Tasker Integration: What is the problem? - Samsung Galaxy Watch

TaskS2 seems to be the ONLY solution available for all Samsung watches since the S2. It was developed four years ago, it's buggy, and is not well designed intuitively. This goes for both the watch and companion app on the Android host (phone).
So, why is there no better alternative that has come out since then?
I have some home automation with REST APIs I wrote and run on Raspberry PIs. I use the RESTask plugin for Tasker to make calls to my homeauto api from the phone.
Now I've just gotten my first Samsung watch (the Galaxy Watch) and I've set up TaskS2 to interface with my Tasker tasks. It works..... sometimes (forget the TaskS2 widget, it is useless). One problem I found right away with the TaskS2 task lists is that they won't come up on the watch when you actually need them, and I think that might be because the companion app on the phone gets put to sleep by the Android OS (Samsung S7 w/Oreo).
Are people just not interested watch-to-Tasker integration because it requires Tasker and/or TaskS2 phone app to stay awake all the time and drain battery? Doubt it.
Why no love for Tasker?
I had fairly good Tasker integration on my Pebble back in 2014, and we can't do it on Tizen five years later?

Task S2 works fine and any time I want to use for me.
User must ensure that all needed app are running every time on the phone : Samsung app and all needed compagnon app like this for Task S2, so need to exclude to battery optimisation and grant launch at startup.

Garmin Fenix :

Wear OS : Tasker for Wear
Other Wear OS app : Wear Tasker
So I can not say that Samsung has bad Tasker app and nice app for other than Samsung, no ?

It's not the look of the TaskS2 app on the watch that is a problem. That's fine because it uses the Samsung-developed watch UI (how Samsung renderes a selectable list on the screen -- no style points there for TaskS2). It's how it functions: the way the side menu works. The way the favorites works. The way adding to Favorites works. the way one has to reset the list to get it to behave. etc. The way the widget does NOT work at all! And of the two, the watch app is the better! The phone side TaskS2 app is REALLY bad! It is ALL completely not intuitive and just plain silly.
You don't need to keep replying about how much you love TaskS2. That's not helpful.
This thread asks about at least ONE alternative.

I'm also looking for an alternative.. i'm using a wearOS watch, just because Autowear gives me the needed functionalities..
if there is an alternative to TaskS2, i would consider switching to a samsung gear..

Just got my galaxy watch, and I am really disappointed too with the lack of proper tasker options.
I moved over from pebble, the tasker integration there was the best. You could use the hardware buttons to launch a task. It simply works.
Even the android wear is better than g-wach's tasker.
With the android wear lte, I could launch tasks even away from the phone's Bluetooth range.
With the g-watch's S2, you can't do that. Not sure if this is a samsung g-watch cloud limitation.

New Tasker Integration available for tizen watches
Hi there,
if you are still looking for tasker integrations for Tizen-based watches, go check out the app WatchEvents.
Right now WatchEvents provides events in Tasker that can be triggered from your watch.
Other features will be added soon.

Wow!! it's so awesome!!! where did you get the beta from?
samfirmware.com
yes android cannot even the half of all new functions, no need for apps even when you want to crypt your card, they will kick googles ass man. everything includet what a standard user need. no need for tausends of apps that can to all the same thing.
Thanx Tigrouzen for this great info
Also if you have that firmware or anyone, can check if there is an inbuilt Office editor since i want to buy Picsel smart office...Thanx in advance.
I cant install that firmware since mine is wave 1
@larioteo: Right! Who are so jobless to keep on downloading many bull**** apps like farting app, Fake ECG etc... NO PRODUCTIVITY--> TIME WASTE!!! All useful apps like Ndrive, Picsel smart office, Image editors, apps using GPS(sMove- shows calories burnt, etc..) etc...etc... which mean useful in life are available in bada since long time....Hoping Good memory management with superior multitasking in bada 2.0!

lol yes sir you know it best, tausends like it and you are swimming against the wave, thank you, go to android we will not miss you. better when people like you leave this forum here, you are only disturbing informatical content.
Hola !!!
You need to be tested a new gui to see if you like it.
I can talk you about frame rate like Iphone and voice recognition like a charme, then i dont need to write anything now i use voice engine to make call to write email sms and search !!!
What you want more genious ?
You proposed to return to Bada 1 ?
i dont like homescreen.......everything else is outstanding!!
So now there is only one screen for widgets? Will there be custom widgets like we have now or only pre-installed ones? What is the other blank screen?
when it's is released it's possible to flash even in the s8500 or this is only for s8530 wave2?
@larioteo
Don't attack people talking about android
Dokugogagoji is a good developer who always worked on bada
i remember his useful apps Wave tool, Wave VNC , power on/off tool
so he definitively love bada
@Dokugogagoji
I don't get it
Why do you hate this gui??
it is normal that Samsung put touch wiz 4 on our waves as an update
The GUI looks very good. This is my opinion and I hope we will get the leaked rom for the Wave I soon....
If Samsung has made a good job with the Multitasking and the other things, bada 2.0 will kill android, probably not but I hope Samsung will stay on the bada trip
Best Regards
Schabi
Nah, I'm also not sure about the gui.
Of course I'm really excited and can't wait to get bada 2 on my wave but it looks like there are a lot of toolbars on top and bottom that are wasting space.
And there are also to many bright colors. I love the simple, dark look of bada 1, especially because you can save batterylife with the amoled and it also looks great because the display doesn't look that limited since you can't see the edges of the screen with pure black
But I hope that this is just because the beta-stage or the Wave II firmware (LCD).
And I hope everything can be themed can someone please upload the theme.smt from bada 2?^^
Hi! To everyone that can try bada 2.0: is the sms limit finally gone or still here?
Thanks a lot!
anyone knows when it will be avaible for s8500 ?
Here is the best video review of bada 2.0.1 -
you can create more screens^^
only drag an app to an new one, widgets are deactivated you can download one but they are not accessable, this feature seems to be missing.
and the left pane is the smart pane this are not widgets. it is selectable in menu homescreen ore live pane.
hoping widgets can interact with programs, otherwise one of mine will be useless (wmp remote control)
can somebody test allshare? see if it is improved and supports multitasking.
one thing about multitasking to say, all internal works as ever, and external, there is a point
a developer can decide if the app wil be multitasking capable, he must set it in the manifest.xml multitasking support to yes, if not, then no.
The good thing you can select tools like gps status that they are allowed to turn on gps alone without going to menu. it was after installation automatically addet and it is for version 1.0 as it always was.

Timely - Elegant but simple clock, great clock widget

I'm here to to mention that this is the best clock I've ever seen on Android. It has many functions like puzzles and math to keep you away from sleeping in. I've used it for a week now and I find it pretty useful.

Nope that's all you needed to do! Thank you.
I've unlocked the premium version and I no longer need the shares. If someone else would like to share their link by going into timely, hitting menu then settings, there should be a Share Application which can give you the link to post if you'd like to put it in the thread. :good:
Thanks again to all that helped, I'll continue to maintain the thread and by request I can even swap out my code for one of yours if you would like.
This is a really great clock. I've tried so many and always end back up with the stock clock app. This one finally made me change for good.

More Widget choices!!
If you bore of the timely widget but love the alarm. I like it but it doesnt have weather. One more clock widget (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sunnykwong.freeomc&hl=en) allows many more options for the widget but lets you still open the timly alarm when you touch the clock. It makes it feel just as baked in as the touchiz accuweather widget/clock.
In the settings of "One more clock widget" this tap and display table allows you to open timely as if its part of the widget.

Errors and Issues SW3

hello,
I have the SW3 only since yesterday, but unfortunately I have found many things that make the clock for me not usable. Maybe you will also find solutions to the problems !?
1. Display activation can not be set:
The display of SW3 always goes on when I move my wrist or tap on it. Can you disable that somewhere ??
I go to swim with the clock and every time you touch a drop of water, the clock goes on and there are things unintentionally started.
This is really annoying ...
2. No Sleep recording and no Lifelog functions
As a previous user of a smart band, I do not want to miss the sleep recording and according to the information and work with the SW3. unfortunately
works Lifelog not on the clock and the sleep recording does not work.
Only about Google Fit the steps are counted ...
So I can also display any things from Lifelog leave me like calories, etc ...
3. GPS smartphone without
Currently possible only with the Google My Tracks app. With reasonable Running apps like Endomondo or Runtastic does not work. Here needs to be the Smartphone in the near!
This is really bad! Here probably need to update the app maker.
4. retrieve emails
New incoming emails are displayed, but you can not open the email app on the SW3. I have disabled notifications for mails on the smartphone, but i want to read it on the watch. That is I can not read about the SW3 mails therefore unfortunately. This was for me a reason to buy, and now is not there ...
5. SW3 use as an alarm clock
I would like to use the SW3 as an alarm clock. However, only with vibration. But my phone is not connected in the near or not with the Watch.
Does not work for me also.
In connection with the fact that the charging jack is really a disaster and very very awkward - I'm considering to send the watch back.
Really a shame because the SW3 would have had huge potential ...
Do you have the same problems or Let us understand this or is it one or the other perhaps solutions?
greeting
Deifel
1. Display activation can not be set:
**Agree. Didn't expect that from a smart watch that is announced as water proof.
2. No Sleep recording and no Lifelog functions
**I use Sleep like a Droid. It works great.
3. GPS smartphone without
**This is the first smart watch with GPS. I'm sure soon all those apps will support it.
4. retrieve emails
**I can read full emails in gmail. Are you using a different client?
5. SW3 use as an alarm clock
** I recharge it in the office. Takes about 30minutes. So I sleep with my watch to monitor my sleep
"In connection with the fact that the charging jack is really a disaster and very very awkward - I'm considering to send the watch back.

** awkward indeed. I'm sure soon we'll see charging docks. I'm considering using the original package box for it. But as i charge it in my Office desk, not a big deal.
lack of lifelog sleep was disappointing (may come later when we get a sw50 sony app?)
I use "sleep as android" (SaA) now as it has native android wear support and seems to work well - compared smartband deepsleep stats vs sw3 with SaA and it seem to match up.

beside that very much enjoy sw3 ~ sideloaded some apps over Bluetooth adb to make watch more usable and fun (launcher, calc, games etc, eve towelroot lol). unlocked bootloader so now eagerly awaiting a rom (or about to learn how to build one)
I thought the usb connection "awkwardness" was just me.. yep it'll slowly drive me nuts if we have to charge these things every 24hrs or so (with my usage anyway) with this horrible connection.. see what happens I guess.
having only had a galaxy gear 1 (both os's + custom roms) that I didnt enjoy I can't really complain about much more rhan above really ~ pleasantly surprised and enjoying thoroughly (4 days in)

You can try the Showear app. But I wouldn't swim with mine. IP68 is good for 1 meter, but when you swim you're pushing water on the watch with a lot more pressure than the stationary pressure at 1 meter that it's rated for.

Media widget

Hello
I just installed the Next Launcher,
Id like to implement a widget similar to the one used be the stock rom; whereby if the Radio is playing, the station is shown on the widget, or music playing etc.
Does anyone know where to get this?
Thanks.
I'd like to know that too, but AFAIK that functionality is integrated in the original launcher and cannot be transfered to other launchers.
About the music player, I resorted using another app that has its own widget, but I lost the knob functions:
left knob push: pause play
right knob rotation: move to previous/next
I have the original stock rom and don't use the xposed framework.
Yeah thanks,
No problem, Ill manage without.
You can use the KGL widgets from Android 4.2.2 versions, sure theyre on the fileserver somehwere.
Thanks typos1 for the suggestion.
I found the widget repository:
http://huifei.fs-fileserver.de/content/apps/KGL Widgets/
Going to test them tomorrow on my Eonon with ADWlauncherEx
Tested tonight...
Media player widget works correctly: start/stop/previous/next/time elapsed/length
However no cover shown, song title limited to a few words only.
Radio widget: works almost correctly, only pause button has no effect.
However no station name shown, station frequency only.
Overall, these 2 widgets are relatively small, and it might be difficult to precisely push their buttons especially when driving.

And they don't change automatically when you change sound source. E.g. in JY launcher default fixed "widget" it changes automatically into the radio / player if you change the app. With separate widget for each app you have to overcrowd screen surface keeping both widgets while only one is effective.
I would like if we could have combined widget...
Yes I agree, the best thing would be something like the Klyde or Joyous Launcher's "widget" thats not actually a widget at all but built into the launcher, made into a proper widget, but without the clock (dont need one as its in the notification panel) as I also want other widgets on my homescreen, but the Klyde/Joyous launchers dont allow other widgets.
Unfortunately I cant really code, so its not something I can do, but when I ve got time I do intend to at least try and decompile one of these launchers and try and remove the time bit (and the stupid car apps bit), maybe even try and figure out how to turn them into proper widgets.
(By the way, when I used the KGL widgets I used one per desktop - dont forget as Android is Linux you get several desktops - so you dont have to overcrowd.)

Question Android TV app weirdness or glitch

Hi everyone.
I'm faced with difficulties when I run Android TV remote control app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.tv.remote) on my P6Pro. It appeared to behave like an obsolete app abandoned by its developer - it never opens fullscreen.

I really don't care about that and could live with it as the app works like it should until I leave it foreground and turn off the screen. As soon as I turn my screen back on my phone hangs up and there is no possibility to get to home screen or go back. It happens from time to time, not every time I use it. Power button just turns the screen on/off and my only option is to press power+volume up buttons to reboot the phone.
I remember I was able to adjust full screen behavior for my apps in the previous versions of Android somewhere in settings. Now that option has gone in A12.
Any ideas?
I don't have an Android TV, but I just wanted to let you know your link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.tv.remote doesn't work for me.

Weird. Google must have it blocked unless you actually own one. On both the phone (Wi-Fi and Mobile Data) and the computer the link doesn't work and I can't find that app listed when I search for it by name.
Anyway, I know it's not relevant (I guess), just weird.

Another glitch? Unfortunately not the last one.
BTW, I just tried to open that link in chrome incognito mode
What's going on, Google? Is the app account-specific? Is it not available for everybody?
I just realized what the problem is. The app is really abandoned and it's obvious from my 2nd screen.
"Last updated April 4, 2017"
The reason I like it is an ability to enter login/pass details on my Android TV using my phone screen. This is the feature I was envious of iPhone users for its native integration into Apple TV.
Ok, RIP.
My only options are to get used to manual reboots or Force Stop the app after each use.
My understanding is that "Android TV Remote" is actually obsolete, and its functionality has been incorporated into "Google Home": https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.chromecast.app
The standalone Android TV Remote app has been decommissioned by Google. The functionality has been moved to the Google Home app and is available as a Quick Settings tile

Not a glitch. Stop spreading misinformation. This is a perfect example of why half the complaints on this forum are bogus.
It is a frustrating change though in the very least, because who needs all the bloat of "home" when all you want is a remote control?
Anyway, I just ordered a couple of ADT-3's, which is the "developer" version of ccgtv. I'm tired of being locked out, and I don't give a flying f*** about netturds. Years ago I wrote a remote service for nexus player, which shouldn't be too hard to adapt to ADT-3.

Well, from Google's perspective, it is logical to have it as part of the Google Home app. Android TV/Chromecast is part of the Google Home (devices) ecosystem.
That being said, if you don't want to use the Google Home app, there is an alternative
Android TV Remote - Apps on Google Play
Unofficial Android TV / Google TV remote control. Simple, convenient, complete!

Thanks, I know there are several alternatives by other developers but I always do my best to go google Just figured out how to enable Open Remote button in Google Home app at 3 different android tv boxes I own - Shield Pro, Onn TV and Dynalink TV. I had to manually update Android TV Remote Service to v.5.
Now I've got almost the same features, at least I can still enter text remotely on my phone.
