Wonky behavior after update (Verizon) - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

I've had my phone for a few months now and I've seen 2 updates on it. Generally speaking the device works fine but I was woken out of my sleep due to the phone bootlooping. I shut it down and restarted it and it worked fine. I thought oh great, not this again but still chalked it up to just pure randomness. Then yesterday I started getting this notification that the charging port may have debris or moisture and that it wouldn't charge properly despite me doing nothing different, never getting it wet. So I followed the directions and blow dried it gently and checked for debris. The message stopped but then started up again today. I decided not to chance it and took it to Verizon. They were really too lazy to actually look at it instead just ordered a replacement device which I guess I'm ok with but that doesn't explain what may have happened.
Anyone else having wonky issues with their phones after the last software update? I have not tried a hard reset or anything thing else yet but it is no longer fast-charging. So far that seems to be the only issue. Any insights?
*Edit: Did a factory reset and I thought it would resolve but it didn't. What it does now is that randomly whenever I plug it in either to my PC or Charger it will randomly shut off and go to this screen. The above error about the charging port continues to happen. Even though it says fast charging it is not.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus Charging Problem Backlight Keeps Coming On

I am REALLY unhappy with this phone. Aside from the poor signal and other issues well known to the Nexus, I now have a phone that has a charging problem. Sometimes when I plug the phone in, it does not recognize that it is plugged in and will not charge. This is not an issue in itself, because if I unplug and plug back in a few times it will eventually charge. The big problem is when it is NOT plugged in. The phone will often switch between charging and not charging on the battery indicator.... even though it is NOT plugged in.
I read up on this and found that... shocker.. this is just one more issue plaguing Nexus owners. The real problem for me is that everytime the phone switches from thinking it is charging to not charging, about every two seconds mostly, the screen comes on. This results in the screen constantly going on an off and the battery draining extremely fast. It is 8:17 am, and I unplugged the phone at 6:40 this morning. In less than an hour and a half, the battery has fallen to 38% and I have not used the phone at all today. It is sitting on my desk, flashing like a disco club.
I have searched but have only found an option to keep the phone ON while charging. Is there an option or app available that will prevent the screen from lighting everytime it thinks I have plugged it in to charge? I am rooted, so any option known would be helpful.
I cannot wait to throw this thing in the garbage, but I am not happy with any of the other options currently available. I like the look of the Galaxy S3 but the Gnex has left a bad taste in my mouth for Samsung... it was my first Samsung phone and I'm not sure if I should judge the product line on all the problems I have had with this phone. I loved the HTC Incredible it just got a little old.
Can anyone help me with this problem... please! It is now at 30% since I typed the last few lines. I can sit and watch this thing draining like a bathtub.

try changing the usb port on the phone

I had this issue caused by water damage quite recently - it was in my pocket during some absolutely unprecedented rain here in the UK, and although it seemed I could charge it without problems, when it was off the charger it'd be confused and flash on and off as you say. I just threw it in some rice and took it out at midnight, problem solved (whether the rice was actually responsible for solving it, I have no idea). Has your phone been used in the rain or anything like that, or been in the pocket of clothes that aren't very 'rainproof' during rain? Could be it.
Is it the charger? I had a bad car charger that did the same thing. If not, I would contact Samsung and see what they can do for you.

I read about the water damage being a possible culprit but I cannot remember it getting wet anytime recently. It is not the charger, it does the same thing with two different chargers and the car charger. It does actually charge, thats not the problem. The problem is when I am away from the charger the screen just comes on all the time and the battery is drained rapidly. It has been having issues for a week or two now but just recently started having the problem when not actually plugged in.
Someone just needs to make an app with an option NOT to turn on the touchscreen when first plugged in.

Have you been able to fix your issue? I've had zero issues with my Galaxy Nexus for months, and now I'm having the same problem you describe. Initially I thought it was the ROM, but last Sunday I noticed that the phone will simply not sleep without being charged. The USB port appeared to be bent downward, so I used a tiny flat head screwdriver to raise the port. This seemed to fix the issue for a few minutes, but then the phone kept waking up. It's murdering my battery, and I'd like to fix this situation. The problem seems to be intermittent, and occasionally it will work for hours at a time. This leads me to believe that the problem could be internal.
I'm wondering if you tried anything else? I don't have a problem replacing the USB port myself because it seems like an easy and cheap fix. I'm not a novice when it comes to repairing phones, but I'd rather not open the device quite yet.
The new part is $8.00 shipped, and the seller is in the US. You can't go wrong. I will report back once I fix the problem.
Not really, the problem just sort of went away a week ago... I'm getting the Galaxy S3 end of October so I'm not going to replace the USB port. I messed around with the usb thing too, bent it with a knife so it wasnt touching anything. I also tried cleaning the contacts and blowing it out with air... not sure if any of these things helped or not. Like I said if I made it worse didnt matter as I'm getting GS3 soon. So for now its working but not sure why or how or how long...

I've got the exact same issues, it's ruining my battery life. Has anyone found a fix for this yet?
Its a physical problem. You need to replace the charging port, or get new phone like me.

@calaski8123 -> how would I replace the charging port? Should I contact samsung/google?? I have the exact same issue being discussed here and its driving me nuts. And I got this phone just a couple months ago so getting a new phone is not a solution...
best,

If its new I'd take it back under warranty. If not, you can buy the parts on ebay and other sites... Search the Forums here, there are details. You can also search Youtube for a guide. Samsung probably would fix but it would cost much more.
Mine is better, but not sure what fixed it. The battery still doesn't last but half a day so I'm still getting the S3 in week or so.

Gnex Charging Issue
Hi all! Yes, I am another one of the unfortunate owners of a Gnex with this issue. I wanted to send out a reply to everyone that says to replace the USB charging port. I just had mine replaced, and it did not fix the problem. I have also tried different batteries, and I have read where some people are fixing this by *** gently *** bending the USB connector up ( toward the screen ). That also did not fix my problem. A few days ago I installed AOKP 4.2.1, and that was ineffective as well. I am stumped. My Samsung Fascinate was a very good phone, but the Gnex is really making me wonder if I ever want another Samsung. Has anyone found a solution for this? Unfortunately for me, I bought mine used and don't have the option of returning to Verizon for help. Thanks!

[Q] Messed Up Lumia (hard to describe)

I purchased my Black AT&T Nokia Lumia 900 from the XDA marketplace about a month ago, and up until today its been great. A few days ago when I woke up, it dawned on me that the alarms I have on it didn't go off (thankfully I didn't wakeup too terribly late). Went and took a quick shower and when I got back the wifi was disconnected and it wasn't reading the sim. I restarted it, and instantly all the alarms went off. At the time I chalked it up as a glitch. But today it started randomly shutting off. I wanted to backup a few things and try doing a reset. Unfortunately (tested on 2 computers) it wouldn't connect. And if you unplugged the USB cable the phone would shut off. Looked around on Google and saw a few other people with similar issues which they were able to resolve with a hard reset. Decided to give it a shot. Well the bug is still there, and now I can't even connect to the zune software to update to the latest OS version.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I'm going to look into maybe sending it in under warranty, I checked on Nokia's site and it's still under warranty. However, they require proof of purchase and seeing how I purchased it from another user I'm not sure if they will accept it. :/
Are you able to wake it up if you connect it to an external power source, other then USB port? Try plug in it in to wall socket and see if it wakes up, then do a hard reset.

Thanks for your feedback. I actually got it working last night, but didn't get a chance to post.
Itried using several other USB cables just in case, but the issue didn't go away. When I did the hard reset, the phone wasn't plugged into anything. But I decided to charge it to 100% with a wall charger. Charged it and it didn't have any issues, even tested unplugging it, and it didn't shutdown or anything. So I plugged it back into the wall charger, and used the reset feature in the settings window. Afterwards I left it plugged in and set everything up; hotmail account, wifi, etc.Once I was done I plugged it into my computer, I was mistaken about the updates, looks like they were not removed (which was definitely nice). Since then everything has been running just fine. The only thing that sucks is that unlike Android, I wasn't able to backup texts or any game saves, which does suck. But oh well. Hopefully no one else ends up getting this bug.

[HELP] Phone is non-responsive all of a sudden. Won't draw charge either.

I posted this in the noob thread and I'm not sure how posting a new thread will help but hopefully someone may be able to sort me out.
I was using my phone in the car about an hour ago, listening to music (3.5mm jack). At this point my battery was at 3%. I opened Snapchat and the camera was being weird; it had purple noise(?) lines all over the screen every time I pressed the screen to focus it which tells me the camera is stuffed for whatever reason.
Anyway, the phone died on me. I assume the battery died as it was already low. However, it then starts to bootloop about 4-5 times and only manages to reach the encryption screen once, at which point it just switches off. Again, I thought the battery died! So I walk in to my flat, plug the charger in and expect it to boot but nothing happens. At this moment, there is no LED light on the front to indicate charge despite having been on charge for over half an hour, there is no vibration or any form of life from the phone. It just seems to have flat out died on me.
Now I know people will say I dropped it or its water damage so right off the bat, it is neither of those. It was dropped around 3 months ago, once, on carpet, from about 1.5ft if that. Never seen liquid and never been pulled out in the rain or anything like that. Last night it charged fine and today it worked fine too. Now it's dead!
Is there anything I can do/try? The USB cable/charger are fine, I tested them with a volt meter. Other things I have done include trying to boot the phone in any way possible through a number of button combinations, with and without SIM/SD card and even tried to plug the cable into my laptop. It's simply dead. Finally, if this helps: the phone is stock apart from an unlocked bootloader. It is rooted and has xposed installed with 3-4 mods, none of which do a lot (Snappreffs, xnotifications, dpi manager etc). It is running old firmware (like from last May when I bought it. Just never got around to updating I guess!) but this has never caused a problem.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Edit: Phone now responsive after 45 mins+ of being plugged in. Charging and working fine. Weird af..Mods feel free to delete this thread.

G7 will only charge when powered off

I seem to be having the same issue as found on this thread, can't find anything here though.

Anyone else have the same issue and found a fix? Guessing this might have to go back to lg.
Thanks!

I started getting this issue yesterday a day after I got a software monthly update for Nov. I normally shut the phone off to charge but sometimes leave it on. When plugged into something it doesnt seem to detect its plugged in. I even swapped cables to a slower charger and same thing. It doesnt see it.
When I fully charged it off, It beeps the battery and does a circle hue randomly by the home button but than detected the connection to pc. I ignored it and started up again but without the beeping, just wont charge when on. There is no dirt or anything in the unit,. I have not moved any-wires, they have been sitting in the same spot on the counter since day 1. I'm gonna try a factor reset if it keeps happening a day or 2 from now.
Same problem here, it was behaving strangely few days ago (charging problem right away but worked in the end so let it go) and now it charges only when off or if plugged within 30 seconds after turning on and only on normal charge speed (not quick charge). Tried to wipe apps and everything, did the facrory reset 2 times but still nothing.
I have similar issues with charging my g7, first give me notification of moisture detected on USB port, then can't charge normally need to plug a few times and sometimes get slow charging, i was thinking have faulty USB port, and have poor battery life.
Then I turn off and put the cable and charges normally and realized that it's software issue.
I flash the ULM10i firmware and now everything work flawless the USB port charges when it's turn on and have very good battery life now.
As an update, I called LG and they basically stated that it sounds like a software issue and to send the phone in. I declined hoping to get another update that would fix it.
I have yet to get one from T-mobile. Long story short, it corrected itself and now charges off or on and no longer does the beeping. Whatever it was, was a bug that temporary for me.
same problem here; no moisture errors, aleatory starts charging when it's on, poor battery life; mainly starts charging with the phone off
problem solved! I've forced LG BRIDGE to reflash the ROM and voilĂ , all working like a charm. Just download from lge.com, install LG BRIDGE, under "software update" ... "update error recovery" and it will download and reflash the working ROM.

Strange Battery Issue | Tried almost everything | Please help!

So I've had this phone for about a year now, loved it (other than the lack of custom ROMS but that was my own fault for not doing enough research to begin with..) Anyways, to the problem..
The phone ran completely fine for about 6 months, no issues whatsoever. Then, I cracked the screen while working (oops). I consider myself at least a bit knowledgeable when it comes to phone repair, as I have done many in the past successfully. I purchased a new screen off E-bay, and installed it. No issues other than it had a few weird spots on the screen but it was bearable so I was living with it. About a month later I started having charge port issues. I had to prop it up certain ways to get it to charge, etc etc. I looked it up and apparently many people had this problem. It was running fine still for about another month until the strangest thing happened that I've never seen before.
The batter would immediately say 100% when I first plugged it in, and after powered on, it progressively brings itself down to 0% and then dies completely. Never seen it before and couldn't find anything about it on the internet really.
I figured that it was probably just the battery crapping out on me, so I thought, if I'm going to keep this phone (can't really afford a nicer phone right now), that I may as well purchase a new charge port and battery and repair them both.
The repair went flawlessly. The charge port works again perfectly but the battery problem still remains. It still says 100% and gradually goes down to 0% and dies.
What is going on here? Any ideas? I am now trying a system restore (my phone was encrypted so I wasnt able to get into TWRP without remembering the password which I don't even remember putting on there). I did a wipe on the phone and now I am able to access TWRP just fine on my internal storage, is there anything that may be able to fix this? Assuming this is a software issue and not a hardware one? And if it is a hardware one, what could it be??
Thank you for your time!
EDIT:
I forgot to mention. About a day before the battery started doing this. I downloaded the magisk module "ACC" (Advanced charging controller), thinking it may be useful considering how weird my charge port thing was being. It completely made my phone unable to charge when plugged in. I disabled and deleted the module and it went back to the way it was before (it didn't have the weird issue of discharging constantly). The next day or 2 that's when it started discharging immediately and always says its at 100% when I first plug it in. Don't know if that's relevent or not but I figured I would add it.
