Moto G6 Bootanimation customization - Moto G6 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hey guys i somehow figured out how to change the bootanimation in my moto g6 [ XT1925-13 ] .
So i thought i should share.
WORKS WITH:
THIS METHOD WILL WORK WITH STOCK ROM
ANDROID 8
ANDROID 9
********
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU WRECK YOUR PHONE
********
REQUIREMENT:
ROOTED PHONE
Knowledge about your Software Channel { RETUS , RETIN , RETAIL . . . . etc }
Root file browser
Custom bootanimation.zip
I am not sure how much it will vary for the others but here we go.
BACKSTORY:
I had followed the tutorial like others and tried putting the bootanimation.zip file in the /system/media directory but to no avail it still booted with the stock boot animation.
So i got confused and i like every sane person searched the file.
I used the command
Code:
ls -laR /
on my terminal emulator with root permission.
In the list i noticed the bootanimation.zip file occur 3 times. (4 if you've used magisk to root your G6)
Their locations are as follows
/oem/retin/media <<<This was the original software channel my phone had
/oem/retus/media <<<This appeared because i flashed stock ROM: RETUS software channel
/system/media
/sbin/.magisk/mirror/system/media {this can be ignored}
I was playing around a bit and figured out that you have to replace the bootanimation.zip file in the folders.
/system/media/ and
/oem/<SOFTWARE CHANNEL NAME>/media
I changed it with the custom bootanimation.zip and voila it works like a charm.
PROCEDURE:
Backup :
Before any changes backup your files, like you do for every mod with root involved.
CHANGE:
OK.....
I would like you to note that not all the files have the same Owner and group.
The permission is the same [ -rw-r--r-- or 644 ]
Code:
[SIZE="4"][B]Directory owner group[/B][/SIZE]
/oem/<SOFTWARE CHANNEL NAME>/media ===> root root
/system/media ===> root everybody
Change all the occurrences of the bootanimation.zip at the above listed locations with the required permissions , owner and group.
Verify that all the changes are correct then reboot.
AND HOPE TO GOD THAT YOUR BOOT ANIMATION works.
????
.
.
.
.
Enjoy your custom bootanimation every time you restart. \[^O^]/
*NOTE: I've even gone as far as to get ricardo milos as my bootanimation. If you ask for a reason, all i can say is for the lols and i saw someone else do it. hehehe good times

Well then
I guess you have a XT1925-13 with the software channel as RETIN
Backup the bootanimation.zip file. It's file path is /oem/retin/media/ bootanimation.zip
Then place your custom bootanimation's zip file which should be named as bootanimation.zip inside /oem/retin/media/ .
The permission of the file should be set to -rw-r--r-- or 644
and it's owner and group should be set to root
The method of doing this depends on the file manager you use.
I've noticed a few errors in my post too I'll fix them
Thanks

Bootanimation doesn't work

Hi,
i just tried me on the bootanimation. This is my desc.txt file
Code:
480 800 30p 1 0 part0p 0 0 part1
I have two folders named (part0 and part1) with files in there named:
boot_htc_win xxx.png
and xxx are the numbers from 001 to 090 and in the other folder 01 to 12.
I hope you can help me. I tryed this Bootanimation with an custom ROM where i enabled the bootanimation in the data/local folder. And after that doesn't worked i also replaced the bootanimation zip in the system/media/resource folder. Than there is only a black screen without andy animation.
When u zipped the files, did u change the compression to "store"?
first not but at the last Version i changed it to store and i also choosed zip
==EDIT==
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m3i90ttk57p7kl1/7IodA7vOdA
maybe this helps
I downloaded it and i know where u went wrong.
Ur desc.txt is fine.
Folder "part0" is fine.
Now the "part1" folder is wrong.
In part0 u have .png files 1 - 12
In part1 ur .png files r 1 - 90 they should be 13 - 102.
Soo
part0 files 1 - 12
part1 files 13 - 102
Dont forget aswell when u zip the file to set compression to store.
Thank you so much The first part now works wonderfull but the 2nd part doesn't apear. Any ideas?
I put it on my phone and seems to work fine.. whats the second part supposed to do? Looking at the png files, the bootanimation to me seems fine
2nd part should be the loading circle. Maybe the phone is simply to fast booting so the 2nd part isn't shown I'll test it on an other rom what takes longer to boot

hey can you help me with my bootanimation problem?
itried everything
on my phone no bootanimation works
i tried every bootanimation from XDA forum(xperia sola)
earlier every bootanimation worked
now none does
i tried reflashing a new formware
still the same problem
I encountered the same thing. Earlier I tried about 3 boot animations, which all worked. The 4th one didn't work, and afterwards, the previous 3 didn't work either!!! Now I can't get any of them to work.... I think my files are all file. I'm using the Boot Anim program with the 400 boot animations. Through abd didn't work, by using the ROM didn't work, through the recovery gives me an error (for all 4, even those that worked), and directly pasting into /system/media didn't work either... What's the problem here???
Running AOKP jb milestone 2 here.
Permissions
At least on my lg g flex 2 it only worked with the permissions at exactly rw- r-- r--
I also had the problems before and nothing worked, I setted permissions to higher and tried around, but it only worked with rw- r-- r--.
Also I heard there shold be no Thumbs.db files.
The other things should be testable on a preview program.

[bootanimation] Video's can now be used as animations - Plus a new custom PS One anim

GOOD NEWS!
You can now use .mp4 video files as your boot animations (if you didn't see it on the portal). You can follow the directions here (you must be rooted for the new method to work):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/xda-university/guide-set-video-bootanimationtesters-t2915445
Also, because I was testing to see if things would work I whipped up a new animation for everyone. Nothing fancy, just a good old timely classic from my childhood. A custom (orginal) Playstation boot screen re-worked with a new 3d logo, etc. etc.
I will be giving directions for the new video method, but I am also uploading files if you want to do it the old way.
PREVIEW:
FLASHABLE ZIPS NOTE:
The first flashable zip replaces ONLY the boot animation in the "/system/media" directory and is the video type. It makes no other changes.
The second flashable zip is intended for Sprint stock based sense roms and is also the video type. The zip not only contains the bootanimation, but also a backup of the original "default.xml" file in "/system/customize/CID" and the original "bootanimation" binary in the "/system/bin" directory. This is in case you would like to go back to the old image sequence based bootanimations.
DIRECTIONS:
VIDEO:
First, download the "bootanimation" binary from the link above. Make a backup of your current "bootanimation" binary in the directory "/system/bin" and then copy the new binary you downloaded into that same directory. Change the permission of the binary file to 0755 and you are done with that.
Next, copy whichever video "bootanimation.zip" file you want into the "/system/media" directory and change the files permissions to 0644 / rw-r-r.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
For Sprint stock users you need to do one more thing. Get a file manager for android and edit the "default.xml" file located in the directory "/system/customize/CID". Open the file to edit and scroll down till you see this sequence:
Code:
<BootConfiguration>
<BootAnimation animation="/system/customize/resource/***whateverbootanimation.zip***" />
and change it to this:
Code:
<BootConfiguration>
<BootAnimation animation="/system/media/bootanimation.zip" />
reboot and enjoy!
Questions, problems, further clarification... I'm happy to help. Just leave a comment.
If you want to use any of the bootanimations I have created, go right ahead. You have permission. All I ask is that you make mention of where you got the animation and that I created it. Pretty simple. :good:
Hold on, shouldn't boot animations be in picture format? Last time I tried flashing an mp4, my boot animation wouldn't play. Now no other boot animations play no matter how I change it. How can this be possible?

not working
i use this method not only didnt it work, like an idiot i didnt backup my bootanimation bin file and now i just see a blank screen:crying:

[bootanimation][resurrection-remix][480x800]

RESURRECTION REMIX LATEST BOOTANIMATION
I came across the new boot animation made by AltanKRK {Creator of Resurrection Remix ROM} which he posted on Google+
It looked amazing and I wanted it desperately, I down scaled it and now I'm sharing it with all of you...
I down sclaed the boot animation to 480x480 and it works flawlessly on Galaxy grand duos..
**Didn't made it to 480x800 because then it looked out of proportion**
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Download bootanimation.zip from the attachments below..
2. Move it to /system/media {Optionally backup the old bootanimation.zip by renaming it to bootanimation.zip.old}
3. Set permissions as RW-R-R
4. Reboot
5. BOOM you have the latest awesome boot animation... :highfive:
***This zip is not flashable, you manually have to push it to your device***
TESTED ON:-
Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos GT-I9082 with Resurrection Remix v5.4.5
Note:- This will work with any phone with custom rom & matching screen resolution [480x800]
You can use file explorer like ES File Explorer to change the file permissions...
Edit: Flashable zip now available.. Check post #3

How to access read and write properties after going into properties. I use ES file explorer. It shows error while copying!! Also, I tried flashing your zip file and the new boot animation is the android logo. I want the Ressurrection Remix logo. I think you've uploaded the wrong zip file.

Hey the flashable zip works fine for me..
About the copy error you told, verify root is enabled in Settings-> Developer Settings
Open ES file explorer, open the left menu scroll down to tools and make sure root explorer is enable, then try to copy...
Then select the file open properties and change the permissions to RW-R-R..
Then reboot..
Refer to the screenshot below..
Note:- In the screenshot you've posted you're trying to change the file permissions while the file is in your downloads folder but the permissions option is available for files in root specific directories.. So first copy and then change permissions..

Though I'll still suggest to manually push the file to /system/media and setting permissions to RW-R-R

First setup your trebuchet file manager ---
Follow the steps--open trebuchet --setting--general setting--browsing mode--make it root access mode.Now you can see other sections of your mobile storage.here you see /system partition--tap on that browse for media folder there.And paste the zip file in that folder.Manage permission as said above and you are done.

[NEED HELP] How to edit the GSI or .img Files for Fixing Bugs

Okay,
I've taken Erfan's GSI file to make it bugless for our Device..
When I went to edit and modify that img file (A GSI File),It behaved pretty well..
Then, When I've Repacked the image file and Went to flash the file(Ofcoused,Flashed Successfully) , It behaved an odd way!,Well It booted to the Bootloader after showing the Logo...(In just 3 seconds)
I would like to ask you guys, Where did this go wrong
I would be thankful to you
Yours Obediently,
Shravan Vadeghar
Man ... Do patch with files ... if you make zip , you can flash zip with files to repleace incorrect files to correct files ...
That was my patch for build.prop . You must modify the meta-inf to working correct , and repleace/delete build.prop in my zip This zip is only sample , and is only for twrp .
I was talking about the .img file
I unpacked with AutoTool and repacked. And my device goes to bootloader too. I guess some repack tools have problems. Or maybe we are doing something wrong with file_contexts.
Edit: I think problem is with file permissions. Make all folders chmod 755 and make files and apk and such chmod 644. Best of luck.
