How to enable SM-G960U carrier unlocked AT&T to update in a different country - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hi,
Last month (December 2018), I purchased a US carrier unlocked AT & T version of a Samsung S9 (SM-G960U) . I am currently residing in a different country, and everything works fine - except there are no updates! The last security patch level update is July 1, 2018. Everytime I check for software updates, it says the software is up to date. Is there any way to update to the latest firmware?

If you aren't/won't use any of the AT&T features you can flash your device to run the unlocked firmware(which pulls it's updates from Samsung). Look at this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/how-to-flash-u1-firmware-to-device-t3765200

Thank you so much! I think I will do just that, as long as the firmware gets updated. I had one more question if that's okay, does the PDA/CSC version matter? If I install for example the G960U1UEU3ARL1 version, will it cause any problems?

Hey I have the same exact issue, can you tell me the steps you took to switch to the U1 version? Not sure if flashing to the U1 version has the same steps as just flashing to another U firmware

Hi, I just recently updated to the U1 version, and it works like magic. I'm getting all the updates (finally), and it works smooth as butter. I download the firmware and followed this tutorial -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVhR0E9ACnY
Remember to flash Home_CSC if you want to keep your previous data/apps.

Can you tell me which version of odin you used?
I've tried two versions but it's not working for me

Anyway to root this US model?
Oh, absolutely. I rooted mine in December.
Don't. There is no benefit to it and it only causes problems. Wait until there is full firmware available and you've already upgraded to official Oreo.

EMUI 8.0 (with Android 8.0) is already in beta. So, I think the stable release will come out in a few months. You won't have to wait till June 2019 ?.

Do you mean rooting then installing a different rom causes problems or just rooting by itself?

In order to root you first need to unlock the bootloader and FRP. Once this has been done, it cannot be undone. Any attempt will likely result in bootloops or brick.
At this time, it will prevent you from being able to apply any OTA updates and voids whatever warranty you might have had.
With root, however, you can do a couple of neat things like remove the bloatware. Most of that can be removed without root, but there are a couple things. Add-free youtube? There's an apk out there that doesn't require root for that. Apply a different kernel that allows you to tweak performance or battery consumption? Doesn't exist and the phone's pretty good at performance and battery life as it is anyway. Oh, and snapchat won't work on root.
One really great thing you can do with root is flash the AOSP or OpenKirin rom. They're beta, so your experience might be better or it might be worse than stock.
Was there something else you wanted to do with root that you can't do without it?
I've never owned an Android device without root, but I'm regretting rooting this one. I'm looking to try out OpenKirin, but since my phone actually works for the time being, I'm hesitant.

If you're insistent, here's how you root:

So is there anyway to update L24 US model to Oreo beta? How can I get the beta ROM? I want to update to RR Oreo but all the I go seems to be for Indian L21 version. Can Huawei Firmware finder give me the update? I have Emui 5 and need Emui 8 with project treble FW to go to RR

As I understand it, you need to use the guide to upgrade to L21 and then flash RR Oreo from there. From what I've see elsewhere in the forums, one person has done it successfully and one person has bricked.
I've rooted many phones over the years but this one hasn't been fun. Unlocked bootloader, rooted and installed TWRP basically the day it was available. I didn't read one of the postings correctly one day and soft bricked my L24 trying to RELOCK and flash stock recovery. Long Story short I gave up and called customer support this past Sunday and started a warranty ticket. They sent me a packing slip via email. My package was handed to UPS driver at 12:45 Monday afternoon and my phone is already in route back to me for delivery tomorrow. I think I'm going to pass on unlocking and rooting until there's stock firmware released. Good luck if you choose to root.....
hi guys
I want to delete The Booatloader and Root from my Honor 7X
is there a way ?
thank you

Neither me, since I owned an Android, I rooted. But the the question now is? Is it worth to lose the warranty and OTA updates now that Huawei has been banned in US? I owned the Honor 7x since a year, it works just perfect, but there are some apps that i would like to use that require root, like Tinkore keymapper and a DIY gamepad. Again, is it worth it?

G960U1 April Security Update

Has anyone received their April Security update yet for their unlocked S9 (G960U1)? It appears the carriers have rolled them out here in the US, but the unlocked version has yet to receive it.

I second this request. I also have an unlocked s9 purchased directly from Samsung and I'm still on the February security patch. Only difference is I'm in Canada and my phone is a G960w.
I still haven't received anything on my UNlocked S9
Hope to get an update that will make the FM radio function. All the carrier versions have it unlocked.
Got the April security update yesterday, i have a unlocked s9 from australia. Hopefully they did some battery tweaks too.
Looks like I won't be getting a security update for my unlocked 960w until sometime in May. Kind of ****ty considering my old A5 received the April security patch a week ago. I must say I'm pretty disappointed thus far with the support I've gotten with Sammy's flagship.
It's now May (5-1-18) and my unlocked s9 is still on the February (2-1-18) security. Can I get a refund from Samsung? Really, can I return my phone due to a breach of contract? Any lawyers here?
April patch and SABS
Can anyone verify if SABS is still working with the April security patch?

Which firmware is on March security update?
The newest Canadian firmware is ARC1 from Telus and it's still on February. I see the latest U1 firmware is still ARBG (which was released at the same time) but I didn't know it had March security.
If you can confirm I'll flash over to U1 this afternoon ?
Thanks in advance

It's the same here in Canada with the W varient. I guess it's an issue with the snapdragon version of the firmware.
Halfway through May and still on the February security patch.
Flash over to the 960U firmware, there's no reason not to from what I can tell.
Running on my 960w for a few days now and everything is good. Only downside is you're stuck here until the U1/W catch up.

Out of curiosity, what contract are you referring to? I didn't have to sign a contract to get my S9; just pressed "buy" on Amazon.
What has Samsung breached? We voted with our wallets for Samsung to keep bending us over and ****ing us when it comes to updates; I've been an S7 and S8 owner too. I knew what I was getting into. Kind of hoped that Project Treble would make updates easier, but Samsung is apparently completely incompetent at anything software related. Someone needs to buy their lead dev a "baby's first guide to programming" booklet for whatever the next Korean gift-giving holiday is.

looking for factory images for nokia6.1

It would be great help to the community if someone could share factory images for this device of android 8 and 9. It can be use to reflash from scratch, or downgrade the device to android8 like me..
In most cases, what you need is boot, system or vendor images.

I need thos images which i could use to flash my device. Actually i want to downgrade to orio, as i am not happy with pie. Can u help?
still waiting for response
I am in the same boat, I want to downgrade to Oreo 8.0 so I can unlock the bootloader. I found this website where the firmwares are available, thanks to the owners but I am not able to downgrade because it either gets stuck on 'abl_b' partition or fails. I have tried to use OST tool 6.0.4 with slightly edited firmware as I found on internet.
https://fih-firmware.hikaricalyx.com/index_en.html
You need Ntool for downgrade ur phone.
Also here are stock images: https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...de-how-to-make-backups-restore-stock-t3889815
Same here. I updated to pie but unhappy with it due to poor battery life and stability. I want to downgrade too.
---------- Post added at 10:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:29 AM ----------
I came across a downgrade method for 7 plus where you just need to change slot from a to b. Then you flash downgrade package in stock recovery by applying update (in reality downgrade) from sdcard. Ii doesnt need bootloader unlocked. search google "How to downgrade Nokia 7 Plus from stable Pie to stable Oreo" (not allowed to post link because the site sells bootloader unlock).
if we had an oreo downgrade package for 6.1 we could try this method.

If you are critical unlocked, you can downgrade via OST LA. If not, you need NTool for downgrade.
I also tried to adb sideload through recovery the Oreo update but it also didnt work because it said the timestamp is older than current one. May be if we can change the time stamp it would just flash the update.

I am not sure if it's actually from Oreo because could be Pie, but the file name is "PL2-3260-0-00WW-B01-update" and it's size is 1.42Gb. I found it while I was looking for stock firmware for my Nokia 6.1. I dont remember from where though.

Is it possible to downgrade from Android Pie (9.0) to Oreo (8.1)?

Is there any way to downgrade from 9 to 8.1? considering I've updated my bootloader I see no way back. I'm currently on SF4 hoping to go back to ARK4 any help is greatly appreciated.
as far as i know, once you upgrade the "U1" to another version ( liked me, upgrade from U1ARK4 to U3BSG4). There is No Way to downgrade to lower U version.
just like downgrade the ios i think.
---------- Post added at 01:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:31 PM ----------
but I found some clue about downgrade that thing.
some people say that you need something called 'Roll-back package android 9 to 8 model T835' to odin flash before flash the lower zu firmware.

The only 8.1 firmware I've found on revision 3 is a combination rom. I find it pretty stupid that OEM Unlocking doesn't disable these checks. Im not the biggest fan of OneUI on a tablet. I would prefer Samsung Experience. Thanks for your help though.
I believe it depends on the botloader version you have.
Usually a new version of Android means a new bootloader version too. Not always though and if the lower version of Android (8.1) supports the bootloader you have installed in the newer firmware (9), then you should be able to regress.
If the bootloader isn't the same then you will end up with an error when flashing and need to reflash the newer firmware to get up and running again...

can't flash with odin even though bootloader being unlocked

i've got an a50 that i want to install TWRP on so i won't have to use the abomination that download mode is. i've unlocked bootloader, yet when i try to flash the TWRP .tar in odin it fails and the phone gives the following error code: "Only officially released binaries are allowed to be flashed(RECOVERY)"
although this is the first time i try flashing stuff on a samsung so you can consider me a newbie, i've got experience with fastboot on others so it must be something i glanced over.
cuz see, when i unlock the bootloader of other phones they let me flash onto them, unlike this one. if you could redirect me to a post with a solution or something that would be very much appreciated!
If you are on the latest official build, then The latest official build (last official Update from samsung) won't allow the twrp to be installed.
Use previous build to install twrp.

You can proceed.
The problems you may get with FOD, VoLTE. Some operators like Jio completely depend on volte . Without volte we can not make calls and receive messages. Only internet Anwould work.
