i'm asking.
I didn't unmount, i turned off and removed the card.
It's alright though, I factory reset the phone using the power button trick while booting, but after I still couldn't get into the settings and the issues still were happening. So I reflashed back to stock and flashed the rooted system image. Man things were much simpler with the Nexus 5, I wouldn't have this Canadian variant which has a locked bootloader, so no custom recovery here..
It's all good! luckily I have root and titanium so all back to normal. I'll know next time to properly unmount, it just never happened to me before that's all.
Thanks mate

Exactly, as you've learned the hard way that not unmounting causes trouble. Was the micros adoptable storage or portable storage ?
Default wont allow adoptable but there are ways around that.

This is the part that amazes me, you had to reflash back to stock then the rooted image to fix what ? a removed microsd that the OS remembered was there but isn't any more and is unhappy.
My first thought would be to do operations on the card, not the phone. Since i learnt this lesson some time ago on JB i don't know if the following would work now or not.
- switch off the phone. remove the battery for a few seconds. re-insert sd card. Ensure its properly inserted. Then reseat battery. power up. If that does not work try the next.
- try to delete any items in the lost.dir folder on the sd card from another device.
- still not working, try to see if its viewable on a pc, copy everything possible, then format the card in an adroid device. Copy everything back to the card.
On JB you would get a micro SD card is damaged notification when reinserting a microsd that was removed without unmounting. If you had anything on the card, it showed up as empty but nothing was deleted, just the system forgot where everything was.

Lineage os no option to move apps to SD card

Hi all
I successfully updated to the latest nightly build 8/3/17 how ever I have no ability to move app data to my SD card. My sd card is seen under storage and I have files on it.
I also have twrp 3.0.2.0 but get a kernel is not seandroid enforcing error and can't charge whilst off. I have no loop issue the unit work's OK otherwise.
The lineage is rooted, I would welcome any advice.

Interesting if you boot into trwp can that see your sd card? So under storage the sd card isn't visible at all? Have you tried formatting it?

Yes, I can see it fine under TWRP. I thought maybe it couldn't recognize exFAT, so I formatted it to EXT4. But it's still not showing up at all.

That is weird, do you have another android peripheral that you could prospectively format the card in and try? Alternatively you could wipe and reinstall. I blew away the android internal storage and installed from my SD, just about everything works except the sd storage option. That's an issue storage and app wise so I may go back to marshmallow lineageos if I can't sort it.
Failing that back to stock lollipop should that fail.

I don't have another android device, but I do have a linux machine, (actually, I only run Linux in my home), and I can read and write the card no problem in my desktop machine. I haven't tried it on my HTPC/Plex server yet, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. On stock Lollipop, I can see the card, but it's read only. Oh, I should have been clearer. I can see the card on the tablet, but it doesn't display anything. It says "contents not found", and I can't enable writing to it for Root Explorer.

That is weird you got me stumped, other than a rebuild I got nothing. Try the card in a mate's phone if possible better than wiping the unit first.
If that doesn't work I got nothing. Truth be said I'm no expert, I try my best.
Hi all
I updated the Lineageos ROM the AOSP I had no hardware issues or software issues on the OS. However please note that if you use this ROM for some reason you will lose the TWRP Recovery.
I installed the AOSP ROM 7.1.1 first, didn't reboot and then installed the Gapps file, upon reboot it stayed on the splashed screen, so I then booted into the standard recovery and wiped/factory reset the unit, all good since and it is running smoothly, just wanted you to let you know that the Lineage ROM isn't the only option.
I also had the options for the SD card and UI System tweak was also there, good luck. If anyone wants assistance I am happy to assist.

Hey mate I found an alternate fix and everything works, look at AOSP rom and let me know if you have any questions.

I have also a problem with the SD card. I have the newest build and the SD card is seen in the settings and also in file manager can read/write, but other apps somehow don't see it, I cannot set the camera to save photo to external storage, also in Google play music I cannot choose to store music to external card, the options are not there. On my Galaxy S5 also with Lineage it works perfectly. Secondly, in the settings I can only format the SD card as portable, not as internal, but that would not bother me if the apps would see the card and I could use it as storage.
Solution for sd card write issue?
Did you ever find a solution? I have the same devices and exactly the same problems.

Have the same problem on my SM-P605 - have had problem since at least the 20170713 nightly build when I started using LineageOS (am currently running 20170830 nightly).
The SD card appears under settings - I can format and eject the SD card, it appears under /mnt/media_rw/76AC-17ED, but
doesn't appear as a SD card in Amaze file manager
doesn't appear as a SD card in ESExplorer (only Internal Storage appears on the home page)
I cannot set the camera location to save photos on it
doesn't appear under /storage (i.e. /storage/76AC-17ED)
It's as if the storage is mounted, but isn't flagged as being a SD card.

I think I found a solution your problem. Well, it worked for me.
Firstly I backed up my SDCARD
Then went to Settings, Storage Settings tabbed on SD card and tab on options [three dotted things].
Formatted my sd card as internal, when I went back to my applications there was an option to move them to external.
[WARNING]One problem is that if you format it as internal it will not show as different storage systems on your pc WILL SHOW AS SHARED STORAGE!!!!
******** I Had So Many Issues I Would Not Recommend It *********
Hope that helps you

Thanks for the suggestion - but didn't work.
When I click the three-dotted-things only option I see is (under Storage settings) is "Format". I format the card - but still cannot move apps to it or set as camera location.

Hi.
I just got it running on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition (LTE).
This guide worked for me: modaco.com / news / android / heres-how-to-configure-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632
Guide also referenced in this German HowTo: androidpit.de / micro-sd-als-internen-speicher-formatieren
I did the 50:50 format on my 200GB SD card.
Please remove the blanks in the links. Had to put them in because forum software did not allow me to include links.

SD Card "disappears"

Hello everyone.
My main issue for a few months has been the microSD card. Before I unlocked the bootloader, rooted and installed custom ROMs, my SD card worked fine, which was a SanDisk Ultra Class 10 32GB. After doing those things, my microSD card (or my phone) has been suffering a problem where it either corrupts or it disappears from the configurations of the phone, even after buying a SanDisk Ultra 64GB microSD card. I even unrooted, reinstalled the stock ROM and locked the bootloader but this keep happening.
This is incredibly frustating, because my main use for the card is Spotify, Netflix and Youtube Go! (I like to download everything on the highest quality possible) and every time it corrupts or dissapears I have to format the card and download everything once again. I even tried formatting it for internal storage but it dissapeared out of the blue other day just like it happens when it's setup as external storage.
Does anyone else have the same issue or know any fix to this?
It may be a hardware issue with the sd card reader

And only Motorola would be able to fix it?
A hardware specialist could, it's not just limited to Motorola workers.
I have similar problem/s
A. It takes a lot of time until card is ready
B. After it shows as ready, it can dissappear after a few min.
I u reinsert it, it takes more time, and sometimes fixes the issue.
The weird part. If it is ok, it will work like that until next reboot.
I really dislike this phone.

You don't need to format it
If it says sd card corrupted when you turn the phone on simply remove the sdcard (whilst the phone is still on) wait a few seconds then put it back in again
This works if formatted as external storage - not tried as internal as I don't see benefits in this

It says SD card corrupted while using the cell phone. Like, let's put this situation:
I had downloaded all my Spotify songs in the highest quality they allowed, listened to them while coming back from University on a Tuesday night. I put my G5 to charge during my sleep. When I wake up the next day to go to work, I cannot access any of the music, because suddenly my SD card disappeared from the cell phones (if I go check in the settings, it says 24,59 GB instead of 84,06 GB). After a few minutes, the SD card re-appears but says it's corrupted.
Since creating this thread, I haven't added anything to the SD card and I never got the issue again, so I'm pretty sure it's something with the way Spotify files work.

Have you tried connecting your sd card to the pc and check for the available space ? If it does then copy the data to your pc, format your sd card (ControlPanel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk manager).
Then re-insert the blank sd card into your phone and see if it shows up.

Yet another problem... Mi A2 Lite randomly throwing "Missing SD Card" error

I thought that this phone was great... I also thought that being Android One meant that many bugs won't be there and we would have a robust OS... It's all the opposite, Android Pie 10.0.4.0 here, and it's full of errors and bugs.
First battery life decreased from Oreo, then fingerprint doesn't feel as much responsive like before (but this could be just me), File transfer is HYPER SLOW, and finally... it randoms ejects my SD Card which is formated as internal storage and my phone keeps rebooting when it wants...
The problem with the SD Card is that randomly shows the "SD Card missing" message, and it's not only one SD Card, I tried another and the same message appears, both being SanDisk, one is A1 class and the other is just class 4, but both fail to remain stable on my phone, causing the close of all apps I have in the card.
My old LG F60 while it was crap with just 1GB of internal memory, all it's functions worked perfectly with Link2SD, what is happening here??
I had the same issue on Android Pie, what I did was I got rid of my sdcard because the phone had 64 gb of internal storage. But yeah, Xiaomi, their updates and software "improvements" suck. I'm thinking of downgrading to Oreo again. Sdcard issue is known since 10.0.1.0, still not fixed.
Man... that's so sad to read... I used Oreo but the situation with the SDCard is even worse, external storage apk stops all the time and gives problems, at least on Pie you can use it but it's way too unstable, sometimes it works fine for a whole day and other times it keeps rebooting the phone in a matter of hours because the SD Card it's "missing"... I really like the hardware the phone has, but I hate the software.
I will use internal then, thankfully 64GB is more than enough, but I hate that I can't use the A1 SDCard I have, I will keep reporting bugs and bugs on Mi Community and the Feedback app.
Thanks for replying, now I know I'm not the only one...

Yea don't try to downgrade, Android Pie has a built-in anti-rollback feature, it will cause more problems rather than solve it.

Yesterday I downgraded to Oreo and I thought only issue was SIM which could be fixed by flashing modem.img from Pie. So I set up my device everything is cool and all but then in some thread somebody said rollback breaks video recording too... aand it was broken. Either with stock cam or with Gcam you can't record videos lol. Xiaomi made sure no one returns to Oreo and now I'm stuck with Pie and bad battery life, ****ty wifi, no gcam lol. Thx Xiaomi
Any solution yet for the missing sd card message?

Hello;
at the moment the only solution is to set it as a portable memory

Im sure i read somewhere that you need a good superfast sdcard to match the internal storage, correct if me im wrong but it makes sense when your trying to format as one whole storage.

The error pops up even when you use the sdcard as an external storage, it is a Pie problem, which led me to ditch my 64 gb "superfast" sdcard.

Hello; as an external memory I do not detect any defect
Someone with the same problem might try to close the "attachment" notification under Gmail app. Since I closed it I didn't have the missing Sd card problem again. However, it's only been tested for one day.
I am using it as internal storage.
whether I managed to solve the problem with the sd card because I have the same?

The error of missing Sd card is not showing anymore. Currently I am using it as internal storage without any problems. Not sure if what I mentioned before have solved it or something else. Just try the solution above and report back.
Is it about these settings? My English is not good.

Yes exactly. Move down to miscellaneous and turn off the attachments box.

if you revert to 9.6.4 with pie modem, and later update to 9.6.11, the video recording issue is gone!

Video recording issue was caused by the modem.img of Pie. I reverted to 9.6.11.0 by MiFlash and didn't flash Pie modem.img because I didn't use 2 SIMs anyway. video working fine now. Thanks though!
Hi,
Since the Pie update in January, frequently I get a status message of "verifying SD card content" which deranges at least the music apps which rely on mp3 tags. I've tried, repairing the sd card and everything else including reformatting the sd card. No success, I'm afraid. The message is displayed frequently. If I'm listening to music in the sd card it doesn't show the message but if , for instance, I pause it and leave it paused for some minutes, when I unlock the phone to restart playing the message is displayed and I have to wait until all content is rescanned by the music app. This is happening with several music apps, including VLC, Google Play, Pulsar, etc. Since January, I'm only able to use folder players which are faster at scanning sd content and don't rely so much in mp3 tags.
This didn't happen with Oreo and as I'm no expert, I didn't try the rollback to Oreo.
Does anyone know at least a workaround to this issue?
Thanks
If you'd read the other threads for this problem, you'd find a solution there.
Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is an extremely cheap mid-range device, so they had to cut corners in some manners.
First of all, the first thing that should give you a hint is that A2 Lite does not have exFAT support by default.
The exFAT formatting option is found in cards larger than 32GB and >= Class 10.
Missing the exFAT format led me to diagnose that the phone lacks also the power management features tu support cards > Class 4.
When the CPU enters a deep sleep mode or random times at idle the SD Card loose the power needed to function and thus the message on the screen, because the SD Card gets a new Mount ID.
Tested a 64 GB UHS1 sd card formatted as FAT32... the message pops up as soon as the phone is woken up and exits deep sleep.
Tested a 64 GB Class10 sd card formatted as FAT32... the message pops up randomly sometimes after 6 hours, sometimes after days. Something happens with the voltages on the SD Card slot which forces a remount.
Tested a 32 GB Class 4 sd card formatted as FAT32... no problems, 0 messages, everything stays where it should be.
In conclusion, they didn't lie that the phone can support large, fast sd cards... It can, you can plug the latest, largest SD card in it and it would work just fine, but it's not stable, and it's not supported by the OS. I don't think Xiaomi will ever launch a Kernel update to support >= Class 10 in a stable manner since I think there are licenses and legal terms to be paid.
Unless some devs find a solution for rooted devices to overcome this power management problem, downgrade your SD card to a Class4, keep it just for media storage, and use the internal memory for high speed data r/w.

Thanks for the explanation of why it happens in Pie.
What remains as a mistery to me is why this didn't happen in Oreo. It never happened. Same sd card (OS and capacity), same phone hardware.
I should say that the OS update notification in January didn't state clearly an OS update to Android 9 (pie). Never crossed my mind that an OS upgrade would mess with something that was stable on the previous OS. Naive me :-S
If this a power management issue, is there a way to disable the power saving for the sd card handling?
Thanks again.
