Update options not listed in config, and no OEM unlock listed in Dev Options - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

The title pretty much describe the whole issue: I get a persistent notification that there's an OTA update to install, but touching the notification does nothing.
There seem to be no way of manually installing it either, because there is no update option listed in the configuration.
Can't unlock the bootloader either, because there is no OEM unlock listed in the dev tools.
I've never seen anything like this. Spent days researching, but found nothing. So here I'm hoping someone might have a clue about how to enable updates and OEM unlock in a situation like this.
Any help is appreciated.
This phone is a Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite model M1805D1SG, running Android 8.1 (OPM 1.171019.019.V9.6.6.0ODLMIFF)

for unlocking the bootloader you have to use ADB tools. you can't just unlock it in developer setting.
for your problem i would recommend you too check the forums on how to unlock the bootloader with adb and then grab the latest official A2 lite rom (10.0.40. or something i guess) and flash it with the MiFlashTool.
this procedure will upgrade your device without any loss of data.
I'm telling you this because that's how i update my device (which is rooted and kernel modified) with no problems.

True. We usually need to run 'fastboot oem unlock' to actually unlock the bootloader. Problem is, the command needs one to enable OEM unlocking in the developer options beforehand, otherwise it fails. And I dont have any means to enable OEM unlocking in the dev options, because it is not listed at all!
And without that I'm unable of doing any flashing.
The only report I found regarding a missing an OEM unlock option in the dev tools concern Samsung S9. Apparently one needs to wait 7 days for it to appear. But such a thing is unheard of concerning a Xiaomi phone.

Strange
I'm on 9.6.11.0 version and it's there. You're on 9.6.6.0 version. Maybe there's someone who had experience with 9.6.6.0 and OEM unlocking but if not there's always the option to do an OTA update to a newer firmware version.
Just don't update to a 10.x.x.x version (Pie) if you want to keep Oreo

you were saying that pixel c would not unlock and i was asking if you are using the new unlock command. the pixel c uses the nexus 6p unlock
command. not the old one.
it is no longer "fastboot oem unlock"
it is now for pixel c "fastboot flashing unlock"
you need to update your fastboot/adb package you use in case the one you are using does not recognize the new commands.

How to unlock the device?
HI there,
I get same problem, not possible to active Debug & Dev on android setting, because the tablet dosnt load to android !
I tried with Nexus Root Toolkit no success also

Virtually impossible to unlock bootloader

Guys, I need some help to confirm the only solution I found for my problem, or if I can still try other solutions.
I bought a Mi5s that already came from seller with the global stable rom. I asked the official bootloader unlock to Xiaomi and has received authorization by SMS. But the unlock application stucks at 50% saying that the device being unlocked is different from the one authorized on Mi account. I looked for some solutions like deleting all the devices in the page i.mi.com, leaving only the Mi5s, but I did not have success. Other solution is flash chinese developer rom
Another solution is to flash Chinese developer rom, to confirm unlock of the device on the developer screen and then to use the official tool unlock. But I didn't find any way to flash the developer rom. I've tried using Chinese PC Suite, fastboot mode, MiFlash, and all says that the rom I am trying to flash (Chinese) is different from the rom of the device (global).
The only solution I found is to buy a deep flash cable and flash the developer rom in EDL mode. Or hope to launch the global developer rom for Mi5s, which so far we have no prospect in the short term.
Do you suggest I try some other solution? Thanks in advance.
Try logging into mi cloud with your mi5s using the same account you used to asked the request to unlock.

Already had done it, no success
From http://en.miui.com/thread-482266-1-1.html
Under settings/additional settings/developer options, click Mi unlock status. Click add account and device. Your device will now be automatically added to your Mi account.
Next, enable OEM unlocking and USB debugging under developer options.
Then connect your mobile to the pc or laptop while on fastboot mode. Unlock again. This time, it will be successful!
Same problem. Can't unlock my Mi 5S on Global Stable firmware (V8.0.3.0). And can't flash to China Developer firmware.

You should have that parameter no matter you are at global or not, but if you don't you should flash a developer version, instruction at the same page.
Before you say "i can't flash developer rom", did you tried the updater app to flash it?
Force flash your rom using special cable to enter fastboot to install. I dont know its detail, but the installation called Deep Flash using deep flash cable sold on ebay

I had similar problems and I was also trying to figure out what to do to unlock bootloader on Global stable rom. The amount of people having the same problem where unlocking app stops at 50% is overwhelming ,judging from the comments found on google, but the info what is the actual problem is next to none. Suggested solutions looks to me like voodoo and most if not all probably doesn't have any impact on successful unlocking. As the Xiaomi unlock app is just a wrapper for fastboot executable I've checked what kind of commands are being send to the fastboot when you click unlock here they are.
fastboot getvar product
fastboot getvar soc-id
fastboot getvar soc_id
fastboot getvar board_version
So I've checked if I will actually get any info from bootloader if I send those commands manually, and with no surprise I didn't get any. So this was the problem at least in my case. Some kind of connection problem I'm not sure where exactly the fault is, probably drivers but try to issue those commands manually from command line I can bet you will not get any info from the phone. What to do if that's the case remove and reinstall drivers, this is what has worked for me. Good luck
Had the same problem. Got it solved today. the bad news you need a deep flashing cable, good news you can make it yourself.

I have unlocked 4 mi phones with no difficulty. Some of them with fake/seller ROM. Once you got permission make sure you have done all things right before preceding to Unlock. Usually it's all about loading the right driver for Xiaomi phone. Using default windows driver is not working. As it's not Microsoft signed driver you have to start windows in insecure mode.
You have to login in your mi account both on PC and on phone with SIM card ind.
Check that phone is verified settings/mi account on your phone.
Best luck

Follow the guide that I posted to make the cable(first link), install all the drivers and software needed (second link).
After successfully putting the phone in deep flash mode you need to update Qualcomm drivers (under device manager it must appear as com3 or com10 port after that).
Then use Mi Flash tool to flash Chinese dev rom (http ://bigota.d.miui.com/7.1.20/miui_MI5S_7.1.20_229fa68558_6.0.zip). If the flash fails the first time reboot the computer and try again.
After that sync connect your MI account to the device, enter Dev mode and you will find OEM Unlock option.
Not easy but it works.
Good Luck!

I tried all the possibilities described, that do not need flash developer rom using a deep flash cable. I changed drivers and everything, no success.
In time, I already ordered a deep flash cable here in Brazil. For my part, I thank all fellas who tried to help me but gave up trying anything else. As the title of the topic, my device is currently virtually impossible to unlock in the normal way.

Unfortunately this this did not help. My assumption is that 8.0.3.0. Global stable needs ROM-internal permissions, which are currently missing. (In fastboot mode ADB is able to communicate to the phone, so it is not a driver issue.)

Problem with Camera after Custom Roms

So I flashed 3 ROMS from openkirin.net,
1. LOS
2. Carbon OS
3. RR Os
Everything is fine except the camera apps there. All three Roms have apps that just click normal pics whenever i switch to portrait mode (I must add they contain stock emui camera app) the apps just hangs.
Does anybody have a solution to this to take portrait mode photos on custom roms.
Or any camera ( can be third party ) that can allow me to do so.

if you have unlocked your bootloader status and you want your original 'Locked' status instead of 'ReLocked' status, follow the procedure.
1. fastboot reboot bootloader
2. fastboot oem relock UnlockCode this will ReLock your bootloader
3. switch on your phone, go to developer menu and Uncheck the OEM unlocking
4. Reboot your phone, done , your Phone status is now "Locked" , FRP is also Locked , you can check it in fastboot mode
5. if you want to unloack FRP, then just go to developer menu and Allow oem unloack, this will turn off FRP but bootloader status remains "LOCKED" , it doesn't change to ReLocked.

are you on oreo?
on oreo, if BL is unlocked, developer oem unlocking option will freeze to "oem unlocking Allowed" so this procedure is not useful.
by the way, if you have untouched stock rom, then OTA updates will come even on unlock bootloader and
you can claim warranty with ReLocked status.

About xiomi redmi note 5 ai fake rom and fake unlocking problem

I bought a xiomi redmi note 5 ai which contains a fake rom( 9.5.13.0.0 OEIMIFA). In developers option it shows me that my device is unlocked but in fastboot it is actually locked. In forum I saw test point twice method for whyred but I couldn't active edl by doing this hardware functionality because my device is new and I am also a noob in those matter. My mi id also unauthorised. Is there any chance that I can flash Official China stable rom and get the official update??? I am so disappointed with this. Experts, please help me to flash official rom on note 5 ai. give e some solutions.
Yeah I wanna know about this topic too. Many sellers are sending unsealed products and bootloader saying unlocked.
I'm in this situation too! So sad
This is really weird....In dev options phone says "Unlocked" but when you reboot there is no "Unlocked" sign under Mi logo...WTF?????
You will need to give some more detailed information for people to help you. Go on the guides section, find one of the many bootloader unlock guides and follow it step by step: at which point does it not work, and what kind of error do you get?
You also mention your account not being authorized: if that is the case, then you absolutely need to get it authorized first, there's no way around that (short of finding someone with an authorized account to help you, I guess).
By the way, I would not focus too much on the fact that Developer options report the device as unlocked, if the ROM is unofficial, that is easy to fake. Whoever flashed the u unauthorized ROM must have then relocked the bootloader after flash.
this is why xiaomi has changed the way bootloader unlocks to prevent sellers from doing this.

To my knowledge, the new unlock policy just adds more time before unlock and makes it harder to use the same account for multiple unlocks. I would say it discourages sellers from doing this, but the more resourceful ones will keep doing what they always did, while us users have to endure the whole thing.
I got my redmi note 5 ai, it was already unlocked. can someone point out if it's good? In developer options says unlocked. I turned on usb debugging but OEM unlock is greyed out. Verity mode: true, device unlocked: true and device critical unlocked: true
My first R5+ came with an unlocked bootloader but the unlock process made it for the seller can corrupt eventually some partition or even unsuccesfull, they are not intend to unlock but change a chinese rom for a global and through the process device could get unlocked (time before, I guess not actually).
The most indisputable way without a doubt to know this is simply going to fastboot mode and typing
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
so fastboot reads at a low level directly in the right partition. There are some discussion on where is place this condition, some thinks that is in bootloader itself but others believe that it is in persist partition.
That's what I did. What do you think?

Thanks for the confirm. Still can't figure out how to turn on OEM unlock. Maybe cause I haven't done a mi account yet.

You mean unlock OEM in developer options? turn off USB debugging and then turn on again and now enable OEM unlock

If it is in a greyish, as unmarked so you can touch the toggle but is in positive OEM unlock? then don´t worry about that.
Just look at it before and after to do some update.

Officially no, but for me and several others it still worked, even with an EU phone.
I had to upgrade to Android 10 and then follow the steps described here:
https://c.realme.com/in/post-details/1244566811094024192?language=en-US
Btw., it's better to stick to the official post from realme I linked above, apps and links on youtube could be malicious.
I am using RM5P Indian version. The youtube link is safe. I didn't find any issues.
More than that, this apk was already listed in xda by faisalxp. I realized that late.

Go to this link to download safely.

Yes, that's exactly what I was on before unlocking and rooting (INDIAN version).
Install adb and fastboot drivers in PC.
Good practice is to put all the necessary files in the C:/adb folder for installing twrp recovery.
Backup your data/pictures/notes etc first to pc.
Enable OEM unlock in Developer options. Enable USB debugging.
Install deep test apk and follow the instructions and get into FASTBOOT.
In fastboot type: fastboot flashing unlock and enter, and then unlock.
Needed Files:
twrp - link: https://files.orangefox.tech/OrangeFox-Beta/rmx1971/OrangeFox-R10.1_1-Beta-RMX1971.zip

I only suggest you to install fastboot on your phone. No harm in it.
But before unlocking, please confirm with your similar phone user because this is not the time to experiment.
thanks.

Not sure why.
Which command you typed in fastboot?
fastboot flashing unlock - if this command gave you this error. Try the regular one
fastboot oem unlock.

Yes, you can use the app prompt "Apply to exit in-depth test". It will reboot to Fastboot where you need to type the command to lock.
Fastboot help - will give you all the commands available.
Commands available:
locking/unlocking:
Fastboot flashing lock|unlock Lock/unlock partitions for flashing
I suggest you research a bit more. Phone might get bricked. Do it at your own risk.
You should not be on TWRP, go back to official recovery.
If you have rooted, UNROOT first and do the rest.

Actually when i press that button it shows this "You can only apply to exit in-depth test after carrying out bootloader lock operation in fastboot mode".
so I went into fastboot mode and used the command fastboot flashing lock it wiped my data and rebooted to welcome screen (language region setup)
Should I now use the app to "Apply to exit in-depth test"? or don't use the app?
