How is the olephobic coating? - Google Pixel 3a XL Questions & Answers

It was awful on the 2XL. It seemed to attract fingerprint and retain them. Any improvements with the 3aXL?

Well, I wouldn't say there is any improvement.
Sorry.

Can second that. Tempered glass will make a world of difference here

Naked?

Anyone deciding to go naked with the XL? I am going to give it a go for the weekend mostly because I want to see some real case reviews first but hopefully that I feel comfy enough to stay that way...
All of my phones go naked. The most I'll do is put a screen protector on it.
Imnuts, now there is a name I haven't seen in a long time. VZW Note II days to be exact.

They make cases for phones?!
I went on aliexpress and bought an array of things, few phone pouches some glass protectors, ordered a matte white dbrand skin with Google style G. And a clear case from amazon (they are tpu and rubber would prefer hard clear case but I can't find any just yet)
I'm going naked but with a tempered glass screen protector, and a slickwraps for the back
No real reason. The phone cases are what they are. Nothing groundbreaking in the case category, no reason to spend big bucks. I got an inexpensive clear Tauri. I actually like how they look and don't want to scratch it up.

The last UAG I got for my s7 edge was a little loose on one side. Do they have one made for the pixel xl yet?
I'm thinking about going naked. To talk myself into it I got the protection plan and will save $100 for the first major drop. I'm just not sure if I can handle a phone that has been dropped still works with dent and scratches. I guess that's the long standing debate though.
I went without protection yesterday but the phone is really slippery. I don't think it would be wise to continue without a case

Same. Too slippery. I still don't understand why they don't all use more grit in aluminum, more kevlar etc. They make them so stupid for function sometimes. Like how the fingerprint reader, although great on the back, is just a tad too high to be the primary resting spot unless you forgo the pinky hold underneath. That's just lazy UX.
I also think the fingerprint scanner should be lower. Not a deal breaker, but that would be my preference.

I'll probably try intelliarmor. Wasn't really impressed with the other tempered glass screen protector brands, like Nillkin, Amfilm, and Spigen. They either scratched too easily, or had weird adhesives that show rainbow coatings from an angle.
I ended up ordering a live case from Google today, with a beautiful picture I took in the Bahamas in September. I also ordered a Spigen rugged armor case

I think it's the perfect position. It shouldn't be placed where you normally rest your finger or you'd the the reader every time you hold the phone. Also, you aren't supposed to use the reader all the time and when you have to use it, simply using lifting your index takes no effort.
The only issue is in general is that there's no way to unlock the phone when it's rearing on a table.

It's subjective. I think it's supposed to be the rest position so it remains natural. Also, why would G put a swipe function on it if it were only to be used to unlock the phone? When I need to use it, it is a lift but it's also a reposition of my pinky to a decidedly more side grip and not underneath causing me to not be as sure handed on the device.

It might the way we handle the phone or hand sizes. You're not supposed to constantly touch the sensor. In my case, my index can reach the sensor without effort

List of Google Pixel 2 Screen Protectors

I thought I would start a central location for the new Google Pixel 2 screen protectors. These are the ones I found on the web for now. If you find any, feel free to share.

@intelliARMOR has said that they are working on a screen protector as well. Can't wait for the Pro!
I really hope that Whitestone Dome makes a protector for the Pixel XL 2. It seems it is going to have the same problems that the S8 and Note 8 had to where the only protectors you can buy only has adhesive on the edges. The Dome protector has adhesive on the whole screen. It's awesome on my Note 8 and S8 plus.
Do you guys have any plans of making one?? @Whitestone Dome Glass
One more
https://www.incipio.com/plex-plus-shield-edge-google-pixel-2-xl-case.html
Also, it seems to be a toss up on how the p2xl will handle tempered glass. Some have the dox matrix while others have the "edge to edge" adhesive which is pretty bad. I'm hoping itll be something like the pixel 1 with it fitting perfectly on the display.
What are peoples' experience with using Zagg or Incipio? At those prices, it makes me think I'm better off ordering the Power Support from the GoogleStore when it's live. I was very happy with Spigen's tgsp but I'm not sure if they're making one.

Lol... This glass is 3d... They made the glass bend around on left and right sides like the samsung edge display.. but the poled panel underneath is flat... So yeah its even more tricky since last year.. but if manufactures can make screen protectors for samsung then this will be no problem

Those leather cases for Apple are, or at least were at one time, made by Bellroy. They are currently listed as for sale on Google's website. Pixel 2 version is in stock, Pixel 2 XL version is out of stock, unfortunately
I'm holding out for the gadget gaurd black ice+ I love the warranty on it where they pay $100 towards the repair of your screen if your breaks while you have one of their registered screen protectors on. That is if they make them I used them on my pixel XL and my wifes Pixel and when my wife broke her screen it was only 30 bucks to get her screen fixed.
Wrong thread, sorry

screen protector recommendation

Hello I just recently got my self a pixel 2 XL and I'm looking for a good screen protector. I've done some looking around and found ALOT of options but it seems that screen protector quality has gone way down since I last bought one (for an older phone).
What I'm looking for:
a temptered glass, non do matrix, case friendly, non edge adhesive screen protector that doesn't cost an arm and a leg (for what the product is).
If anyone has had a good experience with anything that would fit the criteria please let me know.
Thank you for any and all responses and recommendations.
I dunno which ones like other people but for me is important protec edge to edge, curved screen protector. I found ome on amazon:

I saw those, and I like the idea and the product seemsd really well reviewed just really pricy for a screen protector. I mean I have most of the stuff that makes those good (i.e. loca, uv lamp) I just don't have the actual screen protector.
Had the Pixel 2 XL since the release and I also used glass protectors but they're just nowhere near as good as they are for other phones. It's really odd that there aren't more affordable screen protectors besides the Whitedome or whatever it's called. It's also the one that I refuse to spend that much money on, lol.
The reviews on Amazon are also insane since a crap ton of them are fake reviews besides the 1 star ones. Although this isn't a glass protector, keep this one in mind. [emoji106]
After trying multiple brands of screen protectors, mainly curved ones, I decided to try a film one. After messing with the S10 and watching the review on this screen protector, I gave it a shot, and hands down, I don't regret it. Has to be my favorite so far, even though I was iffy about it at first.

Three main thing keeping me away from the film screen protectors it's they usually have noticeably more resistance during use than the tempted glass alternatives. How did that one feel when using?

It feels more like the protector that comes with the S10. It's a wet apply, and feels really smooth compared to the other film protectors. I know the film type you're talking about, and I've used this one for 8 days now. I guess the only bad part about this screen would be if you get something under it.
If you do happen to mess up during installation, it says they'll send you another one no problem, but I recommend at least giving this one a shot. [emoji14]

I've recently started using Screenknight film screen protector, and whilst it does have more resistance than a glass screen ... Using it with my Unicorn Beetle Pro (after removing the built in screen protector) it makes my phone feel indestructible ... Much better than the glass because it wraps around the edge of the screen which is then covered completely with my case ... I'd does a have a very slight "orange peel" effect if looking in the right light, but all in all I'm much happier with this than any of the many glass screens I have tried and wasted money on !

Luibor tempered glass screen protector

Anyone has any experience with this screen protector? It looks good, and inexpensive, with lots of good rating.
But, it's too good to be true. And those ratings also for their old products I think.
If I cannot find better alternative, I might jump into this. On my Pixel 2 XL, I am using tempered glass from Whitestone dome. It is good, but expensive, and they don't have Pixel 5.
https://www.amazon.com/Luibor-Googl...2878597&sprefix=luibor+pi,aps,226&sr=8-7&th=1
Yeah, Whitestone is honestly the best screen protector I've ever used. Looking for a replacement or hoping they make it at some point. Looks like they completely avoided making a pixel 4 protector.
I'll check out that protector you linked to, but it has 300+ reviews from weeks ago when no one has a pixel 5 yet. So who knows...
I ended up with this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08J7MDDPV/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It doesn't include installation kit, so you need to line up the screen protector carefully. I think this is the same as Luibor as well. Installation is straight forward, but it can be difficult without steady hand. There were bubbles which I can squished out, luckily. Although, I threw away 1 screen protector because of dust problem. The other two were successfully installed on mine and my wife's P5. Responsiveness is good, no problem. But, I am not that happy because mine is a bit miss-aligned. Oh well, still looks good and I can live with it. I will replace with other if it is broken, preferably one with installation kit.
What about the Sound quality with a screenprotector? I read a lot That on LG phones (which have under screen speaker for 2 years) it changes the Sound quality and makes it worser if a screenprotector is aplied
Btw. Dont use those camera protector glases until they make One That has a cutout for the mic.

Sound quality is OK-ish. Pixel 5 is not good, compared to my 2XL. Stereo is non-existent. But, I have to live with it, sadly.
I don't understand about the camera protector glasses related to mic. Why is that?
Here is the hardware layout: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7157629
I don't see the camera screen protector would interfere the mic.

For Videos there is a mic on the backside which is close to the flashlight and i have only seen one camera protector which has a hole for the back mic. This mic is not shown in the Graphics on Googles Website but you can clearly See it on your device and if you make Videos with Sound with a covered mic thats fkn Bad for sound quality

ArmorSuit MilitaryShield Anti-Glare Screen Protector for Google Pixel 5 (2020) (Case Friendly) Anti-Bubble Matte Film. My favorite.
I ordered both the Luibor and the Qitayo versions... and the dimensions are exactly the same, 100%
I installed the Qitayo, and 'tested' the Luibor too... just pressing my fingers a lot of times on the glass and you'll see fingerprints quite easily... so the oleophobic coating, if it's there at all, isn't great.
But protection is what counts for me, and considering they're dirt cheap I'll take it.
Like 8 months ago I had a tempered glass from Amfilm on my Oneplus 7 Pro, a curved one with full adhesive, yes they do exist, and that one had awesome oleophobic coating, the glass felt really smooth and almost no fingerprints whatsoever.
But it's not available for the Pixel 5.

How much space is there around the case friendly version? Do you have a case on it? I'd like a film protector that blends in more than the glass I have on there that doesn't touch the black so leaves a big gap and is too visible for my liking.

Is it this one? https://www.armorsuit.com/collectio...google-pixel-5-screen-protector-case-friendly
That's not glass, isn't it?
They also have "matte" version https://www.armorsuit.com/collectio...ogle-pixel-5-screen-protector-case-friendly-1
Happy with the Spigen Glass.

Which one specifically?
Is it easy to install?
Fit the area nicely? Not too small?

im on my second attempt at tempered glass (latest one is the Spigen)
Both attempts have resulted in the proximity sensor being activated on calls - resulting in the screen going black when call is accepted (even if the phone is on my desk). It also means i cant access phone options during calls.
Is it just me having these issues with tempered glass ???
