The aspect ratio has nothing to do with quality, is just a way to crop the pictures.

I've been fiddling around with the gcam for exynos on my s10+ and got this night shot.

Before the photo is taken everything looks excessively grainy, but it seems that the dual LED's fix that right up. Unfortunately, video looks really bad at night.

It has nothing to do with the Dual LED's. Daytime shots in good light do not trigger the LED's so making statements like that only causes confusion. The grainy aspect is for quicker response times on the screen as you don't need high resolution screen quality to shoot high quality pictures. You just have to make sure it's in focus and what you want to shoot.
Videos looks really bad at night because you are using a PHONE CAMERA and LENS. Turn on the LED's with the Torch APP and light the way for a little better night video shooting.
Heck of a lot better than IPHONE right? No flash = no night time shots.
Have you removed the plastic from the camera? I have some friends who.didn't realize it had a plastic.

What's your opinion on the camera?

One of the things HTC wanted to highlight about the One family is the camera.
Tell me - what is your opinion on the camera? Good, bad?
I personally think the 5MP camera is pretty decent, but I wanted a better focus on close up images. Not necessarily a macro mode, but the focus on stuff around 2-3 inches away from the camera is pretty bad.
Also, I think the shutter speed is great. The effects are icing on the cake.
It was the camera that made me get this phone. Limited budget, I was going to get a Samsung galaxy ace, but when I saw the quality of this camera I upped my budget by £5 a month. As for close ups, this was about 3 inches from the camera without me having to go into settings. If you want it to focus on a certain spot, just tap it on the screen.

I'm a little biased, because i own a 15 megapixel Kodak. But compared to my old optimus v, this camera is great.
I also had an optimus v. Still do actually, but compared to that thing, the one V actually takes pictures. The still frames during video is probably my favorite feature.

Yes it does. When you record video, there is a camera button on the interface.
Also, when you review the video through the stock gallery, there is a snapshot button for the video in case you missed it live.

[Q] Can the camera be a fixed with roms/mods?

Just look at the picture I included. Zoomed out looks fine, just a little over sharpened. The minute you zoom in, you can see the oil painting effect. You guys think this can ever be fixed?

I had this on my s5. Could be a software issue
Dumb questions but it appears you sent screen shots of the pictures.. Can you upload the actual files? It could be the screens over sharpening but may not actually be in the image.. Also the stock camera defaults to 10mp but you can up it to 13 to see if it helps with the detail.. Also make sure your camera lense doesn't have a smudge on it.
Mine is the same way, though probably worse. Very disappointed in the camera on this thing. Its all software related, so hopefully someone can find a fix.
I posted a few pictures (linked directly, not uploaded) of something very similar in the picture thread. Seems HDR is a very big source of the issue, and looking at your picture, its certainly an HDR image. I'm on to A Better Camera, and its a little better but not much.
For as far as you zoomed in I think it looks OK. I can't shoot now zoom later with the g3. ?

[Q] Camera Screen Size

I was wondering if there is a way to enlarge the camera screen . It is a square now, unlike any phone Ive had. Would love to have it fullscreen
Thank you

Try going into settings and changing the resolution of the camera to a 16:9 instead of 4:3.

Boy do I feel stupid. Thank You
But I would think if you just wanted to lower the res for space reasons and so they are not that big on the computer, that it wouldn't change the appearance.
Thank you VERY MUCH

NP. But you can also select the other 16:9 options such as 6.0M and 2.4M. This resolution (3264x1836) will still look good, but you will notice a loss of details if you zoom or crop the image much.
I like that they provide multiple resolutions and aspect ratios. Using 6.0M (16:9) will use the full screen while taking pics, but it will use about 3x less storage compared to full 16.0M resolution.
For example, the same pic at 5312x2988 (16M) is about 4.3 MB, compared to 1.5 MB if you use 3264x1836.
And if you want a perfect square picture (without cropping afterward), use the 8.9M (1:1) resolution (2976x2976).

Photo Thread - Post your best shots here

I'll be receding my Asus Zenfone Zoom really really soon, so will be doing my usual camera comparison tests but will use this post to upload some photos from this little gem.
Okay first shot using super resolution mode, handheld -

It's snowing at the moment so that doesn't help in terms of taking lots of photos. More soon though.

Thanks for these shots. Unfortunately it has bad post processing in low light, possibly even day light shots. My G4 has much better quality. I was hoping for this to have a superb camera but to be honest, it doesn't beat the S4 Zoom that I once had (which took superb shots).
