Agreed, I got stung and had to spend another 30 mins to unlock again.
@Judyz add something around checking the following options with details:
clean all (pick this option to retain unlocked device)
save user data
clean all and lock (this is default option, be WARNED it will lock your device if unlocked)

Xiaomi official miflash tools has all the drivers required to connect your phone to your pc...
First step - Disable driver signature enforcement
Second step - Download and install ADB v1.3 (this will help you to get device driver)
And if you want to unlock bootloader just download the latest mi unlock tool , unzip it and put it in "C drive"
These steps worked for me.
For more information check out this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...mi-redmi-note-5-whyred-unlock-t3778049/page22
You may try MIPCSuite from mi site. It will have all required drivers for connecting any MI device to pc.

Can't unlock bootloader. Device no longer detected the moment I open Mi Unlock Tool.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread.
Hello guys, I have a Redmi Note 5 (Global Version) with Snapdragon 636, and this phone is really amazing. I'd like however to unlock its booloader so I can install Pixel Experience on it, as I'd like to use other roms than MIUI. The issue is, well, I can't.
Something really strange happens: if I connect my phone via USB 2.0 to my computer, it is recognized as usual. It appears in Device Manager, is recognized by ADB, no problem. Then I reboot in fastboot mode and the device is still there. However, the EXACT moment I open Mi Unlock Tool, without clicking anything (Agree or logging in to my mi account) the phone is instantly disconnected and the "Press any key to shutdown" message appears on the top-left of my phone's screen.
Stuff I've tried:
- made sure OEM unlocking and USB debugging are on
- installed Mi Unlock tool in C:
- installed the ADB drivers in C:/Program Files
- disabled integrity checks from CMD
- installed and checked the MiUSBDriver umpteen times
- used 4 different versions of Mi Unlock Tool (1.0, 2.2, 2.3, and 3.3 - 1.0 halts at 50%, the other 3 won't detect my phone at all)
- made sure the device is bound to my Mi Account
I've tried using Hexerus' guide here (post #18) and everything seems to work fine, until step 6 when my phone instantly disconnects when opening Mi Unlock Tool.
Do you guys have any ideas? Thanks.

Used USB 2.0, didn't work
Happened with me before, and I looked Google and found some solutions like installing the drivers again and using old miunlock tool and using different USB Socket however, none of theme worked,
Next day I opened the laptop to try again and suddenly it worked!
I didn't know what exactly fixed it
After the 720 hours period, I have spent literally weeks of trying to unlock my device's bootloader and what I would add is to switch between computers. I'm running Windows 10 on my room computer and all I had with MiUnlock were errors such as device disconnecting once in fastboot, "Couldn't unlock" messages, chinese characters... Until I decided to use my 2005 Windows 7 desktop and wow !, device unlocked at first try ! No need any other trick
just uninstall Previous drivers or use Windows 7 PC,with latest drivers of ADB ,i also faced same problem:angel:

Maybe something with Windows?
I wondered if the laptop could be indeed the problem... I do have another laptop (for now), should I try using it tomorrow?

Installing Graphene OS on pixel 3 XL Please help....!

Hi!
Because I wanted more privacy and security online I decided to buy a second hand Pixel 3 XL and want to install graphene OS. I've been trying for days now to make it work but I just cant get it to work and it's very frustrating:crying: so can someone please help me out??
I've been trying to install it on a windows pc and on a linux pc.
I'm not new to computers but I'm new to installing custom roms and new to linux.
This is what i'm following for installing it in windows:
Flashing GrapheneOS in Windows 10
Install or update the Android SDK Platform Tools:
Download and unpack the Standalone Android SDK Platform-Tools package: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
Add a PATH Environment Variable to the unpacked folder (Windows 10: Control Panel > Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables)
Make sure that there are no other versions of Android SDK Platform Tools in your computer. Old versions will result to failures in image flashing.
Install or update the Google USB Device Driver:
Download the Google USB Device driver: https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb
Open Windows OS Device Manager and find the new device that shows up when you plug in your phone
Update device driver (Windows 10: Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus devices > [Device Name] > Update driver) using the Google USB Device driver
Prepare the system image:
Download the factory system image that is appropriate for the device:
Important: Always use factory system images for installations. OTA system images are intended only for updates: https://grapheneos.org/releases
If possible, verify the system image integrity
Verify checksum
Check signature
Flash the system image into the device:
Notes:
First make sure that the stock system image is updated to the latest release to avoid any problems.
There is no need to turn on USB Debugging in Developer Options to flash a system image (even when sideloading with ADB in Recovery Mode.)
Enable OEM unlocking in Developer Options (Important: This requires internet access on devices with Google Play Services as part of Factory Reset Protection (FRP) for anti-theft protection.)
Unlock the bootloader:
Put the device in Fastboot Mode (Turn off the device then press and hold the Power and Volume Down Buttons at the same time until you see the Fastboot Mode Screen)
Connect to the computer and verify the connection: "fastboot devices"
Unlock the bootloader: "fastboot flashing unlock" (use the Volume then the Power buttons to confirm)
The device performs a factory reset then boots back to Fastboot Mode
Install the system image:
Open a Command window, go to the unpacked system image folder and run the flash-all.bat script
During the update, the device will reboot to fastbootd. Do not do anything and let the update continue
After it is done, choose option 'Reboot to bootloader' from the fastbootd menu to go back to Fastboot Mode
Re-lock the bootloader:
Lock the bootloader: "fastboot flashing lock" (use the Volume then the Power buttons to confirm)
The device performs a factory reset then boots back to Fastboot Mode
Complete the device configuration
Unplug the device from the computer and choose option 'Start' in Fastboot Mode to load the device OS
Perform device configuration

So the issues i'm facing are:
When I'm Trying to install using windows I can't get windows to recognize my phone.
I've installed platform tools but when i want to verify the fastboot connection it keeps saying waiting for device.
I've tried updating the driver many different times in many different ways but cant resolve the issue.
on a linux pc i'm following the manual from the website:
https://grapheneos.org/install
I downloaded platformtools but I cant set the PATH to update the version. and use the new version.
is there another way to install it? Or can someone guide me step by step exactly what to do?
thanks in advance!
Not sure if this will help any but perhaps try new a cable or a different USB port. I've read sometimes USB 2.1 works but USB 3.0 doesn't or vice versa.
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL

Thanks for your reply,
I got it to work! I misread one step, I connected the cable and instead of staying in fastboot mode (on the fastbootmode screen) I pressed start (power button) and proceeded to starting the OS. I thought that this was how it operated but now I understand how it works
i'm not really helping here but what is so good about GrapheneOS vs stock? i have never heard of them

Look at the GrapheneOS website and you'll find the answer.
In a nutshell: No Gapps or Play Services and securized kernel plus some other under-the-hood security improvements.
Only thing which i miss per default is the root access so i'm using it without AVB.

Well... I'm not sure if you got your problem solved; however, now that the Pixel 3 no longer receives security updates, Graphene will no longer support their OS for your phone...
So, you can go with Lineage OS or do what I did and utilize Calyx OS.
I've had no issues thus far ..
does anyone have a graphene os build files for pixel 3xl? I want to return to stock and i must have deleted build. Thank you

You just have to update drivers from device manager.
Follow this, you can use the fastboot drivers either from Xiaomi or Google (if you already have them installed)
If you don't have the Android with exclamation mark, you can do it the same as shows the latest image.

Before i got stuck in fastboot my phone doesn't really detected in my pc even on other computers with fastboot drivers. USB File Transfer not working too, it's only charging. I'm using Havoc OS 4.8 rom and this firmware.

And did you try what I posted? Probably you need to check which drivers you have actually installed, some of them are sometimes redundant and not necessary, what you need is the Google ADB/fastboot that it is in the Google site, and regards Xiaomi all is in the Mi flash tool and Mi Unlock tool, see to the option to install the drivers hoping that you don't need the Qualcomm 9008-USB drivers.
Of course, this is assuming that you have a data cable not only a charger cable and the issue is not with the ROM itself.
Use known good data cable!!!
Does the phone see the connection?
Is it configured properly?!!!
Try another port.
Reboot, reboot, reboot...
Event manager, check for error messages.
Disk management>scan for new disks, open from here!
Device management, update driver, rollback driver... reboot.
Meh, play with it...

Are you sure your device is actually in fastboot mode with that issue "Device Descriptor Request Failed"?
The drivers are in the Mi Flash tool, when you install the tools you can see the option to install the drivers that are already included in the Mi unlock tool.
From there, just follow the steps indicated in the pictures to update them.

Upload the same as my pictures 2 and 3 from your device manager, from the picture 2 you can use either from Xiaomi or Google.
Delete that Kedacom USB driver and replace for the proper ones, here you have the right guide https://xiaomifirmware.com/guides-and-tips/delete-kedacom-usb-device-driver-pc/

Well, at least you got your device showed, no?
To power off the device you can put it in fastboot mode, after of approximately 10 minutes if the device is not attached to your PC, it'll power off, then you can charge it.
But if your device reacts to the power charger trying to boot to nowhere, then fastboot will charge the battery but very, very slowly.
Do you have bootloader unlocked? Why not flashing it through EDL mode?, you don't need battery power to do that.
