Wifi Calling, Verizon Pixel 2XL, using Straight Talk AT&T Sim no option - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Hey all, I've been pouring over the forums here and other places trying to find a solution to my issue. I just got a Pixel 2XL the verizon version and I'm using it on Straight Talk with an AT&T sim card. So far so good except I cannot get wifi calling. I'm pure stock, android 9/Pie, no bootloader unlocks/rooting etc. The wifi calling option does not exist in the phone app nor in the settings anywhere. Even when you search for wifi calling, it simply takes you to the network and connections section of settings but wifi calling is no where to be found. I've tried the adb command (the one that apparently used to work on Oreo but not longer does on Pie) and that didn't work (though I didn't expect it to since many people said it no longer works on Pie). I have an Unlocked Note 9 as well and its wifi calling works perfectly fine so does anyone have a way to make this work? Reception at my home is somewhat lacking and I really need wifi calling.
Thanks!

Could you attach a screenshot with the WHOLE section of "Mobile Network", found inside of "Network & Internet" in the Settings -- make sure that you click on the drop down menu next to "Advanced Calling" -- this will help make sure that wifi calling is really missing as well as might point something out that may help with a solution. Moreso, personally, because I can't even imagine what the settings menu looks like missing this...

It might be a long shot but try checking the settings in the Google phone app. There should be a place that says configure IMS calling. I have this setting here and in the network settings. If you have it that's where you can enable wifi calling.

Been there done that. I have no options for setting up IMS calling. I only have SIP options. Also, I have tried the phone dialer trick (where you dial *#*#4636#*#*) and that shows the wifi calling option as a toggle but its greyed out and cannot be enabled. I even tried an adb trick that used to work on the 1st gen pixels, but to no avail.

What happens when you enter your information here?
I'll have to initiate a chat with Straight Talk. Like you I have a Pixel 2 XL with a Straight Talk AT&T SIM. The only difference is that mine is unlocked. I just ran my phone number and the IMEI of the SIM through the linked site and it tells me my device is not compatible. Since I have a BYOP SIM and the IMEI is of the SIM itself, chances are high that the SIM needs replacing with one that includes WiFi calling support.
EDIT: According to the representative I just spoke with, there's no guarantee that changing to a newer AT&T SIM will enable the feature. The only guaranteed method according to tech support is switching to a T-Mobile SIM.

Hey thanks for the help. I tried that link as well (before I posted here; sorry I should have mentioned it) and it said my device is also not compatible. I initiated a chat with them and they told me the same; switch to T-Mobile. I am tempted to do so but the one thing holding me back is my home is already a place I get poor signal and T-mobile's coverage while much improved still isn't as good at AT&T's. I realize that having wifi calling would fix any lingering signal issues but I do manage to get 1-2 bars of 3G at my house with AT&T, I figure I won't even get that with T-Mobile. So I am weary of the switch. I'll have to consider it though. I could also wait for the full rollout of the latest google voice (since it finally is bring VOIP without the need of hangouts) and just use that number instead.

So I contacted Straight Talk and ordered a T-Mobile sim card. It'll be here in a few days. I will post my findings after it arrives. Straight talk support says wifi calling works with all T-Mobile sim cards so we will see.

Hello all,
Okay, so I finally got switched over to a T-Mobile sim card (again still with straight talk). It took a while cause I had to buy a new one (the old one I had expired; who'd have thought?). Anyways, switching to T-Mobile solved all my problems and then some. Not only do I have Wifi calling, but also HD voice, VOLTE, Tethering, and 3-4 bars of LTE (previously on AT&T, I got 1-2 bars of 3G). I realize the signal issues is merely a coverage thing but I can say with certainty that switching to a T-Mobile sim card will give you all the advanced features. I hope this helps others who might experience this problem. I've been using AT&T (in one form or another) for the better part of a decade and can now honestly say, AT&T sucks.

Wifi calling

So is it possible to enable wifi calling and/or VoLte on stock 8.1 rooted or any firmware of the pixel without being on Verizon? I am on AT&T so just wondering if there is a mod or something I can do to enable it.
Magisk has a module that can do that; VoEnabler .... this module will enable access to the features in the pixel, in Dialer, settings, etc. * but that doesn't mean you can actually use them;
First, check that your carrier/service actually supports the feature .... You can check with a secret code though; in Dialer;
*#*#4636#*#*
Then navigate to "Phone Information"... from there scroll down;
you should see the stuff for VOLTE, Wifi Calling, Video Calling, etc. If it's enabled then you may be good to go..
but if your carrier doesn't support it - enabling it via VoEnabler will do nothing to change that.
Also, I don't know about the US, but in Canada - some carriers (under some plans) do charge extra for this stuff.

Sort of this. Basically AT&T will not support VoLTE or WiFi calling on any unbranded unlocked devices brought onto their network. Never worked on my T-Mobile Note 4 nor my Google purchased Pixel XL. I was a long time subscriber to their service but once my dependency on MMS messaging increased I had no choice but to switch to another carrier. I wound up on Verizon after a brief time with T-Mobile. Both support full functionality of these devices.

Before installing magisk I dialed that number and they were all greyed out, I installed magisk installed the module and now VoLte and Wifi calling are both enabled in that menu and in the settings menu. I tested wifi calling and it worked. So maybe just need the module installed and it will work. That's what worked for me.

Cool. glad to hear my advice helped... but also using the secret code in the Dialer would've verified if your carrier supports it on their network, beforehand; that's why I posted in that step...
also, just as a reminder; I'd make sure that there aren't any hidden fees associated with using those features, I don't know much about US carriers; aside from that they are (generally) against Net Neutrality.... But I know with my particular carrier, in Canada; If i wasn't using the plan that I am on; they would be charging me extra - and it would add up quick... so best to double check, maybe.

I came to this phone from a s7 edge that had VoLTe and Wifi calling on it never got charged for anything, would it be different with a non carrier phone?

I have no idea: I live in Canada and have never dealt with US carriers ~ that's something that you will need to verify on your own. Some may allow it; some may not... you guys do things quite a bit different south of the border, so I just don't know....
You should be able to find that out in the support/QA area of your Carrier's website ~ if not there, you can ask them directly.
but yeah, obviously, if it was working on your S7 - then your network supports it....
Hello, I am on Vodafone UK, recently my area is getting poor 4G coverage so the vodafone tech guy asked me to shift on wifi calling inside the house. He enabled it from carrier perpective but I have to enable it on handset as well. I struggled to find the option. Now using the secret code above I can see I have wifi calling option greyed out. btw, I am on stock android 8.1. What is the best and least intrusive way to get the wifi calling working on my handset.
I am not a developer but have experience with root on previous devices. If I have to install Magisk( is there a non-root option?) what module etc I need to install to get this working please..

Flash magisk and get the module called VoEnabler just sear h VoLte in the search bar it should pop up then after it installs restart phone and you should have the options.
Hi Praveenjohri - did you get this to work?
I too have a Pixel XL and on Vodafone UK; again the wifi calling option is greyed out.
Any layman guides as to how to Flash magisk and go about enabling this? Thanks in advance

How do I enable wi-fi calling on sprint?

I've called both Sprint and HTC and they point the finger at each other or think I cant read the menus. They tell me to go to the Sprint store which is in another town. I've called them multiple time over the past year. The M8 and M9 could do it why cant this still current high end model do it? I really could use wifi calling as my new employer has real bad signal but good wifi. I'm open to rooting/modding, as a last effort I 'upgraded' to Oreo and I'm not thrilled with it.
There is no mention of advanced calling or wi-fi calling in any of the settings menu. I do find internet calling, but I don't think that is the same. Help is greatly appreciated.

I've just started looking into this as well. For a short time I had a Verizon branded HTC-10 and that was GSM. It showed the Advanced Calling sub menu and configuration for WiFi calling. But my Sprint CDMA version does not. It appears to be locked. I've read elsewhere that unlocking the phone will "open it up" such that WiFi calling is available. But, it's no guarantee that you'll be able to use it. You have to check with your carrier's administrator. In my case, I'm with Ting and they're an MVNO for Sprint.

Sprint Moto Z2 Force on Ting (WiFi Calling Missing)

I recently purchased a new Sprint Z2 Force and activated it on Ting (it has only ever been on Ting and never on Sprint directly). Both Sprint and Ting support WiFi calling on this phone, but WiFi calling is not listed under the WiFi settings or in the Call settings of the dialer. However if I search in the settings for WiFi calling, I can see a WiFi Calling Settings in the App Info section, yet there is no way to turn it on or open those settings. I have updated the profile multiple times and also did a factory reset.
Am I missing something or is there something missing in the software since it never got activated directly on Sprint?
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
I do the custom rom thing and i sort of remember it just being there however, if you have not already checked "Mobile Networks" - under main phone settings, select "Network & Internet" once there, select "Mobile Network" - you'll see your carrier stuff/APN there I believe if you select "enhanced 4G LTE Mode" (you may have to make LTE you're preferred network mode in order to enable and/or display that option, again this was already there on mine. But see if that opened up any new menu items elsewhere i.e. back in the dialer app settings under "calls".
Did your phone come with a sprint SIM? Do you have the other carrier bloatware on there like Sprint ID? I know what you meant earlier about a possible software bypass, but all of that stuff is deff on the phone somewhere like you observed in App info, it may just be a matter of popping in a sprint SIM card to unleash it..
I continued to look into this for you. Sprint's name for Wifi calling is, well was -"Calling Plus". I found this article that advises one of the recent update removed the feature;
https://community.sprint.com/t5/Buz...alling-PLUS-Service-Decommission/ba-p/1017775
Since you got the sprint version you still have lots of software modification options. I also have sprint z2 foce, but I get better coverage on a GSM netwrok so my device is half sprint\half tmobile and I can deff say the wifi calling works. There's tons of information on here I can always help direct ya, but at least you're not crazy it WAS there.
lastly just to be sure, this has to be done prior,
"Log into your Ting account online and go to Device settings. Find the device you want to enable Wi-Fi calling for and click the edit icon in the Minutes section."

Thank you for all the info so far! Here are some answers and additional info:
My phone did come with a Sprint Sim in it and that is the one I am using. Also there is not any of the Sprint Bloatware on the phone. If I search "Sprint" in my settings area, there is a My Sprint Launcher that is listed as Disabled and there seems to be no way to enable it, which is similar to the WiFi Calling Settings that shows up when I do a search for it in the settings. Also if I look at the Apps and "Show System" apps, Mobile ID is there which is the Sprint ID software I believe, but again it is Disabled with no option to enable it.
The WiFi calling is turned on in the Ting account.
The Calling Plus feature was disabled by Sprint in that link you shared, but that just disables WiFi calling over LTE. It does say regular WiFi Calling should be available.
On my phone when I go to Network & Internet > Cellular Networks> I see my Preferred Network Type which was Automatic, I switched it to LTE/CDMA. That does not seem to have opened any additional settings for me in the dialer or elsewhere.
Thanks again for all your support. If you have any other suggestions, let me know, but you have offered a lot already.

WiFi calling on unlocked p2XL on vzw

I have been trying to figure this out since I got this phone in late 2017. How do I get the wifi calling to work on vzw with my unlocked 2xl? Reading on the internet seems to indicate that there is some software missing for this feature to work with vzw. This 2xl may have wifi calling on T-Mobile for example, but not vzw because it isn't "carrier branded" for vzw. I'm assuming that's some piece of software.
Does anyone know what this is and is it a shareable file that someone could provide and explain where I need to put it in my phone via solid explorer to get the wifi calling working on this phone? I was so excited for that feature when I upgraded from my s4, and have never had it yet. It's one downfall for the unlocked phone.
Anyone? Do I just need to flash a Verizon radio image or something like that?
I have also been trying to do this as well, in that menu, it is not provisioned, does that mean my carrier needs to do something?
Mod Edit: removed portions of quote no longer needed

After setting up android 10, I went to settings>Network & internet > Mobile Network > Advanced, and tapped wifi calling, turned the toggle on and a screen popped up "activate wifi calling;" it required me to enter the emergency location information address.. I pressed save, and wifi calling was activated.
Are you on Verizon with an unlocked pixel 2XL I take it? Were you too unable to get Wi-Fi calling working on Verizon before the Android 10 update?
Is there anyone out there that has information on this? How is vzw locking out bring your own devices from their WiFi calling and several other services? What identifier on the phone are they using and how can it be tricked with root? Are there any Xposed modules that could make this work?

I have my pixel 2xl from google and it's working without issue.
Go to settings, network and internet tap on mobile network and scroll down to advanced and it's at the bottom (above apn settings). That's all I had to do. Nothing special even though I'm rooted it still had nothing to do with root.
Let me know if this helped

Yes, see my post down below
I have been reading and reading and reading on this. I can't find a way to make these carrier services work. What can I do? Here is what I see when I dial *#*#4636#*#* in my dialer.
The options are turned out turned on but greyed out for Wi-Fi calling, video calling, and UT interface. It tells me my IMS registered and voice over LTE is available. Do I need to change any settings in this section of my phone app? Do I have to change my preferred network type to something other than LTE / CDMA automatic, or change my radio band? What about the SIP server?
No one knows of a work around?

This has happen to me a couple times when I was using an essential phone and tried to get WiFi calling to work on it. Once I went back to my unlocked pixel 2xl I had to call the help line and get my "video calling" turned back on. Which in turn re activated my WiFi calling. Just have them check i bet something got turned off on their end.

Can't connect to mobile network.

I have a pixel 3xl, up to date stock non rooted, on straight talk lte/cdma Verizon network. I got a text saying straight talk now has VoLTE so I tried to find it in settings but there's no option for it. When I search it it comes up but when I click it it goes to mobile settings and it's not there I did the *#*#4636#*#* and it's also grayed out there. I changed the network mode in that diag screen to lte/cdma to see if that helped, was on global before i think. Still no VoLTE and for some reason I can't make calls. I have data, can send and receive texts but when I go to call it says no network. Removed Sim card didn't fix it, restarted it. Safe mode doesn't help either. Tired clicking trigger carrier provisioning, updated the smsc. Change mobile network to lte only, back to global, lte/cdma. I have no idea what else to try. Straight talk is basically useless for customer service so I haven't even tried yet lol.
Update!! It works!! Somehow I either damaged my sim card when I switch from my pixel 2xl to this 3xl and it somehow lasted till now. Or when I changed my network settings something wrote to the sim?( And it messed it up?? IDK much about how the phone and sim interact with each other)... But I did have a 2 year old sim card, it did not have VoLTE or wifi calling capabilities I now realize. So I bought a new SIM card at Walmart and activated it though the straight talk app on my account and kept the same number. Works perfectly and I now have VoLTE, no wifi calling yet but the option is now there and lets me click it but it fails. Doesn't matter to me, I'm just happy to have VoLTE. I'm leaving this post because straight has horrible customer service and I could find anyone who ran into this specific issue.
