LG V35 ThinQ, screen on time, have to say I am mighty impressed - LG V35 Guides, News, & Discussion

That’s a lot, a lot of, WhatsApp calls which drains battery on any phone these days. Apart from that plenty of WhatsApp texting, a bit of browsing and Reddit app plus some camera tests was all I did. So to get 5hrs and 30mins or so in nearly 30Hrs off the charger is something I could never ever even get close to doing on the Oneplus One running lineage OS 16 or the Note 4 running Stock Samsung 6.0.1 Android. The best those phones could do was 4hrs SoT in 12hrs with strong LTE signals around. When the signals were crap the SoT tanks to maybe 3hrs and 15mins, sometimes even less, this all despite being on newer batteries.
Settings were
Screen Resolution - High (1440p)
AOD - Off:
Wifi and LTE are always on – ~60% of it was on Wifi and 40% of tit on LTE bands 3 and 7
Brightness at no more than 34%, not a fan of the auto brightness implementation on the LG phones
NFC – Off (I don’t use it)
Printing – Off
Data Saver on (Data plans here in this region are from the stone age)
Color mode is warm to reduce blue light
Knock ON – On
Location – Off (I turn it on only when I need it)
I was already impressed but I hate the AT&T bloatware that come default and worst of all the need to constantly input APN settings manually each time I swapped SIMs when crossing the border between Singapore to Malaysia (&Vice versa). I knew about the Google Fi ROM so I loaded that up and I then re-did all my apps and used it like I do normally with all my phones.
Day 2, you can see I managed 4hrs SoT with 47% left, only difference being brightness was 24% most of the time, apologies I forgot about the app usage screenshot.
Day 3, was traveling day for me to go back home to KL from Singapore, I took the phone off the charger at about 8:15AM and went to work, the fairly low usage lines at first shows the time at the office, the steeper dive is all on LTE with WiFi turned off. So major part of the usage was on LTE. And I managed 5hr and 6mins with 44% eft in the battery, brightness was at 12% because its dark in the bus.
Settings were
Screen Resolution - High (1440p)
AOD - Off:
Wifi – On only in the office, LTE was On all the time during the bus and in the office
Brightness at no more than 32% at the office, and was 12% all the time in the bus
NFC – Off
Printing – Off
Data Saver - On
Color mode is warm to reduce blue light
Knock ON – On
Location – On (wife frequently tracks me using WhatsApp’s Real-time GPS tracking feature)
I couldn’t drain it out so put it back on the charger, again I forgot to take the snap of the apps used but it's mostly YouTube Vanced, a lot of WhatsApp and with some Reddit app and Browsing in-between.
Day 5 , traveling day back to work from KL to Singapore
Screen Resolution - High (1440p)
AOD - Off
Wifi – Off
LTE- On
Brightness at 12% all the time in the bus and upto 30% when outside for RnR and out about in the open.
NFC – Off
Printing – Off
Data Saver - On
Color mode is warm to reduce blue light
Knock ON – On
Location – On (wife frequently tracks me using WhatsApp’s Realtime GPS tracking feature)
I reached my room in Singapore and took a snap of the battery stats:
SoT 4hr and 44mins
Day 6
Continuing on from where I left off the night before:
Screen Resolution - High (1440p)
AOD - Off:
Wifi – On
LTE- On
Brightness at 12% all the time in the bus and upto 30% when outside for RnR and out about in the open.
NFC – Off
Printing – Off
Data Saver - On
Color mode is warm to reduce blue light
Knock ON – On
Location – Off
I lost only 2-3% overnight on Wifi (sleep time). Now the brightness is back upto 32%, I have added the progress through out the rest of the day till I reached about 9%
So to end with 6hrs and 30mins of SoT for my kind of use well into the next day is pretty impressive. I was really skeptical of those 7hr - 8hr claims seen in here for the LGV 30+ even though on WiFi but now I buy those claims totally. It really is possible and the key here, as far as I can see, is the brightness of the screen. My eyes are sensitive but I can see well even at these lower regions of the brightness on this phone. I just can’t imagine myself ever using maximum brightness indoors under any conditions, even outside I use it only briefly if some important messages come through. Most of the time I can manage with 34% brightness even under sunny outdoor conditions. I wear glasses so am not having above average eyes by any stretch.
I needed a phone that is truly all-day for my kind of usage, I didn’t think the LG V35+ could cut it but at the price of USD 350 off of Amazon, brand new, it was very hard to pass up. I took the risk and got a brand spanking new unit and I am very very very pleased with it. I guess most phones of 2018 and later might give this sort of battery life because technology has progressed so much since late 2015 but the sound on headphones though its DAC combined with the SDcard slot just makes it an outstanding phone. Imagine what it can do with 4000mAh. LG has done an amazing job with its BSP software to get this kind of optimization for battery life. Even my wife’s newly battery replaced S8+ can’t do this sort of endurance no matter what kind of usage gymnastics she employed to stretch it out.
Even at 30-32% brightness all day long I think this can give 6hrs of SoT easy with some 20 odd % left to spare if I continuously keep using it with decent LTE signals around. The route inside Malaysia after the immigration checkpoint has very spotty cellular coverage for at least 1.5hrs worth of driving distance, even then the drain was very normal like there was no real singnal issue at all. Impressive modem firmware at work there.
All in all I am mighty pleased and I hope to hold on this phone for at least 4years with a fresh battery swap somewhere midway in that time frame. I held on to the Oneplus One since October 2014 until now so that's no problem for me as long as nothing major fails on the phone, my Oneplus One's screen is now getting artifacts on the lower portions of the screen while scrolling through images and certain apps. Some sort of capacitive interference from the now failing capacitive touch buttons.

Battery life comparison between to like phones

hi
i have 2 sony ericsson xperia x8
both with CM 7
dxgingerbread v13 by doixanh
i use one as a house phone and the other goes in my pocket as a second phone as i just changed numbers and my first phone is samsung galaxy s2.
so these two phones came with the new plan for my wifes company both about 2.5 month out of the box with close serial numbers.
both are configured to as listed
performance: ondemand
wifi off
data connection off
i have studied the phones since i got them
so heres some data for you
result in home pocket
min battery life 3 days 1 day
max battery life over 5 days 2 days
i found the difference between the two odd as both were not touched or used but i found the difference to be that when i walk the home button gets pressed and turns the unlock screen on briefly not even enough to register on the graph.
but if it is placed badly in my pocket the battery goes really quickly a big drop off on the graph.
the first time i ran the test on the stay at home phone got 6 days out of it not bad at all the next time it got 2.5 days i was shocked the only thing i had done was sync the calender and contacts between the phone and the computer while on charge.
so why the difference.
well it was adversely affected by being woken up. and i have to say i only looked at the battery one a day in the morning it was not me.
so what was waking it up for long period. it was the notification bar.
first of all it was the calender reminders. after disabling all was tranquil again.
then there was one missed call that i didn't see for two day this had the the phone waking up all the time and by checking the time of call to the graph you can easily see the relation.
so i tried it again charged the called it and left it without interaction 2 day flat battery i could not turn it back on. then charged it and left without being called 5 day interesting. note there is that little light that flashes on the front.
next thing was i got a sms from the network same thing kills the battery.
so then i started checking it as often as possible and clearing any notifications.
if you clear it straight away battery life stays the max if you leave ny notification a couple of hours the battery is discharging at an alarming rate.
so what really kills the battery of the X8.
i concluded 2 things the home button being pressed in the pocket and notifications that are left uncleared.
i have to say this also affects my samsung galaxy s2 for thehome button and the notifications if sync is turned of and the 3g is left on i can get 2 days with little use of the internet for emails ect. let it do as it likes and not cancel the notification can be 13 to flat.
hope this helps someone else.
thanks andrew
I think it's not because the notification but the LED itself uses a lot energy (phone must be in awaken mode to flash the LED light). So, I think if you disable the LED, it will be much more better.
Led can be a fuel burner, especially this one we have on our phone, with the option of colour change. The basic principle of changing the color is to change the voltage that goes in to the LED. And even the display, when it is lit up, it consumes lot's of energy, especially if you are on Max brightness.
I did the same test with the led turn off with the only notification in the status bar and the battery is affected in the same way. could some else try this to confirm the results.
it is the way the operating system handles the messages. here are pictures of best 7 days and worst cases.

but the home button is a real battery drain when the phone is in my pocket it is always turning the screen on when i walk. ive got to say the button on the iphone is a lot better designed.

well i think there is a lot o variables just one single little thing like que led indicator can drain your battery, even the times of charge of the baterry o the temp of the batery it's always aproximately
but for mi if th baterry can reach 2 and half day i'ms satisfied XD
So what,my battery can last for years,if I'm not using the phone...

My battery takes about Min 18h and max 30h with Stock Rom.
With MiniCM6 and FroyoBread it's more or less the same.
With GingerDX and KuyaDROID i have about 16h hours min and 24h max.
If i don't touch my phone the stock rom gives me years of battery, even with any LED notification it stands for some days.
well obviously if you don't touch your phne the battery last a lot...
but now i have a diferent question with the stock to fully charge (0% to 100%) it takes me about 2 hours but with all the roms it charges in 45~55 mins and the battery life lasts the same time about 2~3 days its normal ?

Nonesense.. The x8 notification leds waste almost no power at all.. 2 AA batteries would last for weeks if you connected them to the leds and months if they were blinking like they do on the x8.
The ilumination of the lcd in the other hand drains the batt very fast

I have charger aside of my bed and plugging phone every night to NOT be caught somewhere with dead battery...
I posted a thread for the solution! And everyone ignored it !
install set cpu, then enable sleep profile. battery drain problem solved!
only works when your phone is screen off. i got almost 1-2% battery drain for 8 hour. u can try it.
EDIT : CPUmaster actually.
I installed Set CPU but it doesn't show a sleep profile. Im running the 2.0.2 version of it. Is there another profile that works for saving battery energy?

Spontaneously improving battery?

Is it just me, or is the battery spontaneously getting better? I don't use any juice defender or battery-saving apps, no setcpu, I have 4g data (not in an lte area), wifi, push email, a live wallpaper, and gps enabled (though it only comes on only when maps uses it, of course) at all times with normal automatic brightness on the screen, and I'm on stock rom, and I swear the battery lasts longer and longer all by itself. I used to get maybe 14-18 hours of moderate use, but now I get a little over 24 hours. Super heavy use, (and I mean streaming, screwing with framework-res.apk, backups, installs, etc) I get at least 12 hours, and if I'm using it lightly (still texting 10/20 times a day, push email, web browsing maybe half an hour a day, maybe a couple 5/10 minute calls), I get a day and a half, sometimes almost two days, like below:

I don't think it's the battery, since I have two and they behave very similarly, so I'm not really sure what it is. Even when I visited some friends in a lte area, with lte active, moderate use, I was still getting around 16 hours. Anyone else experiencing this sort of... healing battery?
Pretty obvious your phone is draining heavily when in a lower signal area. Also, you have a TON of wakelocks. Not sure what you're running on your phone but there's something or many things keeping your phone awake despite your screen barely being used. I would expect my phone to last 3 days with that kind of usage...
Well, like I said in my other posts, the phone seems to improve itself in its battery usage. The first 2-3 weeks, I could barely hold charge for a whole day. Now, almost 2 months later, I can leave the phone uncharged from morning till nite with average use and still manage 5-10% left charge.
Haha, well, you're probably not going to get three days out of a nitro. Sorry! =)

My experience is the same, the battery efficiency improved over the 1st month + of use.
My understanding is that rechargeable batteries have a "break-in" period, where it takes maybe a dozen or so cycles of (dis)charging to reach peak performance.
It seems with our batteries it just took a bit longer to reach its' peak.

I agree. That is phenomenal battery life iamkonrad compared to what I've been experiencing..
Oh, when are you going to share those status bar goodies with the rest of us. ;]
If I'm not mistaken android collects battery stats, that uses to more accurately detect battery life. Perhaps that's the case here? If you clear batter stats with CWM, you should see different results.
could you also put screenshot of display usage. display takes a lot of power
idea
What would really be nice is if somone would make a thin case with a slim solar panel in the back of the case, you could lay it face down and have it charge from your office lights or at least supplement the battery... lol
How about make the screen itself a solar panel?
Well looks like it's already been thought about: engadget.com/2008/05/26/apple-files-patent-for-solar-cells-on-portable-devices/
Solar panels of that size would provide a minimal amount of juice to the device. It wouldnt really be worth it until photovoltaic efficiency improves..

Perhaps 2.5x5 solar panels are not able produce 1.1A juice.

Screen Time On Numbers

I'm starting to see that looking at battery life, we shouldn't be looking at any number but screen time on.
For me, no matter how long I use my phone. Let that be intense browsing to listening to music, my battery will not die until it reaches near the 2 hour screen on time.
I am trying to figure out if that is low compared to other users. If people can share that would be great.
thanks.
Hour and fourty five to two hours fifteen seem to be about the norm. Some users are getting ~3 hours of screen time with a lot of patience, kernel testing, fine tuning & tweaking as well as careful useage. I think we'll all get there sooner or later. In my opinion kernels can/will get MUCH better for this device. Only time can tell, but I'm not trying to put a show on. If I need my phone, I'm going to use it...whole point in having it.
Most GSM users get around 3 hours screen on time I believe.. I get three on a bad day

Actually both
1.standby
2.and actual phone usage
Standby can be sorted out via removing stupid apps or configs causing large amounts of wakelocks.
Actual screen on time AFAIK can only be done via lowering brightness, or maybe try reducing screen voltage(however, current may increase rendering this mute).
Having a lower dpi screen means less screen touch/input for scrolling so that also helps, it also looks great due to the high res screen (large ppi count).
obviously if you are doing battery intensive stuff like playing games or gps. Not much you can do there.
This is what I'm getting on average , GPS and bt is off everything else on. GSM 4.0.2

That's about my usage, I got two and a half hours yesterday. But I've since changed to Nitroz's Black Exodus so I hope to get more toward the 3-3.5 hour time.
I get between 2 and 2.5 hours with heavy usage on stock battery, GSM version, data on (2G screen off), sync on, AOKP M3 + franco kernel w/ turtle governor, 350/1000 UV. I'm trying gazelle with 700/1350 and I ordered the extended battery off eBay.
If you don't get at least 2 hours screen on with heavy usage (games, internet, etc.), research what is draining the battery.
On an average day I get over 4 hours screen time. A good day sees me hit 5 hours and a long time without charge can reduce this to around 3.5 hours.
I use the official extended GSM battery. Currently running AOKP 21 with Franco Kernel 14.4 undervolted by around -50mV. Auto-Brightness.
Here is an example of my last cycle.
Regards.
Stock everything GSM... Intermittent use of Skype. Wifi always on. Screen at 50%. Google calendar and mail sync.
4.0.1 just under 2 hours.
4.0.2 just over 2 hours and 2.5 hours max.
Average 16 hours without charge
I think it is just as important to post screen brightness as well as time on.
I've not yet tested a lower screen setting and I would be sacrificing its sexiness.
At least 4 hours screen time with:
Version: GSM GNex
ROM: AOKP Milestone 3 (power saver mode off)
Kernel: Lean Kernel
Battery: 2000 mAh
Frequency: 350/1350 InteractiveX
UV: -70 across all
3G/HSPA/LTE: 3G/HSPA and my network doesn't support 2G
What's off: BT, WiFi unless I'm home, Sync for Calender Contacts Browser and Photos.
Daily, I use: Netflix/Poweramp/Spotify/Reddit on my daily commute. Phone/Poweramp/Spotify/Reddit/Browser+ in between commute.
The WiFi is when I got home, and I didn't charge overnight, which explains the long straight line. My brightness is almost always at 40%, sometimes I go 100% if I get home and know I can waste the charge, sometimes it's at 0-10% if in very low light.

Is this battery usage normal?

In 3 hours, mostly standing by, it drops to 87%
I have no idea why "Android System" gets 23%

well, if you're not using the phone, with apps or whatever.. then something else has to take the place of the 'most used' application..
I hope this isn't the "omg android system is using all my battery" again that I seen all over the gs2 forums when it came out
attached is a screenshot of my battery usage, I been streaming music all day at work.. mostly wifi, screen on a generous amount of time.. browsing xda, internet.. even played around with autodesk sketchbook..
Just got the phone today, it's been ridiculous. I've recharged my phone from 20% to 95% twice today. Granted, I've been using it non-stop
Now at 65%. Just terrible!
Android System 38%
Screen 20% (time on only 2h 5m)
Android OS 11%
Facebook 8%
Cell standby 5%
I had a lot of sync crap turned on that wasn't on my note 3 (like auto sync photos to google cloud), as well as some other settings that I just turned off like AT&T Address Book, and several google sync services I have no need for. Hoping that fixes it, I'll know tomorrow!

A background process is eating your battery. I have gotten over a full days use with 3 hours or more of screen time and still at 35%, that or you got a bad battery. This phones battery life is incredible
Since I just got my phone this morning, I will have to report my batter usage later.
However, the phone charges SUPER FAST!
I'll tell you when it doesn't charge fast, I plugged it into my S3 charger last night at 11% and it still wasn't at 100% when I woke up about 9 hours later. Yesterday I got 3 1/2 hours of screen time after starting at 70% when I actually got the phone around 5 pm. The phone was under HEAVY use (downloading updates on LTE, customizing, etc.) I'll be interested to see how it does today under mostly normal conditions.

Glad to hear you feel that way! Thank you for the glimmer of hope! I have a feeling you are very right, and that it could have also had a lot to do with the huge amount of downloading I was doing yesterday. Today should be a much more normal day of use. I'll check back in a bit.
My battery went from fully charged to 94% in a matter of minutes just using the Internet. I decreased the screen brightness and removed the sync from some apps. If I don't see an improvement before my 14 days is up this is going back.
I also realized power saving mode was not enabled. After enabling that and disabling all unnecessary sync services, I'm stoked.
Usage seems to be great now, too.
81% battery left so far today
1h30min screen on time
3h23min total
Screen 33%
Android Sys 21%
Android OS 13%
Stellar!

You shouldn't have to use power save to get good battery performance. You definitely have a bad battery
Really? It seems pretty good to me now.
Is there a wake lock detector you would be able to recommend? Looks like it needs root?
I let my battery completely drain where it cut off at 1% and let the battery charge fully. Powered it back up and made sure nothing was syncing that I didn't need and now the battery seems to be performing better then before.
My battery usage today
Was on web and Facebook most of the time, downloaded some new apps, and uploaded a video to vimeo
Battery is quite short of impressive, and my N3 charges much much faster.

Either you have fast charging turned off or something is wrong with your charger/battery. turned off my phone charged 0-100% in 79 mins.
Yeah, his phone is broken or misconfigured if it charges slower than a Note 3. I've owned both, and the note 4 charges WAY faster.

I agree it is very noticeably faster. N3 was decent already with the provided charger, but N4 charge blazes.
Kinda want to get that Qualcomm fast charge 2.0 car charger so I can charge from 12v sources. The standard usb 5v 500mA regulated charge is pitiful
I have to constantly kill Index Service. It's loading CPU up to 100%. There's a bug since at least Note II. If you have large PDF files or many files of any kind, it will never finish indexing. Some reports link it to 64GB cards, but mine does it even without the card.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the LG G5 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I have the H860N (dual sim) on build v10c. Take note I am only using SIM1 as the second slot is used by my 64GB microSD (it's a hybrid slot).
1st test
Usage:
WiFi only
2G Mobile network only
A lot of YouTube watching, some photo shooting, social networking in Facebook/Twitter/Instagram, some casual gaming (One More Dash, Stacks, Piano Tiles 2, etc.) and a lot of browsing as well.

2nd test
Usage:
WiFi and Data (4G) - 50/50
A lot of social networking during data usage. A bit of listening to music, photo shooting, web browsing and YouTube streaming during WiFi usage. Some casual games as well.
Power saver triggered on 15%
My rating: 4/5 - Need bigger battery module
Can you go into detail?
1 week with g5 ordered from Clove...unlocked, stock rooted, with Xposedv83
Very little modification, using greenify and amplify
Been on 4g almost the entire day
Don't really know how you guys can get that kind of a screen on times..??

There is LG's official bootloader unlock program for the unbranded EU H850.once u do that(only for h850) there is TWRP built for it too
This was originally posted by me in the battery life thread:
Bit over a week with the phone.
H850 stock rooted v10c. Xposed v83
Used greenify and amplify;disabled and removed some stock apps, AOD and daydream off.
Let phone top up for 1hr after reaching 100%full charge
Best battery life I've had on a phone with no kernel manipulation yet...
I reached 7hrs SOT with like 5hrs YouTube and 20hrs on battery...but this was the 2nd day and I thought it was a fluke.this last cycle was post worthy these pictures were taken evening of 5/4 after almost 36hrs on battery. I've gamed, browsed, used camera, streamed HD video and been on mobile data for most of it...that's balanced but heavy use.
My only gripe is that Wi-Fi does seem to drain me more than mobile data(no tests yet to back that up) still coming from g3 this is incredible!
Who cares if the s7 gets better battery life this has a smaller battery that does better than other's in the g-series, and it's replaceable(unlike comparable devices) giving the device more longevity.
This battery life reminds me of my g2.

what apps did you disable/remove i struggle to get 3 hours screen on time and this phone is starting to really annoy me thanks in advance
Well, compared to the Galaxy S7 i own, the SOT honestly sucks. I barely get more then 3,5 hours with Medium usage. Removed most of the bloadware, disabled background data usage on most Apps and still i can't see alot improvement.
The most I ever got was 6 hours and 30 mins with 19 percent left. No Wi-Fi with LTE on, Bluetooth off and the screen no more than 35%brightness . I used to have the note 4 att version and only got 4.5 with every single bloat app disable. I have cm brower ,cm launcher no facebook just messanger and Google app running. I'm sure you guys won't believe it but I really get amazing battery life with this phone. I'm at 41 % with 3 hours and 30 mins and 11 hours 20 mins since I lasted plug it. I have the t mobile version and here are the apps I have disable.
Here are some screenshots
I really can't complaint with a mix of Wifi and LTE. It's not as insane as my S7 exynos but it last me through the day and I have the spare battery. I have not charged my phone in a couple of days now. Also standby time is the best I have ever seen on a smartphone.
Sent from my LG-H860 using Tapatalk
WTH, the max SOT i manage to get is like 2hrs!
Currently battery at 32% after taking off charge 11 hrs ago.. SOT is 1hr 11m
Android OS is showing as using 19% battery.
I think it's time for a factory reset...
I think that will be my next purchase
3 hrs.

I get barely 3hrs of sot too with always on display.
Sorry wrong thread, post removed.
Some say that its 6 hours, some say its 3. Thats a huge gap and i dont know who to believe, but 3 hours seems more legit considering that battery size.
Yeah i don't know how they're getting 5-6HRs SOT that's just crazy! Considering the Battery Capacity only 2800mah
