Root LG G8 THINQ? - LG G8 Questions & Answers

1. Is there a method to root g8 thinq???
As far as im tracking right now there is no TWRP recovery image of the LG G8 ThinQ. I read This Post, and This Post, but didn't test it yet. If anyone rooted it, please let me know.
I have AT&T model. It has the option to enable OEM unlock. The phone is network locked to AT&T.
2. Also, are there any firmware available (e.g., clean one without bloatware)?
I have found This One but skeptical to actually try it out.

Despite the fact that Enable OEM Unlock is an option in Developer Options, when I try to boot into the bootloader, it is unsuccessful. Apparently LG has blocked access to the bootloader on this, as well as other phones.
For the record, I'm on AT&T as well.

Thats kinda lame. I thought that LG wont have same practice with keeping their phones locked as Samsung... Anyway, THIS POST shows supported devices to get to bootloader for LG. Looks like wont have any root any time soon.
What about that firmware without bloatware. Looks like it doesnt require the bootloader?

Can I unlock my Bootloader? G4 H815 O2 branded UK

Hey everyone, this is my first LG device, and definitely not my last. I love this phone but I think its time to root now.
I understand LG have an official bootloader unlock for the H815 model, but mine is also carrier branded to O2, I read somewhere that its only the factory unlocked models that support this method?
Cheers

You can always just go to the LG site and try to get the files you need and see. If you attempt to put in info for a G4 that their bootload unlock does not support it will just give you a popup error and will not allow you to download anything.

Issues unlocking LG G4 H815

All,
I'm having issues unlocking my H815 LG G4. I enter the proper IMEI and device information into the location on LG's developer website to unlock it but then I get an error which I have attached.
This has been discussed many times before.
You need a region specific H815 in order to unlock your bootloader. A specific EU variant is the only one that LG supports unlocking right now. My Taiwanese specific G4 is not supported. If you'd like, you can msg LG and pile on the requests to unlock all H815 variants, but I believe they said they wouldn't.
Good luck!

Any Ideas on how to root without bootloader unlocked?
Im having the same issue the only difference is that my LG G4 h815 is the EU open market variant which is the one that can only unlock bootloader im getting the message saying everything is correct but cannot unlock bootloader, i contacted lg support dev, the answer from them is that i cannot unlock my G4, this is bull**** i pay i want full control of my phone. hope someone can come up with a way to root this device without unlocking the bootloader just like with the G3 model.
Returned mine and bought another straight from a site in the UK. Went without a hitch.

is the LG G710pm impossible to root?

Is this phone impossible to root or is there just a lack of interest in figuring out a way to unlock the bootloader? I love this phone but really miss the freedom I had on previous devices to install certain apps and run different roms. I've never had a device that has been out this long without a root available.
I guess what I'm asking is if I should consider going to a different device if there isn't a way to unlock the bootloader in sight or stick it out because it'll happen in the near future.

So far, no way to root it yet, I am stuck on the Sprint G7 myself and currently fighting with Sprint to allow me to swap to another device. I know it wont work but at least I am voicing my dissatisfaction of this device with the lack of timely updates (still on November security). If I had known now when I went to Sprint back then, I would have never chosen the LG G7. The phone itself is decent, hardware is good but lack of root, lack of bootloader unlock, and lack of timely updates make the device unusable in my opinion.
I personally am hoping I or someone else can find an exploit for ROOT and eventually bootloader but so far, not much traction has been made in that department.
I have a g710pm, running Android 8.0.0
I see in developer options there is a selection that says, "Enable OEM Unlock" wouldn't that unlock the bootloader?

Nope it will not limited fast boot won't let you run the command its basically useless
You can take a look at my post, there are all the models in my country to unlock BL and ROOT, but only in the hands of a few people, they do not intend to share this, and through this to get benefits, they provide remote unlocking and ROOT services , but need to pay, which is expensive for me, I don't know English, sorry, the reply is translated by Google...
Hey everyone! As I had said earlier, the rumors are true, most G7 variants can be bootloader unlocked. I searched many Chinese websites that had already shown rooted G7 phones but showed no clear methods besides "remote unlock services". Now the method is known! The engineering bootloader from a very unique AT&T V35 V35AWM model (abl_a and abl_b) is flashed via an Octoplus box on the G7 when in QDLoader 9008 mode. This guy from Ukraine motogvasyag posted his methods on 4pda.ru and are now on XDA here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/how-to/to-unlock-bootloader-root-models-t3928505
Please check out the thread, and do donate if you can. He is doing these Octoplus flashes for free.
**This method won't work on T-Mobile model (G710TM and others). I'll still be on the lookout for any T-Mobile methods.**

LG G8 firmware flash

I just purchased a Verizon LG G8 that is unlocked and want to use it on Metro. I haven't gotten the phone yet but I would like to (if it's possible) flash a unbranded firmware. I'm confused about whether I can use LGUP or LG flash tool to do this. Can someone please tell me if this can be done and if so what is the best firmware to flash to have it unbranded with minimal bloat?
I miss the good old days on XDA where people actually came on XDA and there was always someone able to help out. I feel like that doesn't exist anymore. Too many phones and too many different carriers.
I don't think there's a patched LGUP to do this for LG G8 yet.

Holy shiit, someone actually answered my question! That is insane! Thanks for the info man!
Is there a y method that currently works to flash firmware on the LG g8? I would like to flash the stock unlocked carrier unbranded firmware.
There is no way to flash through LGUP or any other tools currently but you can unlock boot-loader root and install firmware package through twrp but doesn't work for T-Mobile or Metro

There is a thread for it and same thing at the g7 thread. Just use octoplus jtag pro to flash the v35 engineering boot-loader to device and from there you can unlock boot-loader and do all the stuff. If you dont have octoplus jtag pro there is a guy who will do it for you he charges i dont know how much though.

Can you boot the G8 into Recovery?

I know you can't boot the G8 into the Bootloader, but is it possible to get into the stock Recovery Menu? If so, can someone please tell me how, or point me to a link with the correct information?
When I try the Power/Volume Down method (temporarily releasing the power button at the logo) all I get is a screen that gives you an option to do a Factory Reset - nothing more. When I tried Power/Volume Up instead, it just booted back into the "normal" mode.
On my Samsung S8, you get to recovery by booting into the download mode. After several seconds when no input is detected, the phone just goes to Recovery. I read somewhere that LG works the same way, but on the G8 you cannot get to the bootloader.
I have an unlocked LG G8 I purchased from Amazon on Prime Day. Model LM-G820QM. Works well with the Verizon simm card from my S8+.
TIA
Rob
I am playing around with a G8S (LMG810EAW), unlocked the bootloader via the LG dev website and while I can get into bootloader via adb there is no way into stock recovery. And this is via the button method or adb (Adb reboot recovery gives me a picture of a dead Android and the text "no command", my device is running Android 10.)
What are Robin and I missing here, WTF would LG lock us out of stock recovery? and this is double annoying because there dosen't seem to be TWRP image any more. I say any more, because the internet seem to think at one point there was....
Will this help lg g8 and lg v50 (sprint) devices being able to get root?
