Can you confirm please ?
Because some people say the navigation gestures does not work well when you use another launcher (especially the gesture to the homepage).

Here some information about visual voice mail : https://www.talkandroid.com/256381-android-m-will-have-native-visual-voicemail-support/
Can you look into it and tell me if the mate 20 has visual voice mail ?

Gestures don't work good but I don't use them so for me Nova launcher works.

Thanks for your reply

Echoing from https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20/how-to/bad-news-mate-20-allowed-to-party-t3863933 :
The chinese variant of the mate 20 disallows use of 3rd party launchers because retail stores in china have been installing their own dodgy launchers on their phones. In order to use any 3rd party launchers in a chinese variant mate 20, install your launcher of choice then follow this guide:
https://www.xda-developers.com/huawei-honor-chinese-emui-9-blocks-third-party-launchers/

Well, thanks for the reply.
I try nova yesterday on the mate 20 in the store.
Everything works well besides the gesture navigation. Thé gesture to the home page does not work.
I could not try the phone app and try the visual voice mail.
Can someone look into it ?
Thanks.

well i said 3rd party launchers worked partially .. but i discovered it wasnt the default launcher .. after choosing them as default launcher they seem to work with no problems

Hi,
Can you tell me if 3rd party launcher works well with gesture navigation?

I don't use voice mail so I don't know. Regarding 3rd party launcher like Nova launcher, there was a problem as you said in the past, but now after the latest update (184), it fixed right now, the stock gesture navigation is working well with Nova launcher, swipe for home and swipe+hold for recent app list as good as it is. I cannot complain any things right now, so happy.:fingers-crossed:

[SLOVED] Galaxy Nexus change the default dialer?

How can I change the default dialler for SGN so I can use Dialer one or Go Contact EX? it wont come up with the action request pop up.
The phone icon in the launcher is actually a direct link to the phone app so you just have to replace that with your own chosen dialler app! in 2.x it was a link to the default phone app but in ICS it is different.
Hello mate
the problem with impossibility change stock ICS dialer by another one from third party is driving me crazy... I tried everything including factory reset and complete wipe. Always the bloody stock dialer come up when use any dialer from the market. Even if I swipped launcher and phone icon. Third party dialer itself works OK, but when dialing I get stock!!
kinldy ask all readers/users for help. To disable stock ICS original dialer that I hate!
Thanks guys

Dial by name?

How do you enable dialing contacts by spelling out their name on the dial pad? This was my most heavily used feature on my TB. I'm hoping I don't have to flash a custom rom just for this! .. thx!
I know I'm using the exDialer which supports both speed dial (long press a single number) and the dial by name feature. Both of which are lacking from the stock dialer.
I'm also using exDialer and I like it a lot. Way better than the stock dialer.
After you bring up the dialer hit the search button bottom right.

Yes that feature sux as it requires 5+ clicks as opposed to dialing it directly....
honestly there are tons of features that are just missing from this phone that I used all the time on my TB...
like a global search button (?!? wtf google) I never use the google search bar... and I wish I could reverse the home / back buttons...and remove altogether the recent apps button (I never use that either).... i guess my only option is a custom rom? any good ones out there that allow this? Or do I have to replace the launcher? I'd rather not do that tho bc i dont want any lag..... thx!
I use exdialer as well. If you're on a custom rom, there's a cm9 dialer that adds this functionality, but it doesn't work on stock roms.
Use the microphone icon on the google search bar on the homepage. "Call Dave on mobile". Works fine for me.

Yea I'm sure it works but I'd rather not announce who im calling to the whole room sometimes... dial by voice has its benefits but its just not for me I guess..

Oh sweet... thanks!
This was actually something that I thought would be included in ICS stock dialer. Really surprised Google hasn't figured this one out yet. Oh well.
As many others have already stated, exDialer is a free app available on the market that satisfies all your smart-dialing needs. There's even a free ICS theme available as well. I truly love this dialer in comparison to the stock ICS dialer, which was lacking so much - which I noticed right away when I got my GNex. All is well now though with exDialer installed.
Texting as well?
A little off topic but today I transferred all my contacts from my Evo3d to my Nexus. This evening I tried to send a text message and thought I could just type the contact's name into the To: field and have the phone pick it up from my contacts list. It didn't happen. Am I missing something?
thx ill check it out
one weird thing that i've noticed is the avatars for my friends in the contact list is super low resolution for some reason... its the contacts that have facebook "linked" to each contact - any idea how to fix this? It should be showing the full resolution of the image not a 120x120 pixelated image.....
also how to search the contact list for duplicates? HTC does this automatically and suggests that contacts be "linked"..... but on the GN, you have to do it contact by contact which is a PITA when you have 400+ contacts..... ideas? Thx everyone for the help!

switch to go sms pro - its much better than the stock app! be sure to disable the notifications of the stock sms app after u install it.
Pure Android Nexus & AOSP Roms don't include the feature the OP is looking for.
Just to answer the OP's question, pure Google Android Nexus phones have never included the feature you are looking for, same goes for most AOSP roms. CM doesn't include it either.
Seems silly, I don't know why, I always dial people by putting in the first few letters of their name also and the number pops up. Wish the pure Nexus line included that.

Unread counters for gmail/sms/missed calls

As per title, is there an unread counter for sms/calls/gmail (which works on gmail)?

as written in the comments, this is not working for gmail since update to 2.3.3
AFAIK there is no working unread counter since GMail changed their permissions for the app.

and wonder why google with ics has not included this by design...
Missed It!.
And for the GMail problem, try this workaround.

It's a livewallpaper but it does work with all the notifications you ask about with Android 4.x .. the wife messed with it for a while. I was fine with the missed stuff being in the pull down so I never downloaded it. She likes/liked it well enough .. don't know if she's still using it.
This is one of Android's most frustrating things: not having a uniform on-icon notification system. Widgets are fine, but I really don't need yet another widget taking up space, when I already have the icon on the desktop.
I hate the way the notification bar is implemented. It's too small, too ugly and it get's so cluttered that it is hard to tell at a quick glance what the notifications are. Frankly, the iOS notifications bar implementation is way better visually (if you agree, check out the app iPhone Notifications in the Market).
On-icon notifications work randomly. Even the stock launcher does not show on-icon notifications for the stock Email app (not GMail). There is not notification for Google Voice (why, is beyond me). The whole scheme is a mess.
I have kind of been able to make things work with ADW Notifier in Chuck Noritz Mode, but ADW Notifier does not seem to be supported much nowadays, so the service FCs multiple times a day.
I wish that someone would bring in good implementation of on-icons notifications, or that Google redesigns the whole notification scheme and streamlines it.

Looking for the same thing, tried NOVA launcher but they left our that most important feature. To me that is #1 most wanted thing in a launcher, before all else.

If you want it on your lock screen then use WidgetLocker with ADW Notifier. If you want it on your home screen or on your dock then use ADW EX with ADW Notifier.

Yeah, ADW Notifier is pretty much the only thing that sort of works, but as I said above, it FCs constantly and it is inconsistent. Go Launcher also has a notifier, but it works with a much more limited number of apps (you can't get notifications for Google Voice or the stock Email app, for instance).
So far, I have not been able to find a reliable on-icon notifier for Android.

I can't speak to your experience, but I have used ADW EX and Notifier since I got my Nexus and haven't had any FC's or problems with it. That is when applying it to Gmail, the stock messenging app, and the Phone app since that's what the OP inquired about. None of these require the use of Chuck Norris mode, and at least for me none have failed yet. My main reason for switching was the big **** LauncherPro took on ICS, and have been happy with the results since.
ADW Notifier done FC only for some particular aplication not for sms, Gmail, K9, missed call, but for for some sms aplication like go sms and other, a lot sms app in fact adw notifier works until the next reboot
It's the reason why i stopped using it, Missed it is good, personaliy now i use Executive assistant for sms, missed call and K9, Gmail.
There is a free version , try and see.

Well, as I mentioned above, many of us use Google Voice for voicemail (instead of what's offered by the service provider). GV requires Chuck Noritz Mode, and it works most of the time, although it often shows "?" instead of the number of vm messages.
Many of us also use email accounts which are not GMail -- the stock Email app also requires Chuck Noritz Mode.
ADW Notifier has not been updated in a long time, I hope the next update is soon and it fixes some of these issues.
In fairness, it is not really ADW's fault. It sounds like the Android notification system is a complete mess, with no clear standards for developers to follow.
It is simply amazing that even two of the main Google apps, Google Voice and Email, cannot handle notifications properly, like Phone or Messenger. Very sloppy.

Problem with the Google Feed Widget

Hello everybody,
since a few weeks my Google Feed Widget just shows me:
Looking for weather, calender, and other updates?
Install the new At-a-Glance widget. LERN MORE
My problem is that i dont have the At-a-Glance widget.
The "Lern More" hyperlink brings me to a Google Help website wich just says that i already have the at-a-glance widget and i have just to place it.
But i dont have the Widget.
Someone here who knows how to fix this issue?
It's a Google App widget.

Sure i did. I have just 4 widgets, Searchbar, Feed and 2x Sound Searchbar.
Try cleaning data for Google App, or use different launcher.l am on Nova Launcher. I guess Google dropped support for Feed as I don't have it anymore. It's need replaced with At a glance on my phone.

Android: 8.0.0
Build: ONEPLUSA3003_16_180704
Launcher: Stock OnePlus
Google App version: 8.33.6.21.arm64

Ive updated my OnePlus Launcher 2.5.0 with an apk from APK Mirror to v.2.5.1. and now i have the At a Glance Widget
Unfortunately, the widget always shows me my calendar when I click it, I would much rather see my news as with the "feed" widget. Can you change that?

Nova Launcher, Google Keep and other widgets not working properly

Hi, I got a problem with my Redmi phone.
I set up Nova Launcher and I am using several widgets. Some of them work without any problems, but Google Keep Widget and Event Flow Calendar widget gets deleted after one or two days. So basically, every second day, I need to set up it again. That's annoying.
Does anybody know this issue and has a solution? Should I go back to the standard launcher?
Cheers,
Sven
I've got the same issue -- was using Nova - using Evie now, and have the same issue...
Well, good to know. But I don't understand why this is happening. Makes no sense to me. Did you try with the original / standard launcher?

Rights problem, add Android background capabilities to your app
Update: I changed back to standard/system launcher, added the widgets and they disappeared after 2 days. One of the widgets was Google Keep, the other one event flow calendar and Google Calendar. When I started Google Keep from the app, the widget came back. I just had to choose my Google Account again. But it works.
Is there anybody out there who found a solution for this issue? Looks like it loses the connection to the app or something.

Hello i had the same problem. Because i have install almost my apk direct from my backup (file explorer) and many widget (agenda business, digical, aquamail dont working). I have reinstall from Play Store and problem solved... And Nova Launcher working now... (just problem accessibility if you use gesture).
The thing is that I did not backup anything. I did a fresh install from Google Play. Nova launcher actually worked, also the gesture. But not the widgets. But as I said, they disappear even with the system launcher.
So it is not related to Nova Launcher I guess.
I did not find a nice solution so far. Just the one I described, but it is rather a compromise instead of a solution. Damn Xiaomi

tried the standard launcher and from what I can tell, it didn't affect the widgets. which sucks as the standard launcher is weak sauce.
I gave the app of the widgets that didn't work in Nova Launcher all permissions, and they worked after that.
