I'm so disappointed that many makers lock their devices nowadays, in the past you could just use fastboot and adb to unlock it, now you either need to make account, wait 7 days then download some crappy software and unlock it for free, for some strange reason you need to have your SIM in the device where god knows what happens with it while the program runs or use some shady services to get it unlocked with a price tag that is .... At this rate, the only option is to pay premium and get iPhone as you can't unlock it and you get better value for your money in terms of security updates, for example iPhone 6s which was released on September 9, 2015 is still receiving all the updates and going to receive iOS 14 which is like Android 10 in terms of comparison.
The whole situation is frustrated because there is some development in terms of ROM's and Recovery Images but nothing can be done because the damn bootloader is locked behind some shady paid services that requires someone to remotely connect to your PC and unlock it.... I would return my brand new Nokia back to where I bought it from but unfortunately I can't do it anymore and I'm stuck with it. I think I will bin the bugger and hunt for a new smartphone that can be unlocked without the above shizzles.
Sorry if it sounds like rant but the state of locked bootloaders in 2020 shouldn't even take place, what happened to Android being Open Source ? Android is going down the route of iPhone which it can be replaced with as it's a very good alternative. /off

That doesn't actually matter since unlocking will take place regardless of this setting.
A service bootloader is flashed and then it could be unlocked.

I unlocked bootloader (paid one russian man), did help someone if I upload bootloader image from twrp backup?

I think way early on it was established we can't have it unencrypted once the OS install it's completed, unless something changed or I got it wrong. Lol

You can uncrypt your phone but if you.flash a stock rom, the kernel at first boot will automatically encrypt your memory again. There are 2 different encryption, one by code and one with standard image key. At this moment the twrp will automatically uncrypt the system key but you need to manually write the code (if is setted). The tool will uncrypt both method, the flash of stock rom will re-uncrypt with system key but not with code key

Grazie.
Just got my Pixel 2XL the other day and am excited to root and start modding. I have been monitoring this thread just to see what issues people are running into but it looks like not many people are even doing this surprisingly. I mean that's why I bought this Google phone, so I don't have to deal with locked bootloaders that these carriers put in them to discourage rooting. I know this phone is also locked but it's not for the purpose of keeping people from rooting them. I just think that it's so odd that this thread has very little activity.

The device is very expensive, has dual partitions, has gotten a lot of bad press, and not near as Dev friendly as some others. Having said that, there are about 5 custom roms, root, exposed, substratum, and various launcher and active edge mods. So it's not like we're hurting too bad ??

[HOW-TO] How to unlock your Redmi 5 Plus

What is this How-to for:
In our Telegram-group, I've seen quite some questions on what to do to unlock a Redmi 5 Plus.
There are a few different states a phone can be in when you receive it, such as 'Fake' roms, China stable, China DEV and so on. Below we'll try and make sense of it al and explain what is the best way of getting about unlocking your phone.
Update: With the release of the global Development rom, some people have successfully unlocked their device without having to perform the testpoint method. The rom can be found here:
http://bigota.d.miui.com/8.3.15/miui_HM5PlusGlobal_8.3.15_e69c117bf5_7.1.zip
After installing global development, please start unlocking by beginning at step 1 below, but skipping step 2!
Step 1: (needed for everyone who wants to unlock their phone, regardless):
1: Goto: http://en.miui.com/unlock/ and follow the steps there to apply for unlocking:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This requires creating a MIUI forum account and entering a mobile number on which you will receive your approval. This number does NOT need to be the number you are going to use on your Redmi 5 Plus. As long as you create a MI account and hang on to that, you're good.
Getting the approval might take a while. The best way to check if your approval has been passed is to regularly revisit http://en.miui.com/unlock/ (while logged in with your forum account) until the page changes on opening to one that allows you to download the unlock client app:
This is it for this part for now.
Step 2: Knowing what ROM you are on and taking the steps to get to the right one if needed:
Basically, the following 'states' are possible:
China Stable Rom
Official Global Stable
'Fake' Global, locked bootloader
'Fake' Global, Unlocked bootloader; If you are part of these happy few, go directly to step 4.
For the first 3 options you will need to flash to the China dev rom: Which can be found here: http://bigota.d.miui.com/8.2.1/vince_images_8.2.1_20180201.0000.00_7.1_cn_bd9ee1a88a.tgz
This needs to be done via the so called 'Test point method', and it is the only way to do it (as of now).
Information on how to do this you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVG3Ip6UPGE.
After this, you are ready for the next step.
Step 3: Binding account and unlocking:
Note: If you have problems binding your account on step 1, use PlexVPN, setting the connection to a China location, or use the attached APK vpn service (in.invpn_2017-08-15.apk).
1: After you’ve applied and received unlock permission from MIUI you can use the account to sign into your Mi-Account on your phone.
First though, we need to establish if you need to do additional steps, so hold on to this for now.
2: Enable “Developer options” on your device by tapping few times on MIUI version.
3: Go to “Developer options” and enable “OEM Unlocking”, then go to “Mi Unlock Status” and tap on “Add account and device”.
4: Download and install the latest version of MiFlashUnlock from this page and install it on your pc (unlocking with MiUnlock 1.x version won’t work).
5. Install MiFlashUnlock, open it and press “Agree” button, sign into your Mi-account.
6: Turn off your phone completely and start it in fastboot mode. Press “Power” and “Volume Down” buttons at the same time until fastboot logo appear on the screen.
Connect your phone to PC in fastboot mode and press “Unlock” button.
7: And now this is where it gets a bit silly. You most likely will be confronted with a wait time between 72 and 360 hours. There is currently no way around this and you have to sit it out.
Once the time has passed, you can unlock your phone and are ready to flash TWRP and be a happy camper.
EDIT: There is a way around the 360 hour wait. Check this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...ageos-15-1-t3780298/post76304194#post76304194
Step 4: Flash TWRP
See this topic on how to do this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/-t3727162.

Should the phone used to receive the unlock SMS be the same as the one on the device being unlocked?
I have tried my phone number but I didn't receive an SMS, so I had to use a U.S number and successfully got it.

i know test point flashing chinese dev rom and later adding account with VPN will work....but its my girlfriends phone. she will freak out if i tear it apart.
has anyone found any other soulution for this problem ?
370 hrs...
We must really waiting for ?
Yeah no way around it, the annoying part is that I already had a Xiaomi account that I used for unlocking other phones but apparently now you can't log in with a phone number anymore so the account is lost. See y'all in 2 weeks.
And china stable doesn't allow to unlock, neither?
I thought the problem was only in global roms...

Hi, Thanks for the fine tool!
Unfortunately some apps still label my 6.1 plus phone as (rooted)
Even after I flashed the DRG354H home B stock rom,
Everything went well, but the postoffice app here refused to log me in, saying that my phone is rooted! and its not!
Kindly if there is any fix to wipe the phone clean of any former root traces I'd be most grateful.
or if there is a full stock firmware file download link would be the best.

Can you be polite with your words, please? People are not getting paid to answer questions like yours.
Currently, there are no official unlock methods for ANY Nokia phones. But it still unlockable by unofficial means. You can search Google for that. Try searching for bootloader unlock service from techmesto or hikary. It costs around $5 to $8 depending on the status of your phone. Google is your friend, mate.
I hope you have a good day.

It is visible under Settings -> Additional settings after tapping 7 times on the build number.
Step 1: Install the apk linked below.
https://download.c.realme.com/flash/Unlock_tool/DeepTesting_X50pro_Q.apk
Step 2: Update this app by installing this -
https://forum.xda-developers.com/at...327195/?hash=232650ae3997a68a5743c72cdf121c9b
Step 3: Open the app and apply for deep-testing.
It takes sometime to get it reviewed and approved. My request took about a day to get enrolled in this deeptesting progam.
Step 4: Get the latest Android platform-tools and Google usb_driver for Windows. Extract wherever is comfortable for you.
Step 5: Reboot into the bootloader.
Connect the phone to your PC with the provided cable.
Enter the following in a cmd terminal where the extracted platform-tools are. Shift+Right click in that folder for getting the option to open a PowerShell terminal.
Note the prefix.
.\adb reboot bootloader
Step 5: Install the driver.
Open the device manager and right-click on the "Android" device. Choose "Update driver" option.
Select the manual installation option. Now, select the option at the top called "All devices".
Click the "Have Disk" button and then choose the .inf file in the usb_driver folder.
Choose "Android Bootloader Interface" option.
It will show "Operation completed successfully" message.
Step 6: Unlock time.
.\fastboot flashing unlock
Your device will show a warning.
Now is the time to rethink.
Vol up to proceed.
Now, the device will reset. Disconnect the cable and let it boot.

It should work. Hardware is almost same.
This may work with all Realme models launched with 11
The only difference I found is that the radio (modem) has extra CDMA bands, irrelevant for unlocking.

Not yet. I've tried the DSU loader in developer options (12 beta). Doesn't require fastboot.

And what if deep testing gives out that the "phone model does not support deep testing "(rmx3242)?
I have realme narzo 30 4g and it says "failed to submit", "this model doesnt support deep testing".
I tried to unlock my device with this. (Realme 8 5G, identical twin) I get prompt saying this phone model doesn't support deep testing, what should I do?

Hello guys, my Realme 8 5G face the same problem, and i'd try this instruction. This is my Deep Test result. " oplus Verify fail need to verify signature of another brand oplus Verify pass fastboot verify success fastboot_unlock_verify ok" What should i do next?
My Device had no Data Connection Because it downgrade to India ota_downgrade.zip File anyone can help me fix this problem?

I also downgrade, and the version was probably the same for India. I had to send it to service, wait 2 weeks. They changed motherboard ( I don't know why ) and returned with BETTER FASTER SMOOTHER UI 2.0.
After I messed with ADB and face a boot-loop, to solve the problem I had to update again to laggier and awkward UI 3.0. So now I have to revert to UI 2.0 and don't know how.
I assume a Global rollback package can solve your problem also.

Also If I failed to install rooting process, Is there a way to restore or backup ROM settings so that everything goes to normal as the way they were before.
Need seniors guide how to install by step by step and which things to check before installing MUI rooted ROM like ROM versions etc and compatibility

1st things first, you need to unlock your bootloader before you can root anything. Doing this will delete everything and factory reset device. Don't think, not being rooted, there's anyway to effectively backup app data and device settings.
i'll have a look in a bit, but have search in this forum for how to root miui or root stock rom
ok, so like i mentioned before, you have to unlock your bootloader. My Pad 5 is already unlocked and has been for a long time, i don't currently have any other devices running miui, so i'm only suggesting what to from memory. Please read up before doing anything drastic!!
1. Sign in to your Xiaomi account on the phone if you aren't already.
2. Enable OEM unlock in settings, tap on build MIUI version 7 times to enable developer options. Go to developer options in settings and enable USB debugging and OEM unlocking.
3. Go here and download + install mi unlock tool. Follow instructions on that page for further info.
While you wait for the bootloader to be unlocked (which WILL ERASE the device when you do) - takes up to 7 days for unlock to be granted by Xiaomi - have a read of the root guide thread you have posted your other post in. Read that guide thoroughly and follow it to the letter. Also, here's a Youtube video that i searched for you.
I know it's hard in the begining not to ask a ton of questions but do read AS MUCH AS AS POSSIBLE and use the search function before posting questions...
Good luck

Also if I root my device, is there a way to unroot my device and make it like normal?
xiaomi devices have code names that the general public aren't usually aware of. Pad 5 is called Nabu. Poco F3 is Alioth etc etc.
Yes. you root it by flashing a magisk patched boot img, then unroot by flashing an unrooted boot img (and uninstall root apps/modules etc

got it, One more thing I want to ask, I successfully binded my account with OEM Unlocking and it says " My Mi account is associated with this device now.“ when i was following OEM Unlocking process. and on MUIUNLOCK tool on PC, it says try after 7 days and dont login to MUI Account. But when I restarted my tablet , My account was logged in to MUI Account. Is there any problem or should I check after 7 days
