How to link the nokia 8.1 screen with mirrorlink enabled device(Volkswagen Audio) - Nokia 8.1 Questions & Answers

Hello coding gurus/ android masters,
I am trying to connect my nokia 8.1 with my car audio enabled with Mirror link, getting error "Device Not Supported"
Can any please suggest the way to connect my Nokia and share the screen.
Also while on normal call, not able to connect internet.
Thanks
Sudhakar

MirrorLink is a dead standard and Nokia was never one of their partners. Does your head unit support Android Auto? I believe just about any modern Android device can use AA.

Another thing that doesnt work with this phone - car connectivity.
(I am not going to replace the $30k car because of the lousy $300 phone).
So far the list of things my new Nokia 8.1 sucks at:
-wifi problems (disconnecting from some APs)
-bluetooth problems (Samsung gear watch doesnt work)
-car connectivity (mirrorlink)

Actually both claims are absolutely wrong.
1) Mirrolink is still used by lots of car manufacturers (in OEM devices). Android Auto is still unsupported in most regions.
2) Nokia was the one who "invented" mirrorlink, not just a partner.
MirrorLink started out as a research project. Researcher Jörg Brakensiek, from Nokia Research Center in Palo Alto, US, took results from the noBounds! project—invented by researcher Bernd Steinke from the Nokia Research Center in Bochum, Germany—and applied them to the automotive domain.
The collaboration between Nokia and CE4A on Terminal Mode led to the formation of the Car Connectivity Consortium. The Car Connectivity Consortium brought together major players in the automotive and mobile device industries including a large number of Tier-I suppliers and even a few network providers. On 12 September 2011, Terminal Mode was renamed as MirrorLink and became a commercial trademark owned by the Car Connectivity Consortium.

You've got me there, I was consulting Mirrorlink's official website and there's no Nokia *Android* participation -- they came up with it back when they were making Windows Phones more or less exclusively. As far as whether it's dead or not, though, I don't think the interesting question is whether cars are still including it, but whether *phones* are including it. After all, driving a 3-year-old car is really nice, but using a 3-year-old phone is frustrating at best. Are manufacturers still supporting Mirrorlink in current-production phones?

FM Radio for HTC Wizard

Ok so this is my first post here, so if I drop a clanger, please bear with me.
I've got an HTC Wizard (T Mobile Vario etc) but there is something I'm really missing.
Does anyone know of anybody that makes & sells a wired hands free kit with a built in FM Tuner? I would have preferred a built in FM radio in the phone (yes I know, I should have got an Atom), but I didnt & now I have to live with it.
I know Nokia & Sony Ericsson do external tuners for their phones. It should be easy with an Wizard because the only connections are via jack sockets.
I have turned EBay upside down looking for this type of thing, but all I can find are cheap looking plasticy things from China that run on watch batteries! I was looking for something a bit more up market.
I'm sure I can't be the only person in the world that
wants an FM radio bolt on for their Wizard!?
Or am I???????????????????????????????????????
you can get a fm radio sdio card which would add fm radio to all pda's with a sdio slot
the Wizard uses MiniSD, and as such won't work with any SD I/O cards. Afaik, you can't get an SD I/O > MiniSD converter either?
This is not good news. I too have seen the SDIO cards. I think all they do is bleed power from the device, rateher than being truely integrated. But never seen a mini SD devive
Anyone seen anything combined into a headset?????
Plenty of radios that are basically stuck on a plug and two earbuds;
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002EQXFK.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
But I don't know if they work together with the Wizard for e.g. voice commands (which I personally don't use, so doesn't matter to me)
Yes I am aware of the type of radio that you mention. As I said in my original post "I know Nokia & Sony Ericsson do external tuners for their phones". Problem is they dont have the correct plug to use with a wizard (ie 4 conector, 2.5mm jack plug) which is what you need to listen to MP3 music (for example) then maybe switch to a phone call & then listen to the radio all using the same headset. The Motorola one is close, but the pins on the jack plug are not correct Something like this would be great, ie a headset (with microphone) + a radio. Am I asking for too much?????

I guess you are
Could take some cutters and a soldering iron and work some magic with that :>
Hi, have a look on the following link, it is the one i am using.

N I C E !
It almost fits the bill. If only it could use the bluetooth connection to use the MP3 player on your phone (in stereo of course). I think I need one of these N*k*a (sorry I nearly swore) & A2DP. Assuming the T Mobile ROM ever turns up will A2DP work on a wizard?
Why is it that the BIG 3 phone companies look after their phones with good accessories? Come on HTC, your phones are great, but they need to branch out & support the phone range with some add on goodies.

You're right about that. I had an SDIO WiFi card for my magician. Whereas the battery would normally last a few days, it would be dead within an hour with the WiFi card in.
Hello any news on this yet?
Hi,
I have been searching around for something like this too. Unfortunately no luck.
Any of you guys find something interesting?
rohseq
Sadly not. I too am still searching the internet for something, but so far nothing that matches the criteria has popped up. Its becoming more & more annoying :x Every time I see something its a specific product for one of the big phone manufacturers. Clearly they put a value on selling accessories (presumably for a good profit) to enhance their phones, whereas most Windows powered phone owners are left to fend for themselves with stuff off fleabay.
Makes me wonder if its worth going down this route again So far I have had an original SPV, E200, C500, C550 & now a Vario (Wizard). Next time around I might go back to the big "N" & enjoy the benefits of buying something from a fully supported product range.

Android UI mirror to car stereo head unit

Can't recall but I'm pretty sure someone here posted a link of a car stereo head unit replacement kit that will mirror the Androids UI when connected. I searched but couldn't find it.
As much as I like the bluetooth option, I dislike the fact that I can't control my phone via my car stereo.
If someone can point out that post or knows what I'm talking about could you please provide the link.
Just to make some things clear: The unit I speak of is not a stand alone unit with its own built in android os, it actually mirrors the ui of the android phone connected to it. I believe the kit comes with 5" & 7" displays.

I did see that one earlier unfortunately, the company is still working on an Android version. The one I did see was around $200+, this one is over $500.
Found it: http://www.customgadz.com/store/product.php?id_product=16
It's only in pre-order status as of now but if you do in fact pre-order then they'll throw in free of charge a choice of the following:
1) 6.5" or 7" or 8" touch screen
2) OEM switcher add-on type A or type B (*not to sure what those are or what they do*)
The price is listed as AU $169.95 which is USD $178.61
@ryandoubleu: Your post was correct this is in fact the Mimics system.
Android car device
There is an Android 2.2 800Mhz 256MB 8GB 6,2" TFT CAR DVD on sale (800 USD to door in Russia) that I have bought recently and after some software installations it does deliver what I have wanted to have in the car.
Nevertheless there are a few major complaints to its performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cx53a6N7_ws
As well there are several other minor things that would be great to change if possible.
If there is someone interested and able to cook a custom ROM for this device - I can send this device for free as a gift and for experiments. We really want a good ROM for this CA-Fi Car Stereo and the guy's in China don't seem caring enough.
I will check this thread once in a while and provide contact details for anyone interested in developing this device. It is very close to being a great thing for a CAR!
I have updated my email in the XDA profile so you can as well use this option to contact me.
PS
I Have a ROM update file (192MB) that came from the device vendor (dealer). I can send it out for revision.
The way to install this rom on the car stereo is to extract files to the root of a microSD card, insert it, switch off the device, then, while holding the screen tapped, power on – the device starts an install mode. When finished it asks for screen calibration and restarts with a new rom as after a hard reset (erases everything).

Mirror-link??

Does the ATT G4 support Mirror-Link? I plan on getting Pioneer head-unit that does the mirror-link and was wondering if the G4 does.
not according to their website: http://www.mirrorlink.com/phones
Mirrorlink sucks. At least in the US. I install car electronics for a big box retailer, and have used most of the pioneer touchscreen head units. The best option is to get something with an HDMI input that supports "AppRadio Mode". With this, you can use an app called 'AR Unchained Reloaded' to mirror your phone screen to the head unit and have full control of your phone from the head unit's touchscreen.
Then there's "AppRadio One" mode which lets your use limited apps thru USB connection in a decent pioneer OS interface. Problem with this is you can't listen to AM/FM/CD/Sirius/XM when you're in app mode.
IMHO if you're in the US, mirrorlink isn't even an option. No app support yet, its mostly euro apps that I got to work with the head units.
But for what it's worth, yes (at least my Sprint) G4 does indeed support mirrorlink. I have used it.

2018 Subaru Outback

Hello Everyone,
I traded in my 2014 Subaru Outback for a new 2018 Outback. In my 2014, I removed the original stereo unit and put in a fantastic Android HU with SYGIC GPS, that unfortunately won't fit in my new car. (The old unit is for sale, just sayin')
For the past two weeks, I've been looking to replace the crappy "Starlink" unit in my new 2018, but I'm having difficulty finding one that will install with the current faceplate. I contacted the company that I bought the original one from, and they said that their engineers are working on it, and will take about 6-8 weeks to come up with one. Has anyone found a suitable HU for a 2018 Outback? The issue I have with the HU that came with the car is that the only way to communicate with it is through Bluetooth using a smart phone via the USB input or with Bluetooth. That means wires. It also means having a smart phone, which I don't and NEVER wanted to have. I use the original Motorola V3 RAZR Flip Phones for a number of reasons, and they work just fine.
OR - Does anyone know how I can hack into this "Starlink" unit that came with my car? All I want to do is perhaps root it, or at least install some of my own apps and also to be able to use my hotspot and download stuff. There has to be a 'code' or certain buttons to press to get into this machine, but I haven't been able to find anyone smart enough to figure this one out. I'd be happy to compensate anyone who can help. I did just that with the older HU, so if you can help, just let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Upgrading an old car with connected Tech

I have an old Maruti Swift 2012 model. I want to install it with latest connected car tech such as remote start stop and switching on the AC remotely. These features are available in new cars.
I would like to know from the forum members if this is possible or if if any one has tried it on their vehicles and the cost involved.
