Old phone worked fine with IFTTT, Pixel 3 XL will not work with IFTTT - Google Pixel 3 XL Themes, Apps, and Mods

I hit up Reddit with this already and received a few "works fine for me" responses. Reached out to IFTTT and received a "if you need help check Reddit" generic response. Whatever.
A super simple and super basic IFTTT function is to take the Bing picture of the day and make it your wallpaper. On my Pixel 3 XL the applet fails 100% of the time saying that it can not find an image at the URL. Granted, http://www.bing.com is NOT an image but instead a URL where the image can be found, but it all worked fine pre-Pixel 3 XL.
Anyone else having this issue? Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue? Am I missing something here? For reference, it appears that NONE of the "image" applets work, like Bing or NASA, etc. I have been able to run a few other applets, so it's not IFTTT in general, but it does seem to point to that URL field and the retrieval of images.

Opera issue, suggestions needed

Hello all,
In the past week, Opera does not want to stay signed in/logged in to any website, including this one.
Example: I go to my iGoogle page, which should normally just come up, but I need to log in. I log in, my page shows up, great. Then I want to go to Gmail from ny iGoogle, and I have to sign in again. If I want to read an e-mail, log in again. If I want to reply to the e-mail I'm reading, log in again. Just to write this question, I had to log in twice, and I'll probably have to to submit it as well. It's getting annoying.
I have no such problems with Skyfire or the built-in IE. I haven't changed any settings, always make sure I check "stay logged in" if the option is available. I did clear cookies and cache about 2 months ago, but there was no difference until last week. The only things I have added lately were a few of brent's coloured icons. I use Clean Ram almost daily, have for months, and have soft reset at least once a week.
I have a Telus TP2 (CDMA), original ROM, using Opera that's built in.
If anyone knows or has suggestions, they would be appreciated.

I'm not positive on this one, but I'd suspect that Opera's "turbo mode" might be stripping your saved login info...it routes all website data through their servers, so there's a chance that login info won't be persistent through that. To disable that for testing this, just select the "options" menu in Opera, and then un-select the "Opera Turbo" option near the top...then see if once you login one more time, it still doesn't retain that for you.
Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't change a thing. Had to log in 3 times just to get to this page, very frustrating.
Side note, the "options" menu wasn't where you said it was. I still found it using the search function in "opera:config". Maybe my particular build of 9.5.
Anyone else care to take a shot at it? Or should I just go to a newer version of Opera, and will it overwrite the existing one so it's the default?

Ahh yes I'd assumed you were on 9.7 or higher, didn't realize any versions of the TP2 had 9.5 as the default version.
As I understand it, installing any version of Opera subsequent to the one installed by default on your stock ROM will actually create a completely new discreet install of the new version, and the original will still be on there...that's what happend when I installed 10.
More info can be found on my signature link
Thank you, orb3000, however, you have more than one clickable link in your signature, one of them I obviously was able to eliminate. The Opera thread has 186+ pages, and while I would love to have the time to slog through it, even a search of it yielded no results for my particular predicament.
A hint on approximately which one of those many pages would be appreciated.

[Q] Forwarded emails attached as .eml instead of appearing as in-line text...?

Hello All,
I've looked around on XDA and gone through many pages of Google search results to no avail...I've seen several folks complain about this issue, but I've yet to find a solution, or even a hint of one.
When forwarding an email, my EVO sends the email string as an attachment in .eml format, instead of as in-line text. So, the recipient of the forward can only read the email string on their desktop client (such as Outlook), but not on their device. On the device, they only see my EVO email signature, and the actual email string I want them to be able to read is attached as .eml, which the device can't read.
I have been able to recreate this same issue on EVO's and on Droid X's, all stock, using the stock email application. Poking around the 'net, it seems to be a general issue with Android, as I saw several N1 users reporting the same issue. I believe I saw somewhere that Touchdown does not have this issue, but I'd prefer not to go that route.
All devices are in a corporate environment, syncing with Exchange.
If you are reading this and have not heard of a solution, please say as much. If you have seen a solution, by all means post it!
Thanks to all.
Workaround
Well, after letting my question hang for a couple of days, and poking around the internet a while longer, it seems this is an unresolved issue with 2.2.
Here's to hoping 2.3 fixes this, but in the meantime, I've stumbled across a workaround: instead of forwarding the message to a recipient, hit Reply and change the destination address to the one you want, and everything in the original message stays intact.
Interesting bug.

[Q] Quick Command crashing

Hallo,
I got a new note 2. Everything is working perfectly except the quick command. I can start it, write on it and then nothing. It just crash and I am back to the home screen. I cannot create new command. Nothing works. The S-Pen works beatifully in all other apps, everything else seems fine. I got the latest update Samsung pushed out. Any idea or suggestions? Anyone seen that?
Thanks in advance,
Umberto
Have you been able to get this working?
Quick command has never worked for me. I did some searching and found that someone had determined that Quick Command working was related to the Google account on the device. Specifically, synching with contacts caused it to fail.
I was able to reproduce this, and was somewhat surprised.
If I remove my Google account from the phone, Quick Command works!
If I add my Google account back, Quick Command works until I allow it to synchronize contacts. Once it does, it fails again.
I've gone through my Contacts, cleaned up duplicates, removed some unusual entries such as those with unusual characters, missing names, XML in the notes section. From what I can tell, it all seems pretty clean, but there is apparently *something* that causes Quick Command to choke when looking through the contacts.
Wondering if anyone else has had this issue or has any idea of a workaround to get this working.
Thanks!

Hi,
Actually yes. Ist your google account. I was able to get it working removing all accounts without a name (or first or last name). I had quite a lot of accounts with just a telephone or an email. Removing those it worked perfectly. Please do a backup of your contacts before trying. I am not responsible if you loose your contacts
Let me know if it works!

So weird...I've gone though everything I could think of, and it's still not working correctly. Do you recall anything unusual in your contacts in particular that you fixed? I've even gone through and made sure every single one has a first name and last name.
I don't even think I would use this feature much....But I'm on a mission now!

Google Assistant & Nest/LIFX

Anyone had any luck with the above?
Tried it a couple of times and Google Assistant just sat thinking which is less than Ok Google would do on my Note 7, that just googled the phrase I was using instead. I'd expect given that this and Nest are both Google devices that it'd be baked in pretty well but it doesn't seem like it.
I read about something about this and also used the support and the nest support. They are aware of this and I think the "fix" or what ever is waiting on the "Google Home" app. I guess this is what you get when you get a phone early and the other devices come after. I do miss my "Set temp to 72!" so I guess we wait a few weeks and pray everything comes into play.
Is Google Home a new app or does it exist already?

Here ya go. I had to remove IFTTT app from the "optimize battery use" settings or it would fail to link after the initial use. Now it works like a champ.

What did you actually do to make it work? I have IFTTT and I've noticed some recipes but haven't used it extensively, only to make some sound schedules. I've found the Nest channel and connected it. Is it just a case of saying 'Ok Google, set my temperature to X' now?
I set new recipe. Filled in all the blanks. Use # for a number value. Like Set nest at #. I used set nest AT instead of TO in my statement BC sometimes assistant would interpret me meaning 270, and I didn't want to burn down the house. Lol. I also set it up to give me feedback when task was accomplished. Like "Your home is now set to # degrees for you." I used the "number value" in the blank that has the drop down for that.
Sounds complicated here, but just fill out a new recipe in order, and it's a breeze.
Here ya go. Posted them in reverse order though.
Ahh, interesting, I'll have a look later when I'm home and can test.
If you tap the Google Search button on your home screen, then press the mic, Nest commands work. Google Assistant doesn't seem to have support for it yet... makes no sense. Also, I'm not sure if my Home/Away Assist is working. Seemed to work 1 time, but haven't seen the indicator a 2nd time yet in my history.
This worked perfectly. Used the same principle to get the LIFX bulbs working better than they say they do themselves. I can control different rooms rather than just a global on/off.

My watch says it can't answer personal questions.

Hello, all.
When I use Google Assistant on my Huawei Watch 2 and include personal information (e.g. "Take me home."), it gives me the following error message:
Actually, I need permission before I can answer personal questions about you. To change your settings, just open the Google Home app on your phone. Once that's done, ask me again!

This started happening maybe a month back or so. I know that I was able to ask personal questions at first when I got the watch. I have tried looking through the settings on the Google Home app, but I haven't found anything relevant. The watch doesn't even show up as a device alongside my Google Homes, Chromecast, and phone.
I originally had a Nexus 6P, and I recently upgraded to a Pixel 2 XL. I don't know if that has anything to do with what's happening, but I would find that pretty strange. I'm not sure exactly when this started happening, so I don't know if there's any correlation between changing phones and this issue. I just checked, and the watch says the system is up-to-date, and all installed apps are up-to-date.
I was hoping that an update would be pushed to the watch that would fix this, but it's been a long time, and I still have the same issue.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Lets try...
Hi,
lets try the following method:
In your Google App on your Smartphone go to Settings -> Accounts & Privacy -> Google Activity Controls
What does it show here?
Is it the right E-Mail-Address?
If you want to use personalized orders, Google needs to track your information. E.g if you want to say "show me the home rout", it has to analyze, where your home is.
As far as I know, Google does this by checking, where your phone is (via GPS) most of the time - but thats just an idea.
Hope I could help you!

Hello.
I just checked, and the email is correct. All of the options are set to "On."
I guess I should add that when I tell my phone to take me home, that still works fine. Also, my Google Homes know where my work is. So, it shouldn't be an issue where Google isn't able to query for that personal information. I have that enabled for my account. But for some reason, I can't do it from my watch.
Any clue yet?
Did anybody figure out how to fix this?
Many others have posted the exact same problem.
