1440p playback on YouTube - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'd like to address this issues, my device is a H815 AICP rom but it didn't even work with the stock rom before I UsU-ed it.
Sooo it doesn't really show up the 1440p option on YouTube even though it has a 1440p display and used to work but it didn't work since March of last year, it used to buy now it just shows 1080p no matter what video you are trying to watch. Please help ?

No 1080p on Youtube

Has anyone had a issue with youtube not showing any options above 720p. Ive had this problem since I bought this tablet. Have this gorgeous screen and not being able to get 1080p on this device really sucks. I've looked all over and found fix's that have been posted involving like turning off the app in info and uninstalling updates, clearing data and cache, then reinstalling through play store. Unfortunately nothing has worked. Also tried to do a factory reset twice but to no avail. Anyone have this issue or was able to fix it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
What model do you have? Apparently certain models restrict the youtube app from getting 1440p. I own the wifi 10.5 inch model and it gets 1440p.
Yea that's the conclusion I'm coming to. I have the 10.5 LTE from T Mobile. I'm sure I could get around it if I had root access but being I have the SM-807T variant nothing is available yet. I'm pulling the firmware for this variant off of kies tomorrow. Hopefully I can tag chainfire and he'll see it since I can't post in the developer thread yet.
Seeing as yours is the 10.5 also I would of imagined that mine would be supported as well considering only difference is LTE. Same processor same ram etc etc. Such a shame can't seem to get around it. Tried all types of different players. Being such a youtube nerd this is definitely a problem for me. Thank you for the input man I appreciate it
I have the Canadian 805 with exynos and lte and I only have 720 p as well
Hi,
I also have the SM-807T model rooted, but it only shows up to 720p on youtube, has anybody found out how to enable 1080p or 1440?
I have the SM-805y and it does have 1080p

You would need to download xposed and use yourtube or some mod I forget. Then pick the highest quality. If that doesnt work then try changing your build version in build prop editor to 5.0
SM-T805 with Hong Kong latest firmware - I get 1080p videos on youtube.

Hi several question about slowmotion

Hi. I would like to record slowmotion with tab s wifi version.
I checked from this forum that cm12 has this function and works fine. But can I just root it and switch another video camera app from other samsung device like note4? The thing is I have kindle hdx 7 with nexus rom but it doesnt showing 1080p yotube. Im afraid I couldnt watch 1440p with my tab s if I flash cm rom. Thanks have a nice day.
You don't need root to use another camera app. There are plenty available on play store.
Maybe one will have the ability to record slow motion.

Did I miss LG fix this?

I used to have my phone rooted on lolipop. Mainly for that extra video feature of 60fps. I'm pretty sure that was the need for rooting either that or slow motion. But pretty sure it was 60fps. Well anyway I unrooted my phone and went back to marshmallow and just recorded some video today of fireworks. I used UHD mode expecting only 4k video. Turns out I uploaded it to youtube and it was uploaded as 60fps. Any ideas? I'm going to look for an app that shows the full meta data in the meantime to double check this. But I was under the impression the vs986 LG G4 for Verizon didn't record in this format. I could be wrong.

False alarm. Windows 10 shows it's at 29fps. Don't know why youtube upscaled it automatically instead of allowing the 4k. I did forget to mention though that since it uploaded in 60fps to youtube it didn't allow the 4k resolution to be used and is instead maxed out at 1080.

The video has to be uploaded to a higher quality, most videos on YouTube are not higher than 1080p.
I have no issue seeing the 2K resolution when on a video that was uploaded in 2K. See attached photo.
Try the same video I did.

Have you updated your YouTube app?
If so, then the blame falls on Google. I know they have some lists for specific devices and being able to do such capabilities like VP9 playback.
If you are rooted, check this thread out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-patched-youtube-vp9-60fps-playback-t3418216
It's the one I am using, I had no idea it had an effect on 2K resolution too.
I am not rooted stock and waiting for nougar update....okay i will try contacting google fkr a possible sollution
Solveddddd.......i just uninstalled the installed updates to the youtube app
In other words uninstalling youtube from playstore and then trying playing a 2k video give me 2k resolution.. Updated to latest version again....and working

Indeed .. it's missing now.
Do you run stock google ROM ?
When did 1440p stopped working ?
Since last ROM update .. or since last YouTube app update ?
The May 2018 stock ROM did "kill" 1440p ? .. Does it work in June update again ?
Thanks
Is there a way to have 2k again for YouTube?
I'm using the Resurrection Remix ROM
Thank you
Help me, please.
It's very annoying, i can't find a way to fix this issue with YouTube, 2k
Should I try maybe, to run the default rom, before May 2018?
Who's the culprit? Latest YouTube updates, or my custom ROM RR?
Any ideas are welcome, thank you
i am using the stock rom and no more 2k in youtube dont know if it was an app update or a rom patch

I've been wondering about this as well. Not only on my Pixel C, but on my HTC 10 1440p options is long gone. I still use OGYoutube and even on it (an older version of Youtube that doesn't change the resolution so aggresively like the new version does) 1440 is no longer there. I can't test this anywhere else because I'd don't have any monitors with high resolution than 1080p. I guess Google can't afford it on mobile? they need to remake the Youtube app. It's a mess.
There's some settings in YouTube Vanced that allow for the highest resolutions on every device. So now I have 1440p on my pixel C when I am using YouTube Vanced. If you need me to tell you what I did exactly ask and I'll go through the trouble of typing it all down It wasn't me shouldn't be too complicated to figure out
