Revert back to oreo icons possible? - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Recent updated my S9+ to Pie & the icons are awful. I've looked through various options & none are simple icon changes. I've looked into creating a theme & only changing the icons (if I could source them) but Samsung don't allow non-creators to create themes or icon packs.
Is there a way we can install & change the icons back to the oreo ones without root / another launcher? At this point I'm ready to flash back to Oreo if it's not possible.
If anyone has the icons & a means to add them all as an install able Samsung theme you'd be a life saver.

Did you tried samsung themes?there are some pretty icon packs there.

I'm desperately looking for this as well. Did u got it somewhere else?

Try Pixel Icon Pack from the Play Store.

Have a look at the icons from Samsung directly in Galaxy Themes. The 2018 Olympic Games icon pack is very similar to the icons you get on Oreo.

similar but not quite ...
I also want the icon pack from the oreo high_contrast_theme_ii. they "updated" the theme with the awful pie icons. cant find it anyway.

Anyone find a solution yet?

Circular app icons question

Hi,
I received notification for update to 7.1.2 ota.
I have seen some videos shown that 7.1.2 has circular app icons.
I am thinking to move or not to the update because I don't like at all the circular icons.
(I still have phone and messages apps not updated because of the circular buttons)
I prefer my device just like it is now.
Do you know if there is any setting to have the update but the UI to remain as it is?
Any other solution except to use another launcher?
Only the Pixel phones have circular icons, no need to worry.

Thanks for the reply.
I haven't updated my phone/messages/contacts apps from playstore and I wonder if applying the update will change these apps to the newest versions where the icons are circular.
Phone and messages icons that I don't want to change can be seen in the attached photo.

What do you mean?
I mean caller app(phone), messages app, contacts app.
If you see the screenshot I have attached previously I am using the old ones.
In playstore there are updates (for me) which change icons about these specific apps.
Youtube is full of videos which show the new icons on 5X (no launcher).
Check in attached screenshots how the updated icons are but I haven't still updated.
(Also in update description it says <<new icons>>)

Yeah those are circles on all versions of Android, I don't know why you're so resistant to change of any kind, but you do you. The new dialer and message apps are much better than they were when they had the old icons.
But no, the update doesn't have updated versions of the apps.

it is possible to switch icon layout as you want
but a rooted device need with custom recovery
i can switch those icons root needed to do so
due to signature change and unsign apk
also launcher icons persist to change icon layout due to own icons
but they will also can change with custom ones without
changing the launcher custom recovery need
also check icon pack if you need so it is possible or not

Except the fact that I prefer the old icons (aesthetically), the previous time I updated these apps it made my contacts, calendar, pictures of contacts etc a mess...

Nova launcher does not require root and I'm sure there are a lot more if that is what you are needing. While I am rooted I do not believe I have to be for this setup. I downloaded an additional app called min icons for the icons.

Samsung theme store icon hack - Use icon only from any theme

Samsung theme added a new option in nougat for note 5 and other devices to change only icons. The problem is that icon library is quite limited. Although some themes have great icons but do let you apply icons alone (not so thoughtful of Samsung).
This method here let you use any samsung theme icon without applying that theme, Follow the complete guide here on XDA

EMUI Theme icons in Nova

I'm wanting to see if there is any way to use the icons from Huawei theme files in Nova launcher. An older thread had suggested to set via the "system" section and set them individually, however this does not work currently. When I've been able to find them I've downloaded matching icon packs, however this isn't always available. Thanks for any help
Actually going to answer my own question, for the benefit of anyone who might be wondering the same. The solution is much easier than I thought it was going to be. All I ended up having to do was to apply my EMUI theme of choice, then go to Nova Settings > Look & Feel > Icon Theme > System. This will apply the icons for the current EMUI theme, and must be repeated as such whenever you change themes, but actually fixes the issue of having the icons match the theme, without having to resort to the Huawei launcher.
Hope this helps someone.

how to replace navbar icons?

so i just updated to pie and the navbar icons are almost as ugly as the previous samsung icons. how do I replace them? I just want to have the regular android icons, how can this be so hard?
so i guess that's a no
Give a theme from Galaxy Themes a try, some of them have AOSP navbar icons. They do change your app icons and other stuff though.
But then there's always the option to enable gestures in Settings.
I'd go for the latter if I were you.
Back on Oreo I used Swift Installer to apply an AOSP-like look to my phone which was good.
Swift Installer now works with One UI, the AOSP look isn't available though, but who knows, maybe it will be in the near future.
Doesnt Substratum still work on S9 with the Pie update? If so there are Navbar icon apps for Substratum?

There is literally an entire theme store built into your phone to do just this..

no themes in the theme store show the navbar on their preview images.
already downloaded many themes, none of them changed the navbar icons.
and again, I don't wanna change anything, samsung's default ui is already ugly as it is, don't wanna make it even uglier with user made themes, only wanna change the navbar icons to look like what google makes.
if you know of one single theme that changes nothing but the navbar icons, go ahead and tell everyone

Question Use older custom Galaxy icon pack on Pixel 6 Pro?

Was wondering if there is a way to use an older custom icon pack i got on my samsung galaxy S9+ that i really like on my new Pixel 6 pro. The icon pack was purchased through the galaxy themes and is called Bay and is by Prapas Chantavali. If there is any way to use this on my pixel i would greatly appreciate help making it happen. Thanks
Not that I know of, you can thank Samsung for it not being portable.
The Pixel Launcher doesn't support custom icon packs anyway.
Well, as @dragynbane222 says, you will need a launcher that supports custom icons (e.g. Nova).
If the icon pack comes as an APK, fat chance that the icons are simply stored as resource images. Download the APK to your PC and try to 'apktool decode', check if there's a folder (probably under /res) with PNG files. Worth a try ... If there's indeed icon images, push them back onto your phone. With Nova, long press an app icon, then edit and you can change the icon for it by browing to one of the images.
You can try new Lawnchair 12, it is quite similar to stock launcher A12 but support custom icon pack and other customizations
If you can install the icon pack, Nova, Hyperion & Lawnchair support custom icon packs.
