Gcam 4.2 Mods + Magisk 2x Exposure Mod (Ali) - Moto G6 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hello,
GCam mods:
This gcam 4.2 mod originates from Potter/HTC developers and has been tweaked for sharpen and higher frame count on our device. Also be sure to go to settings and set Potter Extra/af to 20x (will be set as default in future).
2x Exposure Mod
This magisk module is for Ali and pie vendor only.
For Pie Vendor Only and will make viewfinder laggy
This shutter speed will be twice as slow as what is displayed in exif or manual mode.
All credits to Tadi and Savitar.

As long as we're 32bit, we can't get newer than 4.2.
Yes, it does.

2x Exposure Mod work on the official ROM Ali?
there is an improvement compare to the apk gcam 4.2 of the LG Q7 that is used on moto G6 Oreo?

The exposure mod will probably only work on pie vendor.
The lg q7 gcam has lower max hdr+ frame count, no raw support, no manual focus option, broken auto focus, and high digital gain usage.
I think you will see better results with this mod.

OK, thanks. look forward to receiving the update OTA pie

Bug
In v2, we need to use 20af? And there is a bug in taking photos in RAW even though "enable raw" is disabled.

No, and thank you for finding that one. I'll look into the fix.

1.0 is better than 2.0
Use version 1.0, in my opinion, it is better than version 2.0 for photos and I do not think a new version is coming.

Edited: Nevermind.

The image quality of version 1.0 seems to be better and sharper than version 2.0, just as the file size is larger in 1.0. In version 2.0 there are bugs already mentioned in relation to RAW photos, the camera crashes if you take snapshots in fast sequences with the HDR + enabled and there is no way to take new photos until HDR + processing is finished. (In version 1.0 it is possible).

Okay, working on fixing them. I'll apply the old sharpen values and change buffer size to accommodate more hdr+ pictures. 1.0 had more sharpen artifacts however, which is partly where the increase in file size came from despite same jpeg compression level. In lower light settings you'll have slightly fewer you can process nonetheless due to higher possible frame count.
Just fixed infinite focus in 2.0 based by setting correct hyperfocal distance for G6, but will upload after a few more fixes.

Version 3 seems more stable, with no apparent bug, good and stable photo quality. The only problem is still the impossibility of taking a new photo until HDR + processing is finished, but otherwise, it's perfect.

I can do another variant or option for lower hdr+ frame counts to work around this, but it is a trade off. The high frame count causes this.

Yes, I'll do another variant with a lower frame count within about a day. You can also just disable hdr+ if you want to snap quick photos. Only regression from v2 to v3 is smartburst is enabled but doesn't work, in v2 it was disabled because of this.

Hey, a bug found in version 3: You can not make recordings on the camera.
Edit: only occasionally, the first attempt at recording did not start, but at the second attempt it seems to be already working

RAW Support and long exposures

Hi
Does anyone know if there is a way to save images as RAW in the Moto Z Play?
Also, the manual (pro) mode allows you to change the exposure duration but this seems to be maxed to 1/6 - any way to get to longer exposure times?
Thank you.
No idea about the RAW support but if you want to take long exposure shots there are a few camera apps on the Play Store which should do the trick (Camera FV-5 Lite for example) but I never tried any so you may have to try a few in order to find something you're happy with.

Cheers! I've got Camera FV-5 installed and it does present longer exposure times, but I cant tell the difference between them and the stock camera photos. For example, photos taken in stock camera at 1/6 look the same as FV5 at 5 second exp. I don't have my phone to hand but will post some examples later.

I'm not surprised if there's no differences between the 2 but I thought you could make 30 seconds exposure shots with Camera FV-5 (which would surely make a difference with the stock camera)
About RAW support, from what I've read the Z Play doesn't support it unfortunately. You'd need the TrueZoom mod to get RAW support, which is quite an expensive buy.

Edit: Tried to save RAW with Snap but although it gives me the option I was not able to find a RAW image on my card...
I use the Snap Camera app from Playstore. It's extremely versatile and gives you tons of options and it has RAW support with our Z Play.
It needs some time to try out all options and find out the best for the phone and it also costs a few bucks (although there is a free version too). But I think it's worth it. For example it's also the only app I've found which let's you tourn of the denoise filter which is sometimes very helpfull when making pictures of landscapes which lots of details.
The interface is a little annoying at first but you can turn off everything and build your own interface with the free customizable shortcut buttons (settings - advanced - on screen settings).
It has also a good support on XDA.
Thanks for this. It's odd, camera fv 5 says the phone does not support RAW. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What really bugs me though is the exposure times. I'll give it a try to see what sort of image I get with a 30 sec exposure now.

If im not mistaken, Camera2API supports raw format. Whenever Lenovo finally enables it (Nougat?) we should be able to export to raw format.

I found that long exposure shots have a very limited use :-\
True it's not something you'd use everyday, but it would've been good to have this work as it should. The only other thing I can think of is that they've nerfed it on purpose so the camera mod sells.

Discussion on new 64bit releases

I'm curious as to everyone's thoughts on the advent of 64bit ROMs on the G5 Plus. I know a lot of users here have been interested in getting their hands on these ROMs.
Generally, what do owners think will be some of the advantages and disadvantages of using 64bit ROMs on our phone, both now and in the future?
If you currently are running a 64bit ROM, are you enjoying it and do you find it to be better than 32bit?

The 64 bit Google cam works fine for me, but I haven't been able to find a single one with working HDR+ other than the modified one on the forums here with the broken autofocus that works on 32 bit. Do you have a link to a 64 bit version with working HDR+?

Flattered that you think I'd know, but I'm still on the stock rom and using this blasted 32-bit version with unreliable focus from the nexus. I'm interested in 64-bit ROMs only because I've read that other users have it working more-or-less flawlessly. @defcomg, for example, has posted all kinds of wonderful shots here and on flickr / photography forums, and despite coming up with one of the best modifications for the stock camera app (see his chromatix mod to remove the ugly sharpening and NR), claims that HDR+ is the way to go now.
I just assumed the major x64 versions floating around all worked. I've heard that the Pixel Experience x64 rom has it built in even.

Yes, this is a 64bit build- most are. The Nexus 5x was the last 32-bit version with HDR+, and it doesn't support the settings you show... those options don't even exist in settings on the 32-bit version. Its very basic. I WISH someone would port this to the 32-bit one, but I don't have any realistic reason to think anyone will.

For some reason I still can't get auto focus working when using HDR+. Auto ISO and color balance works with HDR+ on, but the only way I can get it to focus is to swipe to the video, and then back over to take the picture like the 32 bit port. I was able to get auto focus working when I set the rear camera to LEVEL_3, but then HDR+ doesn't process and it takes the photo as if HDR+ were turned off. I've also tried turning ZSL on and off via the buildprop and rebooting each time but it didn't seem to make a difference so I left it on.
That being said, this is still a big improvement over the ported 32 bit version; much more stable and much better at holding focus when switching back over to the camera, and much thanks for posting your settings. I've tried this camera before but couldn't get HDR+ working under at all because I couldn't figure out the correct settings for our phone.

No slow motion, no 60fps either. 4k stutters a bit but 1080p 30 fps seems to work fine. You have to set it to 60 fps then reopen the camera, otherwise it's zoomed in. Setting it to 60 fps, it still records in 30 fps.

Sorry for noob question
But why isn't gcam hdr+working on 64 bit roms?
Currently I was using pixel rom 64bit version.
I noted that hdr+ was not working, but auto focus and other issues were fixed.
But I also noted that any picture that I took in landscape mode was around 18.20mb and most of the pics that I took were all of 18.20mb and was quite clear too...
Any comments, I am actually confused with this...
Thanks!!

Is it recording a RAW?
I'm trying one of Savitar's 32-bit Gcam with raw capture on my phone, and it saves a smaller JPEG (2-3mb) and a RAW dng file (18-24mb). If you know anything about photography, you know why RAW is bigger and better, but not always necessary. Otherwise, I can't think of a reason a jpeg would be that big.

yea I understand but thats not RAW for sure, cause it saves in jpeg format only, and are not comparable with RAW shots at all, they can only be compared to HDR+ shots that too only in daylight,
At night those images are blurry and not so good as compared to hdr+ but still their sizes are 17mb to 18.20mb.

Wrong, nexus 5x is a 64bit device with 64bit OS and CPU, it used the 64bit version of 3.2.045 before it turned into ARM64 only app from 4.4.x .
the 4.2.035 version exists due to Nexus 6 being updated to 7.1.1 and SD 805 is still a 32Bit cpu.
and the 3.2.045 version is the last version for Nexus 5 which was officially stopped at 6.0.1.
its worth 64bits rom on 2gb variant?

Google Camera is finally here people ??

Yes you read it correct our long wait is over now. Now we too can enjoy the amazing processing of gcam. Everything works like a charm and there is a significant improvement in the quality. I'm sure this will get better as this is obiously an early build.
And it's not the pixel 2 camera but it's the pixel 3 one!..
Here's what works:
*Portrait mode on both front and back cams(only on humans)
*HDR+, HDR+ enhanced
*Panorama (super glitchy for now)
*And pretty much everything else
*Night mode ( slight improvements only)
*Photo Sphere
Here's what doesn't work:
*Live Google lens
At first the images will look dead.So after you install it you need to increase the saturation. Go to settings , bsg mod settings , saturation and change saturation of front and back cam.
Literally all the credit goes to @xdaakhil for digging this up. If you want to thank someone thank him.
Well my thanks button is down there too ?

Honor P Smart
Mate 10 Lite

Honor 6x

Edit: video and photos sphere works after changing the default storage to internal. Don't know why it doesn't work with the SD card?
Photo sphere is also very buggy
Photos cannot be clicked without enabling HDR+ or HDR+ enhanced.
There is a pinkish tint on highlights. This can be overcome if you guys focus on the lit(highlights) part by tapping on the viewfinder.
This port can work without root or any modifications.

? Don't know why that happened. Try downloading it again.
To those of you who who don't know why portrait only work on humans:
Gcam doesn't utilise the secondary camera that comes with the device as pixel phones have a single lens setup. The portrait is completely software based. You can check this, cover the secondary lens and click a portrait pic, it'll work!
This is also very useful as we will get good quality blur and edge detection like flagships in our budget phones as the software processing is the same in both apps.
So the camera cannot detect Dept between the subject and background as it only uses one lens.
Hello,
please, tell me, did you find optimal settings of gcam for our phone? Saturation and HDR+? I am testing it but I am not finding the perfect combination yet.

Well im also a bit confused about the perfect match.
But this is what I use:
Pixel 3 as the input method in both front and rear cams(for the super res zoom to work)
Saturation, rear cam highlights 2.7 shadow 2.9
Front cam highlights 2.2 shadow 2.6
Tweak around yourself but I couldn't get the cam to take a picture like it is shown in the viewfinder and the skin tones are better in the viewfinder than the final photo ( the details are far better though)
Thank you Fredin. I will test it.
Been lurking for a while, just registered to say thanks, works nicely the difference is pretty big! Panoramic mode is slow and buggy for me but photosphere does the same thing anyway and works well, lastly, is the RAW picture supposed to look really low resolution like it does for me?

I'm not sure as slow motion recording requires hardware support which our phones dosent have.
Normally phones (including ours) records in 30 or 60 fps which is good for taking normal videos but not for slow-mo recording. All the apps you see in playstore just slows down the fps and processes them to slow the video down, but this causes quality loss and an artificial feel to it.
So I don't think we will be about to get slow motion working.

You have to find the right config file, makes the difference between 12meg pics and 3meg. I went through 10 different camera apks and 30 different config files till I found one that has working EIS.

I may disagree with you, slightly. While MIUI camera isn't really great, it isn't trash.
I've also gone through quite a few gcams and configs. It's a hassle for the average user. Not all sensors work great on all configs. Also, sometimes not all modes work good. HDR+ enhanced may improve details (especially for macro and ultrawide), but it takes longer time and introduces some artifacts in some instances.
On the other end, MIUI camera takes instantaneous shots that look good on most occasions.
If you ask me, the average experience is the same in both cameras, one compensates for the other's shortcomings.
For anyone interested, wyroczen's 6.1 reborn has bufferfix even for non-rooted devices. And builds based on gcam 7.3 are mostly stable and capable of utilizing all sensors. Configs differ in number of stacked photos, color reproduction and detail/noise processing, and it's mostly a matter of taste, you can even make your own.

Don't get me wrong, the stock MIUI camera is ideal in terms of functionality, ease of use and quality, but if you're not running the stock ROM, the alternatives are decent. I have one app for video with EIS, one for night time shots and one for pics. Slightly inconvenient to switch around, but it's a small price to pay to run an unmolested AOSP A10 GSI ROM.

That's exactly my point, glad we're on the same page
In order to compensate for stock camera performance, you'll go through a lot of trouble, which is why a good stock camera port should also be an option.
As for me, when i used AOSP, I'd add a lot of mods through xposed and magisk. MIUI already has them so I guess this time I will pass.
As a number of people have commented here-- be aware that the MIUI 12 stock cam produces DRAMATICALLY better photos that MIUI 11 did, particularly in indoor/low light situations. The results rival Gcam, without the fuss. And MIUI 12 itself is very good.

Themes / Apps / Mods Gcam for Xperia 10 III

UPDATE 2022.02.26_GCam 8.1
This 8.1 version of Gcam works very well out of the box (aux cameras, video. Night mode etc etc)
Arnova8G2: Gcam-8.1.101.build-V6.2.211013
Download Gcam-8.1.101.build-V6.2.211013 by Arnova8G2.
www.celsoazevedo.com
The app crashes only in video rallenty mode.
I changed the 7.4 version below with 8.1 above.
Hi guys, I tried a lot of gcams, finally I found one that works well with 99% of features.
https://1-dontsharethislink.celsoazevedo.com/file/filesc/NGCam_7.4.104-v2.0_eng.apk
I attach the config file by myself.
Only bug is video recording with aux cameras.
If someone found a better setting or a better combo (gcam+setting), please reply to this post
Does it make the camera better?
yes, really better. With the HDR+ Auto (non advanced), shots are also more quick than stock (that is really slow to be honest). The overall quality is very better, and night mode, potrait mode, astrography etc etc are a considerable plus. This are two shots made during this reply. IMG file is the Gcam, DCIM is Sony (1x cam, no adjustment, all auto).
the right one is with Gcam?

yes, but this is only an example. In outdoor or dark conditions there is a lot of difference.

Video works for me for all 3 cameras. I didn't install the config though, just went to settings -> Advanced -> Auxiliary cameras -> added 3 cameras and assigned appropriate samsung tree icons . After initial crash, it's working fine

Well! The aux not working in video in original post was because I had the video stabilization on. Talking about photos, have you seen any colour balance difference between the cameras?

Yes, and focus goes in and out...stock camera focussing is spot on, for now, using the stock
The focus is good for me, better than stock, expecially in LL condition. Try my config disabling video stab.
I'm seriously considering getting this phone. Can anybody post more samples from GCam?

Hello, are you able to shot in RAW mode? That is Raw+Jpg?
thanks!
Yes, you can shot in raw+jpeg
I upload the last config file:
-the video stab. Is disabled because video capture with aux freeze the app.
-every gcam 7 feature is working well
-colors are quite different switching cameras, I suppose there's a little settings to do well. But this difference is already present in the stock camera app.

You are right, it just saves the RAW files in a different folder (Picture\RAW), that's why I wasn't able to see them!
Do you know if it's possible to save them in the same folder of the JPGs?
No I don't know, I just haven't this kind of need yet.
A little bit offtopic because I did not try GCam yet, but my 10iii arrived yesterday and the pictures (same objects, auto-mode, sony app & opencamera) are im comparison to my 4 year old XZ1c smaller in resolution and size (1,4mb vs 5,8mb) and quality almost as bad as the xz1c. Highest resolution I can set is 12MP in the settings. Are there any settings I have overseen? Or do I have to send it back and buy the Zenfone 8 although I loved Xperia phones since years?

I bought this phone at launch. And I will never change with a zenphone 8. I'm very happy with this phone and every update Sony made has solved a problem. I love it. So to come back on topic try the gcam in this post with the last setting.

Thanks, I just tried your GCam with the latest xml. Might be the best app for 10iii, shutter is quicker than stock, white balance and colors as well, but still the results are awful for a phone from 2021 if you compare it to the xz1c-pictures attached. I don't get it why Sony builts really good cameras (I'm on Canon, but anyway..) and the ones in their phones are bad. After 11 years Xperia-phones I'll go for the Zenfone now

Thanks a bunch for the all done config, but it was not obvious how to import it.
See https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/settings09/ and follow instructions for GCam 7.x
HI! can I post here the pictures I made with the factory camera, is that all right?
