I was with a friend who has a new iPhone that was showing 5G. I have the dual SIM international version on ATT and I know it misses band 30 so I was interested to see just how much faster his network speed was. We both ran SPEED TEST and I got a miserable 15MB download and 10MB upload. Meantime.... He couldnt even get more than 2MB on both. He wasn't very happy! We tested web browsing and mine was faster. What a con!

It's not true 5G, it's 5GE it's just a fancier albeit deceptive way of saying 4G LTE+ (if I'm wrong on the LTE+ part my bad I know it's still 4G though) real 5G still has a little bit to go before it's full 5G

You're absolutely right. They're basically pulling the same Stunt they did when the started labeling HSPA+ as 4G when it was in fact more like 3.5G. Total sham. In order to be considered 5G you need to have a minimum speed of 1Gps. I get about 540Mps on LTE+ in Canada. I don't think AT&T can even come close to those speeds. And it's not even 5G.

My wife has an Att S10+ and I have a G975F variant.
the status bar shose 5G - but speeds are just typical - however, I have noticed that it is faster than my phone/ I was outside the other day and my wifes phone got 120MB download and 75 MB upload - I did a speed test on my phone at the same spot and I only got 60MB down and 30MB up.
I think it might be because the G975F varient is missing one band that is on the ATT Variant. It isn't reallt 5G but it is a bit faster on ATT phones. I think becuase it is Enhanced LTE....hopefully some day we will be able to flash ATT CSC on the G975F phones....I
don't remember which band is missing from the G975F variant, but it does definately mean that devices that are from the F Varients are not as fast on LTE as the ATT PHOnes.

Yeaaaaaa I was right. But in all seriousness it's shady as hell business practice (but then again almost all the carriers in the US were guilty of it at some point)

Don't take this the wrong way but your home screen looks like my LG lucid that ran gingerbread. It gives me original Droid vibes as well I dig it.

AT&T should be held accountable by somebody for their scummy practices - or at least called out for it. It's ridiculous!

Are you living under a rock? The other 3 major carriers called them out on it already, months ago. There's even an xda article from earlier today where Sprint and ATT settled a lawsuit about misleading customers about 5g "E".

No. I just haven't seen it. Have you seen everything, everywhere?

This 5G stuff is fluff anyways. I live in a rural area with barely any LTE coverage. Will most likely never see 5G here. I deploy IOT hardware (autonomous air quality/meterological arrays, for example) and they all use 2G GSM hardware. They just post data to an offshore server. Point is not all applications need low latency gigabit wireless. That's what my Xirrus wifi is for.
And where LTE service is good, I'm seeing nearly 200Mbps /50Mbps (down/up) speeds with latency averaging in the mid 20s to low 30s. That's good enough for me. Just remove the stupid wifi needed to get big updates and we're good. With unlimited plans these days it's ridiculous to have to tether off another LTE device to get larger updates.

Att recently updated to 4x4 bands and 5ge is their way of showing it instead of something like 4g+

T- Mobile Branded Galaxy Note II Compared to N7100 (I bought both Returning T-Mobile)

Hi guys!
Okay so more rather to cater to my burning curiosity of how the T-Mobile Varient would do with HSPA+ 42 and the 1700/2100 I went down this morning grabbed a white version and came home and did some test. And here's what I've found.
#1) The T-Mobile Variant of the Note 2 is Made in CHINA! While the N7100 is made in Korea
#2) The T-Mobile Variant had worse download speeds where I live and testing the HSPA+ speeds in my house resulted in the unlocked N7100 beating it on the 1900mhz band. (Keep in mind I only get HSPA+ On t-Mobile near my house all other are's that were tested I have edge on the N7100 they are still refarming.
#3) So I took it upon myself to see is the T-Mobile branded version actually faster? I drove around for about 10-20 miles stopping in different area's and testing, The highest I've Gotten with it was 15mbps down. However I was not able to compare it to the N7100 in the same exact location because that area is not yet refarmed. However Comparing it side by side the N7100 at home the N7100 had the edge in download speeds which was funny to me.
Besides that fact, the N7100 is fully unlocked and no bs from T-mobile on it and the instant I used the T-Mobile version I wanted the N7100 back. So Moral of the story for me was that is it worth getting the T-Mobile version? If your on the Re farmed network I'd say no get the N7100 instead no bloatware faster updates, Speeds won't vary much, and You can tether devices without rooting!
Good to hear others thinking along these same lines. Guess it really depends on whether tour city is being refarmed.
I live in Memphis, and I've heard rumors that we're getting / already have the 1900 band. Guess I might need to find a good way to test before hand.

So would you be able to tell me if the T-mo Note and the N7100 are exact the same dimensions/shape. I want to buy a case for the T-mo version but I think all the ones on ebay are for the N7100. Maybe you can switch out battery covers to see if they fit. Thanks!
I too was sitting on the fence on whether to pick the the N7100 or T-mobile's handset. I eventually chose the latter for the following reasons. It may not necessarily apply to everyone. I'm not an engineer so I don't know much about technical details but I am very logical in understanding how things work:
1) Tmo has done a fairly good job on refarming the 1900 band for hspa+ and true enough you will get speeds >10mbps. I previously tested this service on an international SGS2 and international GN1. And that was using a prepaid sim. So clearly international versions of samsung will have hspa+ service IF there is coverage. However as to date, we still have to see consistent and widespread coverage of hspa+ on the 1900 band. Who's to say that by year's end the refarming would have been completed to a satisfactory level as promised by T-mobile? What if coverage would still be practically the same in YOUR area? What if completion simply means additional cities/towns but your area basically has already been refarmed to completion. I feel that will be the case with MY area. It's still really "wait and see" for the refarming project. While with the t-mo variant you get consistent hspa+ ALREADY, NOW and greater coverage simply because they have been designed to work with the existing hspa+ AWS bands of Tmo. 1900 hspa+ is just additional for the Tmo variant.
In my case, I use my home wifi. So that situation negates the 4G coverage comparison between the 2 .
I'm curious as to what your home speed differences were? Was it that significant to outweigh the benefit of more consistent hspa+ coverage outside your home? I understand your mobile tests showed Tmo's variant to be the winner by "default". Meaning N7100 didn't have a chance to even compete. That alone is enough for me to chose Tmo's.
2) N7100 has a 21mbps hspa+ radio. Tmo's variant has a 42mbps radio. Although I am not seeing speeds proportionate to the advertised 42mbps radio in my area. I believe some folks around the US have demonstrated 20-30mbps on Tmo's network. Just scourge the net for those blogs and anecdotes. Obviously the 42mbps radio is required for those speeds. I guess it will all depend on the location and if 42mbps hspa+ is enforced on the surrounding towers.
3) re: bloatware - They don't bother me much. However for the tinkerers out there, this may be a deal breaker. But I am certain there is always a way around this for the advanced users.
4) N7100 doesn't have an LTE radio. Tmo's variant potential has this feature. That adds a little future proofing value to it. Check engadget's latest review of Tmo's variant. To quote:
"Also, according to the T889's FCC application, the device includes support for LTE bands 4 (AWS) and 17, though this particular set of radios is currently locked on T-Mobile. We're hoping the AWS LTE band will be enabled for us as soon as the network is ready to push ahead with its next-gen technology, but we haven't heard any official word from Magenta about this. Regardless of what happens, we wouldn't put it past hackers Android programming aficionados to come up with a way of taking advantage of this."
Regardless, by the time LTE would be fully and satisfactorily enforced, we all would have probably moved on to another device.

They are the same damn phone except for the International version is made in Korean (says on label) and the U.S. variants are made in China (again, on the label) but the specs are the same as far as the meat and bones and the accessories will all work together just like the Galaxy S 3.... I have both a T-mobile (which I picked up today) Titanium color and An International Note in white and my T-mobile is performing a tad quicker as far as benchmarks but that really does not mean much... As far as where it's made.... I, personally, don't care cause they are both the same phone and qc for Samsung (in general) is the same across the board. I almost want to keep the T-mobile AND the International but I don't know if my budget will like that although I did get the International N7100 for $589.99 plus $12.00 back in ebay bucks so I can't complain on the price! The T-mobile was $688.00 OTD when I purchased it today but the HUGE difference is that the T-mobile will work on HSPA+ networks with both T-mobile and AT&T (if unlocked) and the International is edge on T-mobile(nothin you can do)... So I have more options as far as Pre-paid services and I can obtain insurance or a warranty without a problem in the US with the T-mobile version also... Another big plus! The International version is nice because it has hardly any bloat and it gets updates quickly! Who knows when we will see multitasking on the T-mobile version although they aren't as bad as some networks for updates... My opinions on the two versions....

That's one way to look at it I guess. If you get 1900 Mhz at your house and don't want to use your wifi, ok. I would take the Tmo version with wifi calling app and HSPA+42 radio with next years LTE bands built in and just run a debloated stock rom when they start popping up here (or pull your own bloat out using TB). I got one today at Tmo, rooted it, uninstalled a bunch of garbage, and am really happy with the device. The only thing I "want" is the TV animation when shutting the screen off lol. Oh, and I don't like the boot audio either of the SGH-T889, but that will change in a week or so when ROM's start getting released To each there own, although I'd bet the N7100 will get superior dev support...

I'm going to receive my T-Mobile Note2 in a few days and I chose it pretty much for the same reasons as what had already been stated.
I am not based in the US..but I'm based in the Philippines and will just unlock my Note2. I got it through Wirefly so the price difference really did sway me to get it over the international variant. I also like that it is LTE capable so at least it's future proof somehow.
I am very capable of tinkering with phones so I can easily get rid of bloat and such.
My main concern is the amount of dev support this would be getting. I would imagine that due to the similar hardware, porting ROMs meant for international version would be relatively easy.
I'm wondering though if I could just flash an international based ROM straight away since I don't intend to use this with TMO anyway so I can live without sms/call/data of TMO as long as it can still somehow work with my international SIM and the phone still fully function.. I don't want to wait for updates via carrier.
I've read several of you are talking about uninstalling bloatware, wouldn't this hinder in the OTA update process (we should get one soon for the multi-window feature) whenever it gets pushed out. I thought it was best to disable or freeze the apps through TB rather than uninstalling it, could someone clarify that for me?

Besides unlocking a TMo note 2, did you have to do anything else to make it work on 3G on ATT? Did you actually test that it would work on ATT 3G or this is just a guess based on specs?

its called root and titanium backup if you want the Tmo version and no bloatware. root is achievable on the Tmo Note 2, along w/CWM. i am sticking w/the stock rom since i plan to use S-Pen quite a bit. we'll see as the weeks go by and roms start to appear.
i went the tmo vs international due to that 1900 isn't in my area yet and won't be until end of year and our version as prev noted does have the LTE hardware and cheaper than importing an unlocked phone. has anyone noticed VERY slow A-GPS lockons when in doors? my gnex was freakin instant indoors.
Can anyone else post what color they have and where it was Made?

I've been looking into buying a new phone and the oppo n1 is at the top of my list but one thing is that I have not a clue witch carriers will be supported and if eventually be able to get it from Verizon (although I highly doubt it Verizon is kind of stingy with anything to do with developing anything out of there control).
I'm pretty sure the N1 is a GSM phone, don't quote me on that though

You are correct. The Oppo N1 is a GSM phone.
Sprint and Verizon are out for carriers. We could see AT&T or T-Mo carrying the phone, but don't get your hopes up. Oppo as a whole is still pretty unknown in the US.
My N1 has been running on StraightTalk using an AT&T SIM since the middle of November. I haven't had any issues so far with it, and I get unlimited for $45/month.
Remember though that there is no 4G on this phone. It can use up to HSDPA and HSPA+.

HSPA+ is no slouch though... It's fast enough that AT&T and T-Mobile both called it "4G" for over a year.
If you go back to the original definition of 4G, not even North American LTE networks meet those original criteria.
In many places (such as the Binghamton, NY area), AT&T's backhaul (connection between the towers and the outside Internet) is so poor that you won't see any actual bandwidth difference between HSPA+ and LTE because the backhaul is the bottleneck - maybe a little bit of latency improvement but nothing major.
The difference between HSPA+ and LTE is nowhere near as major as the difference between CDMA2000 and LTE is.

Regardless of the speeds, network, backbone speeds, etc... The phone is 3G. I don't want to get people confused over the information about what HSPA+ is or isn't. There are a lot of people that only see 3G or 4G/LTE.

This is true, I work for Verizon but but I used to work for tmob and att and hspa+ is no joke. in some places its faster than aws.

Why not?
You can cover the world with only 5 HSPA bands. You can still fail to support the whole world with 7-9 LTE bands.
LTE is too fragmented for a low-volume manufacturer.

Sprint S20 5G on T-Mobile

I have a Sprint S20 5G flashed with the U1 firmware, and am just trying to make sure that I am taking full advantage of T-Mobile's Network? I thought that the hardware/radio bands was identical across the different U variants? The icon at the top, which I know can mean nothing, says 5G. But in settings the network is showing up as LTE. The LTE Discovery app is showing I'm on band 66, but it also says 5G NR: Connected! It looks like my area should be well covered in 5G, so I was hoping to make sure that I'm taking full advantage, or at least am able to?
Is there any advantage to flashing the T-Mobile firmware?

No point in flashing U instead of U1. As soon as the phone boots with a SIM, it performs another session and gets tuned to the network by the SIM. Your channels and speed will not change. BTW , I talked to a TMO service and support, and right now although 5G, speeds in most cases are at the 100M byte range. Only few lucky ones may see 1Gig if they are out in the open on a mmWave channel . However this technology is aimed at the next years for autonomous driving and other new technologies, not so much for phones, and it will not have reception inside buildings (heck, holding the phone will most likely block that signal without external antenna, and it comes from an engineer here)

no offense but engineers dont always know what theyre talking about.. tnobiles nationwide 5g network penetrates well through buildings and avg speed for it is less than 100mbps.. to get 1gbps needs to be on a different 5g network (i forget what its called) which will not be bationwide or have good penetration since it has low range and needs a lot of towers in a small area so will likely only b used in major cities so seeing as hes getting over 100mbps on tmo 5g is better than average and is definitely 5g

Thanks. I found out from another user, and by looking up in the service mode with a dialer code, that I was actually picking up 5G through T-Mobile band 66 connected somehow with band 2 or 71. So all was well. That speed I got was surely plenty fast for me.

You just said what I claimed. The only 1GIG speeds are om mmWave bands, and like 90% of us seeing 5G icon are on the 600Mhz long wave that is 100M speeds, or the medium wave , again 100M speeds. I get 5G all day long, and never more than 200Mbit once, and 60-100Mbit otherwise. No mmWave where I am .. so we say the same thing.

Except that T-Mobile isn't implementing mmwave 5G, now or in the future. mmWave is only Verizon. And only Verizon's version of the S20 models has the radio and antennas for mmWave. (That's why the Verizon one has less memory - it needs many more antennas to make sure your fingers don't block the signal, and those antennas take up too much room.) So you will NEVER get mmWave 5G on your T-Mobile, Sprint, or unlocked S20. Even if you put a Verizon SIM in it.
T-Mobile's existing 5G is low band, and slow. They're migrating to Sprint's mid-band network which will be a lot faster than the existing network, but nowhere near Verizon's. But you'll be able to actually USE it, unlike Verizon's which will never exist outside of cities and major suburbs, and doesn't work worth ****e indoors unless you have a repeater.
mmWave is going to go down in history with WiMax as a bet on the wrong technology.

Not sure where you heard all of that but it is incorrect. Tmobile is deploying mmWave and both the Tmobile and Sprint S20s will support it.
AT&T also uses mmWave and on the S20s as well.

The + has it as well. Verizon has a special version if the base S20 that supports it. But all the + and ultra versions support it no matter the carrier.

Oh interesting, good to know.
I don't really care if I have it. Our LTE+ is roughly 200ish down and good coverage.
5G at this time is for the most part a marketing tool for manufacturers and service providers but lots of prospective users are buying into the hype. LTE is comparable in speed to low and midband 5G and in some cases even faster. Until mmWave is widely avaliable, which won't be anytime soon, 5G's biggest asset is it's marketing appeal. All hat, no cattle!

Question Can I switch to Verizon with this phone?

It seems most of the 4G and 5G bands are compatible. I'm just not sure about 3G with the CDMA vs GSM. My service through TMobile just hasn't been good enough.

2125 should work fine. 2127 may or may not work. The rest will not work
Verizon's network is mostly 4G or newer nowadays. CDMA will be a factor in coverage but it's minor. I occasionally will pop into the Verizon network with a random device if I know it's compatible with the bands Vzw use. Pop in a sim and give it a whirl.
I'm using Verizon on my 2125. My coverage and service speed is way better in my area than it was with TMobile. Calls texts and data all work fine.
Hi, I'm using Verizon with this phone. No issues at all. My phone usually is on the 5g network, sometimes on 4g. Only thing is that voice over wifi does not work. Besides that service is great.
VoWifi doesn't work. I haven't found a way to enable that on Verizon. Everything else works fine for me. Speeds could be better but that's probably just my area.

CDMA is not a factor in any LTE or 5G phone. Verizon requires a flag CDMA_Less for this phone. Others that are Verizon phones have that set automatically in the back end. This flag has been required for correct functionality for at least 3 years.
I loved VZW and been with them over a decade. I recently switched to T mobile and it was for one reason only. VZW sold many of their towers and TMobile bought them. Tmo used to suck. Service and customer service. But they did one thing. They offered NR..VZW has already admitted that their 5g is a combination of 4G and 5G. UW is available but you will find that to be very limited. 5G is just a marketing tool. The consumers get the short end of the stick and the lawmakers allow the FCC to change the definition of what 5G speeds are. VZW sells the OnePlus 8 5g, will allow the OP9 and OP 9 pro to work. Also while your phone will work on VZW it will not have the correct radio in it to truly take advantage of 5G. This article will explain it

Ok guys. I have a LE2125, and I'm using verizon. It works great. Better than it did on t-mobile (Data speed and coverage-wise. Your area may vary). Only issue is there is no VoWifi or VoLTE. Service area and data speeds are great. 5G works. LTE works. LTE+ works. Calls and texts work.

Every carrier has good and bad spots. Where I live, T-Mobile has been on par with Verizon for years. In other areas Verizon sucks. Some areas T-Mobile can't get signal at all.

Lawmakers and the FCC don't change "definitions" of "5G speeds". Nobody does. 5G isn't determined by speed at all. 5th Generation connectivity. It's how phones connect to the towers, not what speeds they run at. If you're getting 1mb/s on a 5G tower, does that mean you're on 3G? OF COURSE NOT. Just like if you're connecting at 200mb/s on LTE, that doesn't make you "5G".
Also while your phone will work on VZW it will not have the correct radio in it to truly take advantage of 5G.

I really don't think you read the article you linked. The only thing the OP 9 and 9 Pro lacks is wifi calling on Verizon. MAYBE you're trying to say the 9 won't connect to MM-Wave while the Pro can, but it's like that on every carrier. The 9 won't connect to T-Mobile's MM-Wave either. Now, the article DOES mention that the 9Pro won't SAY it's on MMWave, because it's missing the ICON. The Icon.
Insiders tell me that OnePlus could fix this by adding a Verizon "icon pack" to its firmware. I've asked OnePlus for comment and I'll update this when I hear back. The phones also don't work with Verizon's Wi-Fi calling feature. There's just no option to turn it on. Verizon tells me there is no plan to add that, at least for now. I've also asked OnePlus about that.

Yeah, they sold one model and it FLOPPED. Nobody was buying it, so they chose not to have it take up space on their shelves. They still support every model since the 6T on their network.

The C-Band auction literally ended what, 3 months ago? Verizon and T-Mobile don't even plan on rolling it out until late 2022. Why would they sell phones with it NOW? Also, the "rest of the world"? The EU hasn't rolled out MMWave yet, as they just ended the first rounds of spectrum auctions. MOST countries barely have any 5G, if any. And that's fine, because 5G is mainly about capacity, not speed. And they don't need the capacity right now, LTE-A is working fine for them.
Also, you're confusing C-Band with the existing mid-band spectrum that T-Mobile acquired from Sprint, which is used on band 41 and is known as the "faster" 5G (though still slower than MMWave). T-Mobile's low band 5G isn't about speed either, it's about capacity. You're lucky to get over 75mb/s with their low band stuff. Just like Verizon. Go figure. The lower bands have slower speed and reach further, that's just how physics work.

Again, NO carrier has C-Band deployed right now, and won't be deployed in any large scale for at least a year. Why would they make a 9 Pro with it later on when it will be at least TWO models behind? (The 9T and the 10, possibly the 10T as well)

Verizon has been losing customers to T-Mobile for years now. It doesn't have anything to do with 5G, it's about being priced out of the budget market. They want to focus on ARPU vs number of lines, while T-Mobile took the opposite approach, hence them giving out free lines right before every earnings report.

I have the LE2127 I got straight from TMobile. So maybe a no go?
I believe it should work as long as your phone is unlocked, whether it's a tmo or global phone shouldn't matter much except of course for adding some tmo specific bands.

Basically, but not exactly. There's a reason global converted OP9P from tmo must reflash the tmo modem for each OTA.
Since OP already has the 2127, worst case is you give it a shot and see if it works. Maybe it will, may not.

This is known as carrier aggregation, or CA, because use of the available resources is simply optimized to allow for a higher data rate per each cell.
The website 4G/5G Bands & Combos serves to list just such data, which is based on real logs from on-board smartphone modems—since a smartphone or modem maker will never actually tell you their supported combinations for 4G or 5G carrier aggregation as part of your device specs; they simply show you a 4G/5G support category number, and leave it at that.
The new log, when contrasted against the previous one from October, contains a new carrier aggregation combination for two of the 5G bands: n71 and n41. According to AndroidPolice's sleuthing, these are actually a direct match to two of T-Mobile's airwaves, 600 MHz and 2.5 GHZ. T-Mobile has apparently been testing carrier aggregation on these airwaves since 2020, and plans to send it live in 2022.

It just depends where you are at. Those speeds are at my home. I've seen speeds of over 800 Mbps in certain areas where I live, and speeds of about 200 Mbps in others. I've seen others, in different places (somewhere in the east coast) get over 1 Gbps.

I'm lucky if I break 20Mbps. All of us people living in densely populated areas struggle with the speeds being slower than molasses sliding down a tree in the Arctic lol.
Thought I'd just drop in and say I managed to get this speed today with my 6 Pro whilst stopped at the traffic lights in my CBD area (Telstra 5G network in Adelaide, South Australia).
Must have been a really good sweet spot as never seen those speeds before! (My previous record was 700-800Mbps at my workplace with my Oppo Find X2 Pro).

Holy ****!!! I've only had my phone less than a week and I live in NYC but the fastest I've got was about 500Mbps, with an average of 200
I just tested my ip13 on tmo 5g UC 600-700dl 60up
They just upgraded the tower across the street where I live
My pixel 6 pro is with Big Red
given verizon is not that great at my house and tmo just upgraded.. may be time for "Keep and switch" promo over to tmobile.
