NFC "Tap and Pay" In-Store Payment Ability Removed by Google since 2014 [Confirmed] - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

NFC "Tap and Pay" In-Store Payment Ability Removed by Google since 2014 [Confirmed]
T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 and variants w/ same NFC chip:
NO In-Store NFC Payment Capability Since 2014One of the factors for which I decided to purchase a Note 3 was its NFC feature. I recall the mention of "at-register payments" and Tap and Pay. I have lived a good chunk of my Note 3 modding time around the idea of having working NFC for two reasons, 1) the prospect of using the NFC writer (functional) and 2) in-store at-register/terminal payments.
To my great long-term disappointment, it is simply not possible with the on-board NFC chip. The reason is that the NFC chip on these Note 3 variants just missed the mark for the new security standards rolled out with the KitKat updates. NFC has multiple standards. The NFC hardware in these Note 3 variants does not have Host Card Emulation (HCE) ability. Google removed the Android Pay compatibility with most of the Galaxy Note 3's in 2014.
Samsung says that the Note 3 can make at-register payments with a special SIM. These seem to be scarce in 2019, but I could be wrong.
Also, the T-Mobile Note 3 NFC chip will not work on Marshallow or above, and will not work on any kernel except for kernels compiled for the "T-Mobile Note 3", no matter if the ROM Dev says "everything is working fine!" in his/her first post. Just do an in-thread search for "NFC" and feel disappointed in much less time that it took me. :crying:
I have read of a couple of instances where people where able to use an NFC/SIM combo on an AT&T Note 3. This dual NFC/SIM card has a "Secured Element". But those seem to be rare these days, and at such a point, you may just want to consider a newer phone (I wish I knew all of this 5 weeks ago).
Summary:
Nice Screen
Great Phone
No In-Store NFC Payments
and
NFC will only work on a real T-Mobile Note 3 kernel
which means Lollipop or below

[UK] Finally, wireless payments?

From The Verge:
"Orange has announced that the Samsung Galaxy S III will receive its Quick Tap mobile payment system starting September 5th. Orange launched Quick Tap over a year ago, but the Galaxy S III is the first Android smartphone to use the system. Orange and Barclaycard provide the Quick Tap service, which they say is available in over 100,000 locations in the UK. The service allows users to make payments of up to £20 without having to enter a PIN.
Like other mobile payment wallets, Galaxy S III owners using Quick Tap in the UK can link up their various debit or credit cards from UK MasterCard or Visa. Orange is offering a £50 bonus credit for new customers when they activate Quick Tap, starting Wednesday."
What are the chances that the apk can be pulled and installed on the Galaxy Nexus? I'm fed up of waiting (for nearly a year) for Google Wallet in the UK.
I've explained a little about it here: http://www.nfcbrief.com/2012/09/orange-first-to-launch-uk-android-nfc.html
I'm assuming that Orange have opted to use the SIM as the secure element. If that's the case, it could be bad news for Nexus owners. I don't think stock AOSP Android has support for SIM secure elements (not 100% sure on this), meaning that, even if you acquired one of these new SIMs from Orange (and downloaded the Quick Tap apk), it likely wouldn't work with the Galaxy Nexus.
Custom ROMs might be able to fix that, though.

OH wow, I really hope this comes to Galaxy Nexus
Just saw your update on the article you posted:
"UPDATE: I've received word from Orange that they will indeed be using new SIMs as the secure element for Quick Tap on Android. This means that the majority of NFC-enabled Android devices will be able to use the application, as long as Orange have approved each device. Notable exceptions likely include the Nexus devices, as it is unclear whether Google have enabled SIM secure element support in 'vanilla' Android. Quotes can be found below."
That sucks! Any chance you could ask if the Galaxy Nexus will be supported? Seeing as you are already in touch with them?
And just out of curiosity what is the advantage of using a SIM as a secure element? Is there a chance that Google have enabled support for it?
Thanks

[Q] Looking to purchase a Note II and had some questions

Looking to purchase a Note II and had some questions
I'm looking a purchasing a Samsung Note II that will be used on AT&T network. Since my upgrade is a year away, I have a Skyrocket that's only a year old, this phone will be a full price for me. I'm trying to find out some specific questions on the different Note II phone types, euro vs North America and what preloaded software differences are between them.
* the Note II that I purchase MUST have 4G LTE (AT&T FINALLY turned on 4G LTE in North East OKLA about 4 weeks ago! ..LOVEING IT).
* 10 minutes after I purchase the phone and verifying that everything is in working order it gets rooted.
I can purchase the phone from AT&T for full retail for $649. Best Buy said they would match that price (we'll see if they really do). When at Best Buy I asked about the preloaded software on the Note II (sense they do not have a working model on the floor) I was told in a blunt tone that it was an AT&T phone so it would work on AT&T's network. So i got no help on that front.
Questions---
1. Is the AT&T Note II phone that Best Buy sells have the same preloaded junk that comes on the one at the AT&T store?
2. Is the AT&T Note II phone that Best Buy sells been stripped of some of the Note II futures like the one at the AT&T store?
-- I read on a Amazon review the following---- http://www.amazon.com/review/R2Q2WM4...R2Q2WM4I4VO8J7
Be aware that the AT&T version of the Galaxy Note II is currently missing various standard functionality that Samsung is marketing and the other major carriers provide- missing functionality include:
~Multiview
~Group Shot Camera mode - with the ability to change faces
~Mobile data toggle
~Blocking mode toggle
~Screen Recorder
Since I am trying to get the most bang for my buck (a lot of bucks) which Note II phone that will work on AT&T that has 4G LTE should I be looking at?
(note- I suffered waiting on an ICS update from AT&T, so not having to depended on AT&T for my Android updates is a big plus)
Any advise or pointers is appreciated
Thanks
Yes: the AT&T Note II phone that Best Buy sells has the same preloaded junk that comes on the one at the AT&T store. i'd go with the at&t Note II. as of today, there are ported international ROMs that will work with the at&t Note II. i only use ported ROMs that exclude the modem (radio) and are posted in and/or linked to from the at&t Note II Forums. i'm currently using a ported, international N-7105, JB 4.1.2 ROM that doesn't include the modem. it also includes the stock multi-view feature. there are some small feature differences between the international and at&t version, e.g., keyboard on international version doesn't have long-press for symbols, but nothing that I would consider a show-stopper. international ROMs use different icons to note 4G/LTE service, but i have LTE connectivity with LTE speeds. everything on my Note II works as i would expect it to. see the pictures below.
i'm amazed at how ridiculiously easy it is to root Samsung Android devices. that being said, be sure to read, read, read and understand what you're doing before you do it. (i apologize is my suggestion appears condescending: i'm basing my suggestion on your low post count ).
A (possible) correction and a suggestion:
I use CleanROM for my ATT Note 2 and it does have a toggle for blocking mode. Dunno if this is or isn't a stock feature but it's out there.
Try negotiating with AT&T. I was able to speak to an ATT supervisor through 611 and get a lowered cost for my Note 2 (line was eligible for an upgrade) and my get my wife an S3 for $100 11 months before she was upgrade eligible. Your experience may vary greatly, but by all means, it's worth a shot. They shipped 2-day UPS for free.
I think the screen recording was pulled from all Note II's. Copyright concerns. I've been keeping my eye open for a mod or ROM that enables it, but haven't seen anything yet.
Sent from my Note ][
Screen recorder and and multiview are both missing, but everything else is there. Sprint added the multiview in via OTA update on their version, so ATT should follow suit with their version of the Note.
I'm coming from Verizon phones, so the bloat on this is minimal compared to what I'm used to. If you're rooting, though, it's not going to matter. You can freeze/uninstall it, anyway. Even without rooting, you can disable all of the bloat through the stock app manager, anyway.
Boyfriend was a year out on his upgrade, got the 199 everyone else got by being nice to the csr, no haggling or retention needed.

Claiming Samsung Galaxy Perks on a LTE Note 8.0?

I want to be able to claim the Samsung perks but it's not accepting my registration code. Apparently only the Wifi verion of this works, even though I purchased my note 8 in the USA no-term? Can this be skirted around or am I forced to rebuy a LTE-incapable note 8.0 for these perks.
Thanks for the help guys. I'm not pissed if it doesn't work, but it'd make my day ifthere was a workaround
EDIT: If it helps I've flashed my LTE note 8 (SGH-i467m)'s rom to the Wifi Note 8 (like SG-n5100 or something, I cant remember the exat model number), which disabled the LTE features in the process, so by all intents and purposes i am running a wifi Note 8.
Galaxy perks is only on 5110 models WIFI only.
AT&T does not have them. Thus your registration is different as well mainly due to the device being an SGH designation not a GT model.
The only perks worth having IMO are the $25 Google play credit.
Though, only a hand full of apps deserve payment. Too many have ads or just to wonky.

Pixel 3 XL and Samsung Galaxy Watch On Verizon Wireless

My quick question is : Has anyone found a work around to get the Pixel 3 XL to work with the Samsung Galaxy Watch?
The Verizon website allowed me to buy the watch and line share it with my Pixel 3. Their website says they are compatible. It quickly became apparent it wasn't going to be that simple.
Verizon's activation system won't even let you setup the line share because the "phone" isn't compatible. The in-store rep swapped my SIM into a Samsung phone to get past that part.
Then the watch simply won't activate the LTE. The bluetooth works perfect. But I'm paying $10 a month for LTE that isn't working. The CORE techs (after a while) said it's a known issue and they are expecting an update by the beginning of 2019.

Can the AT&T Note 4 be Upgraded to Android 8.0?

Hey, I'm pretty new to modding phones and have been searching around for a way to get my phone (SM-N910A) to be able to run android 8.0 or higher but haven't found anything. Is it just not possible at this time without swapping out parts of the phone or is there a way I have overlooked?
XDApplePie -- The ATT N4 Model SM-N910A cannot be rooted. That was what two genuine experts told me, but they didn't explain why. If so, I think a custom rom can't be installed.
I too want to flash a custom rom to my ATT Note 4. There are many N4 custom ROMs but I can't find any that support the ATT N4. I noticed that ALL the supported N4s have the Exynos chip but NO SnapDragon N4s are supported. The ATT N4 has the Qualcomm SnapDragon chip. My guess is that for some reason the SnapDragon chipset might the obstacle.
TLDR All because of a locked bootloader from ATT due to government contract; even the bounty on in here didn't have a winner
I myself have moved on to Tab A 8 with SPen and just recently to Note 10+ (can't let go of the SPen)

I just got off my Note 7 after futilely *****ing out AT&T for deceiving its customers. AT&T does say its phones are locked ... but when you ask a Customer Service Rep if the phone can be 'unlocked' after the contract is expired & phone paid off in full, they say 'yes'. But I just learned that ATT means 'carrier unlocked' only! But the bootloader remains locked forever.
ATT never tells customers that BOTH the carrier and bootloader is locked!
I have two classic Notes -- 4 & 7 -- trapped in stock ATT Android 6 -- and just learned I can't custom rom them to Andy 9. Heartbreaking for a Note FANatic.
So, I am looking at an unlocked Note 10 bought directly from Samsung. But ha, ha, ATT's worthwhile features like its custom dailer, sync calls between Note & Galaxy Watch, Spam Call Block, & etc won't work on a non-ATT unlocked Note 10. The greedy corporate assholes.
My daily driver ATT N7 is cooked. Its ATT Andy 6 is forever frozen. Its 3.5 yr old STOCK battery is failing. OEM replacement battery is a hopeless hope. A battery mod is extreme. I am heartbroken. I have to get a N10 ... and probably an ATT variant for the sake of my ATT Galaxy Watch.
Oh boy, I let ATT trap me like a sheep to be sheared.
Hah, Corporate Big Brother at its worst. Locked bootloader even though you pay for the phone
