LTE Bands - Xiaomi Mi 9 SE Questions & Answers

From what I saw in the AliExpress online stores, Mi 9 (non SE) supports North American LTE bands (4, 7, 17). But when I look at some of the Mi 9 SE on pre-sales they don't seem to mention these bands... Any idea what bands will be supported by ... ?
1) Mi 9 SE Chinese
2) Mi 9 SE Global

I received my 9 SE last friday and I can also confirm band 20 - a really neet app to check is "Cellular-Z" - not overly complicated and can show both simcards's band.
also from portugal

I was just looking at the official web site for the Mi9 SE Global Edition and it is showing
Supported network bands.

GSM: B2/3/5/8
UMTS: B1/2/4/5/8
FDD LTE: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20/28
TDD LTE: 38/40
That includes most of the North American LTE Bands. Does anyone know if it actually has these bands?

Okay. That's my fault. I overlooked the "F" in your model number. Sorry. Here are the specs for your LG-H791F:
B1 (2100) LTE
B2 (1900 PCS) LTE
B3 (1800 +) LTE
B4 (1700/2100 AWS 1) LTE
B5 (850) LTE
B7 (2600) LTE
B20 (800 DD)
LTEB28 (700 APT) LTE
You device supports LTE bands 3, 7 and 28 which are used by all the Brazilian carriers except SKY Brazil and ON Telecom which use Band 38.
The 3G bands that are supported by your device are as follows:
B1 (2100) UMTS
B2 (1900 PCS) UMTS
B5 (850) UMTS
B8 (900 GSM) UMTS
Now, your device does support all of the Brazilian carriers UMTS 3G & HSPA networks because all of the carriers use Band 1 and Band 5.
Also, you specific device supports all of the 2G networks as well for each carrier. Looks like you are good to go.
H791(F),maybe refer to FDD only model, network goes like
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900,
UMTS850 (B5), UMTS900 (B8), UMTS1900 (B2), UMTS2100 (B1),
LTE2100 (B1),LTE1800 (B3),LTE1900 (B2), LTE1700/2100 (B4), LTE850 (B5), LTE2600 (B7), LTE800 (B20), LTE700 (B28)
Frequency band allocation of Brazil is same as Europe,Band 3 (1800) Band 7(2600) for most carriers,
And how did you get such an interesting version?Willing sharing a QPST QCN backup for band unlocking?

I'm also very curious if the phone will be usable in US.
Referencing https://forums.att.com/t5/Phone-Dev...-AT-amp-T-s-4G-LTE-bands-in-2018/td-p/5359265 it seems like it'll be at least slightly usable - how long will the delay be for an international version?

Here you can see wich Band´s are with the Device:
https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-xiaomi-redmi-note-5-pro
I have the Old Redmi Note 3 and there are much more Bands in it:
https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/xiaomi-redmi-note-3-pro,xiaomi-redmi-note-5-pro
RN3 are 11 LTE and the RN5Pro only 5 =(
But i mostly need Band 1 so iam happy with that.
GSMArena says:
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G bands LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 40(2300), 41(2500)
Almost unusable in US/Canada for me. Only one LTE band matches my carrier and it's not a good one.
Nobody in USA/Canada will be using this phone. They would have no coverage most of the time.

Band 5 for lte works with AT&T I believe. Or we will have to wait for them to release a global version for band 4 to work on T-Mobile.
it seems that the Chinese version will be different from this Indian one.
It will change the camera.
So, perhaps, the US/EU version will have more LTE band.

o2 has extended the Band 2 coverage. Now 95% Band 3. I am happy with that.
I Like to buy even with that range. Need to know where it is aviable!?
i hope xiaomi wont be stupid... and make a FULL 4g one (indian:tawain) edition like the redmi note 3 special edition or the redmi note 4 with b20. and like the mi mix 2 has full 4g.
so wait and see for the full 4g version i guess.. cause i wont buy it otherwise and stick to my redmi note 3...
Please tell me if it will work in canada

You can get the specs of global version from Indonesian MI official site itself. Check here under network bands. This is the same version that resellers sell through aliexpress, gearbest, banggood etc., Just check the bands you need.
You can also get the chinese variant. It has all bands except band 4 and band 20.

T-Mobile vs. US/Unlocked version

I am planning to get S9 and deciding between getting one from T-Mobile vs. US/Unlocked version direct from Samsung.
First of all, comparing the specs of the respective models I see differences in supported bands (matching ones omitted):
Unlocked:
2G CDMA: CDMA800, USPCS1900
3G UMTS: B8(900)
3G CDMA: BC0(800), BC1(1900)
4G FDD LTE: B17(700), B28(700), B29(700), B66(AWS-3)
4G TDD LTE: B46(5200)
T-Mobile:
3G UMTS: B4(AWS)
3G TD-SCDMA: B34(2010), B39(1880)
4G FDD LTE: B12(700), B66(AWS-3), B71 (600MHz)
How would the absence of these bands affect my coverage/speeds within the US?
My second question is about "WiFi calling". I had a bad experience with Galaxy S6 where Wi-Fi calling feature did not work on Samsung generic ROM and was only available on T-Mobile ROMs. I wonder if they fixed this in newer models.
Besides being unlocked and having less pre-installed software are there are any pros/cons buying form T-Mobile vs. buying from Samsung directly?
The major difference as a T-Mobile customer is that the unlocked US version from Samsung does not support B71 (600mhz). This is T-Mobile's new "big thing" but I suppose it may depend on what city/state you are located in. Find more info on the 600mhz acquisition here: https://www.google.com/search?q=t+m...1.69i57j0l5.3768j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Users have reported that the S8 unlocked version worked fine with Tmo wifi calling. I assume it'll be the same for the S9.

Unfortunately the verdict won't be in until it gets into our hands, if band 71 is super important then just get the T-Mobile variant and be done with it. Or if you just prefer less bloat then unlocked probably is the way to go....

Decided to peruse the FCC docs for the Galaxy S9, located here: https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/repo...id=iZpmwirNeCdRpxZDqp7ksg==&fcc_id=A3LSMG960U
Specifically the "HAC Key Feature letter" doc, if I'm reading/understanding it correctly, both the SM-G960U and SM-G960U1 (unlocked model if they're following the same model number scheme as last year) will support Band 71 LTE.
I guess direct linking to the doc is not allowed, but you can open it from the link above.

If it does support band 71 LTE what other benefits are their to getting the unlocked version vs a carrier version? Is there any negatives?
When you say "US/Unlocked version", is that carrier-unlocked (use on any operator), or boot-loader unlocked (install custom recovery like TWRP)?
Is there an S9 version that is boot-loader unlocked (Exynos) that supports Band 71 and T-mobile Wi-Fi Calling?
Anyone have experience with a US unlocked one in hand?

US unlocked is only "Carrier Unlocked" there is NO bootloader unlocked version in the US
So im not sure if this is still an active thread.
But on a U1 model, cant we do a "DIAL" code to enable all LTE Antennas?

What would you consider the TMOBILE S9's then?
are they bootloader locked?
From my experience ATT and VERIZON's s9's are not bootloader locked.
Tmobile and others are.. As with TMOBILE s9's you arent able to flash to an UNLOCKED firmware...

There is no us carrier S9 that has their bootloader unlocked. The U1 is a us model and it has the bootloader locked as well.. only international models bootloader's can be unlocked

Global version 6gb/128gb lte bands question.

I'm getting a lot of conflicting info on the internet. Does the global version 6gb/128gb of this phone use LTE bands 2 4 5 12 and 17? LTE band 12 is very important since I have T-Mobile/MetroPCS.

Doesn't look like it'll work for band 12 or 17.
Try using kimovil.com for all phone specs, hasn't let me down yet.
I have here listed of supported LTE bands and carrier aggregation combinations: https://cacombos.com/device?model=M1906G7G
