To all K4 Note rom developers. (To bring all of them together for a final ROM) - Lenovo Vibe K4 Note Guides, News, & Discussion

This thread is aimed to bring all the developers of this device together for a final ROM, I hope you guys understand.
I would like to start the thread by thanking all the K4 Note devs who have kept this device living in 2019 by creating new roms and keeping the device upto date.
There are quite a number of people working on this device separately ( not always ).
In the last month I have seen quite a few PIE roms for this device by different devs. Those ROMS are abandoned by now.
I believe (not everyone might agree with me) this device is too old, why don't you guys all come together to give this device last and best ROM.
I guess Resurrection Remix (PIE) might be a great ROM to give this device as a last tribute.

Any one interested ?

hi....so here is the answer...
Yes,its possible and therefore some difficulties..the main problem is Nokia hasnot released the sources of the device or atleast the kernel source.so,why we need those sources...good question.because these contain all the things related to the mobile OS or simply rom.using the sources of nokia x we can create other roms...but good thing is we dont need all the rom sources, all we need is the kernel source and the device tree from the Nokia x sources.the device tree is the important thing that helps for building the whole rom...it works like a ATM card...we just need to insert it and press the code the machine does the work and gives the money.this migth look difficult but lets hear the good news....we have kernel source thanks to Null kernel dev.we can use those sources for the kernel and the important thing the device tree...we also have that, thanks to AOSP/vanilla rom from dev.but there is only one problem here and that is,the device tree is for jellybean and we are talking about lollipop...I will give you a example, now this time its like drawing the money from bank not from ATM.we have fill the form and stay in line and ultimately we will get money.the result(money) is same but the process gets a little delicated or problematic.lets get this clear...all we have to do is,to hack the device tree(from vanilla or AOSP) to build for lollipop thags it and after a little effort we will get the lollipop...hope this helps you....I think this is the way...if am wrong I am sorry....I am a nOOb

State of AOSP -based ROMs

Hi,
I'd like to know if we might get an AOSP based ROM like Resurrection Remix or Lineage OS someday. Anyone working on something?
I really hate TouchWiz my phone seems clunky with it.
Thanks in advance
PS: not asking for an ETA btw just if we might get something within say a year
Edit: talking about A5 BTW
i think that the better thing is to contact Lineage for ananswer ....
without Lineage ( same with cyanogenmod before) there are not customs roms because these teams use Lineage work .
The another way for customs devs is to use AOSP google sources and phone three sources (not builded for thos phone at this time ===> it's loooooong and hard to build this source itself it need knowledges and generaly all teams and others devs use these ones already built by lineage with manufacturers like samsung sources)

[Need testers] Development of TWRP & LineageOS 14.1

Hello guys
I am a little android developer who has succeeded to build LinegeOS 14.1 for Xperia E3 device. As I have seen here, this device never had good developers, ROMs or recoveries; but I want to change that.
I have been starting to work on this device some time ago and I think it will not be too complicated to build a decent Nougat ROM for this device and a good recovery (such as TWRP). Since I do not own this device, I need your help to test everything that I can build from git sources.
I have created a group for this on Telegram:
MOD EDIT: Link Removed
You are free to join, but I prefer that people who joins wants to be a tester. And remember, the more testers there are, the better the development will go.

Hello, nice to see something like this. in which phase is project? REGARDS!!!
Also curious if this project is still alive.
I want to test
Hi @rmnhg,
i got an old T3 from my girlfriend so i can do anything i want with it.
How far is your common efforts here https://github.com/infus38/android_device_sony_seagull ?
I see other Yukon devices have stable LOS 14.1.
Can I check out and compile this repo?
Best Regards

Kernel development

Is there anything that would be interested in a custom kernel or maybe custom roms for this device? I can pick one up pretty cheap on eBay, just wondering what the landscape if the community is here.
From what I could see on GitHub, some developers tried to use the kernel sources, but it seems that OnePlus forgot to release some parts of it. So for now no one has created any roms or kernels, there is just an unofficial TWRP.
I'm quite good with recreating the kernel sources, I have done so for the N10, N200 5G, and a few other devices. See here. The missing parts are mostly Qualcomm specific code they keep in CAF repositories. Until my device touches down in my mailbox I'll need some testers. I'll have the kernel source completed well before then.
Sorry but personally I don't think I can help testing, since it's my main device I'd rather avoid having to erase my data every time.
That's understandable. You wouldn't happen to have a boot.img I can start with? The stock firmware doesn't have the files broken up individually.

Question How To Get started with Custom Rom Development/Contribution as a Junior Java/Kotlin developer?

As the thread question states I am a junior Java/Kotlin developer and would like to contribute to custom rom projects.
I have been mainly using Lineage OS on my old devices for a past few years and I am genuinely thankful for this community and would like to give back.
I have no idea where to get started and the only threads I found were really old from 2013 and hence I am posting it here. I have only gone as far as compiling AOSP from source and managing to flash it to my device. ( Any guidance is welcome ).
I have 2 additional queries :-
1) Why most custom rom releases are based on AOSP or Lineage as source rather than working backwards from the manufacture's provided rom? In that way the device can retain most of this functionality.
2) I have observed QUALCOMM powered devices are much more appreciated in this community compared to MediaTek, Why is that so? Recent MediaTek Chips have been quite powerful yet support from the community isn't there yet ..... what are MediaTek chipsets lacking ?
Mediatek doesn't release their source code so it's very difficult to develop custom ROMs.
Correct me if I'm wrong
How does your self-built AOSP perform? Everything working correctly?
I think the first question is, because the manufacturer's ROMs are proprietary and closed source, so it's not impossible, but difficult I think. Dunno how Xiaomi.eu does it.
Second question is, because Qualcomm releases source code to CAF - Code Aurora Forum. Custom ROM/Kernel Makers pull a few bits & pieces from CAF into their AOSP ROM, for that added spice.
I think MediaTek does too, but only for few devices?
