Help! Everything is in Chinese - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

I accidentally hit "reset all settings" and now everything is in Chinese. How can I change the language back to English? I am unable to read anything under any of the menus.

If u have another phone u can use a camera document translate reader.
Just an idea
https://petapixel.com/2015/01/14/googles-translate-app-can-now-use-camera-translate-world-real-time/

lets try this:
1) go to settings and select the last option on that list (that is System)
2) Select the fourth option in that (that is Language and input)
3) Select the first option (that is Language)
4) you would see some chinese and a tick mark to the right. select the option below that (that is Add Language)
5) you should see English as a language there.

Softkey Changer

I made a little Cab file of the Softkey Changer App I found somewhere in an Extended Rom.
Since there are a lot of people who want to change the softkeys.
Enjoy
what does it do? Is it to change application in the main (today) softkeys?
or can it also change softkey in other applications such as Outlook Mobile?
Thanks in advance.

I too am confused. Isn't there already an option to change whatever application we can launch using the soft key buttons by going to the system settings?
This application is not standard in every Rom.
If you don't have it in your Rom, you can add it now.
Yes you can assign every program to one of the softkeys.
sharky48 thanks for this fantastic thing. I use to have some other one, bu this is just perfect.
Thanks again

This one is much better:
- It allows to select any application whereever the application is.
- Allows to rename the Soft Key Display Name
- The applet can be put on any Tab (Personal, System or Connections) of Settings
Cheers,
.Fred
ps.: the only disavantage is that the size of the applet is 63k against the 18k of yours

You need to unzip the file and copy the applet file to \windows folder then perform a soft reset.

Thanks for the explaination. Appreciate it.
Does anyone know of a way to access call history using the softkeys, or even the hard keys?
On my old C500 i think there was an executable somewhere which opened call history, and it was possible to point a button at this, can't seem to find one on the hermes though.

Thanks! Does anyone has these files: tnsms.exe (for "New SMS" command) and tnmms.exe (for "New MMS" command) in folder: My Pocket PC\Windows\ ? Couldn't run softkeys for "New SMS" or "New MMS".
Thanks again!
so i got the app working but on WM6 even though i changed the soft key in the program on the today screen the right soft key still says menu
what should i try to change that?
also how do i edit the names so instead of it saying messaging for the left soft key it becomes Messaging with a capitol?

There should be an option there to rename it. Just read it carefully. It should be at the top.

wow thanks im stupid.
however still i cannot change the right soft key, even though i have a program selected in the program, on the today screen it still wont change from Menu
So I changed the right soft key to new sms and it didnt work, so I changed it back to Calendar but now it gives me an error:
HTCCalendar.exe
The file "HTCCalendar" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.
This is using the former file (soft key changer.zip) not applet.
Even resetting doesnt help.

How can I set the right softkey to lock? 6.5 Rom

As the topic says
or by pressing and holding the hang up key? can it be set up that way?
I hope i know what you mean, but if, it's possible .
Go into the phone settings, if youre running standard rom, start menu -> Settings -> Personal, otherwise in the settings Tab and over "all settings".
There you select "Buttons" and "End Key".
Then you can choose what your device should do if you hold the end key, so you might select "Automatically execute the selected action" and "lock device".
If thats what you searched for, it should work, although the unlock-screen isnt very pretty.

What rom are you running? I have tried a few wm6.5 roms and have yet to find that setting. I guess thats why Miri added a cab to add that function.

[Q] Froyo Verizon Virtual CDRom on usb mount?

Flashed with RUU of froyo after the update.zip failed (missing too many files like cityid) So its now back rooted and everything is working great from what I can tell. However I just mounted it to copy some files over to the SD card an noticed now 3 drives are there. The two normals, emmc and sdcard, plus a 3rd Virtual CDrom which what I assume is the install for 3g mobile hotspot or something.
So I really never plan on using that, anyone have an idea on how to remove that?
Remove cdrom.iso to avoid being prompted to install Verzion/HTC hardware when the device is connected via USB. This is what the Virtuous ROM did. I have not tested this without the Virtuous ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765447
Cool, found it in /etc/CDROM.ISO I just renamed it and you are right, its not showing files, but it still has the CD drive itself, any ideas on that?

that's what I was trying to get at with the OP. If the file name was renamed, but not the extension, then the 'drive' would still mount.
This has been reported to work as well:
Dial ##7764726
Hit Call
Type Password 000000 (that's 6 zeros)
Hit Feature Settings
Choose CD ROM
Click Disable
Hit menu, commit modifications (it will say no item changed)

Makes sense. Some corporations I know wouldn't allow their employees to hook up their phones to their PCs if it was trying to mount CDs for app installs. Either way, I'm going to try that. Thanks for the info.
[Edit: That did work for me, btw.]

no go for me... The Droid X doesn't have a "feature settings" section of th Programming Menu.
what am I doing wrong?
when I enter ##7767426 on the dialer it
just returns to its screen (waiting for a
call to be dialed).
Can the utility be directly called from the
shell prompt? in winmo the ## codes
were all dialer short cuts to various
functions (mostly call to epst.exe).
I figured something similar was done
here too.
(my environment is in sig)

Importing the personal user dictionary from HTC UDB file. (For custom ROMs)

Hi everyone!
This post is for everyone who has/has not installed a custom ROM and wants to restore his HTC device's personal user dictionary in AOSP/Google or any other keyboard.
Edit: This method also works if you want to copy your stock HTC Keyboard's dictionary to another keyboard like Google Keyboard or others.
Requirements
1.Backup of your user dictionary from HTC device. You must have the PersonalDictionary.htcudb file. To get this file go to Settings(on your HTC ROM), and then tap Language & keyboard >Tap HTC Sense Input.>Tap Personal dictionary >Back up to email.
When prompted, tap OK. You have the PersonalDictionary.htcudb file now.
2.Any office suite application.(MS Office 2010 Recommended)
3.User Dictionary Manager(UDM). Make sure you have it installed. You can find it on Google Play.
Procedure
1. Open the PersonalDictionary.htcudb file using the Word Processor. Use encoding UTF-8.
2. You will notice all your added words separated by "|" symbol. Select all data and do Ctrl+G
3. Go to Replace tab and type "|" (without qoutes ofcourse). Click on "More" button, and then click on "Special" button. Select Manual Line Break option from the drop down menu.
4.Click on REPLACE ALL button. Wait until all words are arranged in one word per line format.
5.Save the filename as wordlist.txt. Move it to your sdcard.
6.Open the UDM application(ON your Custom ROM). Click on Import. Select "external- TXT file" option. CLick next. Wait until all words are imported to your dictionary.
Note:
If you like UDM app, please rate it. Give respect to the devs.
If you found my post helpful, please don't forget to click the THANKS button.
This method is tested on HTC One X(endeavoru) but it should work on other HTC devices too.

Default Launcher

Look at my screen shot! I now have a default Launcher option in my "Default apps" settings! I did the adb thing to remove the Huawei default launcher so I could use the Nova launcher but after I did that i could not change my lock screen password back to no password so I did a "Reset all settings" (No data or documents will be deleted) Well, my phone went back to Chinese language and thought I was screwed so I blindly found the language settings for gboard I got english back. This is when I notice the change. I'm not sure if that button showed up after deleting the Huawei launcher...
