what is the status of tether with tmobile LG G5? - T-Mobile LG G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

I was thinking about getting an LG G5 to use with Tmobile. What is the status of being able to tether with LG G5 on tmobile? Do you need a separate subscription to tether? is there a hack to hide tether data? is the tether setting accessible on tmobile lg g5 or do you need some sort of hack?
sorry for the basic question as i am coming from sprint .. thanks.

I have a few of them for the kiddos on T-Mobile postpaid family plan. Tethering and hotspot work fine for me. I've used them to tether on the PC without issue when the internet has gone down or for troubleshooting. Hotspot works well too. I bought them all used from ebay awhile back. Most if not all were T-Mobile G5's.

So do you have to pay additional fee for tethering or is there a hack to get it working? I am paying $55/month on sprint and they want another $30 for the hotspot. Luckily, thanks to this formum, i was able to get the tether hack working on my phone so don't have to subscript to their hotspot plan.

No fees but I don't use it heavily either. I'm on a postpaid plan not a prepaid so there might be a difference.

[Q] GSM Model, Unlimited T-Mobile Data and Tethering

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has jumped on the new T-mobile Unlimited Value plan, and if your are able to tether using the built in tethering setting? I see that tethering is not a feature that is supported with this plan, and I was wondering if they were somehow able to see if you are tethering the data or not. My gut says no, but I just wanted to see if anyone has tried it out yet. Currently on their pre-paid $30 5GB of data plan, and it works just fine. Thanks!
if you have a rooted GN running CM or say AOKP you should be able to tether without problems from my understanding. I am not sure yet if it is stopped since i do not know anyone that has the data plan and uses a GN. The other thing is to get the data plan you would have move from your pre paid plan to a contract.

Metro PCS with T-Mobile GS3

Ok, so I recently bought a Samsung GS3 from my sister that has T-mobile. I took it to metro and they unlocked it and activated it for me. I chose the $50 Plan which gives me 2.5gb of Blazing Fast Internet. I also purchased the mobile hotspot. When I reached 2.5gb of data, it slowed down. I tether to play xbox. Unable to afford legit internet lol. Before, I was able to tether with my LG Motion 4g for free!. I never lagged as much, I was able to connect my tablet and ran with some smooth speeds. (with the $50 Plan). So I called and managed to call metro pcs and they were able to change it back to the lg motion. My speeds were still slow!. I asked them if I can change it to the $60 plan since it was unlimited and they said that Tethering is not compatible? Is there a way to have Unlimited Data and tether at the same time? I don't want to pay for Unlimited Data without being able to tether to my other devices. HELP!
You can't add tether to the $60 plan, but you may be able to tether if you flash roms with native tether enabled, or search and find other ways to tether.. And on a side note, they did not unlock your device, all T-Mobile phones are compatible with metroPCS

[Q] Mobile HotSpot vs WiFi Tether app?

Hi T-Mobile-ites!
I'm considering switching to T-Mobile but I have a question about the 2.5gb Mobile HotSpot vs unlimited 4G. I want unlimited 4G hotspot and wonder if anyone is doing this not through the Mobile HotSpot app, but rather through a stand alone WiFi app such as WiFi tether router by Fabio Grasso? Does T-mobile block this form of hotspot?
I'm currently on a grandfathered unlimited plan with another carrier but its pricey. I won't switch to T-Mobile or anyone else if I can't get unlimited hotspot for my laptop, streaming internet video, etc.
Thanks!
I came to tmobile from att from a grandfathered unl plan. They have started instating a 5gb limit on those plans. Truly unlimited for tmo is only 70 bucks plus what ever you are paying for your phone. Say roughly 90. Plus with the unlimited you still get 2.5 of hotspot. I am looking into right now if with a third party app you can get around the Hotspot limit.

Tethering?

Anyone know how to enable tethering or if any tethering apps work?

Week that work w/out a tethering plan?

no, but try foxfi, that's what I used before I moved to 30gb data plan
Tethering:
Most AT&T plans allow for mobile data sharing anymore. Even if your grandfathered in to the old "unlimited" plans. I've attached screen shots to the built in tethering functionality of the Note 4. Let me know if this works for you or if it's not what you're looking for.

Just because you see it there in the settings doesn't mean it will work for the old unlimited plan. The phone usually calls 'home' and checks to see what plan you're on before tethering is enabled.

Right. I understand that. It worked for me when I was under the old "unlimited" plan. That's why I said that. Is it not working for you?
So wifi tethering works and you don't get some message stating that you need contact AT&T to enable this feature? I have the grandfathered unlimited data plan and I usually tether with my i717. I don't want any issues with this feature if and when I get this phone.
I am no longer on the unlimited plan but yes, it worked stock when I was on the unlimited plan using android.
I'm grandfathered in the unlimited and it does not work. It tells me to call att. That is weird that it worked for you when you had the unlimited plan.

I'm still waiting for my note 4 pre-order from Best Buy lol. If tethering works on the old unlimited plan that is awesome.
I'm on the old unlimited plan and it doesn't work for me.
Well I tried foxfi/pdanet and easytether and they both work with bt tether... For some reason WiFi still tells you to call att...

I just changed over within the last 3 months or so to another plan but I have been using tethering out of the box on stock for a while now. Not sure why they're not letting you. As far as the old "unlimited" plan goes, I found that after 5gigs, they throttled my speeds down to less than 1mbps downstream. I changed to 10gigs per month and have had no issues, throttling or tethering.
I am still on the unlimited plan and have never been able to natively tether without root/custom rom or using something like foxfi. It results in the message you got if tried. Last time I checked with att they tried to charge me 20$ extra a month for tethering, or switching to another data plan.

any confirmed wifi tethering solutions yet for those of us whose plans do not allow it?
Yeah I should have mentioned in the op that I have unlimited data. On my current Android with root the tethering works fine. Was honestly considering a iPhone 6+ if there are no solutions out there for this. With jailbreak on that device I know the tethering works fine on unlimited data.
Reality is a shame that there is no root solution out
If you had an unlimited data plan, you certainly shouldn't be able to turn on tethering as it was never part of that data package. It was a separate add-on (I think for another $20) in order to enable tethering, and even then, it would only give you like 5GB or some small amount like that.
Had to root to get around the call home in order to do that.
That being said I haven't heard people try too much on the Note 4 since most people do have the newer plans that include tethering. I remember hearing that FoxFi still worked, but not sure on the Note 4.
hi guys
I have a AT&T version unlocked and use it on Tmobile network... how can I enable the this feature ?? I tried but it keep saying no network connection or invalid sim ??
Hey Everyone,
Just had a friend get Note 4 from ebay and it appears to be AT&T.
Anyway with the Australian SIM in when tries to Wifi Tether it give an error.
Is their anyway to fix this what about Custom ROM ?

Switching to 975u1 firmware for hotspot?? Or root?

I have the n975u from at&t, the hotspot built it won't work since I don't use their limited plans. I use PDAnet app for hotspot on my laptop which is great but it doesn't work to allow me to game on my nintendo Switch. If I flash to the N975U1 at&t firmware will I be able to use the native built in hotspot? If not can I just root and do something?
RESOLVED: SImply flash the XAA N975U1 firmware and you can use the hotspot, and retain VOLTE and lose the bloatware.

Three things...
Your saying your plan with AT&T does not include hotspot functionality. Flashing U1 will not change this, your line is simply not provisioned for it by AT&T.
What your trying to do is theft of service (IMHO I view it more borderline, but still any topic dealing with theft of service no matter why is not allowed here) by trying to get a feature that is not included in your plan and by extension you are not paying for.
No root method exists for the N975U and N975U1 at this time. However this was mentioned, though I have zero details or info about it.
Simplest solution is to upgrade your cellular plan to one that has hotspot data included.
AT&T postpaid unlimited plans (except starter plan) have hotspot included.
AT&T Prepaid Unlimited Plus has hotspot included (10gb) - AT&T Prepaid Unlimited plan has hotspot, but it is as an add-on item

Your line must have had it already then... I've never heard of (or through personal experience had) this working unless the line was provisioned for it.
Though I do find it weird that your talking about wanting to do hotspot tethering with your phone on a limited data plan. I still suggest you switch to an unlimited data plan, especially if your wanting to use your Switch.
