News::: Development has begun! - Samsung Galaxy A50 Guides, News, & Discussion

Kernel sources released!! TWRP hopefully will arrive today as reported by dev.
Edit: Twrp has got delayed due to the dtbo partition system as used by A50 (similar to S10). But yes devs are on to it. HAVE TO WAIT FOR OFFICIAL TWRP.

Awesome news. I did not expect it so soon. Will you be able to install official updates with twrp as the recovery?

Upgraded from Redmi note 5 pro to this phone
It'd be glad to see developers working for this phone

I will give it a try right now. Installing the latest version that has been released to check if Night Sight and Portrait Mode are working. I tried previous versions of Arnova and nothing seems to work.
Update: The lastest version was installed successfully but Portrait Mode and Night Sight are not working. Remains black with the icon in the middle. I dont know what to say about the app until it is going to be developed for Exynos 9610 as well.

Any update about twrp ?
Hi guys..any update about twrp? Or root? Waiting to twrp........???

Development taking too long??
I brought the Samsung A50 and wanted to flash pixel experience in it, But the development is taking too long that even the official
TWRP did not get released. I read that the developers are onto it but we request to get all the custom ROMs and themes quickly into Samsung Galaxy A50.

Even Samsung hasn't been diligent in releasing the kernel sources. There are only 2 releases, last of which is ASC7 as compared to the latest firmware ASE2. Since the same kernel has to boot TWRP as well as Android for all Samsung Pie devices, having a permanent TWRP is going to be tricky. Someone has to actively keep patching TWRP for the A50 which seems unlikely to happen without any dedicated developers and the latest kernel sources.
On top of that comes the development for Exynos 9610, which is not used in any other Samsung device till date, without proper sources and drivers and you can get the picture of how tough or flawed development is going to be for this device.

I don't think so, since we can use GSI roms

Just wanted to bring to attention that Samsung published the ASE2 kernel sources following my request from last week. So, we now have the latest kernel sources which can at least be used to get twrp working, in case there is any developer around.

WiFi and mobile data in my a50 automatically stopped worked...tried everything... didn't work...then had to factory reset..now they r working

Is there a Custom ROM for Huawei 7X/Mate SE?

Would like to use a clean version of Android instead of the EMUI version that is loaded on all their phones.
Seeing how these phones are identical, figured what would work for one would work with the other.
Thanks for giving me any insight.
Coming from the Galaxy Note 4 - hoping I'm not making a mistake with this phone that is enroute.

Guess you haven't bothered looking at the ROMs and development section. While alot of ROMs are not what I would deem "daily material", their is working going on to get ROMs on this device.

Here is a list of supported custom ROMs on Mate SE, Choose the A only ROM.

The whole custom ROM world has changed, Now you need to apply system.img instead of rom.zip using fastboot command.
I have the PHH-Treble installed on my Huawei Mate SE. here is the link.

In addition, I'd check out the Open Kirin site. I've read the Lineage version is outstanding and well tuned for the chip. They list the 7x as supported but I've read the Mate SE most certainly is also.

Coincidentally, just booted that ROM (on my SE) today. It's very very good, noticed a few minor glitches to do with the camera and navigation (will let them know about em).
I'll admit though, emui8 is growing on me It's certainly better than 5.1 was. Love to see the roms becoming available though. No doubt when updates stop (or before), they will be critical to have.

I don't mind emui except that the power-saver regularly kills tasker, ad-blocking vpns, etc. I've tried everything to exempt them from power saving but no go. The battery life is outstanding though (I usually only lose 15% after a full day's usage), so for average users it's a bonus.

Nothing terribly serious. I didn't use it for long, but the camera option for selfie shutter 'palm to camera' didn't work. Also the recently taken shots didn't show in the bottom gallery (I read this is fixed now). And the navigation arrows at the bottom seemed to not be persistent somehow (after a reboot this was okay).
It's easy to go back to stock, except if you haven't backed everything up, have to reconfigure, add / subtract apps etc.
I'd suggest searching for the openKirin website, they seem to be doing the most development. Also follow their directions, they worked for me and pretty easy.
Hi
How does one flash the "Openkirin_los_beta4" Iso to the Mate SE (BND-L34)? TWRP?? Fastboot??? what are the exact steps to not render it a paper weight again lol; Do you need Magisk-v16.0 to root it as well?

No, you don't need a custom bootloader.
You only need unlocked bootloader and unlocked frp.
TWRP is not supported on OpenKirin ROMs (especially on 7x twrp won't work).
You just need to flash the .img file through bootloader and then reboot to recovery and do a factory data reset.
Can anyone give me some advice: I have the Mate SE, currently on EMUI 8.0.0.332 (security update available but not installed), with TWRP and Magisk. I would love to install a custom ROM, but the OpenKirin site says TWRP isn't supported. Can I still install one of those builds and just expect no support if something goes wrong, or should I find some way to return to full stock before flashing? And if I need stock recovery, where can I find a download for it? I haven't had any luck on searching here yet.

Pretty much any GSI works so long as you have updated to EMUI 8 sometime in the past.

Is there more ROMs?

I recently purchased an tab S4 just an update from my previous Samsung tablet. I was wondering is there more ROMs for this tablet or ROMs currently in development? I noticed theres like 2 ROMs for this tablet. I have a note 8 and I'm currently running deluxerom on and it, and I really enjoy the tweaks and customization I'm able to do. I was looking for a same kind of feature for my tablet. Would greatly appreciate the answers I'm looking for. Thanks!

Pretty much zero support. You can get a few 9.0 GSI ROMs to boot, but they all have issues. Mine has been sitting around since it was purchased while still using my old 2014 model.

I had thought the same thing, but it seems the S3 is the last tablet to get real support.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development
Some of the ones for 9 will work, but most features won't work too well, if at all.
You might be able to get another rom to work, I know I had no luck. Even trying ones with similar hardware, they all failed to even flash since the booting numbers are different.
Kind of have to be satisfied with Samsung, half baked custom roms or sell the thing.

Hey Veekay I tried it and you're right unfortunately I came across the same issue as you brother
Now I'm stuck and I need help sorting my device out, was wondering if you knew this issue or could help?
When I got the stock firmware back and then when I flash TWRP with odin after going into TWRP I get 0mb as internal
so when I format and then go back into my load up the screen after SAMSUNG says "verification failed" and then reset
on the bottom. I tried other options as well. Without even wiping on TWRP the devices boots up into the setup wizard for the firmware fine
but after I wipe TWRP so I can get access to my internal drive my samsung boots into that verification reset screen. Got any clue as to how I can
resolve this issue? Thanks a bunch!

Have you tried just reloading the latest stock firmware from scratch?
Yup, its unfortunate that there isn't much community support for this device. The Tab S4 is Project Treble supported and a few GSI ROMS do work. But as others have said they are unstable and not for use as a daily driver. We have a few discussion threads here talking about them.

you can install a Gsi rom, with two ways
Via TWRP, or Via Fastboot : https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/ (Tab S4 is a-only arm64)
for any other question, it is better to ask in the thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...vice-development/aosp-9-0-phh-treble-t3831915

You are going to have to just wipe it and start over from square one, unless you made a TWRP backup before starting all of this.
Download and flash the latest stock rom from recovery and then you can load twrp again.
I was looking at the possibility of using GSI's on some devices, and while they can offer new life to older devices, they're not entirely stable all the time unless you're willing to make your own changes. I know Lineage has made some excellent progress, but it's not fullproof yet and I wouldn't try it unless you're willing to not use your device as a daily use device.
I had an extra T-Mobile Revvlry which is basically a rebranded Moto g7 Play that I installed the Lineage GSI image and it works fairly well. However, this is more the exception to the rule and Moto devices, I feel, are far simpler in design vs certain Samsung devices. It also had a ton of trial and error involved for me to get it up and running properly.
Is it possible as the s4 becomes older, more people buy it and Samsung stops releasing official updates that someone will come along and create a ROM for it? Or is it more like Samsung locked the bootloaders and its close to impossible to write a ROM for it? Is it still possible to root the s4?

samsung, maybe at the end of july to give the upgrade to android 10....it is very likely to happen I think
yes,all Gsi Roms still have various problems unfortunately...
my opinion is: stay to stock rom for now....you can "uninstall" many applications if you want & without root, via "samsung package disabler"(paid) from playstore, or with this way:

also, you can Install "NiceLock Downloader Companion App" ,to add some features on your device : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/themes/nicelock-module-download-links-module-t3923844
with this way I operate my device until now..

No hype, no sales, no development.
I bet OnePlus 6/6T is having more ROMs
Kind of wondered the same thing, also coming from a pocophone. I had planned to go custom, but now question if it is even worth it as there seems to be little support. I haven't run non-aosp on a phone in forever.

Other people will disagree but having no working twrp is a big factor. Let's see what happens when OnePlus release there android 11 mash up maybe we will have twrp working and more interest ?

This TWRP works fine for flashing and decrypting on custom ROMs. So it's not that.
And Android 11 will not magically fix everything, if anything, it'll break things like encryption even more.
TWRP is has lots of progress as of late, fastbootd tools has been implemented, dynamic partitions are better handled. Only significant thing left would be ADB sideload.

The decryption is broken because of OnePlus poor implemention of keymaster. Android 11 is once again changing keymaster which will break decryption even on devices that can successfully decrypt on Android 10. This means it will take time for TWRP to properly support decryption on Android 11.
When that happens, decryption might work for 7T/Pro because now OnePlus has to reimplement the new keymaster,. hopefully right this time.
As for flashing ROMs, just use adb push on your PC and push it to /cache or /mnt, then you can flash easily.

I am pretty sure you can just use WSL / 2 on Windows if you don't have Linux installed.
Everything has been built and shared over the last year. Name a rom. It's been built already. If you want more android R roms, just wait they're coming. But... Twrp works fine. Even on oos. Use LR Team Twrp (aka chinese twrp) it works perfectly. Flash away or what knot, I have never heard anything about a broken keymaster. that's the first I heard of that one. Flash whatever, build whatever, enjoy phone fun.

It absolutely does decrypt on oos. One must do a full format in twrp first. Then it works perfectly, every feature, 100%. Yes, I did du for 7t in December last year, or January.

Indeed it does you do a full format it works but then reboot and it's the same won't mount anything same as before.

Funny I have had no problems for 10 months, on oos or custom.

Question TO BE CLOSED AS IS DEFUNCT

I have just unlocked bootloader on the latest Fold 3 F926b Beta and the camera is fully functional!!! - Seems sammy have finally done away with this silly thing lol!!
Please see vid below - i will upload another showing proof of boot splash red text then camera working
here is a video showing the angry warning text and the device booting and me using the camera
So there we have it! hopefully development will take off a bit now and also apologies!!!
Had i bothered to tinker in the last couple of weeks we may have known this earlier!!!!
Finally........
After testing i now know which file can fix the camera on B1 - its to risky to flash it on android 11 as i almost lost download mode SO I AM NOT GOING TO BRING ATTENTION TO THIS FILE JUST YET - THERE WILL BE ONE LOON WHO FLASHES IT ON A11 WHILST ROOTED AND LOOSES DOWNLOAD FOREVER
The camera issue was actually "fixed" in beta 2 ZUKA!!!
- i have tested this on B1 where camera broke on BL unlock and also on android 11 fixing the camera issue but causing download mode issuses.
What this means is that we have something to possibly bite back with should sammy lock down the cameras again
Big thanks to @dr.ketan for the help in finding this
Does f926n have to wait until Android 12 is updated to brush the machine normally, and the camera will not be locked

Flash beta2 or 3 for the N model and you should hopefully find you can unlock bootloader and camera will work.
We do not have root on beta yet though so it maybe a week or two till we can be rooted and use camera
Great for international folks. Meanwhile *cries in US*

do you still have cam lock on the US variant on Beta 2 or three?
Can anyone in Korea who has had the stable OTA please try and unlock bootloader to see if camera works?

it doesn't show up in the settings but that isn't a huge surprise
I'm pretty sure the ZUKG rom is the beta, isn't it?
You may find once the stable release hits out Folds this will once again be locked down and the cameras won't work once the bootloader is unlocked.

Yeah, I can't find that either.
I would also love a simple guide of some sort for stupid old people like me, how to root that unlocked boot loader beta version
Thanks in advance
Edit:
I wonder if that's the link for Beta 2 for 926B
Edit 2:
Aaaand I wonder if this is the link for Beta 3?
we cannot root beta yet (or i have been unable too and no one else has even bothered trying lol)
I think we will stand a better chance when we have full firmware and source code but early indications from the "stable" korean version is that Samsung are still killing cameras on bootloader unlock

I tried unlocking BL of F926N (not B) after installation of OTA update a12 (BUL4) released on 12/15, but camera was still dead as mentioned above. And rooting via magisk didn't work well either. So I reflashed firmware of a11 (AUJ7) using Odin and rooted without TWRP.
EDIT: Samsung have really redeemed themselves! my moaning below is now moot
This all confirms that this has been a deliberate move by Samsung to impede the modding community
yes they have done this before with knox etc etc but killing a fundamental piece of the device's hardware just because they don't like rooting is wrong and also probably ILLEGAL if they are not advising in the Download mode screen that this is what will happen.
There has been no statement as to why, they are behaving like the insulting kid in class who hides behind the teacher when the class revolts at their actions lol.
I invite Someone from Samsung to explain whats going on and why they are doing this of course, but silence will prevail with all things Fold 3 (much like it did with the first "fix" that was trumpeted on twitter months ago)
I am hopeful that the workaround i have found with @dr.ketan will see us good for a bit when the release firmware for android 12 eventually lands in Summer of 2022 (yes im being a grumpy sarcastic child today lol) but that will no doubt be patched by these Sammy psychopaths against modding eventually.
Edit - now moot

VERY much looking to jump the Sammy ship as well. Just seems like they aren't interested in listening to the customers...even us. I truly believe they are butt-hurt that the dev community makes better ROMs and improves their products.
But the Pixel and Sony are looking WAY better.

Question Are custom recoveries (TWRP) being worked on for this device?

I'm really keen on the hardware of this device and want to know if its likely that we'll get TWRP + Custom Roms for it?
Not a big fan of MIUI and Xiaomi have hinted that they won't support this device for that long

I know what the MUIPRO team has on our TWRP device + firmware, but for now their site is moving ((
Nice to see that they finally created a forum for the 12X! Overall I hope that TWRP and Custom Roms will come to the 12X sooner or later, I thinks it's still a new device (and not on the cheap side), so eventually developers will get their hands on it.
Chinese developers have made TWRP for 12x,But it is encrypted and needs special tools to flash.
